So I ordered 2 pho house special for me and my boyfriend, 2 bahn mi sandwiches (grilled pork and house special), honey dew bubble tea, thai tea bubble tea, eggrolls and springrolls. Everything came out to almost $60. Eggrolls were small for the price, I could go somewhere else for that price and get it for a bigger size. I didn't try to the eggrolls so I couldn't talk about taste wise for that. Springrolls were small in size for its price and not a lot of stuff in the springrolls like other places I've been to, I like the sauce and with both combination together it tasted fine to me. The house special pho was small in portions not a lot of meat and noodles like other places I've been to plus it was mainly just broth. The pho tasted ok as well. The bahn mi was fine... a little saltier on the meat but overall not too bad. The bubble teas were great! Loved it! The owners were very friendly and checked up on us often as well. Overall experience... it was good. Might come back just to try out other bahn mi sandwiches. read more

Overall, a good value for a house special banh mi, shrimp and pork spring rolls, and an iced Thai tea with no boba. Coming from Southern California, finding a place like this is definitely a hidden gem for me and a little reminder of home. It seems to be a family run restaurant, so please be considerate and courteous to whoever is working. Iced Thai tea was pretty good for what it is. It doesn't taste like the powdery stuff that some places do make because it tastes how I would make it with the Panthai tea leaves. Although, I wish they would add in the half and half right before serving it to you instead of mixing it ahead of time just to keep the tea stronger. House special banh mi with the works (yes, with jalapeños) was okay. The baguette was a little too thick, but it was crispy. Good amount of vegetables; could use a little more daikon and less carrots. The grilled pork was subtle, which is what I wanted most from the sandwich, so definitely more of that could've been done as well. The let-down of the meal were the spring rolls. It was rather tiny and not a lot of filling. The type of pork seemed to be the same grilled pork used for the banh mi, which wasn't all that bad. Not the greatest service and the worst boba I've ever had. Boba is unflavored and the tea is way too sweet. Also, they don't actually have boba tea, just boba smoothies and Thai tea. I'm Vietnamese and have eaten banh mi all over the US (including So Cal) and in Vietnam many times. This is seriously one of the best. Perfectly crisp outside, light inside baguette. Super fresh and plentiful fillings and the pate was exceptional. I judge all banh mi shops by their #1 Special which features the most traditional meats...this one was a stand out. Larger than I'm used to, but could be the WI diets and I'm not complaining. It's right next door to a Subway, but don't waste your money there. My sandwich was $5.25 and I'm stuffed. read more

I visited Xankia for the second time last night before Yelp Kitschmas. On my first visit, I had the House Special Banh Mi with pork, pate, pickled carrots & daikon, cucumber, cilantro, jalapeno, special mayo sauce. The bread was fresh, soft on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside, and the flavors were great! It's one of the best banh mi's in town and a great value at $5.25 for the half size, which is sufficient. Last night, I tried their egg roll and House Special pho with beef, beef meatballs, tripe, and tendon. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was perfect as is, for my taste. For me, a good pho starts with a broth I don't have to alter for flavor. It was light, overall, and a slightly smaller portion than I usually find for $9.99, but it was the right size portion. I would certainly order it again if in the mood for pho and nearby. The egg rolls were good, made fresh and served with sweet n sour sauce. Banh Mi sandwiches done right! My friend and I came here for dinner before a performance at the Rep. When we arrived we were the only two people there. You order food at the counter where they have menus with pictures and descriptions to help you decide. The banh mi sandwich can be made into a combo which has two options: 1. Egg rolls and fountain drink 2. Spring rolls no drink. There is also pho and other items on the menu to try. We each tried one of the banh mi combo options. My friend got the steak with egg rolls and I got the pork with spring rolls. When our meals arrived, which took mere minutes, we traded a spring roll and egg roll. Both rolls were really good and I think I might have preferred the egg rolls. Both dipping sauces were also excellent. The banh mi sandwiches were amazing! Fresh veggies, jalapenos and well cooked pork was an absolute treat. I also appreciated the fresh bread that is perfectly toasted. I'm so glad we decided to check out Xankia! I love their pork sandwich. Great price ($4.50) and great taste. Just what my tastebuds want. That said, I have not had a whole lot of bahn mi. I've gotten addicted to theirs, and when their old location inside Pacific Produce closed, I was devastated. I went next door to the Vietnamese noodle house and tried their bahn mi - but the taste just wasn't the same (though cheaper). So, I was happy to find out that Xankia had moved to a new location. Kinda sucks that i have to look for and pay for parking downtown to grab their sandwich now, though. On their opening day, they said they were giving free egg rolls and soda, so I got some. (though I had to ask for them. I don't think they were going to give it to me until i showed them their website saying they were giving free soda and egg rolls. They asked me if I wanted to buy the combo, which included the extra egg roll and a drink, even though that was supposed to be for free. Kinda weird.) I've had their spring rolls before at the old location, and those were great. The egg rolls, not so much. It had too much noodles. Actually, it tasted good, but it didn't taste like eggrolls... i don't know how to express... it was more like it had curry flavored noodles? I'll keep going back, since I love their bahn mi. But on their first day, it didn't taste as good as I remembered it. It could be because they forgot to put in the jalapeños. But I'm not sure. The pork was a bit saltier than I remembered. Hence the -1 star. I'll update if it gets better. Oh, and as a tip. Order ahead. They start making those sandwiches once you order them, and it takes a while. For my drink I had the Vietnamese iced coffee - Delicious! Perfect amount of condensed milk and dark roast coffee. The egg rolls were a bit smaller than I expected but were delicious, especially when dipped in their sauce. Mmmm good! The baguette for the sandwich was the best I've ever had - lightly crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. The fillings were excellent - tasty tofu, fresh cucumbers, cilantro, radish, etc. I would have liked the sandwich filled a little more but for the low price of $6.95 it was very good. Went here for Pho $10 for most of the bowls of Pho unless you do combo only place I've seen charge for extra meat on the combos, scared of how small the child bowl they offer is. The broth was really good and hot, skimpy on the meat and additives, gave me 2 basil leaves and dry ass lime, little bit of sprouts, the meat was a little skimpy also. I got the Bahn Mi Tofu Sandwich and I was so satisfied I at e the whole thing. The combo meal was amazing - 2 spring rolls with the sandwich and a drink! The owner also came up to us and struck up a very kind and funny conversation and told us we could stay as long as we needed as they close at 7 pm. I was a big fan of this banh mi operation when it was located in the bowels of the Pacific Produce supermarket on 27th street, and very disappointed when they shut down. I am pleasantly surprised to find their reasonable prices still in effect here downtown where the rent must be higher and they seem to have more people working at the same time. If you don't know about the French influence on Vietnamese cuisine, experience one of their sandwiches for lunch. My favorite is sardine, but I'm already married. Great place! I'm so glad I discovered this spot. I'm here at a conference, so I was on the hunt for a unique spot to Milwaukee and something flavorful. I got both! The service was great. They accommodated our party to make sure we had food quickly. Which is one thing I noticed of my stay in Milwaukee: food service is INSANELY SLOW EVERYWHERE!! What's up with that?? This was a great place to get something on the fast-ish end without going low-brow fast-food. The bun was fresh and tasty, I loved the portion and flavor of meat provided in the Banh Mi. The pickled veggies were spot on and the fresh herbs woke up my tastebuds for sure! I went back the next day for the noodle bowl. And that was good, but I think that the Banh Mi is really the way to go here. I loved the friendly staff. The only down-side was the Boba. It just was hard and crunchy. The flavor was okay, but the tapioca pearls themselves must not have been prepped completely because the centers were hard. Bummer, but this place is a hidden gem. When it comes to bahn mi sandwiches, this place does it right. After my first visit, I knew immediately that I needed to come back. And I did, several times! So what makes it great? The bread. Its absolutely perfect. Crisp and crunchy on the outside yet soft on the inside - just the way a baguette should be. Some places have bread that is too soft so it gets soggy before you can finish the sandwich. The vegetables are always fresh and have just the right amount of tang from the vinegar dressing used to give them a pickled taste. There is always a heaping amount which is great as I like to start by eating a few pieces to enjoy their crispness and flavor. I'm a creature of habit so I've only had the meatball and the chicken, though there are several meats to choose from and a vegetarian option. If you want it spicy get the jalapeños! They are hot! I generally skip them in favor of the chili paste set out on the tables. I have yet to try the spring rolls or the pho, but I do enjoy the slightly sweet steamed buns. They're perfect with a bit of hoisin sauce. Another great thing is the price. Every item is reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. I could seriously eat here every day. read more

I'm surprised it's listed as an appetizer, it could easily be an entree. The thing was stuffed with noodles and fresh shrimp and pork. I like that they didn't have mint leaves like most places, it makes it annoying to pull out while you're eating it. The sauce had generous bits of peanuts in it which was a nice touch to the roll. I finally made it to Xankia for lunch on Friday, and I was not disappointed. I stopped in to pick up a sampling of sandwiches and all of them were superb. First, the let's talk bread. The french bread was fresh and had a nice crust. I ordered the #2 Bánh Mì Tht Nng (Grilled Pork), #5 Bánh Mì Bít Tt (Grilled Steak) and the #8 Bánh Mì Bì Chay (Rice Noodles with Tofu). Along with 2 egg rolls, the total was just under $20. Not bad at all. The egg rolls were thin rice noodles and vegetables deep fried. I am happy to report, they were delicious and not greasy, as is too often the case with egg rolls. The sandwiches were solid, and it's hard for me to find fault. The pork and steak were both very moist. The surprise of the day was the rice noodle and tofu. This is one of the best vegetarian sandwiches I have ever had. Often times, rice noodles can be cooked with too much oil, but Xankia has it down. The noodles were seasoned will and paired well with the pickled vegetables. The only thing I would add the next time is a bit more cilantro. It was a great spot for lunch. I would recommend calling ahead for faster pickup. Was exciting to find a bahn mi place in walking distance to our destination. The bahn mi was surprising larger than average, a definite plus. It tasted just as it should, not worse, but not amazingly better either. Jalapeños were a bit more spicy than normal for bahn mi too. There's a check-in freebie for a free fountain drink, so that was a nice surprise too. They had nice Asian canned drinks in their fridge too (guava!!!!, but didn't get it since we had a free fountain drink). Tried this place out for the first time. This place specializes in pho noodle soup and bun mi sandwiches. There is also a limited variety of appetizers such as spring rolls, eggs rolls, etc. I ordered the house special for pho (mine) and bun mi sandwich (my daughter). The pho portion is smaller than expected. The to go pho noodle and garnishments came in separate plastic bags. The broth with the meat came in the clear plastic (16 oz?) container. Broth gets a 3/5 - taste good for the options that are available in this area. Just the right amount of flavor. Good enough to come back if I am in the mood for pho. Meat (includes meatball, tripes, tendon, & beef) get 3.5/5 - the meat were tender and easy to chew. Enjoyed the soft tendon. Pho noodle gets a 3.5 out of 5 - it was not to soft and not too hard to eat. Services was 4 out of 5 - person answering the pho was pleasant to work with. She was also pleasant to work with over the phone. When the machine wasn't working properly with the person before me, she worked quickly to get it resolved and also apologized to the customer. Really awesome place for an affordable lunch. I come here more often than I'd like to admit after my boyfriend discovered it near his and my work places. Between he and I, think we've tried everything on the menu and have reviewed every single thing we've had as "absolutely delicious". Being gluten free, they have several options for me. I can order spring rolls or any of their rice noodle dishes. The spring rolls are absolutely fantastic. I usually get pork and shrimp--for under $5, you get two giant spring rolls and a hefty cup of peanut dipping sauce. It's enough to fill me up and tastes so, so FRESH. I've tried the coconut boba tea as well...couldn't help but feel like I was on an island somewhere... tasted as if I was drinking right out of a fresh coconut. Iced coffee is killer, too. Tastes amazing, and I have to pace myself when I order it or else the whole cup would be gone within a few minute's time! I cannot eat the bahn mi sandwiches due to my gluten free diet, however, I have had several coworkers and friends tell me it's the best bahn mi they've ever had anywhere in the country. My one complaint is the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's very clean, don't get me wrong. It's just very bare, and there are unpleasant moving boxes stacked up in the back. It's always extremely hot inside, too, as if the air isn't on at all. They're a brand new location, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if things got better in the future. I must say, for the size, and how busy it always is, they do make their food extremely quickly without sacrificing quality. I have NEVER had to wait for than 5-6 minutes for my order to be ready.
