I finally had the pleasure of trying World of Empanadas and I'm honestly so impressed. First of all, their horchata... SO good. Like genuinely one of the best horchata I've ever had, it was super creamy and flavorful but not overly sweet. I tried one of their desserts being their banana and Nutella empanada along with other savory empanadas. Everything was amazing. The Nutella + banana one was definitely a standout for me because they did not hold back at all. It was packed with chocolate and banana in every bite, which I loved because I'm a huge chocolate person. It didn't feel skimpy or dry at all, just super rich and satisfying! For the savory options, I tried the chile con carne, Santa Fe chicken, the breakfast, and the beef & potato. Every single one was delicious, seriously you cannot go wrong with any of them. BUT my favorite was for sure the Santa Fe chicken!! It had so much flavor and tasted really well-seasoned. You can tell everything is made with care. Their green chimichurri needs its own praise. I've tried a fair amount of chimichurris from different restaurants and grocery stores, but this one!!! This one is done perfectly. I can't describe the flavor to you, you just have to try it haha. It goes so well with any of the empanadas! Also, the empanadas came out HOT. Like actually steaming when I opened them, which made them that more enjoyable. Everything tasted really fresh. On top of that, the service was so sweet. The girls working there were really kind and welcoming, which just made the whole experience even better. Definitely coming back because I'm already craving that horchata and Nutella banana empanada again!! Thank you so much for having me :)

It's basically a takeout place for empanadas, with only three outdoor tables. The waiting time could be long at rush hours, each empanada costs about $5, and discounted prices if you buy half a dozen or a dozen. I've tried one of their most popular flavors, the Beef Empanada with seasoned ground beef, green olives, potatoes, bell peppers, and spices, and it was quite salty.

We haven't been here for years but it still hit the spot! Can't go wrong starting with this on a Monday.

One of my favorite places to stop for an affordable bite. I'll be honest, I haven't had a bad flavor yet but a few of my favorites are the creamy corn, chili con carne, pepperoni, and the mushroom. The empanadas are made to order (you can also take and bake!)

Amazing empanadas quit a selection from meats to vegans I had Beef. Chili con carne and Nutella with bananas . You got to watch the last one you will bit in to a Nutella oozing out of the shell. The Chili con carne had just the right amount of spice. The restaurant is ultra clean and the service was spot on. You can eat outside or pick up to go

Nah fam they might actually be the goat. This place actually makes better pasta than most Italian restaurants. Like it's actually al dente. Wild. The burrito is good too. Where this place shines is the empanadas. The perfect mix of crispy but soft. The stuff is reasonable, the flavors are all there. In the corner of your empanada, they actually press on the initials for what type it is so it's easy to tell later on. You've gotta clean the outdoor seating yourself, like brush off peopes crumbs and the like, but that's cool.

It should be called American Hot Pockets. World of Empanadas should get into the comedy business. Nothing about this place resonates with the namsake. Trying to capitalize off "Empanada Culture" while ignoring how the Latin community operates is a disgrace. Salsa comes with Empanadas. It's an unwritten golden rule. You'd know that I'd this company was truly in touch withr the culture. Get a load of the little container I paid $3.50 for! Two or three little servings of sauce lol what a joke. Empanadas that cost almost $6 bucks! If these people knew anything about the true culture of empanadas they know they should be affordable and that salsa ALWAYS come with it free. The locals are too desensitized to corporate greed to realize this is such a farce.

I saw on a Yelp friend review this place and I wanted to try it. The place is small and I only saw the windows to order and pick up. So I ordered on line and when I got there my order was ready. I really recommend them. They have different flavors, they even have some sweet ones. I ordered 3 of mushrooms and two of the Garbanzo ones. I also ordered some pepperoni and some cheese. They were so warm, flaky, tasty, and delicious. The mushrooms flavor had enough stuffing and the crust very soft and flaky. Any flavor you get they are pretty good. I am just sad that I am so far away from them I don't get to taste them often. I highly recommend this place. They had couple of tables at the street to eat buy mainly this place is to pick up.

We ordered a dozen and chose Beef, chicken pot pie, Santa Fe chicken and Chile Con Carne. Loved how it came with the sauces. I'm not a spicy person at all and the Santa Fe chicken was my favorite. Took about 10 minutes and we waited in the tables in front. I didn't realized there was an inside with tables until someone walked in. We came home and everyone practically devoured it. Only 2 left in the box!

6 pack empanadas
Marie Q.

Delish empanadas. I got the 6 pack. Beef, spicy potato, biscuits and gravy, pizza flavors. The best one was the potato one. Orders are made at the window and they take a few minutes to prepare fresh. The seating is on the sidewalk so it's great for a quick snack or to just take home.

When we came in, it was moderately busy, but we got our order in quickly. There is parking out front on the street that's plentiful...not sure if they have a parking lot or not nearby. This place is interesting because it does Mexican faves like tacos and burritos and some Peruvian classics like lomo saltado. When we saw that was on the menu, we had to get it. They give a generous portion and the flavor is great. The meat was tender and the sauces take everything to the next level. I am a sucker for a good lomo saltado, and they delivered! We'll be back! Unfortunately, I ordered through the kiosk in person and realized after paying that the discount only applies when ordering online through their link. I'm glad I only ordered one Vampire taco at the time. I had the vampire taco with saltado, and ended up order a few other tacos to try later on the plane. Overall, the portions were generous, especially the amount of steak and onions in the saltado. I really liked the handmade tortillas, and the green sauce was delicious. The red sauce, on the other hand, tasted a little too sour for my liking. My main feedback is that the food was a bit saltier than I prefer, both the saltado and some of the tacos. I think pairing the saltado with rice next time might help balance out the flavors. The restaurant itself is spacious with plenty of seating, and the service was fast and easy. Overall, I had a good experience, even though the food was saltier than my liking, I'd be open to coming back and trying some of their other menu items next time.

The tuna & uni tostada was the standout. The tuna had the perfect balance of acidity, and the uni on top added just the right amount of richness. The octopus was so tender with no chewiness, it was cooked perfectly. We also tried the aguachile, which was really good, but the tuna dishes stood out to me so much more. Although the presentation of the dishes was beautiful, the overall flavor and taste didn't quite live up to the hype for us. We arrived around 4 PM on a Saturday and waited outside for around 45 minutes to place the order and give a tip. The employee at the counter gives you a number and bring the food to wherever you're seated. There are indoor and outdoor tables, but finding an open spot can be challenging, especially on weekends. Parking: There is a small parking lot attached to the food hall, but it fills up quickly. Free street parking is available, but finding a spot might be challenging. Atmosphere: Very casual for a Michelin-starred restaurant. The food hall has a variety of different styles of tables and chairs, many are old and a bit worn out. There are tons of people walking around and it's incredibly crowded during the weekend. Food: We spent around $170 for three people, including six oysters, ceviche, fish tacos, a whole grilled sea bass, and two uni dishes. The presentation was beautiful and definitely picture-worthy. The seafood tasted fresh, but the flavors weren't particularly memorable nor stood out to me, especially since LA has plenty of amazing seafood restaurants. The prices weren't unreasonably high for the amount of food that you're given. Overall, Holbox is worth trying if you're curious about a casual Michelin-starred seafood restaurant. If you're around the area visiting the USC campus or museums, Holbox would be a great stop for a Yucatan-style seafood meal. A solid 4 stars for me!

We loved everything we got and loved the garlic sauce they offered us. And for some reason it kept reminding me of one of those spots people go to in movies and shows. And of course, as soon as we saw the name, we immediately started singing La Bamba . That was literally what made the place catch our attention. My girlfriend is always quick to pull up Yelp before we commit to somewhere new, so she checked the reviews, saw they weren't too bad, and noticed they served Caribbean food. We turned around and decided, why not? The restaurant itself was a nice little spot. It wasn't overly crowded, but there were enough people there that it still had some energy. Our first impression, though, almost made this review never happen. When we walked in, we stood near the front trying to figure out whether someone was going to seat us or if we were supposed to seat ourselves. There was a woman working at the register who didn't acknowledge us, even when we tried getting her attention. It came across as pretty rude in the moment, and we genuinely considered just walking back out. Eventually, we decided to seat ourselves. That's when David, our waiter, came over and thankfully the service got much better from there. He was attentive, cool with us, and overall gave us a much better impression of the service than how things started. First came the chips and salsa. The chips were a little too hard for our preference, and the salsa itself was pretty bland. We originally wanted to try the ceviche as an appetizer, but after seeing that the price was getting pretty close to entrée territory, we decided to save that money and go straight for our meals. I ordered the La Bamba chimichanga with carne asada. I don't normally like beans inside my burritos, so I substituted double rice, along with cheese and sour cream, with guacamole and pico de gallo on the side. My girlfriend went for the Cuban sandwich, which she was really excited about because she had been craving one. Our food came out surprisingly fast probably within about 10 minutes. My chimichanga was... okay. That's probably the best way I can describe it. It had some flavor, it filled me up, and there wasn't anything specifically terrible about it. It just didn't give me anything that made me think, "I need to come back for this." At around $18, I also would've liked the plate to include some rice and beans on the side. My girlfriend wasn't too impressed with her Cuban sandwich either. She found it pretty dry and thought there was way too much meat compared with the thinner, juicier Cuban sandwiches she's used to having. But somehow, the thing we weren't expecting to care that much about ended up stealing the show: THE FRIES. I don't know exactly what seasoning they're using, but those fries were really good. And the garlic sauce they served with them was even better. We sat there trying to figure out what was in this sauce until one of the chefs happened to walk by. We finally asked him, and after all our investigating, it turned out to basically be garlic, mayo and ketchup. Simple? Absolutely. Did it work? 100%. That combination with those seasoned fries was probably our favorite food of the night. For drinks, I ordered my usual Blue Moon on draft. It was decent, although I've definitely had better. My girlfriend's fruity mocktail was actually the better drink between the two. It was refreshing, a good size, and had this sweet taste with a slightly bitter finish that we both liked. After everything, our bill came to about $73 with tax and tip. That's ultimately where the value started falling short for us. For what we ordered and the quality of the entrées, we both walked away feeling like we expected a little more for the money. That being said, this wasn't some horrible dinner. David was great with us, we liked the casual atmosphere, those fries and that garlic sauce definitely deserve their credit, and my girlfriend and I still had a good time together which is what brought us out in the first place. But if I'm judging La Bamba strictly on the food and experience we had that night, I can't say I'd personally recommend it based on this visit alone. Would I completely write it off? No. There are enough other things on that menu that I'd consider coming back, ordering something completely different, and seeing if round two changes my opinion. For this first visit, 3.5/5 feels fair.

The inside of the restaurant looks awesome, very homey and welcoming. As far as the service goes, the food came out pretty fast, so no complaints there. My mom ordered the Ropa Vieja, and I got the breaded chicken. Now, the breaded chicken itself was amazing! Nice and crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and just really good overall. The rice was also amazing. Unfortunately, this is where the stars started going down for me. Both my mom's and my beans did not taste good at all. They had this weird taste, almost like they were rotten or had gone bad. We asked for new beans, hoping maybe it was just that batch, but somehow the second ones tasted even worse. The fried plantains were also disappointing. They were very dry and had almost no flavor. I was expecting a lot more from them. As for my mom's Ropa Vieja, she said it was just okay. It wasn't bad, but she definitely wasn't blown away by it. I really wanted to like the food here because everything else was great. The staff, the atmosphere, the service, and especially the breaded chicken were all fantastic. So I'm honestly torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars out of 5. If the majority of the food had been good, I would've had no problem giving it 4 stars. But when almost half of what we ordered didn't taste good, it's hard for me to justify that. With that said, I'm giving Mambo's 3 out of 5 stars. I really hope they improve on some of the food because they definitely have a lot of good things going for them.
