My sister and I stopped in here for dinner on a Tuesday. Their menu is Vietnamese with a variety of hearty, creative items. We ordered the: Spring Rolls ($12) - fine Ban Xeo ($18) - big Crepe-like dish, really good, though I was surprised at the scant amount of protein inside Bo Ne ($25) - such a rich dish - I loved using the baguette to sop up the over-easy eggs and pate I suppose the items are on the expensive side for Vietnamese food, but it does feel plated and more high quality than your average pho shop. We heard amazing things about this place from our Vietnamese family members so we decided to check it out when we were in the area. Although the food is good, I can't confidently say I'll be back. Food & drink: (4/5) We had a great start with the calamari with salted egg yolk sauce. The squid was very easy to chew through with almost zero resistance and the batter was incredibly light and crispy. The sauce was pretty light on the salted egg yolk flavor. I found that if the menu hadn't said so, I wouldn't have known it was anything other than a spicy mayo. For our entrees, I got the BBH and my partner got the banh hoi platter. The BBH is definitely one of their must try items. The broth was extremely flavorful and the meat was sooo tender. I just with they included shredded banana blossom since that's a pretty essential topping to have on BBH. It does also have more meat to noodle ratio than most BBHs I've had, so that's something I would keep in mind before ordering. My partner thought the banh hoi platter was a bit disappointing. He said the banh was dried out and the proteins such as the shrimp on sugarcane were a bit bland. He also said he wished they included scallion oil. To wash it all down, I got a kumquat jasmine tea. It definitely ran on the sweeter side but was no issue since I just poured some of my water in it to dilute the drink. Service: (5/5) Outstanding service! We were served by two different people and they were both incredible throughout our entire dinner. Other notes: In most cases, I would leave a review like this at four stars. I'm subtracting one star because I believe there are some management issues based off what I observed just from sitting in. For the most part this place seems to be severely understaffed. When we came to dinner, it was a full house with a line forming but they only had two servers running the entire floor, including those eating outside. Came in on a Tuesday around opening for SRW. The server recommended the banh xeo, which was my partner's first time having it (but definitely not mine; I grew up eating benh xeo) and I was pleased with their execution. Fragrant with coconut milk, crispy edges, and generous pork and shrimp filling. They served it with good nuoc cham and the right fragrant herbs and fresh lettuce. I had the Seattle Restaurant Week menu: pork belly appetizer, pho as my main dish, che thai as my dessert, and a beer. The pork belly was delicious: crispy and well balanced/seasoned. It didn't tasty too fatty and the kumquat was a delicious bright additional. The pho was good, nothing to write home about, but solid portion. The che thai was kind of a small portion for the price but it was good. Strangely out of two of their beers on draft were out that day, so they offered a different IPA can, which was fine. Good spot for Vietnamese food, but nothing I thought stood out in particular. We came around 6pm on a Thursday and it wasn't too busy when we arrived, but shortly after people started trickling in. The seats inside are pretty close together and small, so there isn't too much capacity overall. The decorations and ambiance are really great though! I ordered the com tam, which came with a mound of broken rice and a fried egg, as well as the pork chop, shredded pork, and pork loaf. It also came with a few cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled carrots and daikon, as well as the fish sauce. Overall, the flavors were pretty good. The pork chop was nicely charred and juicy, and the pork loaf and shredded pork were also well seasoned. I did think the rice was a tad dry and less fragrant than other broken rice I've had. I was definitely excited to sit down and try a few items. I ordered both the Halong Bay and the Mekong Secret cocktails. The Halong Bay is a mix of orange infused tropical herb rum, gin, tequila reposado, blue curaçao, and lychee liquor. This drink was powerful and refreshing. The Mekong Secret is also rum based with an added passion fruit liquor, lemon juice, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. This cocktail packed a punch with a fresh taste. For the food, I ordered the Crab Egg Rolls appetizer and the Bún Thịt Nướng with pork. I highly recommend the egg rolls! Flavorful, crispy, and served with a dipping sauce and pickled carrots and daikon. The Bún Thịt Nướng was also delicious, however there was so much lettuce that it could have just been a salad. There aren't many Vietnamese restaurants in the Cap Hill area, and this restaurant is perfect for an ambient dinner with friends. The dishes are quite large and good for sharing, and they offer a wide range of drinks. We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered, particularly the mango salad. The prices can be hefty, so I'd recommend finding dishes that are easy to share. We unfortunately had to wait a while to be seated and served, because the restaurant was severely understaffed. The waitress attending to everybody was doing as best as she could though! I hope this isn't a common occurrence, given I thoroughly enjoyed the food. Xom is a great place to cool off for lunch or casual dinner in Capitol Hill. We went on a Saturday around 7pm and there was a bunch of seating available. I love that they always have the garage door style windows open so you can feel like you're sitting outside. Our server was super nice and let me sample some of their iced teas before making a selection. I went with the pomegranate jasmine iced tea, it has a bitter pomegranate flavor, which I loved. For food I had the Bun Thit Hue (I think that's the name) a cold noodle Vermicelli bowl with pork and veggies. My only remarks about this dish are that there was too much romaine lettuce, (I don't recall this dish ever coming with lettuce in other restaurants), the purple cabbage did not make sense with the flavors happening, there weren't jalapeños, and it could have used more fish sauce. I still enjoyed the freshness of the dish, however, the preparation I am used to just always knocks it out of the park for me. Also, for a dish that usually runs about $14, (it is $20 here) there just wasn't as much flavor. I also didn't see Hoisin sauce anywhere, and forgot to ask for some. That being said, I will come back and try the Tofu Bahn Mi and fries, my friend ordered them it was delicious! XOM has a cute setup with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor area is dog friendly, which is a plus. That said, the food took a surprisingly long time to come out, especially considering there were only about three other tables in the restaurant. Xom is a new Viet option located in Cap Hill and I got to try their $50 restaurant week dinner on a Friday with a couple friends. Overall, the dishes were delicious across the board. Prices are a little high, but expected for the area. Service was understaffed and we ended up remaining at the restaurant for 3+ hours just because of how long it took between courses and flagging down the waiter for the check. Xom has a couple kinks to work out, but generally a great choice for a night out. Crab Egg Rolls (3.75/5): Nice and crispy on the outside, flavor was pretty mild inside. I wish that the crab came through a bit more, but still solid. Xom Wings (4.5/5): Super crunchy outside, fantastic sticky sweet and savory sauce, and tender chicken. My personal favorite of the night. Garlic Butter Seafood (4/5): Amazing bang for your buck - they really fill the bowl with scallops and mussels. I was craving a bit more garlic, but definitely a hit at the table. Bo Ne (3.5/5): In spite of their look, the actual steak itself was well cooked and super tender. Unfortunately, the fries placed on top ended up steamed and soggy. The eggs were also overcooked and I was really missing the richness of the runny egg yolk. Xom Supreme (3.75/5): Loved the broth, light while still having great beef flavor. Noodles were fresh and very soft, which is just not my favorite - I prefer the chewy ones. Banh Flan (4.25/5): Great texture on the flan, super creamy and soft. Bruleed bananas added a nice bit of crunch and extra dimension. Drink wise, the One Fine Day mocktail was far too sweet, but the Mandarin Lemongrass Peach Iced Tea was super fresh and had great tea flavor still coming through. read more

Came here on a Thursday evening for dinner and the place was very chill. I loved the interior decor and vibe, though it was a bit small so I can't imagine what it's like when it's a full house. The grilled cuttlefish appetizer was amazing! Had a great and subtle charred flavor and it was served with a lemongrass/sour sauce that was very flavorful paired with it. I really enjoyed this dish! Also got the bun hue chay (tofu noodle soup). It came with fresh veggies and chili oil which I loved. I asked for extra limes since I like my soups lime-y. Went here during Seattle Restaurant Week and got their premium 3-course meal set. I think out of everything the vibes of this place is amazing. It's in Chophouse Row, my new favorite part of Seattle just to walk around and hang out. The decor inside is totally my style, I love anything with greenery and wooden accents. The portions for the food were hefty, the oxtail pho that I got was massive. My only complaint was that the mean was a little tougher, did not fall off the bone like some other places I went to. The standout was definitely the Garlic Butter Seafoods. Whatever they put in that sauce was immaculate and I actually dipped our Banh Xeo Tacos in it too because I couldn't get enough of it. The Bo Ne also had very tender steak and my boyfriend enjoyed the pate (which he doesn't usually care for). We got really full even by the appetizers and so we had to take stuff to go, but the food reheated pretty nicely! As for desserts, the cheesecake we got wasn't anything to write home about but the FLAN. Oh my gosh if we weren't so full then I would have asked for more. It was sweet but still not so sweet that it was teethrotting. Compliments to the chef. And finally, the peach tea was a bit on the sweeter side so just be warned. Couldn't really finish the whole thing because we were so full. And also our server was so sweet! This place was such a pleasant surprise! My friend and I went for Seattle restaurant week, and the food was delicious, service was lovely, and the decor was on point. I had the muc chien (fried calamari), com tam (pork chop, pork skin, meatloaf, with rice and veggies), and tiramisu. First off, the portion sizes were huge; I took half of my food home. Second, that was some of the best fried calamari I have ever had. And third, the main dish was a really nice surprise. I didn't know what to expect, but the pork chop was well cooked and seasoned, the pork skin strands were really interesting, and the meatloaf was surprisingly delicious and moist. I've also since reheated them at home, and it held up pretty well. They don't take reservations, so I don't know what waiting is like during peak times, but on a Thursday at 7:30, it was easy to get a table, and it seemed like it slowed down after us anyway. We went here for Seattle restaurant week and we had a reservation for 6:30 and we were seated immediately when we got there. As we ordered, our waitress notified us that many of the items on the Seattle restaurant week menu were already out. This was pretty disappointing to us but we made do. After we ordered, the waitress came back and said what I had ordered was also out. We also asked if we could upgrade the drinks included on the Seattle restaurant week menu and just pay the difference and were told that was not allowed. My friend got the spring rolls and upon getting them realized it had peanuts which she is allergic too, she told the waitress immediately and the waitress brought her a new dipping sauce. We asked her if there were peanuts in the rolls themselves and she said no but we asked her to check the kitchen as looking at the rolls, it looked like it had peanuts. She went to the kitchen and confirmed that there were peanuts. In the end my friend and I switched appetizers as there weren't any other items to order on the menu. Overall all the food was mid, my friends were really disappointed that the crab rolls and wings were out as the rest of the items weren't very appetizing to us. The pork belly was fine but we felt it was too salty to be on its own without rice.the spring rolls were fine but those are so easy to make and aren't any better than the ones I can make at home. We got the pho and the banh mi and both were fine, the banh mi came with fries which I was surprised about but sure why not. The cheesecake was fine and just tasted like generic grocery store cheesecake, we all thought the tiramisu was terrible though --- too sweet and artificial and neither of my friends could finish even half. Both of the mocktails were just fine. In the end the food was just fine and nothing impressed me, all the food we wanted to order wasn't even available. We did express the disappointment so in the end our waitress did comp our drinks and was very nice and expressed her apologies but I'm still disappointed in the restaurant. I felt like the service and everything was mid at every step of the way: things were out and it was surprising since we were there pretty early, we weren't allowed to upgrade our drinks, the waitress wasn't knowledgeable about ingredients in their foods that are common allergies, and I guess she had offered allowing us to pick something else or even on the main menu or something as everything else was crossed off --- my friend had only 1 appetizer choice that had no peanuts, they didn't even offer to remake it without peanuts. As a Vietnamese person, obviously I judge Vietnamese food harsher than others because I've tried so many variations and recipes from my mom's to the street vendors in Vietnam. I think Xom's food is flavorful and they've definitely gotten the right ingredients. Some things tasted too sweet for me, but overall everything was tasty and fresh. The seafood platter/tower comes with two pieces of mussels, oysters, shrimps, scallops, and grilled octopus. The oysters were amazing with the sauce that they put on top. Trying to recover from last week disastrous bowl of pho, I wanted to go to another Vietnamese restaurant. Xom is like a little bit upgraded Vietnamese restaurant (similar to Ba Bar). We ordered 4 5 dishes * Noble scallop with butter and garlic: the flavor was great and the amount of Scallops is generous. I just wish the broth were a little bit denser * Chicken wings with passionfruit sauce: wings are crispy and moist but I couldn't taste any passionfruit * Broken rice: the pork chop was really flavorful. Fish sauce was ok and maybe it's intentional but it lacks the fresh chili flavor * Sizzling beef: beef was tender but it needed a little but more salt and the pate was good. * Xom supreme: basically the special Pho with oxtail, eye round. We came in around 9pm on a Saturday. The interiors was very cute and clean. They were closing down one side of their restaurant so we were sat to share a big table with another party. The drinks were delicious! My friends who got the vegetarian pho (bun hue chay) loved her dish. I ordered the xom supreme but it didn't come as many oxtails and bone marrow as I would hoped. The soup was also too much so the flavor was a bit diluted. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Parking was street parking which was normal for cap hill. read more

Yummy as always! The Banh Hoi platter was good, though I wish their mam nem dipping sauce was better (their nuoc mam dipping sauce was on point!) The morning glory stir fry was good though it leaned more on the salty side. The Xom Wings were good, but I wish they were more juicy inside rather than dried out.
