I've stopped by for some small household items and fixing things at home. They have a cute store cat that helps catch the mice that try to eat the pet food. First time in the store. Not a warm, friendly environment. The items i came in to purchase were locked behind a cage, employ unlocked the cage and stood over my shoulder the whole time. They were not even high ticket items. Didn't have some of the items I was looking for. The big box stores do. They have a shop cat (like another hardware store in town) but there are signs posted everywhere not to "disturb" or "pet" the cat. What's the point of the cat then? Lost prevention? I needed either a flapper or a whole new toilet guts. The guy in the store looked at my picture and set me up with the correct piece, explained what to check for and how to install it. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! The manager/owner does not have the community spirit that downtown Pleasanton prides itself on. He had my car towed within 20 minutes. There were 8 empty spots when I arrived and 9 spots when I found out my car had been towed...He taped a printed sign to my car "True Value Parking Only. You will be towed if you are not inside the True Value Store. TOW AWAY". I parked in the lot next to the store to run in and buy a few things. I then went down a few doors to patronize a couple other shops on Main St. I then went back into the store to purchase more. I went out to find my car was towed. When I went to pick up my car from the tow place, workers there shared that this man calls for cars to be towed all the time. DON'T SHOP HERE! read more

This is a family owned business. Very similar to an old little neighborhood hardware store. You can find just about anything you need here. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are great and customer service is awesome. It doesn't matter if you are buying a screw or BBQ, service is something they pride themselves on and when you enter you always get a Hello nice to see you again. Love this place. read more

Love a small, local hardware store! There are a True Value affiliate, but better customer service than you'll ever find at the 2 big box guys. Smaller locations mean less selection, but they are great for certain niche items. Recently needed to replace the mailbox number stickers at home, and the local Home Depot had NOTHING available in store. Workbench had multiple options available (gold, silver, slanted text and straight text). This is your best hardware store in Pleasanton if you want true neighborhood support and customer service. I brought my daughters scooter into the store because I needed to replace the wheels and put new bolts in. Albert jumped in and helped me cut off the old bolts that I happened to strip on Christmas Eve. He then found the perfect bolt to fit as a replacement. My daughter was back on that scooter flying ! Every time I go in here the staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Today's adventure was no exception. I went in to try to find staples for my old craftsmen staple gun. The staff member not only pointed out where staples went but also continued to help me try to find the right staple based on my model number and continued to help even when no number match was found (guess my staple gun is quite old. Super helpful owner/staff! I bought a bench from here back in November. When I finally got around to putting it together, I find the wrong hardware was in the box. I emailed the company that made the bench and they sent me what I needed...but I still was struggling to get it put together. I stopped by Workbench thinking I still had the wrong parts. The older gentleman opened another bench identical to what I bought and walked me through what I was doing wrong. He even offered to help me put it together if I brought it back in. I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong, but I super appreciate the time this man spent with me, helping me get my bench together...like the dad I never had! read more

I should have stopped at this hardware store first! I was in a near panic, as I was struggling to find a replacement valve for my main water shutoff for our house. Our water had been off for hours and it was close to 4 pm on a Sunday afternoon. This store was my 3rd stop of the afternoon and I was giving up hope. The gentlemen that helped me find a replacement for our 40 year old valve went above and beyond, not willing to concede until he found exactly what I needed. He went so far as to disassemble a couple of new valves to make sure I had an exact match for the part I needed. Incredible service from a skilled professional. 6/7/2022 late afternoon - I live around the corner so if I need something quickly for repair or whatever it's really convenient...until today. I ran in to grab some parts I quickly needed. Since Alameda County has reinforced the mask mandate, I assumed all employees would be wearing a mask...just as I was. Unfortunately the 3 employees in the store at the time were not wearing their masks. I asked why when it's county mandated and all three employees indicated they didn't want to wear a mask. The gal with the short red hair was the most blatant on not wearing one and as a customer I found it extremely rude. As I was in a rush for what I needed, I just grabbed my stuff, paid and got out of the store. Moral of this story is...If Workbench Hardware doesn't care about my health with their unmasked associates when masks are mandated by Alameda County then I don't need to give them my business. I didn't realize that some businesses were doing so well it was ok to lose customers on account that their employees are able to do what they want and when they want...even under county mandates. read more

My co-worker went to this store on Sunday afternoon to buy some solar lights. It was too late in the evening to install them so she installed them Monday morning around 10 am. She noticed 1 of the lights is broken so she went back to the store to return it. She noticed that the person who helped her when he came out had a toothpick in his mouth (so unprofessional) and as she was waiting for him his phone rang and he answered it and kept her waiting (again, very unprofessional). When he was done, she explained that she noticed 1 of the lights is broken and wants it replaced. The guy told her she should have inspected it when she bought it. She told him she just noticed it since she just installed it this morning. This guy kept repeating that she should have inspected it. My co-worker said "are you calling me a liar and accusing me of breaking it?" She also told him that they should inspect their products instead before placing it on the shelf for sale. She told him he was being rude and he answered it my co-workers perspective. My co-worker asked for light to be replaced and he said they didn't have it in stock anymore. My co-worker asked for the money back and he reluctantly gave it to her. Before my co-worker left the store she asked for the owner's name and that she will be calling him about this experience. In fairness to the owner, he called my co-worker back later saying that the guy could be abrupt sometimes. His employee should be taught a lesson about customer service. My co-worker told the owner that because of this experience she won't be back to shop in that store again. I won't also be shopping in this store either. read more

I called to ask if this place could cut a piece of sheet metal for me. I was thinking... Well, this is downtown. .. Maybe it would be a little more like a mom and pop store. ..I was wrong! The lady who answered the phone was completely rude and made me feel like an idiot for even asking my question. She wouldn't even go ask the other employees if they could help me. She had a major attitude and told me "this is a hardware store!"... Well no shit lady, that's why I called! I stopped by this new hardware location to see if they might have a pin that goes into my shopping cart and keeps the wheel from falling off. When I showed it to them, they knew 1) what type of pin it was (it's a very odd shape), 2) that they carry pins like that and 3) where to find this tiny object amongst thousands of products in the store. I was in there less than 5 minutes, got exactly what I needed and checked out without a delay. 5 stars - no question! read more

Great help and solid products. They have helped me fix sprinkler systems, repair mold damage, replace toilet parts, pretty much every problem around the home. They even made an electronic key for a car for a lot less than the dealer. Great place. Today I went in because I lost screws for my TV stand and they helped get the right screws, as well as lift the TV and make sure it didn't tip over. read more

I was doing a small project for an EMS job at the Good Guy's show in Pleasanton . I needed some small pieces of plastic pipe cut. I received the best customer service from an employee named Bill. Even though it was a small order he helped me more than any of the big box stores would have. This store has the most rude employee's that I've ever seen, including the owner. A person likes to shop these stores to support the local community but when you are treated and talked to like a dummy and every word that comes out of their mouths is sarcastic, I'll go to Lowes from now on.
