Recommended by hotel staff after asking for a restaurant easy walk from the hotel. Food, cocktails, and entertainment were very good!

Walked into Bar Mario in Red Hook like I was just "stopping in for one drink." Rookie mistake…read more This place feels like it's been here forever--in the best way. Cozy, old-school Italian vibes, staff speaking Italian like they're judging you lovingly, and Negronis that'll make you rethink every bad decision you've ever made at a bar. I ordered the lasagna because a man should test a kitchen on its fundamentals. Absolute home run. Rich, layered, comforting--felt like someone's nonna was in the back nodding in approval. No notes. No leftovers. Bar Mario isn't trying to be trendy. It's just confident, timeless, and quietly excellent. The kind of spot where you come hungry, leave happy, and start planning your next visit before you even hit the sidewalk.

I have now been to Bar Mario several times, and it is absolutely worth a 5-star review…read more First, the ambience is terrific. It's not a huge restaurant (so I would make a reservation): a few 2- and 4-seat high tops, maybe 6 or 7 tables, and a bar with about 10 seats. But the environment is warm and cozy, with low lighting and music loud enough to enjoy, soft enough to have conversations with your party, the bartender, or whoever else. The servers are all excellent. Very charming and friendly. They check in often, but not in an intrusive way. I've also seen the owner walking around, greeting customers, and talking with his staff. He's always around, and he's a friendly presence. There's such a great neighborhood vibe here - there are definitely some regulars here, and it helps create a homey atmosphere. The food here is outstanding. I have not had a bad dish here. The Caesar salad is actually made with several long stalks of romaine, so it stays crisp. The meatballs come with polenta around the plate, and it is fantastic. I've also had the hangover spaghetti (excellent) and the lasagna (amazing). Their calamari also has a few shrimp and (I think) some bay scallops, so that's a great addition. And their cocktails are outstanding - potent but flavorful. I don't get a chance to go to Red Hook much, but when I do, I definitely want to stop here. It's on the "main road" of Red Hook, and there are definitely some cute shops and coffee places around, and of course, there's Ikea not too far. This restaurant, though, deserves your business.

When we walked in, we got the warmest welcome from her. Her name is Debbie. I have a 10yrs old also and she immediately started having a conversation with her. When she sat us in the dinning room, she let us know there were 2 servers for the night with a 1 bus boy. She mentioned them by name and I loved that. We were attended to by Keith. He was such a gem. He recommended so really great choices for us. This is what we had. For drinks, my husband and my son had the Red Hook which they loved. I don't drink so I had the Captain Jack Mocktail. Appetizers- Seafood Tower and Rhode Island Calamari. OMG the calamari is a must try. It has a little kick but you will thank me later. I little heat never hurt nobody. Dinner- we all shared the Gala Apple Salad, Porter House, Linguini and Clams, Lundy's Potatoes, and Mac and Cheese. Dessert- The Butterscotch Sundae my daughter hogged, and the Lundy's Huckleberry Pie. Now let me tell you. I do not eat huckleberry pie, but that one, I could not believe how tasty. The crust was hard and sweet and the filling had the right flavor. Not too sweet or tart. All throughout dinner my husband and my son kept saying how great the food was. It was truly amazing and the service was great, with only 3 working and staying attentive to several tables. I would definitely come back. Maybe for a girls night next time.

The space is so amazing it feels like someone crossed a historic landmark with a movie set and said, "Yeah, make it bigger." The bar? HUGE. A beautiful behemoth. It's the kind of bar you walk up to and instantly feel like you should order something classy just because the bar itself demands respect. You don't sip here--you pose. Live music had the whole place vibing like it was Brooklyn's own little Mardi Gras. Menu? Straight-up banger after banger. I kept reading items like I was scanning a treasure map. Drinks? Too good. Dangerous-good. "I should slow down but I won't" good. Now the oysters... Listen. Freshest in the five boroughs. FRESHEST. Like they practically filled out a change-of-address form from the ocean to your plate. But the true heavyweight champion of this place? Chef Steve Mannino. A culinary force. A flavor wizard. A gastronomic gladiator. The man cooks like he's trying to win a title belt every night. If Brooklyn had a Mount Rushmore of chefs, he'd already be carved in granite, smiling with a shucker in his hand. Service was on point, hospitality turned up to 11, and the whole vibe made us feel like VIPs with zero business being VIPs. If you want a meal that slaps, sings, sparkles, and maybe even changes your mood for the week, Lundy Brothers is the move. Over-the-top amazing. Already planning my return like it's a holiday.

My friend ordered the butterfly field mocktail, which I highly recommend if you're not in the mood for alcohol, it was absolutely delicious. I ordered two of their signature cocktails: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (best way I can describe it is it's like a high end cologne in cocktail form, but in the best way possible? Very complex flavors) and the Queen of the Desert (cool refreshing cucumber followed by a spicy heat in the back of your throat, grew on me over time). Food was also quite good. I enjoyed the truffle popcorn and I still have no idea how they made those lemongrass chicken ginger dumplings so yummy (I normally don't even like chicken dumplings bc they're usually not as juicy as pork, but these didn't have that problem). They gave us a tiny sample of one of their house-made liquors at the end-- let me tell you, I'm not the biggest fan of just having liquor on its own but dang, that went down sooooo smoothly.

Place looks like a bar that got ideas. Dark wood, low lights, people actin like the burger is a life event. Drinks were strong, I'll say that. Had one that tasted like somethin my grandmother would respect, right before tellin me to slow down. Wedge salad was good. Cold, simple, did its job. Prawns fine. Pasta was solid. Burger is good. That's it. Not worth all the talk. I've had about the same standin over a grill in July, arguin with a man about his fence. Fries come lookin like saucers for no reason, but they were the best thing there. Loraine wouldn't get the French onion soup cause she "saw a picture." That's how decisions get made now. Pork chop had sweet mash and spicy greens. Didn't make much sense, but it worked. Food's good, drinks strong. I'll probly be back. Not up to me anyway.
