Wow I was blown away by brunch at Wu Chow! Everything is so delicious! I wish they clearly marked vegan options, but our server was helpful and asked the kitchen when she wasn't sure. The scallion pancakes and veggie dumplings were SO good! I was a bit unclear if the sauce was or not vegan-never got a clear answer. But regardless, I'd be back!!! read more

Dim Sim Brunch? A total win! Ordered the Dan Dan Noodles, Soup Dumplings and Minced Meat Bao. ALL were exquisite , in fact I snuck a bite before grabbing the pictures lol. Service was wonderful as well, especially quick considering how busy they were. We were told they are farm to table and serve everything fresh instead of on carts which is what I traditionally see. Loved the vibe and aesthetic as well, overall great atmosphere. I would suggest reservations , it was just us two and only available was bar but overall a wonderful experience! read more

The food is pretty good. Being Austin the dishes can be pricier with less variety for dim sum. nice staff and space though

How is a 5 piece dim sum charged $14?!? It's definitely mediocre dim sum at best! And that's me being generous! It doesn't come with a side of chili oil! Why is this so over priced? Also our server told us everything was supposed to be family style shareable. But the chili chicken entree we ordered was barely enough for one! Also even that wasn't much flavorful. This is one of those over hyped places in Austin downtown. This place is not it if you are used to better dim sums on the west or east coast! The two stars are for the ambiance. read more

Good food for as you local chinese take out, nothing more. Food was just Okay, nothing special. I had BOK Choy and Mushrooms, brown sauce was kinda blend, as for Chiitake mushrooms, I could taste they were previously dried and served as whole, Not apetiazing with mini, little bit over cooked BOK chow. Crispy Sesame Beef was good, delicious sauce but meat it self did not have too much flavor. Steamed Rice was overcooked, that part I just do not get, how can chinese over cook their rice. would definitely be my staple Friday and Movie at home meal. read more

First of all, I love a place where they serve chop sticks first (no fork) and ask questions later. Ha! It feels somehow more authentic. And they totally profiled me because I noticed that they brought a fork to the old guy with the gray beard and American flag bandanna without him specifically requesting it -- and I'm TOTALLY okay with this. In fact, I prefer it that way. I don't really have many favorite Chinese spots in Austin (probably because I spend most of my time eating tacos) but I have a feeling that this one is going to be a frequented stop for me. Though the lunch menu seems fairly limited at first glance, I was pleased to discover that they're willing to do five of the ten main entree dishes as a vegetarian option -- even the ones with chicken and shrimp. I ordered the "四川雞" - Chengdu Chili Tofu [tofu, wok-tossed with dried Sichuan chili peppers, house-made chili oil, carrots, asparagus, and local cabbage]. The crunch on that tofu is surprisingly satisfying. Wow! The spice-factor was absolutely perfect for me. (I had a glistening brow by the end and definitely needed to blow my nose.) The veggies seemed fresh and prepared to a perfect crisp-tender. It looks like they had a a decent and lively lunch crowd. I didn't have to wait because I chose a single seat at the bar. The host was pleasant and both the bartender and the runner were attentive and accommodating. As an added bonus, they had two of my favorite tiki mugs on display [Texas Tiki Week 2014 "Bull Mug"]. read more

Visited for date night with my wife after traveling for work. First, we probably should have known better than requesting the patio in July even though it was a cloudy evening. It was hot, which was not ideal... more on why later. The view itself also looked into the street, which also meant road noise and a view of homeless people across the street. In hindsight, we'd reserve inside seating. We had some of their speciality drinks: Mala-Rita and Nien Nunb. The latter was served in a fun glass and both had great flavor and balance. As for the food, they had some very authentic dishes. Their Shanghai Pork Soup dumplings were our favorite (better if it wasn't so hot outside) and we would have probably ordered more. Their Beef Chow Fun had a good balance of textures in a sweet and tangy hoisin sauce, but the beef was soft and chewy, which may be the cut they made. We also ordered the special fried rice because it is something my wife always orders as Chinese takeout. This had plenty of meat, but was lacking flavor that you get with good takeout fried rice. Since this is a Sichuan restaurant we were obligated to try their Chengdu Chili Chicken. I actually really like spicy and was looking forward to the Sichuan peppercorns that have that numbing sensation. The flavor was good with plenty of spice (too much for my wife), but I didn't think that they actually used the peppercorns. If I wasn't expecting the peppercorns and wasn't sitting in the heat, I would have been happy with the dish. Their service was friendly, but felt like they were still learning the menu and didn't have a lot in the way of recommendations beyond what they see people ordering. Looking around the restaurant, there were many ordering familiar Chinese takeout dishes (egg rolls, fried chicken, fried rice, etc). From what I can tell, I'd suggest branching out and avoiding these as this restaurant seems to specialize in dumplings and Sichuan dishes, but be prepared for spicy with the latter. Overall, we would come back again (maybe to try their Duck), but thought their food would be better in cold weather and as a group with their family style service. read more

The vibe, atmosphere and hip-hop playing in the background made me just love this place and it also helped that the food and service were also excellent! Jillian W did a great job of explaining how best to utilize the menu for our size group as all menu choices are meant to be shared. Our group consisted of 3 people but I do suggest if possible, to visit with a group of at least 4+ so that way you are able to try more items. We ordered the chicken dumplings, fried green beans, Sichuan deep fried chicken, honey pecan gulf prawns, and the seafood two-faced crispy noodles. Every single dish was excellent, but my top favorites were the honey gulf prawns and the fried green beans. I suggest you make reservations at least a month prior for the prime dining slots as it is hard to get in and just about every table was booked consistently throughout the night. read more

My friends and I finally got a dinner reservation here after trying to get one for a few days. I ordered the Sichuan Deep-Fried Tofu and the Sichuan Braised Eggplant (orders came with white rice). I had high expectations but I was underwhelmed. I normally order Sichuan food for the numbing effect, but I didn't experience that from anything I ordered. Both dishes were pretty bland and could've used more flavor. The eggplant was also cooked inconsistently so some pieces were harder to chew. It was my friend's birthday, so we received free pineapple sorbet (with a candle!) which was pretty good but a very small portion size. Service was decently fast and friendly, but I'm not sure I'd come here again. read more

Amazing food, the ambiance was so upscaley and nice. Very cozy lighting. I loved the wall embedded with Mahjong tiles. Nice interior design, overall. The waitress was so kind and friendly. She understood our dietary restrictions and appropriately suggested food and was checking constantly to make sure we were good too. Not so much options for desserts but the drinks and food definitely made up for it!! read more

We went on a Sunday afternoon for dim sum and had a 1 o'clock reservation. I would definitely recommend earlier reservations because things were running out even when we ordered. We got the last three orders of sticky rice and they had already sold out of egg tarts - my favorite thing! I was so sad. The pineapple buns are very photogenic/Instagramable, but too sweet for me in general. They're adorable so get it! The sesame balls were great. I always love those. My favorite dish was the sticky rice - followed by the soup dumplings. read more

This place is a must if you're visiting Austin! I did garage parking for $10 since and did a 2 min walk to get to the restaurant. We were immediately seated but for a Tuesday night, it was crazy packed but I understand why! Our serve was so kind and helped us picked what to order. All of the food came out quickly and were all so delicious! My favorite is definitely the soup dumplings and the beef chow fun! The interior was well decorated and the restroom is clean! I would highly recommend everyone to give this restaurant a try! read more

Stopped in during the week for dinner and was instantly seated at a table. There were a good amount of people dining here, so I knew the food must be pretty good. The service here was not as attentive as I had hoped. It took the waiting staff about 10-15 minutes to get us our waters and by then we already knew what we wanted to order. To my surprise we only saw the waiter twice throughout the night. That included putting our order in and flagging him down to get our check. We orders dumplings and green beans as a started and selected (3) entrees to share with the table. The food here was really good and really filling. This place would be a 5/5 if the service was better. read more

Everything here is delicious! I came here on a whim Saturday night and it was about a 45 minute wait. It's best to make reservations, or you can risk your chance at the bar or community table for seating. The hot and sour soup is very tasty and not too hot or too sour. There was just enough heat to make my taste buds go wild! The green beans were delicious! I'm not sure what sauce was used, but I need to know the secret, unless the chef will have to kill me afterwards. Soup dumplings were wrapped in a thicker wrapper than I'm used to, but it was still very tasty! The proper way to eat it here is to add some red wine vinegar in the "hole" and slurp it out. I felt awkward doing that so I poked a hole on the side and let it drain onto my soup spoon. I wanted to try a drink and take photo with the animal glasses, but I was ordering so much food, I didn't want to fill up on alcohol. read more

I was in town for work and was craving dims sum since it was a Sunday. This was the closest "Dim Sum" restaurant so I took a gamble and went here only to be disappointed by their dim sum selection. I ordered the salt n pepper shrimp and dan dan noodles which they advertised as having buckwheat noodles but seemed more like flat prepackaged udon noodles. It's a very nice restaurant, it's open, bright, clean and the service was ok but the food was definitely a disappointment. It's definitely Americanized Chinese food. If you're looking for REAL dim sum, look elsewhere. read more

The Crispy Sesame Beef was really good. The Duck Fried rice and Singapore Noodles were good but not a 5*. I did take out, but it looked like a better than average ambiance for dining in. Parking at the Lamar location for take out is super easy. It looked pretty easy for dine in as well. There's a bunch of stuff on the menu I want to try including the Beef Clay Pot curry, the pot stickers and pork dumplings, etc. Next time I will take a crew and dine in so we can try more items. read more

Y'all. I'm finally coming out of my Yelp hiatus and kicking things off with a good one: Wu Chow! I was gifted a coupon to Wu Chow from my sweet friends back home and unfortunately had to delay visiting due to the pandemic. Better late than never because it was bomb! For starters, the reservation system was super easy. They have both indoor/outdoor seating and we were comfortably spaced out from other dimsum goers on a Sunday morning. Having spent just under $50 (before tip), we ordered a surprisingly large amount of food and covered most of our usual go-to plates. It's not the typical (aka chaotic) dimsum cart experience but the quality and quantity of the food did not disappoint! To top everything off, service was quick, staff was friendly, and street parking was a piece of *taro* cake. We also loved their branding and aesthetics. I highly recommend Wu Chow if you're up for some fancier dimsum. We'll be back for their non-dimsum offerings someday, too! read more

Cool restaurant downtown with decent food. This place is always busy so I had to give it a try and see what the hype was about. The service was great. They operate as a family style restaurant so I would suggest going in groups so you can try various different things. Overall, the food was good but, I wasn't in love with it which is why the 4 stars. Just my personal preference though, since I am probably just used to more American Chinese food. My favorites were the pork dumplings and the Gong Bao Chicken! Both were delicious and if I come back, I would definitely try more dumplings. It said to allow 20 minutes to let the dumplings come for the table and it did not take that long. The tangerine peel beef had delicious flavors but was extremely tough and chewy. My assumption was it was supposed to be this way, because it was delicious in terms of flavor. It was extremely hard to eat and hurt my jaw, which was a letdown since it was good otherwise. Like I said, I have no clue if that's the texture it should have. The shrimp was good but, a little too spicy for my taste. Drinks were good. Ice cream was fine. We ordered the egg roll appetizer before everything and I thought they were too small and limited for the $10 price tag. Overall good but, probably not in a hurry to go back. If you like traditional Chinese food you'll probably love it. read more

Came here for lunch on a Sunday. Within the first hour of opening, the place was practically full. Like all places downtown, parking is not fun. Overall, some dishes were hits and some were misses. The sichuan dumplings and soup dumplings were very very good. I wish the cold dishes (spicy cucumber and sesame noodles) were colder(?). They were more like room temp/cool. I would definitely avoid the sugarcane shrimp they had very little flavor and just felt like a wad of shrimp to chew on. Service was good, nothing special. May come back at a later time and try some more steamed items in hopes that it is better. read more

I ordered the two faced crispy noodles with tofu. The vegetables were bland, but the noodles were salty. Eating both together still did not fully satisfy the "it" factor that I was looking for. Had the best experience at Wu Chow! I visited with girlfriends on a Friday night. Sat on the patio with heaters so it was cozy. The staff was wonderful! Our waiter even brought us champagne to toast because I'd mentioned I'm getting married. The soup dumplings are quite possibly the best I've ever had. I didn't get a photo of everything but the green beans are a must. I could eat them all in one sitting. The spicy wontons - also amazing. They come in this sauce that is just to die for. Use that sauce for/in the soup dumplings. Just do it. My friends recommended that and they know wtf is up. Also the shrimp... I can't even... I can't find the words. Great food, loved their dim sum menu. Their cilantro shrimp dumplings, shrimp ha gow, eggplant shrimp, and esp. crispy turnip cakes were really good. The service, however needs to improve in view of the fact that this is a fine dine restaurant. I don't know if we came on a busy weekend or it was a one off thing but we didn't know who our server was until the end and had to stop servers passing by a couple of times as no one bothered to actually attend us after our initial order. Also since we had to stop people to place orders we ordered everything at one go and told the person who took the order to not bring everything together... yet guess what happened. Dumplings simply don't taste good if you have to keep them waiting on the table for 15-20 mins when you work on all the dishes served all at once. So yes lovely food but a wasted potential to be a great restaurant. Missed our list of fav restaurants here in Austin, due to the lack of great service. read more

We came here on Friday night and joined the waitlist around 6:30. At 8:30, a spot opened up, which was held for us for 15 minutes. We were seated outside and ordered soup dumplings, beef chow fun, and Singapore noodles. The soup dumplings were definitely the best dish. I believe it was $12 for 5. The beef chow fun was second best, in our opinion, but nothing too special--I want to say it was $14? The Singapore noodles were a bit disappointing for being $19. They were also spicier than I expected. We ended up taking most of it home. In hindsight, the soup dumplings and beef chow fun would have been enough for the two of us! So maybe we have higher expectations living in San Francisco but it's always concerning when you walk into a Dim Sum restaurant and there aren't any Asians as part of the service staff. This review is for Wu Chow's DUM SUM menu! Compared to normal dim sum prices, Wu Chow is much more expensive than others. However, I believe you are paying extra for the quality. Wu Chow's dim sum menu is only served on Sundays from 11 AM-3 PM, last call for food at 2:45 PM. We ordered the Shanghai Pork Soup Dumplings, Steamed Chicken Dumplings, and the Tenderbelly Pork & Shrimp Shumai. Everything tasted great, but just like many other modern Asian restaurants in Austin, you're overpaying! WuChow is great for Dim Sum beginners, as it is serves the essentials Americans will not run away from ie: don't expect chicken feet on the menu. read more

First thing I liked is that they didn't make happy hour an awkward hush thing. They embraced it, printed special menus for it, and drew quite the crowd! The food was excellent - that soup was one of the best I've had. The Szechuan fried tofu was good but next time I'll try the vegetarian fried rice. I loved that they had so many vegetarian options for me to choose from. My husband loved his Szechuan chicken and his pork fried rice. The special cocktail was a gin mule!
