This place is really hit or miss. Either you get paired with someone who knows what they're doing and understands EXACTLY what you want, or you get someone who, by some miracle, somehow has a license to touch people's hair with sharp objects. Example: I always get a fade. First time I attempted this, the stylist understand exactly what I wanted and cut my hair better than I imagined and I loved it. Second time, the stylist understood, but when they moved to cut, they did an unbelievably horrendous job that it made me question whether I even wanted to come back to this place. One side is higher than the other and the top looked like they were afraid to touch it with scissors. I went to World Cuts one day while passing by. I needed a haircut and thought I would go through the process of finding a new place since we just moved. I've been going to World Cuts ever since that day and can tell you that the ladies here are fast, and always consistent with good haircuts. There is about three ladies there that always get my hair right with minimal reminder of what I like. Granted, I did get a less than favorable haircut one time. It was a stylist I never got a cut from, and I made the mistake of thinking that all of them were as good as the next. I have been a loyal customer since 2012 and there are so many reasons why.. Customer service is phenomenal. Even when they are busy, they somehow manage to see everyone in a timely manner even walk-in's! I don't think I have ever waited for service for more than 10 minutes. The staff is amazingly nice and they make it a priority to remember your name and to really get to know you. When I'm up in Berkeley for class, I generally need at least a haircut or two during the semester before I can get back to my normal hair dresser back home in SoCal so I was told to try World Cuts by some friends. After having a bad experience at another local haircut salon, I figured I would give World Cuts a shot and ended up making the right choice. The staff is all super helpful, nice, and quick, which is something I value since I often have to go between classes. I have been about 4-5 times in the last two years and found that no matter which hairdresser I had, they always did my hair exactly how I wanted and made it look excellent. The price is $15 for a men's haircut which is pretty reasonable given that you can't get it at Great Clips for much under $12 in my experience. World Cuts earns all 5 stars and I would highly recommend it to students as it is fast, easy, and decently priced. I wish I could give 0 star. To conclude first: if you miss one appointment, you can never cut/dye your hair in this salon FOR A LIFETIME. (Once you miss one appointment, even that's because you are sick, the salon boss will refuse to cut your hair IN THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.) On Friday, I made an appointment to color my hair on Saturday. But I was extremely sick on Saturday so I went of Tang centre. I was food poisoned. Then, I went back to this salon to apologize and to check if I can have another appointment to dye my hair. The boss woman told me to come next Tuesday to ask her. During this time period, I called two times and asked them if I can make an appointment to dye my hair. They insisted that I MUST come to the salon in person to make that appointment. Today (Tuesday), I came to this salon in person to rearrange another appointment. But the boss woman told me that: "Once you miss one appointment, no matter if you are sick or not, you can NEVER EVER DYE YOUR HAIR HERE IN YOUR LIFETIME anymore." I think it's ridiculous. Then I asked :"So only because I was sick and missed one appointment, even I called you and apologized in person, I can't NEVER EVER cut or dye my hair here FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE???!!!!!!!" And the boss basically said yes. IT IS RIDICULOUS. THAT'S NOT THE WAY YOU DO BUSINESS. If there is a number for me to complain to the government, I will definitely call. read more

This place used to be better. The person who cut my hair could not understand basic instructions. I repeatedly told her not to part my hair to the left, and she would say, "okay, i understand", then proceed to mutilate my head. Now I have to tilt my head at an angle so my hair doesn't twist my spine. In addition, I repeatedly warned her about the cowlick in the back of my hair, and her solution was to not cut it at all so there's a 3 inch combover on the back of my head. Just went here for the first time ever today to get my super dead, frizzy, and chlorine-ified-from-swimming forest of "hair" taken care of today. I'm always hesitant about trying out new hairstylists (especially ones right next to a university campus...), but decided to go with it because this place has good reviews (plus I gotta support my viet people yeye). And my experience was lovely! Lan was the lady who cut my hair and she was very willing to listen to all of my requests and look at all of the pictures I showed her. She even asked to look at the pictures again for details. Throughout my haircut (which lasted about 15-20 minutes), she always made sure to stop and ask me to check if everything looked okay. She was also very clear about what she was going to do with my hair, like telling me what she'll be cutting next and why! Came here for my first Berkeley Brazilian, just looking for a place that would get the job done for a decent price. The place is nothing special, but the waxing was actually quite bad - took a while (about half an hour), not very thorough with a lot of hairs just broken off instead of pulled out, and the wax was hot enough to leave me with peeling skin for days. The atmosphere on the inside is, well, not inspiring, and it was hard to communicate just what I wanted. But for $17 it was decent. I think I would have preferred Supercuts though. Ask for Sophie. I get my hair cut by her every time (so much that she recognizes me) and she does a better job than places that cost more than 4x as much. I always leave happy with my hair, unlike those salon experiences when you feel like they didn't do what you wanted and you're dying inside. I came here after waiting at Berkeley Hair Studio for 3 hours without service and these guys got the job done quickly. One thing you have to beware when you come here is the particular hair dresser you choose. My preference is Renee. She is the most experience there. But the first time I went I was unaware of this fact and another lady started having a go at my hair like wild grass. After 20 minutes of "trial and error" Renee finally came to the rescue. Only twice was I forced to go to someone else because it was on a Sunday or because World Cuts was closed over Christmas break. Went to get my haircut yesterday and I love it! Unless I'm completely changing my hairstyle, I don't ever see the reason in spending $60 for a haircut. I asked to cut a few inches off the bottom, layer my hair and have side sweep bangs and they did an incredibly great job. The girls that work here are SO friendly and nice, and super easy to strike up a conversation with. The girls here are asian, and being an asian female, it's important to me to have someone that knows how to cut asian hair. I really wish I could give this place a better review, but after my last visit there, I can't! The first time I got a haircut here, I would've given the place a rating of 5 stars, Why? Because I had very specific things I wanted done with my hair and the lady cutting my hair followed exactly what I wanted! I was amazing, considering how even when I go to fancy salons, the stylists disregard 1 or 2 key points on my list of specifications for my haircut. That time when I went in, which was September 2013, I was trying to grow my hair out from a previous hairstyle: an asymmetrical cut in which I had half my hair shaved. I told the stylist that I wanted a trim to cut away the split ends of my bleached hair and to also thin it out a little because my hair is very thick but I also wanted to keep the length of the asymmetrical style. She followed all those directions! And it looked great! Flash forward six months to Janauary 2014... I come back to the salon. I give the same directions since I am still trying to grow my hair out while keeping it asymmetrical. I don't know how, the woman cutting my hair heard only half of what I said and decided to interpret it as far from what I wanted. Instead of just a trim to maintain my asymmetrical style, she CHOPPED OFF ALL MY BEAuTIFUL HAIR. Because, she said, this is what I asked for when I wanted to get the "dead bleached hair" trimmed so I can grow out my hair. That was not what I asked for !!!! It would've sort of been okay that she chopped off my hair if she did it right and in a style that looked good, but she didn't even do that! She thinned out only one side of my hair and left the other side longer and way thicker. I didn't notice till I got home because I was in a rush. I returned later to get her to fix it but it still looks awful and I kept telling her to thin out the thicker side so it looks even, but woman does not know how to do a decent job cutting hair. And the back still looks awful!!! Woman did not want to fix my hair and kept blaming my ugly hair style on what I told her. I really should've just asked for my money back, but I had such a long day and this way really the last thing I wanted to deal with. I got tired of the lady not fixing my hair and quite frankly, the lady couldn't cut hair in the first place, so I told her that was enough and went home with my hair still looking like a hot mess. I still need to go get another haircut somewhere else definitely, because I'm on the job hunt and wow, I really can't go interviewing with hair looking like absolute shit. I was on a tight budget and all I wanted was a simple trim. Based on these reviews I went to World Cuts. I said I wanted half an inch off and a tad more one the front because they were to long last time. As soon as I sat down the woman just cut of my banks in a straight line with one single cut. She did not care to at least use her second hand or to stop singing the song that was on the radio. She proceeded to do exactly that everywhere else on my head. Apparently, "trimming" to her meant cutting every hair TO the same length instead of BY the same length. I told her that my banks looked way too straight and if she could make them a little more chaotic and jagged. No problem! She went ahead and cut out a straght triangle! Also, she did not cut on the top at all, since apparently the hair was long enough there. Instead of trimming my hair she gave me a totally new and hideous haircut. Please never go there! My friends wanted to make me go back there and request that she fixed my hair, but frankly, I never want that woman to touch my hair again. read more

I've been to $50 a pop Rockridge joints, and aside from taking twice as long using a straight razor instead of scissors, I can't say I notice a huge amount of difference (especially not $35 worth of difference). As a student I got one of the worst haircuts of my life here. I saw the four star review, and I honestly think the high reviews are mainly for women's hair. They absolutely did not know how to cut mine. It was completely uneven, and a total mess at the end. It looked like a dog had taken a couple bites out of a patch of grass. There were bits just sticking out. The woman holding the clipper was very unsteady with her hand and it did not feel like she knew what she was doing. I asked for a line-up, and she repeatedly told me that a line-up did not look good on my head. I insisted and it turns out the only reason she kept on saying it did not look good was because she did not know how to cut a line-up. So she handed the clippers to another lady and she rushed through a horrendous lineup quickly so she could get back to her customer. It was the worst haircut of my life. I did not even ask them to fix it up because it was so butchered and anything they touched could only conceivable get worse. The only reason I made this yelp is express my experience.
