A friend and I met here recently to try out their boba. I was craving boba tea, so I suggested we meet here. Neither of us had ever been here before. Bambu is located in a small strip mall. There is seating for about 12 or so folks, and I found a table easily. It was hard to pick from the menu. For a small place, there is an extensive menu list. So I ended up with a coconut mocha coffee with plain boba and it was amazingly delicious. There are so many other interesting flavors and drinks to try, along with smoothies, teas, chè, waffles, and others. While we were there, there was a steady stream of customers coming in, some staying in, and some going out. We were there about 45 minutes and by the end. The interior could use some upkeep (paint/walls). But, the staff were super friendly, and the drinks are great. read more

I love that this place, can't believe I haven't written a review yet, I have been here so many times already that I have lost count! Super friendly, quick service, delicious and refreshing treats that can't really be found elsewhere. It's not just about the boba, though I am a big fan. The pandan waffles are amazing, and the macarons are also a sweet treat. Seriously though, get a waffle. You will NOT regret it. I'm someone who sticks to what they like, Thai tea, but have ventured around the menu several times just to avoid being vanilla. I like a lot of the unique additions but some are just too much for my palate. The lotus seeds for one, beans as well until I got used to the texture. But there's a lot of jellies and fruit that are a little more uncommon in drinks/desserts that I truly appreciate. One item I have ordered blindly was the Mangonada. Not a fan at all but that doesn't mean it's a bad drink. Think of a savory, salty and sweet flavor in a single sip with a hint of spice - to me it's a little off putting. Quite unexpected and definitely not a flavor profile I'm used to. But, I tried! I ordered the "fruit addict" early in, thinking it was a drink, but it's more of a dessert in a cup and I needed a fork to eat a lot of the fruit chunks. The rollercoaster ride of being emotionally devastated when Bambu closed on my hometown, then finding out that they were opening a location in Milwaukee... The humid Midwest summers become much more bearable with their desserts! This is one of my favorite chains to get che and other Vietnamese specialty drinks. Bambu is located conveniently in a little strip mall in West Allis next to a popular Asian grocery store and a couple other restaurants. There's plenty of parking and a small amount of seating inside. The interior is clean and modern; if you come when they're making fresh pandan waffles for customers, the smell is amazingly fragrant! My top recommendation for what to try at Bambu is che. There are a lot of different varieties, but the ones at Bambu are mostly a combination of shaved ice, coconut milk, and a myriad of fruit or jelly toppings. My personal favorite is the Awesome Trio [$6] (similar to che ba mau), which has pandan jelly, red, white, and mung beans, and taro. For those who aren't sure about beans in dessert, don't knock it until you try it- sweetened beans are a very popular dessert option in many Asian countries! All of the che options are pretty filling. Use a spoon to crush up the ice and mix the dessert together before eating. They have a lot of other che options, so you can definitely find one that has the combination of toppings you want! Bambu also offers fresh fruit smoothies, mangonadas, Vietnamese coffees, boba and fruit teas, and yogurt parfaits. For the hottest summer days, I love the mango yogurt parfait [$6.50]- the icy tartness of the yogurt combined with the sweetness of the mango puree cools you down instantly. I'm actually not a huge fan of the boba here, I think the other stuff on the menu is better, but I do like that toppings of the boba are free. If you're hankering for a snack with your drink or dessert, you truly can't go wrong with the pandan waffle [$4.50]. Pandan is a tropical plant that is used in many Asian desserts for its vibrant green color and fragrant flavor. I would say the flavor is kind of like aromatic vanilla and coconut, but not overwhelming. Bambu makes them fresh to order and they're perfect for sharing with a friend (though after you taste it, you might not be willing to share...). They also offer mochi ice cream and French macarons, but those look sort of mass-produced, I'm not sure, so I haven't tried them before. Although I'm writing this review in the dead of winter, I can't wait for summer to come back so I can try more of the items at Bambu! read more

We were visiting Milwaukee for a Father's Day outing and wanted some desserts to accompany our lunch. I randomly found Bambu through Yelp and decided to try it out after all of the positive reviews. It's a quaint store along a small Asian-oriented strip mall, but it was very busy when we arrived! The overall atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed, and their menu is a delight! I opted for a regular iced Vietnamese Coffee as they're difficult to come by. You're able to add toppings (I added coffee jelly) and even adjust the ice and sweetness levels to your liking! The Vietnamese Coffee was phenomenal albeit strong (which I forgot) - the perfect pick-me up! Overall, it was a surprisingly pleasant experience that we were not expecting from Milwaukee. I would come back to try out more of their menu. It's varied and creative enough where I know I can get something different everytime. While not a negative for me, I'd like to briefly mention that their fruit smoothies appear to be from syrup/concentrate. Again, that's not a deal breaker for me, but some may not like the taste of artificial flavours. read more

As a Bay Area native, I had high expectations for this place and they were absolutely met. Myself and some colleagues are regulars here, with my personal favorite being a simple Taro Lover though the Smashed Avocado and Bambú combo were surprise hits. It's a place we definitely seek out despite the drive from Tosa after long work days or weeks as a special treat, and I hope they're able to stay in business for a long time to come. Great menu with tons of options and LOTS of ways to customize your drink.
