I won't change my number of stars but do want to post an update to the saga of what became a $7700 bill that went to collections. I decided to take my case to the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. Once XO was contacted by BBB, they magically realized their billing errors and gave me roughly $7500 in credits. We were fine to pay the difference just to be finished with them. I highly recommend filing a complaint with the BBB whenever you are scammed by a company, in addition to posting here. Educate other consumers and potentially save someone else the hassle! read more

I dont even want to give this company any star at all! We had one of our store locations close and informed them in March that this was happening. Finally in May they sent us a a bill , like we never even closed the store. They said they would work with us and let us know what the outcome would be. Instead, they sent the bill straight to collections and we are getting the run around on getting this taken care of and having them call off collections. Ridiculous. No communication. No responsibility being taken by this company. Would never recommend or use again. read more

Our company has used XO Communications for 5 years. We got off to a rocky start with months of dropped calls till the problems were discovered in their network and modem. After the first year their service was consistently good. Our main compliant is in the area of billing. From the moment we signed their three year contract our rates started to rise. Toward the end of our first 3 years we tried to renegotiate our rates. We agreed on a price, signed the contract, and on the very next bill our rate jumped by $60 (in just 30 days!). We decided not to renew with XO Communications mainly due to their unfair rate practices, and per their contract gave notice in early December 2013. They were unable to port our lines off their system in time, but agreed to end our contract on January 20th. Although they promised there would be no charges after that date, it took me another 6 months of numerous phone calls to finally get our bill to a zero balance. After our account finally had a zero balance, in May 2014 they tried to charge us for an early contract termination fee, when we had been off their system for 6 months, and appropriately asked for a disconnection prior to the end of our contract. The fee was reversed in June. According to other complaints I have read, these are not uncommon events. I do not recommend this company, and they do not deserve their BBB rating. read more

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH XO COMMUNICATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! This company has caused us so much suffering. They treat you great untill they get your signature on that contract, after that don't expect to EVER EVER get anyone to reply to you about technical issues or contract issues or anything. I have been calling my sales rep, Beverly Shelton, for two months and she still has NOT returned my calls! Service is not good either, quality of voice lines horrible, we have opened over 150 cases with technical support and they have not fixed anything yet. They just close the case after a few days without even contacting us. If we could get out of our contract somehow we would in a heartbeat. read more

Systemic failures run deep in this company. Doesn't matter which department or which time of the day plan on poor service. You would be wise to select another provider - there's a number of them out there. Don't get sucked into the lower cost. After days of service punishment, I called their administrative office to talk to someone about how absolutely dissatisfied and unhappy I was with the service and they said they would have someone call me back in three to five days. We have been trying to cancel our contract with XO for over 4 years and every time we think we have followed all steps to get out of the contract - they find another loop hole to keep us locked in. This past year I was in contact with them, almost monthly, numerous time via email and phone - asking for help in getting out of our contract. I didn't want to miss any step in ending this contract, I followed all steps that were given to me AND ONCE AGAIN - they found a loop hole. I called and asked for all the details regarding our account that we wanted to close - I was given 4 numbers from customer service rep back in February. Once I tried to have the new carrier port our numbers/service over - I found out through our new carrier that we had 3 other key phone numbers on that account with XO. Called XO to get the other 3 numbers ported over and they cancelled our disconnect notice all together which then put us past the 45 days notice to cancel the contract and now they are trying to continue to bill us for the remainder 45 days. and when I called to speak to the rep that only gave me the original 4 lines to port - he said it "wasn't his fault - that we, as a company, should know the details of our account" and even though I had asked him for the details of our account back in February and he misinformed me - there is nothing he can do now to help me. For 9 years of having services from XO - there has been nothing but problems with the service cutting out, TRY RUNNING A BUSINESS WITH NO WORKING PHONE OR INTERNET - we would call XO and it was NEVER their problem. After 5 years of dealing with it, we tried getting out of the contract only to miss a step and get stuck with a 3 year AUTO RENEW. The past 3 years we have been counting down the days to end this contract and making it very clear to everyone we spoke to with in the company - only to have them find another loop hole to keep us longer. They are the BIGGEST SCAM company out there! read more

If you are considering obtaining service from XO Communications, DON'T!!! My company is in its second dispute with XO in less than five years. The first (in 2009) involved moving our service from one location to another. XO considered this to be a new contract (even though we kept our existing phone numbers) and demanded that we pay the entire balance remaining on the original contract IN ADDITION TO the premiums for our new location. After numerous hassles with XO's collection agency, we were only able to get them to back down because a former employee of ours had gone to work for XO and was able to get a decision maker involved in eliminating the duplicate charges. Our current dispute involves the automatic renewal of our initial three year term of service. This automatic renewal was not stated in the contract documents we signed, but was stated in a single sentence on page 12 of a 25 page very fine print web site that was only referenced in our contract documents through the site's web address. read more

We had an issue with a domain name expiring (which meant we weren't receiving our company emails) and we're not able to renew it because of other issues, so we went and purchased a new domain name. After purchasing the new domain name, we then contacted XO who only then informed us that since Verizon took them over, they weren't accepting any new domains. After talking to customer service people, we ALL realized that our account would no longer be required and actually had 1 service person tell me that if I needed help copying all of our emails off the server before they shut it down, let her know. We were able to transfer all of our emails ourselves and thought that was it. This happened in March and we had paid our bill up to the 4/22 billing. This month we received a suspension notice and a demand that we pay April and May bills. How do you charge someone for a service that is not useable and that XO won't allow us to use? We tried calling today (5/22) and spoke to a manager and tried explaining it all over again but it went absolutely nowhere. All of this over a $27.87 bill for a service (that was inoperable by XO), because there wasn't an official termination request. Really???? What part of "I guess you won't be able to use your service anymore" makes it sound as though we needed a termination request. Well they have a recording that says that "conversations may be recorded", hopefully our conversation was recorded today, because there was no doubt that today, we said TERMINATE loud and clear. read more

i was a customer for 6 years. poor service and slow response to repairs, not worth time and effort to report problems. called and wanted to terminate and got stuck with auto renew which was NEVER mentioned when starting service. prices are not competitive with other companies and they do not negotiate. tried to be proactive about terminating after next 3 year contract auto renew (never wanted) and spoke and emailed rep about this and still end up paying 45 d for unused service that were past termination date. xo is extremely difficult to get in touch with customer service with wait times 15-60+ min, then reps are not helpful, don't follow thru, and if they say they will record request don't always do that. contract terms are hidden and difficult to follow, but company falls back on this for their legal protection. no concern for consumer. find a different service! read more
