I ended up here around 10-11 am, so selection was small. We still enjoyed the donuts that we got, which included red velvet, Bavarian cream chocolate, powdered etc. They were good, not great. The Bavarian looked like it had the chocolate topped when it was still warm and it was pretty thin and runny. Perhaps an earlier day experience would've been better and had more selection. The parking area is small and busy, but doable. The prices are ok. The staff was nice. read more

I've driven past World's Fair Donuts more times than I can count, and my curiosity finally got the best of me. I was on my way home from a local farmer's market on a Saturday morning and decided to make a last-minute stop. The parking lot is very small, but luckily I found a spot to park while I ran inside for my sweet treats. Cash only, but there's an ATM inside or you can actually just Venmo them like I did! Everything looked and smelled delicious. I am a BIG sprinkle fan, so any donut covered in sprinkles is an absolute must for me. I ended up ordering four donuts: chocolate with sprinkles, gooey butter cake, blueberry crumble, and classic glaze. The blueberry crumble looked better than it tasted in my opinion, but it wasn't bad by any means. The chocolate sprinkle donut was perfectly covered in lots of yummy chocolate icing, but it probably could've used a few more sprinkles ;) The glaze is classic but I promise won't let you down... it practically melts in your mouth. I had never had a gooey butter cake donut until now, and this one was by far the best donut out of the four I purchased. It was so unique, and I think this is my new favorite way to eat gooey butter! While they aren't my favorite donuts I've found in St. Louis, they will definitely hit the spot the next time you're craving one. And I'll probably be back sometime soon for another gooey butter donut! PS - Apologies that the donuts in my pictures have bites out of them. I obviously couldn't wait to try them! read more

Always wanted to try this place....today it was open....so we tried it. Well....I'll say this: Go to Donut Drive Inn on Chippewa. Apple fritter: 1 star and was terrible. Dough is all gaumy and nasty. The taste was lousy. Glazed donut: 3 stars....These were ok and much better than the fritter....but not a top notch donut by any means. Conclusion: Go to Donut Drive Inn instead. I was craving a Boston Creme donut and decided to give World's Fair Donuts a go...so I arrive, it's super easy access right off highway 44 and S Vandeventer, the parking lot is teeny but business is fast so parking turnover is quick. I went inside and was greeted immediately by the staff (husband and wife, both super nice!), asked what I was looking for and recommended a few, I ended up with my Boston crèmes and a Red Velvet Cake Special donut (I totally didn't need it, but it was magnificent!). Pricing is decent, they only accept cash/Venmo. Please give them a try, the donuts are very good with lots of choices, the owners genuinely nice and this small business is one of many making St. Louis proud! I've been wanting to check out this cute little place that we always drive past. It's located in the middle of a busy intersection, but wasn't crowded @8am... The cake donuts were solid. A little doughier than other cake donuts. Not as sweet as some places have and the variety wasn't as large on this morning. The parking is slim for this area, but no issues because there wasn't a line. Overall good, but not the best in STL. It is cash only, but signs say you can also use Venmo or cash app. read more

I admit it, I've never been here before it closed the first time. We came late on Labor Day, so they were down to slim Pickens. It was the single best glazed donut I've ever had. Ever. Lightly crispy with a doughy center. I guarantee these are orgasmic when they are hot and fresh. No joke. It makes total sense that when we got the last two glaze the guy behind us just left... I felt bad but then when I had it I didn't feel so bad anymore. Wear a mask or you won't get in. Line is outside and socially distanced. Cash only. Yes there is an ATM inside. Really wish Up Late had their own Yelp page. This review is only for UpLate, the late night food shop that operates out of worlds fair donuts. I've been there a number of times and at this point have tried just about everything on the menu. All of it slaps. The egg sandwich and tacos really stand out. The egg sandwich: The bacon, egg and cheese with all their toppings is one of the best egg sandwiches I've ever had. I'm originally from the east coast so Kelly on my egg sandwich was not something I've heard of before or wanted. Not even knowing this was something to look for the first time I went, I bit into this glorious sandwich and was shocked by the savory sweet mix. Perplexed, I investigated my sandwich and announced, "grape jelly!!!" Like it was the next coming of the messiah. Apparently this is normal in the south?! On top of the jelly is their special sauce, the eggs perfectly cooked and bread beautifully toasted. I want to wake up every morning and have this sandwich and any time I am out late I order this thing. Sometimes I order an extra to keep in the fridge and heat in my air fryer the next day. Seriously, stop reading this already too long review and go get yourself one. Tacos: Perfect traditional street tacos. Simple, delicious meat, corn tortilla and a bright sauce. Reminds me of the tacos I loved getting from the stands in mexico. For those not familiar- street tacos are small. If you're hungry you def want 2 or 3. Order extra, they keep well! Other: You can get a perfect yeast raised glazed donut, milk, beer- classic stuff. I don't love Worlds Fair Donuts since the change of ownership, but these perfectly plain and simple donuts just hit right after a night out. Take it up a notch and heat that baby up if you have the self control to get it home. Cons: The ordering system is online only. A few places do this and while I understand the benefit to the kitchen, it drives me nuts. It just adds a layer of complication at the end of the night that I hate dealing with. We also always have to re-enter our cc/billing info since making an account never seems to work- but maybe that's on us? That also means they don't accept cash. None of this is enough to make me not go there, but be warned. You have to order online, and it's best you make that order before you head there so aren't sitting in your car for the 10min that feels like an eternity when waiting for delicious, late night eats! read more

This review is for UP LATE, which operates a late night breakfast sandwich window out of the Donut shop. This means you can also add a donut to your order when available! The fact is, if you are up late and hungry, there aren't many options any more. But even if there were tons of options I'd still highly recommend Up Late. Simple menu - bacon egg and cheese sandwich, sausage egg and cheese and plain grilled cheese. They also offer some tacos. I had the bacon egg and cheese and it was solid. Loved the sweetness from the sauce. 100% hit the spot and I would 100% come back. Hummm....Soo I've been here many times over the years and since ownership has changed. Always has been pretty good donuts but after this recent visit, I'm not sure if I'd stop to get donuts. The service and counter staff were awesome! Butttt, dang the donuts were borderline just ok to gosh I don't think I'll finish. Not finishing a donut is well kinda not good at all!!! I mean it's a donut! Ok, so I'm assuming it was a bad day, the glaze on ALL the glazed donuts was super thin, matte, and what looked like it was poured on while in a foam consistency. I finally had a chance to try these donuts and they were delicious! A small quaint little place that had a limited selection of donuts, but usually that is good because they can focus on having a good donut instead of trying to do tons of varieties poorly. I always go for a glazed yeast raised because if they can't do this right I won't try anything else, but the fat cinnamon donuts were calling my name! And to round it out, I tried a buttermilk cake donut. All of them were great and for $2 for 3 donuts I will definitely be back! I was mesmerized by the old school cash register that still worked! It probably was as old as the world's fair! The older lady working there I felt bad for. She definitely needed to be retired and enjoying her life instead of on her feet trying to bag and box donuts, poor thing! I got donuts here on a Wednesday for work. I planned on getting a dozen which I did but some of the donuts look kind of sad. It looks like the icing was put on them and they were way too hot so a lot of the frosting was melting off and not even nice lady put on top of the donuts. Some of the donuts were extra dry because of this. Not sure if it's because of the time of the week that it was, or if they have change the style of how they make everything, but I'd rather have my icing on top of it, then melting off. read more

The donuts were just not the same as I remembered. I came by to grab a dozen donuts for our kids' daycare teachers, and came here especially because I knew they had vegan donuts. (One of the teachers is vegan.) I ordered a dozen assorted donuts, but also ordered some on the side for my spouse and I. We always get apple fritters when we visit a donut spot, so that's what I got, plus a little more :P. Two apple fritters, a chocolate custard filled, and a cream cheese filled donut. I came home super excited about my donuts, but honestly none of them I particularly liked. They honestly just all tasted bland. There were apples in the apple fritters, but there wasn't enough glaze. There was basically a small stripe of sugar glaze on top of the apple fritter, and the dough was just okay. The front door requires all customers to wear masks. AWESOME! They are also limiting capacity to 2 customers at a time since the storefront is tiny. AWESOME! They are cash only BUT they now accept Venmo. They have a Venmo barcode at the register to make it easy to use. My most recent trip had 2 employees working. One may was bagging up customer orders and the older man was packing up orders for a local event. This older man was wearing his mask on his chin. He moved it up at one point, but when he needed to talk to the other employee, he took his mask down. The opposite of what you are supposed to do and not what I wanted to see. Regular donuts are $1. Special donuts are about 10 cents more. Very very inexpensive place to get donuts and coffee or milk. We ordered old fashioned, blueberry old fashioned, jelly filled, and an apple fritter. The old fashioned was meh. The apple fritter was also less than wonderful. Didn't seem to have any flavor, maybe a slight cinnamon, but definitely not apple. read more

It's nostalgic...seems like everything from the display case to cash register is an orignal from the 60's. The elderly owners still run the place like a well oiled machine. Can you say "Hole in the wall"? Yea it's old and dingy with grandma Moses getting your donuts but I just love this place. The donuts are cheap and yet they're very tasty. Finally made it to this newly reopened St. Louis landmark. We stopped as we made our way to Soulard Market and each got a donut. The Red Velvet and Blueberry cake donuts and the chocolate iced Long John were all fantastic!!!! The cake donuts are dense and flavorful while the Long John almost melts in your mouth. Donuts from yesteryear. My thanks to Jason Bockman, who was there, for not only saving this gem but also for preserving the traditional recipes. A St. Louis tradition when I first moved to Tower grove this was a Sunday staple on my walks. It's good old fashion donuts with good people who had been doing this for decades.
