I just recently tried their seasonal chefs special Yam one and OMG taste just like my grandmothers version. The food here is great. The empanadas are well seasoned, have lots of flavor, and are pretty big in size. However, the price for them is becoming extremely expensive. At your local Latino store you can get this same empanadas for $2 each. But at world of empanadas you're looking at $5 for a singular empanada. I happened upon this spot on Google maps while searching for a quick bite before our Warner Bros. Tour. The cashier asked if it was our first time and welcomed us. We had the ham & cheese, beef, chicken, and the chile con carne and a dulce de leche for dessert. All of them were delicious, fresh, flaky, flavorful and the best part? Baked! They were a perfect meal to keep us full for our tours. The dulce de leche was amazing, but a little on the rich side- and that's only bc that's exactly what dulce de leche is. The empanadas are filled with a generous amount of filling and are seasoned to perfection. They were so good- we ended up back there for lunch the next day while getting our car serviced. I loved the ham and cheese so much, I ordered it again & I tried the biscuits and gravy for something new. My husband had the beef again- his fav- and the soy chorizo. We aren't vegan but the soy chorizo was so good. We also tried the mixed berry as our sweet option. We liked that it wasn't as rich as the dulce de leche. They are $3.50 each- but you get what you pay for. The ingredients are fresh, they taste amazing, and the flavors are interesting and unique. You can't go wrong stopping by this joint. First of all, if you don't give a hoot about service or getting your order "just right" then the food is delicious. No complaints there. My contractor came to give an estimate on repairs and painting at my property and he wanted to stop and grab some empanadas for his family for dinner. I saw they have vegan options so I decided to order some empanadas also and I made a point of saying TWICE to please put my empanadas in a separate bag because I said to the older man, "we are paying together but we need the orders separated and I would like my vegan items in their own bag". The older man is apparently very hard of hearing (this is not a joke) and kept asking my contractor to repeat himself four times during the order and kept getting it wrong. Finally, he sorted out the items desired. When we drove off and stopped to say goodbye we both realized all the empanadas were in one box and we had to sit and sort them out. This was a waste of time. We had to use a chart they tape on the box to visually determine what we were giving to each other. This was totally avoidable and my contractor's time is very precious and I felt this waste of time could have been avoided. If you are vegetarian or vegan like me, keep in mind they don't worry about cross-contamination here and I suggest if you are actually a strict vegan or vegetarian you do not eat here at all they co-mingle the meat and vegan items in the same box which means they don't give a hoot about cross-contamination one bit. It held up well being taken from the restaurant and then being served throughout the filming of our shoot. Tasty and filling. I hope to have time to stop by and eat it when it is fresh. Ive eaten here several times in the last year and nearly always go for the combo soup, empanada and drink. Sadly, since covid19 they reduced their menu by more than half the items. My favorite was their biscuit and gravy empanada but they got rid of it. I dont know how they chose which empanadas to delete but I havent gone back since this one was discontinued. Ive given this review 4 stars because their tortilla soup is extremly salty, almost unbearable. The empanadas are expensive when purchasing them alone. However the food quality is A+. Great Empanadas! I was actually headed to Porto's to find breakfast and some goodies to take to work and drove past the green World Empanada logo car in the front of their shop. Advertising does pay! I quickly Yelped and made an abrupt safe u-turn and stopped on in. Found out if you checked in on Yelp you get $2 off. I loved the Empanadas here. The man behind the counter helped me choose (I think he was the owner), and I ended up getting 6. The crust on their empanadas were flakey, fluffy and tasty while the fillings were delicious! My favorites were the cream corn, breakfast and chile con carne. It was a perfect stop to pick up some empanadas. My only gripe was the empanadas weren't cheap: $2.75 for one, $16.99 for a half doz and over $20 something for a baker's dozen. I was craving empanadas for lunch and found this place in Burbank. Parking was easy to find since there was a lot of street parking. This is a cute cafe with some outdoor seating and indoor seating. I ordered the Santa Fe and Spicy Potato & Cheese Empanadas for $2.75 each. They were hot and fresh. They also came with sauces, including chimichurri. Everything is homemade with no preservatives or artificial flavors. The empanadas were big. The pastry was flaky and fresh. They filled them generously with meat and cheese. I loved the flavors. Yay! I can finally check this off my bookmark list~~ LOVE empanadas so I was excited when my friend told me about this place. We came around 1pm on a Saturday and luckily it wasn't busy-since we would've had no seats. It's basically a market (liquor store type) with a restaurant on the side, and the only seats are window seats (5 or 6 tops). We had pre-ordered to make sure the ones we wanted were ready to go, and we sat down and enjoyed our wide variety: chicken, sante fe chicken, beef, chile con carne, potatoes, and spinach. It's not too cheap, but for the sizes, they're well worth it. I'm used to eating homemade ones where I can eat at least 7-8, but I could only eat 3 of these, and saved the rest for later. Even when cold, they were delicious. More than anything, everyone was sooo friendly and the owner kept asking us if we needed anything else (keep in mind it's not a waiter-service place) and whether we were enjoying the food. He also told us they were moving to the Magnolia location-so if this location is more convenient for you, make sure you check it out ASAP!! read more

So I can't say I'm some empanada aficionado, but I think little flakey crusted packages of pure yum is pretty easily identified and you can find a wide selection of sweet and savory ones in this quaint little eatery on Magnolia Blvd . So my pharmacy moved and while picking up my prescription I passed by this place. The welcoming colors and decor grabbed my attention and the scrumptious aromas forced me to walk in the doors. Wow this place is cute! There is a large communal table, huge blackboard with menu items, and a glass display filled with sweet and savory options galore. Given I did come at 5 o'clock, the case was a little light, but still plenty to choose from. The pharmacy staff next store recommended their favorites, so I chose two of their favorites... Ham and cheese, and the spinach and cheese. The guy at the register was very nice. He helped guide me through the three salsa options, mild, medium and hot that are by the condiment table. My favorite was the mild. (I believe he said it was chimmichurri (?)) I couldn't even wait to get home and sneaked a few bites of each in the car. The cheese was melty and the crust was a flakey pocket of heaven. Both were amazing. I saw the sweet ones and now I want to go back. So, it doesn't look like I'll be able to just pick up meds next door anymore without stopping here for a warm pocket of sunshine. Check in to YELP and save on a dozen. World of Empanadas is a small, cute cafe with four vegan options and one baked good. We tried all the vegan items. All the empanadas are $3 each. There's also a fresh salsa bar. I loved the spicy verde salsa; the mild rojo tasted fresh, but had a bit too much acidity. I didn't try the chimicurri which looked too liquid. Get the quinoa-lentil empanada. This one is savory, fresh and just plain great. The mushroom-cashew cheese empanada looked like it would be great, but it was simply passable, with a downbeat flavor. The soyrizo empanada was fine, but nothing special. The pinto bean empanada doesn't hit the mark. It's dry, starchy and bland. Don't get it. Lastly, the vegan morning glory muffin ($3.50) was not too sweet but nicely moist. That said, it has carrots and raisins in it, which aren't my two favorite ingredients in a dessert. Seating is limited and people tend to cluster upfront, making things feel cramped. All that said, I look forward to returning for the quinoa-lentil empanada and hopefully some new flavor. The first thing to note about these empanadas, is their crust. It's not the classic stiff hardier crumbly shell, but rather a slightly chewy, puff pastry kind (it felt almost a little too soft and undercooked for some of them). I prefer the former, but ultimately the filling is what's most important to me. With a quick Google fact check (to risk not being ignorant XD) it seems like I prefer the Columbian & Venezuelan crust that incorporates corn and less wheat flour, whereas the Argentinian's way cuts their wheat dough with fat (like World Empanadas does), creating more of a puff pastry texture. Vegan review: World empanadas has plenty of vegan options, and that's what encouraged me to try them out. They have other items on their menu too, like salads and soups, but I since it was my first time here, I played it safe and got a dozen empanadas for $31.95 (before tax). $2.95 for individual empanadas or check out their combos for some savings. I also picked up the Santa Fe Chicken (3.5/5), the Chile con Carne (3/5), and the (new?) Pulled Pork (4/5) for my family, and they all liked them, but also preferred the "classic"or stiffer crust and not a fan of the mushier texture of the Chile con Carne. I ate: (Vegan items) Soyrizo - 4/5 The stuffing tasted like exactly how I'd imagine it to be: umami, salty, and spiced. The soyrizo they used is the good kind that doesn't have a bitter or funky aftertaste. If you like the Trader Joe's ones like I do, you'll agree. It's made with some potato hash, onions, and a few other spices - very well seasoned and not overly salty. All of the sauces paired well with it, especially the fresh chili and tomatoes, cutting through the saltiness of soyrizo. Quinoa & Lentils - 4/5 While this isn't as spiced, it's still well seasoned. It tastes like a tomato-based stew, with it's heartiness coming from the lentils and quinoa. The lentils and quinoa were cooked perfectly and I could taste every texural component of the filling. They must have used celery salt as it reminded me very much of a chicken noodle soup aftertaste. Chimichurri paired well with this. Mushroom & Cashew Cheeze (New item) 3.5/5 The stuffing had a lemony aftertaste and was a bit too pureed for my liking. I couldn't taste the fermentation of anything resembling cheese, but I love mushrooms, so it was still a decent flavor overall. I liked the Salsa Verde with it the best. Mixed Berries - 3.5/5 I'm not a huge sweet tooth, but thought I should try their only vegan dessert empanada just to get full range judgement. Because their crust is more delicate and soft, it's versatile in savory and sweet fillings in my opinion. The filling is self explanatory, and was a nice balance of sweet and tarte, but was a bit one dimensional. Maybe a vegan dessert cheese layered inside would have enhanced it. Note: I liked that they plead the outer brim a different style and incorporate different shapes to differentiate the fillings. But why do they look like they were baked at different times length/tempurature? (The color on the pulled pork looked the best in my opinion) The chimichurri sauce is too tarte/ vinegary and liquidy for my taste. While the verde is the spiciest one of the three, all three have a kick to them; so be aware if you can't handle heat spice. My dad complained saying it should be labeled mild, medium, spicy instead, so I thought I'd mention it haha Lots of street parking on the small residential streets perpendicular to Magnolia as well as prime parking at the front of the store (although limited, obviously) I would come back, just because of the variety in vegan options, easy parking, decent food, and friendly/ helpful staff. However, the crust preference and the lack luster chimichurri sauce weighs a bit heavily in my opinion of the dish. Plus the size varies, yet it's all priced the same. I'd rate the place a weak 4 just for the food... But because I'm vegan and these are the most varied and well thought - out vegan fillings I've yet to try from anywhere else, I'll stick with the 4 star rating for convenience, accessibility, and customer service. These are some of the best empanadas around. Its also nice that they have several vegetarian and vegan options as well. I liked the spinach and cheese and well as the soyrizo. I will have to say that they got the name of their business wrong, because it really should be "World's Best Empanadas". These things are light, flaky, not at all greasy and they're stuffed with excellent fillings. So far I've had: Ham & Cheese, Spinach & Cheese, Pinto Beans & Rice, Chili Con Carne, and the Breakfast Empanada (eggs, bacon, sausage, potato, cheese). All of them are delicious. They are little pocket sandwiches of perfection. Get the combo meal (two empanadas, one side and a drink). It's a great deal and a good taste of what they do. Without Yelp, the internet, or social media...well, I don't remember how any of us found these places, especially in LA when we drive everywhere and don't take a casual stroll around the neighborhood. For years, when World Empanadas was at their old location on Victory, I would drive by and see their sign painted on the wall and think to myself, I need to try that one day. Years later, I finally did. At the tail end of Burbank's Magnolia Park, you will find happiness nestled in baked dough. I can't go on a limb and say every flavor or version of empanada they serve is good, but what I can say is that there's a flavor for every taste, from the meatiest of carnivores to the vegan...est of vegans. The best option available is their combo. It comes with two empanadas, a side (soup or salad), and a drink all for around 10 bucks. Choose wisely as you have something like 2 dozen options at any given time. All of their crusts are the same, so it ultimately boils down to what filling you get. You could stick to some classics like their ham and cheese or their spinach and cheese. Hot pockets be damned. There's also variations on chicken or beef. The santa fe has very classic, southwest flavors. Spicy chicken, beans, chiles, corn and it goes well with a spoonful of their chicken tortilla soup. I used to come in for lunch a lot, but their breakfast options is worth getting up early for. There's three really great breakfast items to get. My favorite empanada has become their breakfast empanada. Bacon, scrambled eggs, and cheese baked in dough to perfection. They also have a sausage and gravy option, reminiscent of biscuits and gravy. It's not as good as the straight up breakfast empanada, but if you want a good way to start off the day, have one of each. If you're not an early riser, these are available all day. They also serve a breakfast burrito, but only until noon. It might be my favorite breakfast burrito in Burbank now (sorry Corner Cottage). Bacon, sausage, eggs, cheese, and potatoes. It's all melted and blended together in a warm tortilla. It goes well with their trio of salsas. They have a spicy green salsa that goes great on everything. A red salsa that's mild and is like a blended version of a pico de gallo. Lastly, there's a chimichurri which is a tangy addition to anything you put it on. The vinegar and garlic really bite down on some of their spicier options and just makes for a more flavorful bite. A breakfast burrito or the combo is a pretty decent meal, but if you've got room for one more empanada get a dessert option. I've only tried the banana nutella so far and while it's no different than any other version of banana nutella crepe, waffle, pancake...(insert carb device)...it's a great way to end your meal. read more

My friend brought me out to her favorite empanada spot - World Empanadas, where I saw my first sign flipper on the corner. Sixteen different daily empanadas filled their board and the counter, each wrapped in a different shape to signify the filling within. $2.95 each, or $31.95 per dozen. A combo meal consisting of 2 empanadas, 1 8 oz soup or salad, and 1 drink for $8.25 gives you an idea of the size of their empanadas. They aren't big. More like snack sized. We ended up sharing 3 of them between the two of us. The beef (ground beef simmered with potatoes, green olives, bell peppers, onions, garlic, lemon and spices) was okay, but I could have done without it. I much preferred the spinach & cheese (sauteed spinach simmered with garlic, lemon juice tossed with a parmesan cheese sauce and topped with jack and cheddar cheese), and the Nutella & banana was pretty good as well. The pastry was nice and thin, and the pockets decently filled. Salsas were located on the side for self-service, though they are also listed on the menu board for take-away in 8 oz portions for $2.25. I was around in the area and I wanted to try something new. There are alot of new places I've never tried before in burbank, but most of them brunch places and apparently they all had +1 hr waits... Luckily when we got here it was before the lunch rush and we didn't need to wait that long. We ended up getting the beef, Carne con chili, cheese and spinach, and the quinoa and lentils. The best on was the cheese and spinach followed by the Carne one. Normally I don't like vegan items, but the quinoa and lentils was really really flavorful and delicious. They also have chimichurri sauce for you, which you need to try with the empanadas. I think everything is a hit at this place, and the fact that each one costs less than three bucks, you can try them all and still have money in the bank. They also don't have alot of seats inside or out. They don't have a dedicated parking lot, so street parking is your only choice. read more
