    Lots and lots of beer
    Jen W.

We arrived in the area early for a restaurant reservation nearby and had enough time to stop into Chuck's Hop Shop for a beverage. This is quite the place. First: So. Many. Beers. The entire back wall is beer coolers. And it's a sizeable wall. You can purchase canned/bottled beers 'to go' or consume them on site, however, an employee must open them for you and there is a 'corkage fee' for said requirement. This is not a surprising expense to me and since I'm unfamiliar w/local laws, may be necessary. Back to the beer. Across the room from the beer coolers is a counter where you can order draft beers and food. There was a long line during our early evening visit - back to the coolers and around to the middle of the room. This gives plenty of time to check out the on-draft beer menu on electronic boards above the counter. They also have bagged snacks (chips), burgers, fries, sandwiches, salads and wings on offer. Two restrooms are right off the interior dining (drinking?) area. A smaller room is off to the side that was a bit quieter. The interior rooms are dark. An outside dining/drinking area runs along the street side of the building. This space was full during our visit. In front (on the side-street side of the building) is a small area with picnic tables and a food truck. A couple of families with small children were in this area. Besides beers, there is a cooler near the entrance with soft drinks (soda, iced tea, fruit drinks) and ice cream. Parking is on street. Prices are reasonable. The beer drinkers (IPA's) enjoyed their draft brews. Very laid back, large selection, no fuss, family friendly, good to meet up with friends, location. We'd return when in the area.

Really solid hop shop, smells like one as soon as you walk in. The selection of beer is incredible since they have a whole back fridge of stuff if you ever get bored of what's on tap. You can bring your own food too! Do note that they charge a corkage fee for opening any of their canned beers on premise.

My colleague who also turned out to love beer gave me a couple of recommendations to me for beers since I let him know that I made sure I carved out some time to do some beer exploring. He brought Chuck's up and the closest one was this one. I walked in and I liked this place, a weird hodgepodge of bottle shop/beer bar/beer garden/food truck park and strangely, an ice cream shop. Before I sat down to have a beer I wanted to peruse their bottle selection for souvenirs to take home. Their beers were organized pretty easily and so I got up there with, probably more beers than I should have and you could tell that there were much beloved regulars. There was a lot of conversation and in any other situation I would have enjoyed it but not when my grip was going from awkwardly holding all bottles and cans I decided to take with me. Fortunately, I was able to set my goods down before something bad happened and I had time for one drink. The beertender had switched out but he was still friendly-and I let him know my situation and the time constraint I'm under. He recommended that I try the beer made just for the shop, a hazy and while I'm not picky about styles I will say that hazies are popular but can be executed poorly. Their beer here was not that and was a tasty last drink before I packed my to-gos up and headed to the airport.

Refrigerator case of packaged ice cream goods!

Lots of beers and laid back vibe- it's a nice place to gather as a group of any size, including one. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and kids seem to be allowed. You order at the counter, and grab a seat! Super simple. The only thing I can really add that others haven't is that they have ice cream! They have an ice cream case that you can get scoops from (I think $3 for a single scoop), and a refrigerator case with packaged ice creams.

Chucks Hop Shop. Land of 1000 beers. Well not all at the same time of course but they have 50 at a time here which is a lot and it's awesome. Options are never a bad thing, and such is the case here. I've had some equally awesome beers here like the Cavatica and Sub Harmonics Hazy and then it you're wondering "wow do I try something else potentially great or get another pour of that rad beer I just had?" choice is yours. What's that you want to keep trying different beers and just take home that rad beer? Why of course they have a take home cans and growlers! It isn't just one or two fridges here, there are like ten! All loaded with beer! How's the staff? Great! They're always real friendly and make good recommendations. In fact, the current #18 "Friends to the End" (a reference to one of my favorite horror movies) may be also now my favorite Stout ever. They don't serve food here, but they do have popcorn and candy which is better than nothing, and then of course there are food trucks there and can be found on their calendar. Chucks is probably the best taproom I've been to. With everything I mentioned above and a large and awesome outdoor seating arrangement as well as a few seats inside, if you're like me, and like beer. This is a taproom to absolutely be checked out.

Four half- Pints: Mango Cider, Semi sweet Cider, Pineapple and Meyer Lemon Sours

Very nice outdoor seating (some heated) and indoor shop with a humongous variety of beer. Food truck parked on the sidewalk. Very cool, helpful staff :) Tried the Mango Cider (basically tasted like mango juice with a splash of beer, delicious), Semi-sweet Cider, Meyer Lemon Beer (VERY lemony), and Pineapple Sour (couldn't taste the pineapple). No flights but you can get half pints of all drinks! We paid about $20 for four half pints.

Great bar with SO many options for beers! You can find anything you want from the fridge, or order at the bar for something on tap. Lots of indoor seating, and ample outdoor seating as well. Very chill ambience :)

Rose Slushies + outdoor tables with shade = perfectly Spring drinking! The Slushies are delicious and our doggie enjoyed chilling with us. The shop is still practicing excellent Covid safety protocols ~ masks indoor, sanitizers everywhere, social distancing. Awesome job, Chuck.

One person in a socially-distanced space for 40. You'd think they would have room for a party of one to join?

Suggest not supporting Chuck's due to their (1) pervasively bitchy attitude, and (2) their policies that don't make any sense. I do hope the owner understands the bad impression the Cap Hill staff continues to make on customers. I've long frequented the Ballard location on 85th St. Amazing beer selection. Nice people. Today I went to Cap Hill Chuck's for the third time - and I'm kicking myself for giving them another chance! During COVID times are tough on everyone, especially small businesses, and we all need to adapt. At 415pm on a Tuesday there was one customer here. One! With outside seating for 30 or 40 in a socially distanced manner. Because I didn't have a reservation, I was turned away. The particularly snarky hipster working the counter gave me a once over, and apparently didn't like my puffy vest. She said there was no seating available and reservations were required. I understand. When NOONE is here, and you have seating for another 30+ people, you don't turn away customers. This is the third instance of extreme hipster bitchiness. I will never visit either Chuck's again. Suggested everyone chooses to support businesses that don't treat their customers like sh*t. I always let the appearance of Chuck's slide...for the beer...of course. No longer! Please support small businesses - and those that treat customers with a touch of respect.

Shout out to Chuck's for keeping customers safe.

Chuck's has come to be my favorite neighborhood joint for the 7 years that I have lived near the Central District, to the point that my husband and I affectionately refer to it as our "living room". An incredible list of 50+ local rotating taps, a bottle shop full of rare and interesting beers, snacks, dogs, food trucks, delightful beertenders - this spot has it all. Chuck's has adapted well to the Plague Times. They now require reservations for their two spacious outdoor seating areas (one heated!) so please plan accordingly. They understand the latest science behind transmission and they're taking it seriously. As somebody who enjoys being alive and plans to continue doing that, I appreciate it. There are some recent reviews left by salty anti-maskers. Ignore them. Everybody who works at Chuck's is a delightful sweetheart who is trying to do their job, keep people safe, and stay open. I have no sympathy for people who (literally, actually) spit in the faces of workers because they forgot to make reservations and then run to Yelp to type out crocodile tears about how they were mistreated. Thank you, employees of Chuck's, for protecting the rest of us.

No those aren't arrivals and departures. Those are the beers available on tap.

The…read moreambiance here is intimate and the music isn't too loud which is great while sipping some beers. There are several beers and some ciders on tap from all around and all the ipa's I've tried here have been pretty decent. from there you grab your brew and have a seat at high top tables within the tap room. Again, the setting is mid-sized good for a couple groups of four and a few two person tables. Music is at a decent volume and is lit dimly making it decent for a date spot or just a place to have conversation without raised voices. Fridges line the tap room so you can mix and match beers, ciders and wines to take out which is cool. I like Bottleworks, I want to enjoy it more, but there are some issues holding me to 3 stars. The staff are...alright. Not bad, but I feel could be a little friendlier. Also they don't allow sample pours? This is a common thing at most breweries, but maybe it's because this is a tap room, but beers run a bit higher here - $8-9 a pour so that's annoying that you can't even try a couple. Lastly, they rotate things out it seems weekly. Some of the more popular options I suppose they keep but seems like a lot of turn around on the drinks so if you like something they have on tap, don't get too attached. Perhaps on subsequent visits It will improve, and I can boost the score here, but besides the decent beers and setting, it's just OK here.
