I'll start with the high points. Incredibly nice people. I think our server was one of the owners. Very unique pizza names and ingredient combinations. Small space and uncluttered but has a definite vibe--call it low key hiking lover hipster? If you want to dine-in, it's reservations only. We made an online reservation about 10 days in advance and had zero issues getting a table. Your reservation is only for 60 mins. Not sure if you get the boot then but we were in and out in about 50 mins. They also had super rad posters for their specialty pizzas available for $5. Yes, we bought one. How could we not? It was drawn by a local artist AND was for the pizza we decided to try. Score! Now, as for the pizza. We didn't like it. Mainly because it was SO greasy. It was dripping in grease and honestly just the upper half of the pizza was enjoyable. Flavors were bold and earthy but the grease took away from it all. Good crust-nice and chewy and you could tell it was fresh. They serve up wood fire pizza here and have specialty pizzas they swap out from time to time. Since we ordered a specialty pizza we could only order a 14" pizza which was a bit too big for two people but not impossible to get through most of it. Drinks like Sprechers root beer is available along with beer and wine. They offer 20% off wines on Wednesday! Finally decided to come here for dinner after taking this spot off my list due to the "rules" of picking up pizza or placing orders etc... so we never came. So now that we can dine in and place reservations online we finally made it and i am so happy we came! First it's a very small space so reservations are a must and you must specify qty of pizzas ordering ahead of time. Pizza can take a while but its worth it. Order some appetizers and drinks during the wait. You can't substitute their signature pies so you'll have to build your own with only 3 topping options. So we ordered a pizza with roasted mushrooms, sausage and green olives. This pizza made it to my number one spot. Wow was it delicious. The crust was so crispy and those roasted mushrooms were my favorite. I ordered the pear cider (will have again) and my bf had a cherry IPA beer which was super good. Just beware they dont have any canned soda besides sprecher products or la croix. We will be coming back and i definitely will want to try the focaccia bread appetizer. I came to Wy'east Pizza after seeing that a few of my classmates had gone to this spot. I was very intrigued by the types of pizza offered. I ordered a glass of IPA and the Diablo Picante with crickets on the side. The pizza is overall pretty good. The candied jalapeños made the pizza a little too sweet for my taste. I think the pizza would've been fine with just plain jalapeños. The pizza came out very hot. The presentation of the pizza was good. I had two very solid cheese pulls when I went for my slices. Service was excellent. Very attentive. The only thing is that the drink menu wasn't the most up-to-date. I was hoping to get one of the beers that ended up not being available. I love Wy'east!!! When I lived in the Washington Heights neighborhood we would order take out regularly, and now I'm sad to have to drive across the city to pick up. The service is always great - the owners are lovely people. My favorite pizzas are the Hot Marmot and some of the seasonal specials. I'm also obsessed with the focaccia bread! I've worked minutes from Wy'east Pizza for more than four years, but only recently stopped for the first time. I carried out a Cape Blanco pizza which has olive oil, ricotta, mozzarella, pecorino, herbs, fresh garlic, cracked pepper, and sausage. As you can see in the picture I provided, they don't skimp on the ricotta or sausage. Other than the few parts of crust that were charred a bit more than I prefer, I thought the pizza was great and would gladly have it again if someone else is buying. I say "if someone else is buying" because the pizza is pricey at $21 before tax and tip. I get it; they are a non-chain restaurant and need to complete against more convenient and/or prevalent chain restaurants and I don't fault them for that. To me, though, this is a once-in-a-great-while pizza as compared to a regular occurrence simply due to the cost. read more

A review for this restaurant from me is long overdue as Wy'east is a staple in our take out rotation. Having grown up in Chicago, pizza for me always meant either thin tavern style pizza cut into neat squares or the occasional foray into deep dish pizza. Living in Milwaukee, there were plenty of similar options to occupy my interests. And then Wy'east turned it all upside down. My best description of pizza from Wy'east is a brick oven Neapolitan-esque pizza...but better. The pizzas are larger than traditional Neapolitan pizzas and one can easily feed two, probably three people. The dough is excellent and doesn't limply flop like many Neapolitan pizzas do under the weight of toppings. And leftovers the next days are heavenly after a couple minutes in an air fryer. Both the white and red pizzas are superb here, and the cheese actually sticks to the dough (one of the shortcomings of tavern style pizza). The hot marmot is a regular go to, and the Orion/Milky Way which is a seasonal white pizza is absolutely amazing. Easily one of the best pizza places I've tried in the MKE area! Ordered take out on a Sunday. Got the Cape Blanco and Hogsback (unfortunately/fortunately not called Hogsack from a diff review). Heard how great this place is and it lived up to the billing. Crust has a nice crunch and enough to hold while being soft where it matters (you're likely thinking of hogsack again...). Sauce on both was well proportioned. Ingredients were fresh and generous. Ricotta on Blanco was perfect. Many places over do it but this was spot on. My only hesitation is the pie selections. Some places I get anxiety picking just 1-2. There weren't a lot that SOUNDED appealing. Probably wrong on that if I tried them but they could benefit from having a few more traditional options IMO. Could just be the Italian in me speaking. I also get frustrated reading reviews when someone who hates spice tries something with peppers and leaves 1 star bc it was "too hot." Either way, try this spot read more

Our feeling after eating here is just like one of the previous reviewers: why didn't we try this place sooner? This is definitely a tosa pizza gem. Hubby and I heard a lot of good comments about this restaurant so we decided to check it out on National Pizza Day. It was a cold and super snowy Sunday evening. We were welcomed by three warm smiley faces behind the counter as we walked in. Compact, clean, cozy restaurant with warm-toned lighting and lovely pizza aroma. We already felt good about the place. After sitting down, we could not make a decision on whether to have the Hot Marmot or the Sunday special Ring of Fire. Then we were told that the Ring of Fire pizzas were sold out already (they open at 3:30 but it was just 6:00pm at that time!) because of lots of take-out orders. We went for The Hot Marmot and had no regret at all. It looked huge in size, but should be enough for 1 hungry guy, or 2 normal diners, or 3 people who are not that hungry. Thin, airy, slightly flaky and chewy crust. A good amount of toppings. The soul is that delicious, juicy, and slightly sour Mama Lil's sweet hot peppers. The garlic is not overpowering. Pizza was amazinggggg. We got the cape blanco and it was one of the best pizzas I had. The crust was amazing. Our waitress was very friendly and we were able to sit outside which was nice! It is on a busy road so it was kinda loud on the patio but good to enjoy the sun. I wouldn't recommend getting their salads as they are kind of small and aren't really special but it was good. Yum! Finally came here after living in the neighborhood for 3 years and DEFINITELY will be back soon. Amazing crust- crunchy yet chewy at the same time and a great variety of toppings. WY didn't I try this place sooner?!? The pizzas are phenomenal! Maybe the best I've ever had! We had the Loowit and the Zig-Zag and argued for 10 minutes over which one was best before settling on on a tie. I am not a crust lover, typically I leave them on the side of my plate as a reminder of how many pieces I've eaten. However, this crust was soft and airy like a freshly baked loaf of bread, I was tempted to put some butter on it like a soft bread stick. Highly recommend! Super cool place. We just moved to MKE, and a friend said we HAD to go here because they have the best pizza. We love pizza, and when someone tells us the pizza is THAT good, we listen. IMPORTANT to know - tiny word fired oven - you've got to reserve a space for your pie - dine in or to go. We were lucky to find a spot. Reservations are for one hour only, We booked 4 pizzas for 6 people. That was too much pizza, we wanted leftovers, I'm not sorry. It was really good. The location is easy to find, Good signage, tiny parking lot, small dining room, very clean. Staff are super friendly. A few people dining at the same time seemed to be regulars. I think our server was one of the owners - she had food and drinks ready to go when another table arrived - so they must come in a lot! We studied the menu ahead of time so we would not waste table time ordering. We also tried 2 salads - house and arugula, garlic bread. The dipping sauce for the bread was great. We good basic cheese and 1 pepperoni (kids, so boring), and tried ring of fire and 3 sisters. Super fast service. The crust is amazing. Nice chew, char, doughiness. Not too thick and not too thin. I'd concur with another reviewer who said its a bit on the greasy side. Nothing a few napkins can't fix, if that kind of thing bothers you... I could do with 50% less cheese on the pizza, but I am not a huge cheese person (sorry Wisconsin, please don't disown me.) Maybe more vegan or cheese-less pie options (same pie, no cheese for a discount?) Also, I didn't see it, but I'd LOVE if they sold their dough?! It's not the same without the wood fired crisp, but the dough its like... amazing. So, so good. Cook it a freeze it and sell it to bake later? I adore this spot. When I first moved to Milwaukee (a year ago), I lived in Washington Heights for a couple months. It was my supreme luck that my airbnb was about a three minute walk from Wy'east Pizza. They make a killer margharita, but my go-to has become their white pies. Their white pies all come with an olive oil base topped with herbs, shredded mozzarella, ricotta, and pecorino cheeses. They then differ by the additional toppings. One of my all time faves is their cloud cap, which comes with fresh mushroom, garlic, and rosemary. My other favorite is their cape blanco which comes topped with sausage, garlic, and cracked pepper. Even better, I get their cloud cap with sausage added (omg. delectable!). They have a small dining room for dining in, or, of course you can do takeout. Oh! And, in warmer months, they have outdoor seating as well. They typically have four local craft beers on tap (nice!) in addition to a decent bottle selection. I've heard, due to the thinness of the crust, they have some topping limitations, so if you like your pie loaded-this might not be the spot for you. Fortunately, I am more than happy with their specialty pies as is (with the occasional addition of sausage, which they have always been able to do for me). So, it is most definitely the spot for me. This was a great little pizza place. We sat on the patio which was very quaint. They also had a small dining area inside which was cute too. Our waiter was very attentive and made sure we had what we needed. Most importantly the pizza was awesome. The crust was a perfect thickness and the pizza was cut in slices which is critical for a good pie. We had the Hot Marmot which was wonderful. The sauce was great and there was a good amount of pepperoni on the pizza. Also, there was a little bit of a kick from the pizza due to the sweet hot peppers. Finally, for a small pizza place Wy'East had a great variety of beers to enjoy with our pizza. Wy'east has lots of great options for vegetarians. We got the seasonal special, Mattercorn, which was delicious, and the Hot Marmot, which was even better. I shared with my boyfriend and I'm glad we ordered two pizzas and had leftovers because one might not have been enough for our big appetites without a side dish. I truly appreciate the many precautions the owners are taking for COVID-19. There was no indoor dining, masks are required at all times during pickup, and they ask that you call when you arrive and have your trunk or car door open so they can place it in your car. Hi, this is Dominic the food reviewer. Today I tried a restaurant called Wy'east Pizza. It is located on 5601 W. Vliet St, Milwaukee, WI 53208. They are open Tues-Thur 4:30-8:30pm, Fri and Sat 4:30-9pm, and Sunday 3:30-8pm. During this review, James Groh from TMJ4 news joined me and will be doing a story on my review. I will link the story when it comes out on my page. I had so much fun doing this review with James. I met the owners of Wy'east, Ann and James. They were very friendly and nice. They are originally from Wisconsin, and lived in Portland Oregon for many years. James wanted to learn to make his own pizzas, so they started a food truck in Portland Oregon that they ran for 4 years. They moved back to Milwaukee, where they opened Wy'east Pizza in May 2016. It's located where Boy Blue Ice Cream used to be on Vliet St. Wy'east is the native name for Mount Hood in Portland Oregon. I thought the decor was decorated kind of like a Mountain Lodge. It was very modern and clean inside. This is a counter service place. You order at the counter, then you can sit down, and they bring your pizza to the table. It is a small place with 8 or so tables. You can also get your pizza carry-out. They have pizza that is a cross between New York style and Neapolitan style Pizza. The most popular pizza there was the Hot Marmot. Which has Pepperoni, Fresh Garlic, & Sweet Hot Peppers. Their Appetizer they're known for is the Sour Dough Focaccia with Balsamic Dip. The Pizza is cooked in a very cool Gas Fired Domed Italian Pizza oven. I tried the Hot Marmot pizza and the Focaccia. I thought my pizza had a nice kick to it. It had a delicious flavor. My Sour Dough Focaccia was fresh tasting and appetizing. This is Dominic the food reviewer. We four were not in the best of moods when we walked into Wy'east Pizza. Our original restaurant destination had closed the day before, without notice, which we realized when we arrived at its door. This first visit to Wy'east Pizza improved our moods quickly. Not knowing our sour attitudes, the co-owner welcomed us as if we were regular customers. Her positive attitude and service continued throughout our meal. Had salads and garlic toast. The pizzas we ordered had the usual toppings but much better crusts than usual and were served quickly from the ceramic oven. Though limited to three toppings, we were not disappointed with either taste or texture.
