After having taken my 2012 Jeep Cherokee Laredo to 2 independent mechanics in my home town for issues with the starter motor not engaging the engine (it would start but wasn't getting a fuel signal to the engine periodically) and there were not codes indicating there was a problem. I was 200 miles from home when the car decided it wasn't going to start...I called Arthur, and in minutes after telling him the issue, he immediately diagnosed - it was the fuel pump relay (of which had already been recalled and the TIPM was replaced by the dealer in 2015). Altho I didn't make an appointment (please call first), when I telephoned Arthur, he graciously put my ailing car first in line when I pulled into Indio with a right front wheel that was rattling so bad I was afraid it was abut to fall off (I was traveling from Austin to Oregon - he must have detected the desperation in my voice). In very short order, he diagnosed the problem and gave me a parts and labor estimate. Within 30 minutes or so of me emailing him my car problem, he called to give me a quote (which was way lower than the national chain I first went to quoted me). I will forever be grateful to Arturo with Wrench Monkey in Indio. He was there when my Ford F150 transmission dumped at Chiraco Summit and he was the master mechanic that fixed it. The local Ford dealer was not to be found. Aamco was another 50 miles away. Arturo answered my call after hours and gave me an immediate plan to fix my truck. AAA, at $8 per mile, towed my truck to Arturo's fathers house in Indio. Wrench Monkey doesn't have a lot of overhead but Arturo was professional, responsive and reasonable. On our way back from Arizona, our car just died. Went onto Yelp to find a mechanic and Monkey Wrench 760 had all these great reviews. Not knowing the area and hoping not to get ripped off we decided to have the car towed there. Arthur is a great guy and really knows his stuff. We got a rental car from Enterprise and continued home. Arthur gave us a call the next day and said the car was ready. I picked it up the following day and it runs great. Long overdue review. I very foolishly and accidentally filled my (gas) tank up with diesel fuel 5 months ago while traveling in Indio. I was panicking because I had to be back in LA by the evening, and all the auto places I called were charging me AT LEAST $500 and my car would not be done until 5+ hours. I called this place based on Yelp reviews expecting a similar spiel. However, Arthur gave me detailed advice over the phone for free, that didn't even involve my using his (or any other auto place's) services. I appreciated how honest he was. Also, he was very patient he was with my complete cluelessness (T_T) when it came to cars and explained/re-explained things as many times as I needed. Still, I felt better having him empty out and refill my tank, which he did in ~1.5 hours and for 1/5 the price the other places were charging me. He even walked all the way down to the gas station to refill the tank for me, and let me use his wifi/table/chair so I could study while I waited for him to finish the job. My car had 0 issues while I drove back to LA (and none in the 5 months afterward :)). I highly recommend this place. P.S. And don't put diesel fuel in a non-diesel car. read more

An honest professional who was responsive when we were stranded before Christmas! On our 1400 mile trip for the holidays, car started to smoke about 50 miles from Indio around 7pm. While we were waiting for the wreaker to show, we researched repair shops on Yelp. The next day was a Saturday and the day before Christmas so we were not confident in finding a shop that could take a look at the minivan, let alone repair it. We saw all the great reviews for Arthur so we sent a message. Within five minutes he called to ask about the car and get pictures of the area with the expunged fluid. When the wreaker arrived, the driver thought it looked like transmission fluid leaked on the ground. We had the minivan towed to his place and thoughts of a new transmission was rolling through our heads! Arthur was able to exam the minivan in the morning and found that it needed a transmission flush which was the best case scenario! We were able to drive the rest of the way to southern Cali in time for the holidays. Then drove back home the 1400 miles without a problem! If you live in Indio or break down in the area, I emphatically recommend Arthur for servicing you car! He could have taken advantage of us, but he correctly diagnosed the problem without gouging us and got us back on the road quickly. I wish he lived near me! read more
