I became distracted by their kitchen aisles, densely stocked with colorful dishware, gadgets, specialty jams, sauces, condiments, pickled products and seasonings. Dishtowels? Yes. Stovetop popcorn poppers? Yes. Need some tea with that tea cup? Yes! It's a store within a store. Maybe it's a good time to reuse that gift basket and package up items for a foodie, host or bride. Going to Ace Hardware on First Street in Livermore is like going to Disneyland! Seriously! It's a guys dream store. I'm trying to justify buying that electric mini bike! 1st I want management and Corporate (whom I emailed) to know about two star employees they have at the Livermore CA store, Taylor and Paul. We support local businesses and that's why we come to Ace. Taylor and Paul went over and beyond to make my purchase happen after having HORRIBLE problems online trying to order from my construction business account. Taylor took me aside, checked into my options, explained everything, let me use my New account $5 coupon that ONLINE would NOT DO! Your online service needs to be revamped! But the computer glitch did make me go to my local Ace where Paul asked what I was looking for and he escorted me to the service desk,stayed and made sure I was taken care of by Taylor who was extremely fantastic. Taylor and Paul are Star employers,need to be commended and train everyone at all retail stores on how PERFECT CUSTOMER SERVICE is done! Bravo! Ace Hardware - Right now these are a steal! - Hardware Stores Near Me - Livermore, California

Would not recommend coming here. Only went there with my mom because she needed an item for her work. We walk in and automatically felt "watched" by the employees. I got a nice candle their sign said MilkTank candle sale prices. A small one cost $4.99. Once we got to the check out line I saw an associate talking into their head piece radio looking straight at us. My theory was right. Once we walked in we were automatically stereotyped. Once the candle was rang up it said it was $12 and I told the cashier actually I don't want that. Your sign says $4.99. She turned and told the cashier next to her saying she changed her mind she doesn't want it. And again I said well the sign there says $4.99. I was ignored. They could have easily went to check their sign maybe it was labeled at the wrong price. Disgusting place and shame on the employees there for stereotyping me and my mom. read more

How nice to have a hardware store where Orchard Supply was, with friendly help! The only thing I would caution against is the paint. After three coats, I realized I had to find a professional paint store, of which there are now two in Livermore. It wasn't the fault of the people working at Ace and I was otherwise delighted. read more

Knife sharpening!! I'll start my review to rave about their knife sharpening service. I had previously used a very grumpy and rude vendor at the Farmers market. I am so glad I switched! My knives have never been so sharp and they've held the edge for twice as long! I also love this Ace because of its proximity to my house and I find that they carry nicer quality selections. Excellently service. I'm a female and not too knowledgeable in the putting together. Today's project was a drip system. The gentleman that helped me was great. He explained everything and told me my options. He was very patient. Before that I tried Lowe's and waited over forty minutes. They didn't have the anyone that could help and didn't let me know. Went in to store and showed a picture to show what problem I was facing - two older gentlemen came up with suggestions and showed me supplies and how to save money. Went today (just a few minutes ago) to see if I could find a solution to an oddball problem. A 20 year old plastic heater cover needed some type of attaching hardware. The guy in the screws, nuts and bolts section immediately asked if I needed help, solved the problem in the space of a couple minutes. Glad Ace took over the old Orchard Supply that was killed by Lowes. I was sick when they closed. This is always my first stop and I rarely have to go to Home Depot or Lowes any more. Similar to OSH, I can walk into Ace, readily find a staff member on the floor, tell them what I need and they'll walk me right to the item location. No time wasted! The Staff is eager to offer follow up help and will stay with you if needed. It is a well-stocked store and I've always been able to get what I need. In the same brand names they carry the better models of tools and machinery than the "big box" stores which is why what you buy at ACE will last much longer. The big box stores can sell products cheaper because the manufacturers make cheaper (in quality) products for them to sell at lower prices. I'm still using power and hand tools purchased long ago at OSH. The staff is knowledgeable, as many are retired from the industry and know their business. When I need help, I don't hesitate to ask for help/suggestions. I've wasted no time having staff members locate something for me in the store. The store is clean, organized, well-stocked and some days I'll stop by just to see what they have; especially in the Traeger area. Kind of like going to the park for a breath of fresh air. A gentleman helped me find an item in the store about a week ago and I've forgotten his name which I was going to include in this write-up. My apologies to him, but thanks again for so quickly locating the product!! Ace is always my first (and usually my last) stop. Masks required for entry - wonderful. Unfortunately this isn't enforced equally to staff based on two recent occasions. On one, the person managing the paint counter wasn't wearing any mask at all. I gave them a wide berth but had no choice to engage with them, to unlock a paint brush anti theft device (is there a rash if paint brush thefts I'm not aware of?). On another occasion, one cash register's mask was not covering their nose. I paused, took an additional step back from the 6 feet I already maintained. Looked left and the other had their mask down draped on just one ear. That's when the transaction went through and I asked to return the product immediately. When asked why, I explained why, not wearing their mask. Then the 2nd cash register rebutted that she did have here on, and had just been scratching herself and the first pulled her mask up. Bad timing on top of the past incident and not a discussion - just an answer to their question and decision made with my wallet. Appreciate the apology, but appreciate keeping my family safe even more. read more

Pretty poor experience. I ordered a tool online and when I got there they said that they couldn't find the order. He then proceeded to be extremely unprofessional and rude about it. The service is always impeccable, the staff is so well-trained if you have absolutely anything you have the slightest question on, do not go anywhere else but ACE. They are prompt, super knowledgeable (especially when you don't know what the thingymabobber's name is, and can only describe it), exceptionally pleasant, filled with other great ideas you didn't even think about, and not one person is going to say as you blast in the door at 7:55pm, "We close in 5 minutes!", or turn the lights out on you! They are much more effective at getting you what you need without the lengthy wait and endless searching you have to go thru in the big box stores, only to find nobody knows wth you are talking about, do not have anything that will help you, have no idea what else you can do to solve your problem, and are out of stock on the one item you need. Don't waste your time going back and back and back to see if anybody ordered it yet, because they never will. At ACE, they will have it in stock, and if they didn't, I will bet you they will come up with it in a nanosecond! I was a fan of Orchard Supply and was so unhappy when this location closed down. Ace took over and I didn't go in for many months. Today we went in and greeted by Steve (who was mentioned in a message below) and we felt like this is just like Orchard supply. Ace took over the old OSH building. Very welcome since we in southwest Livermore have to drive all the way across town to Home Depot or Lowe's for our hardware needs. The store is very well laid out and very similar to the OSH configuration. Different brands than Home Depot or Lowes which is nice and smaller than the big box stores which makes for a much better experience. I found exactly what I was looking for at a competitive price. This has been a disappointment so far. I've visited twice for irrigation parts. They had exactly the sprinkler head that I needed to replace, but they didn't have the special key needed to adjust the range and arc of this sprinkler -- one is useless without the other. Today, I was looking for a coupler to repair a cut in my 1/2" drip line. They had a spot on the shelf for the coupler, but nothing in stock. Actually, they had no couplers of any size -- it's like somebody forgot to order those parts. Each time, I made the trek to Home Depot to find what I needed. I would welcome a well-stocked store on my side of town. I was a frequent OSH customer. Hopefully, these are growing pains for this new store and they'll turn it around. read more

Taylor at the register was kind and made my day.
