What a pleasant surprise to log on to Yelp today and find out there is a new Bahn Mi restaurant just down the street from my job! Immediately I asked my coworkers if they wanted in, and we were off to Xankia! For 22 dollars we got: 3 huge sandwiches (2 meat, 1 tofu) An order of tofu spring rolls An order of egg rolls 22 bucks? I feel like I'm robbing them! And even better?? OHMYGODIT'SSODARNGOOD. I am currently chowing down at my desk, and I felt the immediate need to tell Yelp of this blessed new place. Seriously though, where else downtown can you get this great of a deal AND get to support a local business at the same time? GO HERE AND EAT FOOD. NOW. read more

Best vegetarian bahn mi I've come across in MKE!... not too greasy tofu with nice not too stuffed pickled veggies. Meaty husband had pho which he said was ok but his pork bun although difficult to remove the paper from the bottom was interesting and one of the best he's had. Lotus cookies are beautiful, light and crispy. $2.50 for 4 is a crazy deal. read more

A great Banh mi place in Milwaukee. Surprisingly it's not busy. My go-to whenever I'm in town. I usually get the special & the meatballs. Have not tried anything else... yet. read more

Place was at full capacity, we had to wait more than 30 minutes to be served. I got a noodle dish and payed $11 for it. I was very disappointed given the good reviews. The dish was very plain and the quality and quantity vs price is not worth it.aybe the sandwiches are better, I really don't recommend the noodles. read more

I went here today for lunch with a coworker. It was noon, so I expected it to be fairly busy, which it was. It is a family restaurant, and you can tell they put their love into every bite! The service was fairly quick, about 10 minutes, considering it was the thick of lunch time, and the cashier was also serving the food as well. We got 2 egg rolls and 2 bowls of Pho, one beef and one shrimp. They give you a plate of "fixings" to put into the Pho, on top of what already comes in it. If you go here for Pho, you will not leave hungry, as the bowls are the size of a small mixing bowl. For those of you who have not had Pho, if you have ever had Ramen, those bowls are comparable size. The price was on par with other places of similar fair, at about $9 each for the Pho, and $4 for the egg rolls. All in all, give this place a try if you are looking for a decent lunch spot downtown that isn't fast food, but isn't your normal sit down restaurant. It is just the right mix of both! read more

Delicious Bahn Mi. I had my first visit today and tried the traditional with egg rolls. The rolls were pretty basic avg fried type but tasty. The Bahn on the other hand was outstanding. The best I've found in the city to date. Started with a great crusty french bread some good sour tang from the pickled veggies and a great rich mix of protein with some siracha and jalapenos to balance it all out. The space is a small sterile area with nothing really to it. You don't come for the ambiance, but that didn't diminish any of my enjoyment. My only two issues from my trip were that as some crowds came in they seemed short handed and some people (not me) waited quite a while to place their order. Even so food was pumped out quickly. My personal biggest issue was the red pepper paste in the squeeze bottles on the table. I love that stuff, but unfortunately the hole in the top wasn't big enough so it clogged then blasted my shirt when I squeezed hard enough to clear it. Looking forward to trying their other types in the future (6 meat 2 veg varieties). read more

Excellent banh mi. Glad they took the time to heat up the bread. Meat was juicy and warm contrasting with cool veggies.

Maybe we're completely jaded from living and eating on the Left Coast. But Xankia is nothing to write home about. The flavors are lacking. The portions are minuscule. The ambiance is virtually soviet gulag. And the hours make no sense for a lunch-only place, or for a lunch and dinner place. The people seem reasonably friendly though. read more

Like most sandwiches, I feel like it's the bread that makes the banh mi. That being said I'm pretty bummed that a lot of banh mi places in the area don't use the classic, iconic french bread that makes the banh mi so wonderful. It seems that most places opt for a softer kinda of bread that you would find on a hoagie or sub, which unfortunately takes away from part of the experience for me. You lose out on the perfect crunchy exterior of a nice baked loaf of french bread. I tried the meatball banh mi, which was $4.50 for a good sized sandwich. The meat was flavorful as well as the tomato-based sauce that covered it. Sort of like an Asian meatball sub I guess. The pickled daikon and carrot could be a lot more pungent than they are, which would help contribute a bit more sour flavor to the sandwich. Overall a decent sandwich for a good price. I'd like to come back and try some of their other options. read more

I'd give the Bahn Mi a 5/5 and the Pho a 3/5 I got the Sardine Bahn Mi which was delicious. Good quality bread and the sauce was excellent. A bargain as well at $4.45. Fills you up if that's the only thing you're eating and still big enough to share given that you order other items. The Pho was meh (I ordered the Shrimp Pho) The basil was not fresh (slightly brown, a bit shriveled) and the bean sprouts were okay. However the broth had great flavor and large shrimp. Customer service was good - the young (and probably the only English-speaking employee when I was there) man was helpful and very kind. Decor left something to be desired but I don't care too much about that. It's a casual, clean spot good for lunch and okay for a low key, quick dinner. read more

I have come in here a couple of times before this to get a sandwich and some boba tea. This will be the last. We ordered two of the exact same sandwich. First, only one sandwich came out. Then we got the boba tea (with no bubbles for some reason?). Then, they bring out the second sandwich except it was the wrong one. We ordered two of the same thing. I don't know why they weren't made at the same time. Really ridiculous. Edit: For the record, we both sandwiches were on the same order. read more

All I ordered was six egg rolls for $6. On the plus side they were hot, perfectly crispy, and had good flavor. On the downside I thought $1 each may have been a tad too much for what you get and one of the egg rolls had very crunchy rice noodle in it that didn't seem cooked fully. I'd definitely consider coming back. read more

Xankia is one of my go-to places for delivery. The quality of their food is always consistently good -- ingredients are fresh, banh mi bread is nicely toasted, and their pho broth has a great flavor and isn't too salty. We typically order from Xankia via GrubHub, and the delivery always arrives in a timely manner. Everything on their menu is good. One of their best attributes is that they really know how to package pho for a delivery order -- the noodles come separate from the broth, so you don't have to deal with a mushy, soggy mess by the time your food arrives (I'm looking at you, SakeTumi). It goes without saying that their banh mi are fantastic and a great size (see photos posted by other users). I also really like the noodle dishes, which are more like a salad with noodles (so good!). You can also really customize your banh mi orders via Grubhub, which is also nice. So if you have feelings about mayo, you can actually check lite mayo, extra mayo, mayo on the side, or no mayo, which is kind of unique for a delivery place. read more

I tried banh mi in Chicago a few years ago and fell in love with it. Crunchy bread, fresh ingredients, slow roasted pork products. What more could you ask for? Xankia did not disappoint. The sandwich was enormous and for $5, a steal. I had the house special and would order it any time. I loved every bit of it! The line moved a bit slowly (they have a small staff) but was more than worth the wait. Side note: I smelled and saw the pho and will absolutely be going back to try it! read more

Had the pork with noodles. The cha gio was filled with noodles, usually there's pork filling of some sort. Fish sauce was quite tangy. The pork was quite flavorful. I would not say this viet food. read more

Best banh mi in the city by far. The parking situation is atrocious and it might take a little time to get your food, but it's well worth it. Lunchtime means the line is nearly out the door, so consider calling your order ahead. The steak and mushroom banh is pretty much a Philly by way of Vietnam, and is absolutely delicious. The fresh spring rolls are also very very solid. read more

Sandwich was good although the bread was at least a day old. Was charged 10.8% tax which is double the proper tax. Staff were not surprised when I asked about, but had no answer. read more

This is the worst Viet restaurant in Milwaukee! Don't waste your money on this place. Their pho had no flavor and the vermicelli dish was way too salty! We dined in for lunch and received absolutely no service, no water, no checking in to see if things were okay. Pahoua was the name of our waitress, we had to ask for water halfway through our meal and was told okay but never received it. They are way over priced compared to other Viet restaurants in town yet their food and service is aweful! They just reopened last week but they should have just stayed closed since their staff obviously does not want to work. The only reason they get 1 star was that their bahn mi was actually good. I will never go here again. read more

Stopped in for a dinner to go and was happy with the service, wait time, prices and quality of food. Although they have been open for two years this was my first experience in this sweet place. The order was: shrimp and pork spring rolls, a pork egg roll and a pork bahn mi sandwich. The spring rolls contained iceberg lettuce rather than cabbage and were a bit bland, but the soy dipping sauce was tasty and the shrimp were a nice size. The wonderful egg roll was full of flavorful pork rather than cabbage which a lot of places stuff their rolls with, and the wrapper was crisp. The sandwich had lots of fresh cilantro and moist pork pieces. While we were waiting for the food to be prepared we spoke with the owners and they were very nice. I grabbed a copy of the menu and will definitely be back again! They deliver too. read more

Their sandwiches are amazing. I can attest to that after spending time in Hanoi, Vietnam. Order the meatball or steak bahn mi with an egg roll. Oh, and don't forget some bubble tea. I've heard the pho is amazing as well, but haven't tried I yet so I cannot attest to it. read more

Xankia is a very cheap banh mi (and pho) option in downtown Milwaukee. A sandwich is about $6 (though you can get the "combo" and add 2 fresh spring rolls, which will bring your order to $9). The space isn't the most aesthetically pleasing- it's minimal- but it's clean, and the servers are friendly. The banh mi was the best of what we sampled- it didn't have quite the complex taste I'm used to, but it was tasty enough (and the bread was particularly good). The pho was less exciting, and the accompaniments (basil, sprouts) weren't quite as fresh as I'd like. read more

I tried almost all items on the Menu. They're all tasted a bit off and absolutely failed my expectation. The grilled pork always seem to be too salty. The only Banh Mi that tasted alright was the meat balls. Also, they don't give enough meat and vegetables, I feel like getting ripped off. The staff doesn't look like they know how to make the Banh Mi right. When stuffing the meat and veggies, they don't open the baguette up. They just let the baguette stay in closed up position and try to cram a bit of everything down. The result is, it's like eating the baguette with no fillings. read more

Best Bahn Mi in the city. Love the house special and the sardine sandwich. Please give this place business!

Found this place on yelp, it was sooo good! Went for lunch on Saturday afternoon the place was kinda empty but the reviews on yelp all said it was great and they were right! I love a good wholesome bowl of pho and this hit the spot! I got the shrimp pho and my girlfriend got the beef pho. My broth was great had the perfect balance of flavor the only reason I took a star off was because the shrimp weren't devained. I was told the beef pho was great and the beef was good quality and not hard or tough! Also had the tofu spring rolls and they were great! The Thai iced tea was phenomenal! Would recommend to anyone looking for a solid pho place thats quick, delicious, and inexpensive! read more

Delicious food, biiiig portions, and the staff is super nice and welcoming! The pho, bahn mi, and bubble tea are all delicious. There's plenty of space in here and the atmosphere is modest but pleasant. Thanks for everything!! read more

Quick service and reasonable price, but food was unremarkable. The chicken noodle bowl lacked flavor even with chili sauces on top. The shrimp spring rolls were also bland and I'm really not picky but the peanut sauce tasted stale, like it might have come out of a freezer after a year. read more

Where to grab a quick bite between panels at a conference in Wisconsin Center? This is the place. I've usually had to compromise on quality of food at conferences because there is so much to do and the food in the area is subpar. Imagine my delight when I found this place. Clear broth beef pho that was delicious and did not make you crazy thirsty afterwards. Thick sweet coffee as an afterlunch treat--- divine! This little nondescript sandwich shop made my conference experience so much better! read more

Very speedy service, reasonable price. If you're thinking of becoming a vegetarian, try the Special, there isn't much meat on it, but it has bread and carrots in vast quantity, so you won't be disappointed, for under $8. read more

I wanted to love this place. I am a big fan of Vietnamese food. The restaurant is not much to look at. The day I went many of the tables were still dirty and not bussed. I had the Shrimp Pho. The broth was bland, the shrimp over cooked and the noodles were soft. It just tasted overdone. I would not rush back here but I may give them another chance when I come back to town. read more

I was in Miwaukee in June 2017 for a large conference. Hoping to stay away from the expensive food vendors in the convention center, I opted to walk a couple of blocks to a subway sandwich place and to my horror, it was closed up. What now? I looked just a couple of doors down and saw Xankia, with customers walking out with food bags in their hands. Why not? I ordered grilled pork with noodles, lettuce, daikon radish and carrot as a carry out. There was small spring rolls also. It was really, really good. I would absolutely visit here again and have anything on the menu. I mentioned this restaurant to several other convention attendees who said they were going to try it - and I hope they did. When I visit Milwaukee again in June 2018, I hope they are still in business. read more

Awesome bahn mi! But think twice before you say yes to the jalapenos. They're no joke.

I ordered a boba tea taro and it was so icy & not good at all. The tapioca was icy as well. When I went to get my money back the manager was not in and they wrote down my name & number. I come back today and the lady said someone called me last night but no one called. She then pointed to a sign stating once you walk out there is no refunds. Wouldn't recommend this place at al. read more

I don't understand the hype behind this place. I came in for lunch on a Wednesday and was immediately confused. The line was almost out the door and I couldn't find a menu anywhere. As the line started to move I eventually found the stack of menus on the counter opposite the register but with the way the restaurant is set up its very hard to see they are there. I got the steak Bahn mi and my boyfriend the pork Bahn mi. We also tried one of their boba teas because they had jackfruit and I couldn't resist. It was busy so I expected the wait, but not 45min for 2 sandwhiches to go.... I over heard others saying "I think she forgot about us" when waiting for their drinks, and saw two others leave after waiting for the cashier to return for 5-10min. They definitely need more staff during lunch hours. There were only two people working, the cashier and the chef. The cashier also had to put together all the Togo meals, deliver food to the tables, and make the drinks which are across the room at a different bar. She didn't have time to interact with customers and place orders. On to the food. The boba tea was atrocious. The pearls weren't cooked enough and the tea itself tasted over processed and fake. The sandwhiches were alright. My boyfriend liked his pork one much better than my steak one. Even if the sandwhiches were great I don't think we'd be back due to the lack of service. read more

Looked for it but nothing there where Yelps map out it! Nothing against them... I was looking forward to some pho... but couldn't find it. TWO DAYS LATER Seems it's on the other end of the block from where Yelp shows! Friendly staff just brought me a nicely sized bowl of pho tai. Th broth has a nice fresh labor, and there's plenty of tai and not to many noodles. Perfect for a cold (or a hot) Saturday afternoon. read more

I was so happy to find a Vietnamese restaurant as good as this in downtown Milwaukee! I was craving a banh mi, which is actually a rare occurrence. Everything on the menu sounded great from the stir fry noodle dishes to the pho, but I had to get what originally made me decide on Xankia. I had the grilled pork banh mi which comes with either egg rolls or fresh spring rolls. I chose the shrimp spring rolls and with the sandwich was only about $8. Way too much food for lunch really! I had half of my sandwich leftover, and probably should've done the same with the second spring roll. What a great price for this amount of food that was great quality! You could tell the baguette was super fresh. My coworker who was with me hadn't ever had a banh mi before and she loved it as well. Highly recommended! read more

It is hard to find a good banh mi in this city, and this place has them. 8 different kinds, I have had 3 so far and they all have been winners. I have tried the egg rolls as well, small but super tasty. I have not yet tried the pho but It looked pretty good. Lots of seating in this place, but if the restaurant is busy you might be waiting a while for your food. My favorite was the house special banh mi. It will cost you around 6 dollars for the sandwich, not bad because the banh mi is on the larger side, very filling :) read more
