I have been coming to Mi Pueblito since the 90s when it was basically the only Colombian restaurant in Houston. It's wonderful that this establishment is still around and thriving. Came here for lunch with some friends and it was SO GOOD. The cappuccino was creamy and frothy, and I loved that it wasn't sweet. We got some empanadas to start with, which were so crispy and flavorful. For my main dish I shared the La Bandeja Paisa with a friend. The portion was HUGE and the meats were so delicious. I didn't care for the bread it came with, but everything else was amazing, especially the plantains and pork. We also got some pastries at the end, which were all delicious! I ended up going with the kids dinner since I was craving rice and beans. The plate was huge! I ended up getting the steak and it also came with a small piece of sweet plantain but there were other options. Food was delicious. My friend had the Sancocho de gallina - wow! I only had a small taste but I already know I'm coming back to get that soup. I think it was the cilantro and yucca that had me! I also tried the coconut lemonade which was really good! We were on this side of town looking for Colombian food and happened to find it through maps I want to say. It's really big inside. They have a bakery connected to the restaurant! This place surprisingly even has a bar, the few Colombian places we've been to don't ever have bars so that was nice. The service was good and the food came out within a good time period after ordering. It is 5pm when we came so there was about 5 tables in when we were here. The menu is huge and they have a lot to choose from! Make sure to stop by and try them out. I'd give the food an 8.5 out of 10!!! My friends and I have been craving Colombian food after our recent trip. I was recommended to try this place by a coworker. Upon arrival I was a little confused as the parking lot had an attendant. It was good because he made sure restaurant guests were able to find spots, they were pretty busy. I started out with empanadas one pollo one carne both seasoned well. I had a guanabana jugo which didn't have any added sugars to my liking. I decided on a seafood stew entree it was served with salad rice and plantains. Very well done broth was the perfect balance of flavor and thickness. I also enjoyed a limonada de coco. One of the countries best known beverages. One of the better spots in Houston for Brazilian typical food. They have a bakery at the front of the restaurant that we also love! A little bit on the pricier side compared to the restaurant. Service could be a little better but the food is definitely worth it. Nonetheless, this restaurant is a solid 4.5/5 for us. We will definitely be returning and trying different dishes on the menu. To make a long story short, everything was overcooked: the steak, the fish, and the Cazuela de mariscos. The patacones were so hard and dried. I've been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years and it never disappoints! I no longer live in Houston but try to stop by when in town! This was one of the better experiences! Arepa was buttery and delicious! Empanadas were beef, tasty. The milanesa was cooked perfectly. The servers are always attentive and everyone makes sure you're taken care of. I organized a group outing to Mi Pueblito. They had always given us separate checks. I admit. We were a bunch of folks, maybe 18. I was surprised when they told me only four checks per table. So we ordered by groups. The 20 percent tip was included. I understand giving separate checks can be a hassle but they've done it before. They carry a tiny machine where you can easily pay individually. The shrimps in the shrimp cocktail are tiny ones. They're served on top of an avocado with a pink sauce and served with crackers. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. My passion fruit drink was good; however $4.50 is pricey. The drink is made from a small frozen bag of pulp which you can purchase in a package. It shouldn't be more than $3.50. Unfortunately I won't be taking my Internations group there any longer. Paying individually isn't allowed any more. read more

A friend treated me to my very first experience eating Colombian food. All I can say is "Wow!" When I first walked into the restaurant I was treated with a smile and warm welcome. That really set the tone for me. The atmosphere was nice for a late lunch crowd (around 1pm) The wait staff was friendly and professional! The restaurant is very nice. They have a large food and drink menu. I ordered the steak with salad and french fries, a Coco lemonade, cheese arepa, and tried the tamale and beef empanadas. Everything was delicious and since I came near Thanksgiving, they also had a table set up for you to sample what they had to offer on the catering menu for Thanksgiving. All of the items on the Thanksgiving menu were new to me and taste really good. I have no complaints. However, this spot is kind of pricey, I just want you to know please do not let this disuade you from going. There's also a bakery on site and a guy was serenading each table by guitar. So I have been to this place a couple of times always left satisfied. You enter the restaurant and you pass by the bakery, which is also excellent. The place is nice, all the waiters are super friendly and helpful. I have been there when it's full and the waiter always checks on you. The prices are good and the food is delicious and they put plenty in the plate. The inside of the restaurant has a great vibe and they serve alcoholic beverages. This will be a very strange one-star review in both Google and Yelp. I do reviews on both but not very often and I'm pretty sure every time I've done one it's been five stars out of enthusiasm. It is strange because I am not complaining about the quality of the food, the service, the atmosphere nor the employees. And I'm not going to complain about the prices because frankly inflation has made it expensive to eat out anywhere. This is my wife's favorite restaurant. We have been here a number of times without incident. Today I believe the manager was making the rounds to chat with customers and when he approached our table he noticed my plastic bag with five habanero peppers in it. My father was from Mexico so I'm half Mexican and I love picante. The manager told me that I cannot eat my habanero peppers and it is prohibited to bring in outside food. I commented that it's not as though I were bringing in a bag of hamburgers from a fast-food place or any competitor and that these peppers came from my refrigerator and I tend to eat habaneros with almost every meal. In short, he said the rules are the rules and I put the bag in my pocket. He did tell me that they have Tabasco and jalapenos. I told him I quit using Tabasco when I was 13. I have been bringing peppers or extra picante hot sauce to Houston restaurants for 40 years and love to joke that I pack heat. Not once have I been told it is unacceptable to spice up my meal to my liking. My wife is from Colombia and I am well aware of the fact that most Colombians do not like spicey hot food. She told the manager we will not be coming back. Maybe we will. If we do, I will chop my habaneros, leave the bag in my pocket and discretely put them on my food to spice it up like I prefer. read more

Don't go to Mi Pueblito if you have babies that are bottle feeding. Right after being seated I put my stuff down and had a bottle of Ozarka water that I placed on the table. I was about to place the water in my son's diaper bag, but before I could the waiter immediately came up and told me that they don't allow outside drinks. I told him the bottle water was not for me it was to make my son's formula incase he got hungry. He repeated they don't allow outside drinks and said rules came directly from management and then proceeded to ask me again to put it up. After that I did not place an order and left . I don't support businesses that don't allow bottled water for families with babies. This restaurant is not baby friendly. Never again will I ever go back.... Welcome back to Bogota, Columbia... This wondrous restraint filled with all the flavors, and not the thick laden hot spices people wrongly think of! Never do I understand how they achieve such harmony of fresh flavors without the butters and oils required by other cuisines. My waitress Carolina supported by her colleagues delivered a welcoming experience. Fluent in both Spanish and English which is a real plus.
