Updating my review to attach a photo of this haircut grown out a little. At the time I didn't want to spend more money to fix it right away, so I waited. This is what it looked like before I had it fixed. Avoid this place at all costs. I would rather fly down to SoCal to see my regular stylist than to put my hair through this again. I had to cut off 4" just to even it out, and will have to return again in 3 months to adjust it again after it's gotten a little longer. Overall it will taken me over 6 months to fix this haircut. I always feel comfortable when I go to Heads. The staff knows me and my hair needs. I have been going there for 25 years!

If you want a haircut that looks as cheap as is costs. Go here. Terrible. I went it for a regular trim with layers. The lady was making super reckless and drastic cuts the whole time. She kept arguing with me when I told her how long I wanted my bangs. When we got to the end I asked her to take them just a little bit shorter and she ended up (very aggressively) cutting a whole extra inch. Also they don't mention when you call that they are CASH ONLY. I had to walk to the other block with wet hair to pull out cash. The haircut I got also didn't include a wash OR drying. When I got home and my hair was dry I realized that it was lopsided and uneven. if you're really on a budget then this place IS affordable, but the quality of the cut definitely reflects that. read more

Heading out tomorrow aboard one of those big birds that ply the Northern skies. The last time I went through SFO, the silly TSA employee practically threw me bodily into the cattle call line...I almost had to handwrestle with the TSA personage who planned to guard all those first class wannabes from the likes of a little old scoundrel like me. I prevailed...waving my first class ticket over my head like a crusading avenger. NOT nice, I know, but I was late AND miffed. I figured it was the haircut. Too Scruffy. Or course it could have been the blue jeans and NIkes, but every Silicon Valley millionaire wears BJs and Nikes. So today, I went to Heads. Trusted my silver tresses to the ladies there. Told 'em I'd been growing my hair for over a year in honor of the late, great Samantha Francesca, our late, great very hairy dog. The ladies looked confused. So I changed the story. Told em I was growing my hair in memory of Farrah Fawcett. "Ohhhhhhhhhhh, not a problem...you want just a trim? Half an inch okay?" I got a great cut. Cost only 14 bucks as I'm a senior. Tipped the remainder of the twenty to my very attentive hairdresser with a flourish. Was in and out within half an hour. Farrah herself never looked so fine. So...thanks Head!s I feel fine! I'm BARTing to SFO tomorrow. And I bloody well better get first class treatment from those TSA workers. Heads are gonna roll if TSA even thinks of sending me into the cattle shoot. It's not the absolute worse salon I've ever been to. And, though I hated it, it probably was not the worse cut I've ever had in my life. But I will NEVER come back here, except maybe to drag out any friend or kind acquaintance I might see about to sit down for a cut. But that would be an act of charity or friendship. Think of it as me pulling your head back from a guillotine, friends. You're welcome. Here are the highlights of my regrettable experience of ever stepping in here (told in 2nd-person): 1) There's one stylist who speaks English, exhibits any hair-cutting skill and seems to somewhat enjoy doing what she does and is a pleasure for her customers. Her chair is right in front, only a few feet from the door. She's the "money beet" as Dwight Schrute might say. She lures passersby into the salon. But she's an illusion. You won't ever get your hair in her hands or probably in her eyesight. She's got back-to-back appointments and spends lots of time meticulously cutting the hair and engaging her client and professional and fun conversation. 2) As soon as you're in the door, a slew of slacker-looking Asian chicks will approach you and ask you what you want. They have accents but you try not to let that bother you because you're kind and non-judgmental. And you want to believe by virtue of the fact that they work with Money Beet and are somewhat understandable, they understand what you are saying. They help you in this delusion as they answer your questions and concerns with machine gun-like confimation: "yeah... yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah..." 3) Mid-way through the cut you notice the unevenness of both sides of your face, the wispy uneven bangs you said you did NOT want. You speak up. She ignores you. You speak again. So then she sets about "fixing it" and you watch your reflection's hair get shorter and more uneven. Through grinding teeth, you merely ask her to move on and stop cutting your hair. Then she combs your hair back wet in an attempt to hide all her mistakes, but you insist that it be dried fully... and even as she fails to do that simplest of things and you finish it, you walk away from Heads Salon looking like Moe of Three Stooges and Victoria Beckham's poodle had a still-born love child and buried it on your head. Yeah... I highly suggest steering clear of this salon. But some people are into humiliation, degradation and horrible experiences. read more

I am the kind of guy that get anxious about getting my haircut and always end up just dealing with what I get! KATHY does not take my hair likely. I asked her for a specific cut and she recommended a bit of a tweak to make it look better when it grows a little more. I love it even more!!! I went here today for a haircut and it's the worst haircut I've ever had! The lady (an elderly Asian woman) did not follow directions at all. I asked for a clipper cut on the sides and back and a trim on the top, leaving the front longer. Instead, she clipper cut my entire head including the front! She did not pick up a pair of scissors at all. It looks awful. I will never go here again, which is disappointing because I've had a decent haircut from here in the past, but from a different person. I used to love this place and have been going to it off and on for years. I am giving it a one star right now because I just got the worse haircut of my life from a woman named LINDA. I originally showed one of the other hairstylist there a picture of what I wanted and it came out perfect. I did the same with Linda. I also told Linda I just wanted a trim and it had only been 6 weeks since my last haircut. Unfortunately this time it was very different. I felt like I had a bowl of spaghetti placed upside down on my head. It was way too short in the front and the cut that same short length all the way around to the back. Then just a few shaggy hairs left long down my neck. It was all uneven and different heights on both sides of my head. The WORSE haircut I've ever had. Not the look I was going for. It is now so short I can't even do anything with it other than wait for it to grow out. :( I don't think this shaggy bowl like haircut would look good on anyone. There are a ton of barber shops on this little corner of Solano. I figured I'd go though each of them and risk my silky good stuff to figure out once and for all which one is my favorite. "Heads" is across the street from Supercuts and has a small recessed store front. It looked like a shiny jewelry from the street. I walked in around 5pm without an appointment. There were a bunch of Vietnamese ladies squabbling and having a good time. One of them waves me over and sits me down. "How you like it?" she asks, I shrug my shoulders and say "short and professional". I never really know what to say when they ask me that question; Sometimes I mumble "3 or 4" and my hair gets real short real fast. She makes a few hmm noises, adjusts her buzzer razor and works her magic. A bunch of buzzes later, she starts spraying and snipping with scissors. All the while, she's holding a conversation with me about my family and a separate raunchy conversation with the other ladies. She made a ton of really detailed cuts for my sideburns and neckside. I was really impressed how tidy everything looked when she finished. $15 bucks in and out in 25 minutes. I felt 1/2 a pound lighter and 3x more sexy. read more

That's funny, because I got the best hair cut I've ever had at Heads last month. I used to go across the street to Supercuts (you can see my review of them here on yelp) and after a butchery hair cut they gave me last year, I was just beside myself thinking I had to go back to them because it's all I can afford (unemployed student) I went in to Heads and Tina listened to me, and it's almost as if she could read my mind...she gave me the best cut I think I've ever had. I'm going back this week for a trim. [EDIT: I just called them yesterday to set up an appt. with Tina and they said she no longer works there...I'm not sure I'd trust a lot of these other ladies there...so for all it's worth, you know...caveat emptor.] Tina! where did you go! read more

Not easy to get through on the phone for an appointment, but the results are always good. I have nothing but praise for their work.

Heads is a solid salon with reasonable prices. It's right across the street from Super Cuts and charges about the same for a basic service ($15). That's about where the similarities between the two end. I've always felt that going to Super Cuts is a little like playing haircut roulette. Sometimes you get a good cut, and sometimes you look like your little sister cut your hair. I've been going to Heads for three years off and on, and I've been consistently satisfied. My hair (very straight and very blond) is the kind that conceals no barber's mistake. No matter which stylist cuts my hair at Heads, they always take the time to make sure it looks right. read more

First off I'm a guy with really long hair. I don't need anything fancy just a trim, and this place was perfect. Walked right in, didn't have to wait and was out of there in 25min. I gave her a $5 tip and the total with tip was $20, now how can you beat that. It could of been and inch or two shorter but there was a line starting to build up and I'm not the fussy type, especially for a $15 haricut. I will definetly go again. read more

I've been going here since it opened 25 years ago. It's a great place. The women are all very nice, and they take their profession seriously. I get a consistently good haircut for a very low price ($15 + tip). I've gotten nothing but great and inexpensive haircuts here. Being Asian, it's hard to expect much from your typical barber, unless you want a buzz cut. My hair grows all weird; very coarse and in all directions. Rosie, my favorite 'hairstylist', always has a smile for me and does her job meticulously well. My wife's entire family goes to Heads (6 of them!), and have been going for years. They take appointments as well as drop-ins, but expect a wait for the latter. read more

I give this business a solid 3 stars. I take my daughter (aged under 12) there for haircuts because they will wash her hair as well as cut it (if Snippety Crickets did that, I would have stayed with them). The cuts have been reliably good and the haircutters have always been nice to my daughter. You have to ask for the lollipops because they are under the counter, which is actually good if you don't want your kid to have a lot of sugar. It's possible they have stickers too. Be aware this is a cash-only business, so don't expect to use your credit card. read more

I've been to Heads for many years and have had different operators. My regular one is the gal nearest the front door and she's excellent. She's popular and booked so I make an appointment if I want her to do my hair. Annually she takes refresher courses to keep up with the styles and products. The other operators need more prompting as to exactly what I want. If you're not a regular and have just come off the street, do yourself a favor and bring a picture or be more specific when the operator is working along. I've had different operators and all of them ask me what I want, remember they're not mind readers. I know my hair like the back of my head but a stranger, even a good hair operator doesn't. The key is good communication and be as specific as possible. No assumptions. The best method, bring a photo. The price is excellent at this shop, most all the operators are good and competent and the shop is clean. read more

My father has been going to have Rosie cut his hair for years, and she's continued to do so since he had a stroke, cutting his hair while he sits in his wheelchair. When I called today to get an appointment, the woman who answered said that Rosie was out of town. He needed his hair cut before an event this weekend, so we made an appointment and went in. I told the woman there that he couldn't transfer into one of the stylist chairs, and she moved a chair and I helped him get in position. She asked how long she wanted his hair and beard. Then she asked if he couldn't stand and move to a different chair. I said he couldn't. She said it was too hard for her to cut his hair while he was in the wheelchair. I said he couldn't transfer, and if she couldn't cut his hair while he was in the wheelchair, we'd have to go elsewhere. She shrugged and opened the door. Fortunately, there's another very similar salon right around the corner, and the stylist there did a great job and was very pleasant. We'll go back if Rosie is on duty, but not otherwise. read more

my boyfriend went to get his hair cut there, he's been there before and gotten a decent haircut. but this time... it was awful. I don't know who cut his hair but she barely spent any time on it and it turned out awful. the fade was nonexistent, there were uneven patches, and apparently the attachment fell off at some point, so now he has bald lines on the back of his head. he even went back to ask for her to fix it, and it came out even worse than before. I have a regular hair cutter woman I see there who will remain nameless. She's very good and always does the haircut the way I always have worn it for years. The only con about this place ..... ANSWER YOUR FRICKIN PHONE!! When I'm there and the phone rings it takes forever for someone to answer. How many seconds does it take to walk away from the person whose hair your cutting to answer the phone!? When I'm not there and want to make an appt. and call them well after 10 when they open at 10 a.m. NO ONE ANSWERS THE FRICKIN PHONE!! A good value at $15 for a haircut. I started coming here when I was unemployed and continue to come because it is such a good deal. I see either Rosie or Kathy and bring my daughter as well. The staff is so friendly and they always have the candy bowl stocked which keeps the kids happy. This is a great place for a trim or basic style, not the place if you expect someone to create a new style for you. As long as you know what you want they can do it. They take walk-ins, but Saturdays can be busy, so it is best to call ahead and make an appointment. They are open late on some days as well. Cash or checks only. read more

They are very flexible in trying to meet the needs of their clients in scheduling and styling. Just got the worst haircut of my life there. The "stylist" seemed to ignore what I asked for (shoulder length, nothing fancy) and I ended up with chin-length hair that makes me look like a mushroom. Throughout the haircut I made it clear that she was cutting my hair way too short but she seemed to ignore me and continue. This is a GREAT place to get your hair cut inexpensively. I've got long, layered hair that I can be really picky about, but I also get annoyed paying so much to get it cut sometimes. So, I revolt and go to heads for a $20 cut. I've never had a bad cut there, and when I've gotten it cut by Linda, I've actually had a lot of compliments (more than my normal $75+ cut). She got a haircut that she's very happy with, and no longer needs a ride from Mom for her hair styling needs. What's not to love? WORST PLACE EVER. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. An Asian woman w/ glasses and long black hair assisted me & she was completely & utterly RUDE. She did not listen to what haircut I wanted instead she cut it too short. I went in w/ my mother & she even argued w/ my mother.
