Super convenient location tucked onto the main road by the Ballard locks. We stopped by for a super late lunch and each ordered a sandwich along with two soups to share. The main thing that really threw me off was that two of the three sandwiches that we ordered had extremely sour profiles. that was kind of the theme of this meal. The sandwiches had sour peppers in them, they came with really sour pickles, and the tomato soup that they had for the day was also on the sour side. I'm usually not one to shy away from pickles in my burgers, but the taste was pretty overwhelming in these and by the end of the meal I was soured out. fortunately, the Hershey's kiss they gave us after the meal really saved the day. for the price i wasn't super impressed by the quantity. but it's a very cute spot and I'm looking forward to checking out what else ballard has to offer! read more

Inside is where the party seems to be but they offer great outdoor seating where you can take in the sights and sounds of Ballard. Service is very friendly but a little slow, especially if you're outside. I had the Porky's Revenge (brie, ham, apple arugula) and tomato basil soup (made with coconut milk - SO good). Husband had "Jumbolaya" which was hearty and spicy, with a reuben. Let's talk about that dessert. A hot brownie topped with whiskey ice cream--boozy, melty, and hands-down my favorite ice cream in the city. I grew up on rum raisin, so this one brings me right back. Every now and then the batch is extra spiked and melts faster, but I'm not complaining. Our server Mickey was a gem--turns out he's the mastermind behind the Ballard Drinking Team. It's a lowkey beer challenge: 99 beers in a year (about 2 a week), and your hundredth is free. You get a custom trophy mug with your name and story on it, discounts on fridge beers, and by then, Mickey will have your taste dialed in. You even get to sample special releases to pair well with one of their famous crack pretzels. Honestly, it's genius. Kiss Café has that local, laid-back energy. I always catch dates here--maybe for the Monte Cristo, maybe for the brownie, maybe just for the name. They have exciting flavor profiles, there is a WIDE variety available, and TBH, me and my pal are just going to order two different sandwiches and share havsies. More than that, however, to my mind, a sandwich is a convenience food that you can eat with your hands without rolling your sleeves up and asking for extra napkins. So there are a ton of "great" sandwich shops I just don't go to, because I don't want to wash my hands up to my elbows and wash my face and beard after eating. We found this place after a visit to the Nordic museum. It's very small and crowded but they are so welcoming! Service is friendly and pretty quick. Very patient with questions. I had sandwich combo of veg head and mushroom barley soup. Soup was full of mushrooms, carrots, celery and barley. Very flavorful. Veg head sandwich had to be pressed down to fit in my mouth! He had the jambalaya. It was full of chicken breast and sausages. Just spicy enough. Only problem was we got a brownie to go and it was super dry and tasteless. A great little lunch spot in Ballard. We were just looking for a sandwich and a beer close to the Locks and this was a great find. The service was quick and food was tasty. We enjoyed Porky's revenge with tomato soup and Johnny's tighty whitey. Both sandwiches were delicious. They also have a lot of local canned beers. Are you in the mood for a sandwich? Like just a good old fashioned sandwich, without remoulades or aiolis or infused oils or rare aged cheeses or any of that fancy pants nonsense? Then go to Kiss. Kiss Cafe is a Ballard gem and long-time favorite of mine and I don't understand how I've neglected to review them for so long. As I mentioned, they make classic, no-frills sandwiches and they do it goddamn well. My favorites are the Dagwood (plus onions and brown mustard) and the Turkey Pesto. Their sourdough is great, and perfectly toasted. The sandwiches are large, and filled with generous portions of always-fresh meats and veggies. It's not a complicated formula, but it's freaking delicious. Sandwiches come with Tim's chips (they make the best jalapeño chip around, in case you didn't know), or you can sub soup or salad for an upcharge. They're also served with a side of pickles. They used to give you a whole jar of big homemade ones to snack on at the table, but alas, no more (a covid-era change). Those things were amazing and I miss them, but the current dill chips ain't too bad. They also have an epic cooler of ever-changing beers on hand. Always a good selection and a wide range of varieties - whoever does the curating here has spectacular taste. If one of your goals this year is to try more beers, joining Kiss' "Ballard Drinking Team" is your ticket to excellence my friend. Last note: they have a nice little outdoor seating area out front. It's unfortunately on the perpetually shady side of the building, but that may not be such a bad thing if you need a break from the heat on a sunny day, and it provides good people watching on the sidewalk. So badly wanted this place to be great, but fell short in all departments. The food was mediocre- the "hot pressed sandwiches" were far from hot or pressed. Second, a funny thing is that on the menu there's something called "Veruca Salt" that expedites your order, and it's the best thing I've seen. It's 100% and the fact that they added "Daddy, I want it now" is the best thing I think. ANYWAYS! This is one of the better places I've ever been. The service is almost perfect. First off, the latte was way too good! Definitely heartwarming and delicious. The big cheese sandwich was pretty good too. The cheddar and pepper jack blended together well. This is a small location, but worth the wait. I had the chicken arugula and it was very good. I felt full for hours. There was a little glitch for the table orders and the staff made it right immediately and with a smile. Stumbled upon this cute little cafe while walking down Market Street. We walked in and were immediately greeted with a smile and a "welcome in" by both employees, and every single customer that walked in after us the same. Our server (Veronica) really seems like she enjoys her job, walks around singing, smiling and talking with the regulars. She's very polite, welcoming and prompt with service. She even recommended a few beers for my boyfriend that he really loved. The selection of food on the menu is phenomenal, lots of options and great menu items (I couldn't decide on my own, needed Veronica's suggestions). The music was also really great in my opinion. Don't bother- I came in after reading the reviews and I was going to be in Ballard for an errand. There is a zero wait because people leave after being ignored. The service was horrible- you are not greeted...a woman who works there just asked me "are you going to dine in" but before she even just asked me that- she just stared at me a few times passing me unwelcoming looks. She was friendly to only certain people-While I was eating these 2 ladies came in they stood there for like 5 minutes the waitress- host person looked at them...never greeted them-never said a thing and the two ladies eventually walked out...looking irritated. All my food was COLD...and it was not that busy-like at all. I visited in the middle of the day on a weekday. Food took forever to get out-but I will assure you my bill came out swiftly- my sandwich was supposed to come with Chips ZERO- I think soup was ladled out first then sat there until my sandwich was done. The tomato soup also had a weird curry taste (I love curry- but it was unexpected and cold- just plain gross like they did not wash out the put and it had a leftover taste). If I could give 10 stars I would! I can't think of a single way this place isn't amazing! If I lived here, I'd be here every day! They allow dogs inside, which is already 5 stars for me. The decor is cute and homey, with bandanas as napkins (Yay eco friendly). Then, there's the food! Everything on the menu is drool worthy, so it took us quite a bit of debating to settle on splitting the Frida and the Monte Cristo. The Frida can be done in tacos or a burrito, but we did a burrito. While we waited for our food, we got a kissmosa (pineapple mimosa) and coffee. They also brought us water and it had a cucumber in it. Yum! The mimosa was delicious - not overpoweringly sweet, and not too bitter. Just right! Our food came perfectly warm but not to hot to dig right into! Both dishes were amazing. They tasted so fresh, plus the Frida comes standard with avo. The salsa with the burrito and the jam with the sandwich were the perfect complements. Both came with fresh fruit that was seasonal and wonderful. I hate when you get fruit that is mushy and nasty. This was the oppposite! Fresh kiwi, watermelon, orange, grapes, and even some honeydew. What can I say to express how much I love Kiss Cafe? It's like a good friend, a fixture of humanity in a quickly changing city, providing real comfort food and just the absolute best staff and patrons. Just approaching Kiss along the sidewalk, I can smell the waft of satisfaction I'm about to enjoy. Inside, there's a wide variety of single beers for sale, usually one or two baked goods (like cookies), and a TV or two showing comfort romcoms and sitcoms on mute (like Schitts Creek). The people behind the counter and in the kitchen are just wonderful. As far as food, my faves are the hot pressed tuna melt, big cheese, the caprese, jambalaya, and affogoto. I bike or drive from where I live in Fremont just for this experience. Street parking is generally in the neighborhood to the north across Market St (like along 28th Ave or 56th St). I'd say it's intermittent dog-friendly: if your dog behaves, no one would say anything. Kiss, you're amazing. read more

My wife and I are visiting family in Seattle and stopped at the KISS café for lunch based its 4 1/2 star rating on yelp . The sandwiches were outstanding ! My mother was from New Orleans so I ordered jambalaya as a side it was also great . The staff was very friendly and helpful and the food was so good we purchased a $100 gift certificate for our son's 38th birthday . They have a unique Drinking club that you can join at the café !!
