This place is sooo aesthetic. It gets very crowded on the weekend and hard to find parking and seats. On weekdays it gets busy too but doable. Their drinks are unique and their homemade syrups are great. I tried their sandwiches which surprisingly taste good. Highly recommend checking it out at least once. Great vibe

Been wanting to try this place for a while now and finally had the chance recently. It did not disappoint! I got the breakfast burrito with bacon. I was tempted by the pastrami option bc I don't know anyone else that does PASTRAMI in a breakfast burrito! If I'm being honest, it felt more like a wrap than a burrito bc it was full of cabbage and the sauces provided were like chimichurri and sriracha vs salsa. It still was really good and tasty though! It was crowded on a Sunday morning but luckily a few tables were available. The line was out the door but it moved quickly. The inside is cute with natural lighting and a clean white and wooden look. Would definitely come back!

First of all, I absolutely love the name "Work In Progress," and the customer service we received was exceptional. The person taking my order offered some great suggestions. We ended up loving our drinks--the taste was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. We also really enjoyed the atmosphere, especially the lighting inside and the outdoor seating area. It was a great surprise to find that they offer food as well. On the day we visited, there was a cheesecake vendor on-site, and it was truly delicious. I will definitely be telling others that if that vendor is there, they should not pass up getting a slice! Thank you for such a lovely experience!

Popped into Work in Progress for a caffeinated beverage before a road trip to San Jose. The Dirty Earl was unfathomably delicious! Can't wait to go back to try out more beverages, and maybe even pop in for a wine night. :) Super friendly service!

Quick a hip coffee shop, we were in the area and came here to grab breakfast and coffee. I forgot what drinks we all got, but I do remember that we all enjoyed each of our drinks. The AM Burrito comes with your choice of bacon or pastrami and also a side of pickled onions, house green sauce, and hot sauce. The burrito was tasty and made for a delicious breakfast. The price is certainly a little expensive, but it comes sliced, so you can split it with someone. The split portion was a solid amount for breakfast. Overall, it was a solid experience and I wouldn't mind revisiting!

Updating my review since I got coffee drinks this time and honestly, I prefer the coffee over there Matcha any day. The cold brew was really good and the cream top wasn't too sweet. Parking is always a bit of a struggle at this area in Costa Mesa, but overall would definitely come back for the coffee.

For a place called Work in Progress, it seems to have figured things out already. It's always buzzing, rarely empty, and the overall vibe suggests this café is starting to outgrow its own footprint. Service is smooth, and efficient. The line moves quickly, and everyone seems genuinely happy to be there. The interior is bright and open, lively without feeling hectic, with a minimal industrial calm. No table charge means laptops stay awhile, but spots still open up sooner than you'd think. Of the list of sandos, I've tried the SPICY SANDO, CLASSIC SANDO, and the BREAKFAST SANDO. All were excellent. The focaccia bread stood out in particular. Light, buttery, and crispy. It holds up well and ties everything together. Of the drinks I tried, the PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE WITH ALMOND MILK, DE LA ROSA MAZAPAN PEANUT LATTE, MAPLE BROWN SUGAR LATTE, PISTACHIO CREAMTOP MOCHA, and VANILLA LATTE WITH SEASONAL CINNAMON CREAM TOP were all solid, with flavors that stayed controlled and not overly sweet. Work in Progress, currently in high demand. Repeat visits feel inevitable.

This place was recommended to me by my YE friend Bonnie, so my bf and I stopped by on a Sunday morning. I almost had a full moment here but I got sidetracked by the cafe across the street and we ended up doing coffee here and breakfast over there. Lol. The vibe is super chill. It's a smaller space, but they make good use of it with both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was quick and efficient, even with how packed it gets. The coffee was delicious! We also shared a croissant topped with pistachio cream and the Ube madeleine but that was a total miss. They were dry like Sahara desert dry and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. I'm not convinced they make their pastries in-house. Still, I'd absolutely come back for the coffee and would love to actually try their breakfast next time minus the pastries.

Located in the Camp, WIP has a unique menu of coffee and breakfast/sando items. We ordered the Brown butter foam over the cold brew which is very buttery with chunks of brown butter swimming in the creamy top. The hot latte is standard. The Pastrami breakfast burrito is different and tasty! It is enough for two meals. Pastries from Nonna Mercato in Long Beach. Parking easy in the morning. Please come and create your own adventure.

It's been over a few years since I've been here since I moved away but I decided to come back with a friend for a light lunch. I used to get their rosemary latte which was delicious. I love that their sandwhiches are on focaccia bread. I ordered the tuna sandwhich and a pistachio cream top matcha latte. It was a little watered down maybe from ice or maybe too much milk. Overall the vibes of this place is really relaxing and nice. Some of the seating can be a little low or uncomfortable for longer durations but the outside patio is a good spot. It can be very quiet inside since there's usually more people working than hanging out. Parking can be difficult, they have a small lot and some street parking, but you can also try the camp area and walk through the middle. Food is delicious, matcha was okay, interior was unique.

I came here with my girl friends after a dinner to check out their wine bar at night and it was such a vibe. There was no wait on a Friday night so there was lots of seating. I really liked the ambient lighting and the music which really set the tone of the mood. It's the perfect spot to go to for a date or intimate hangout. My weekend ritual for a while was sitting at WIP, ordering a sandwich, and reading or journaling. It's too loud to do either comfortably, but i have noise canceling headphones. I love this place. They have fantastic food - criminally underrated (?) a BIT pricey, but i think it's worth it. If you go on a weekend, expect to do a couple rounds before you find parking. My favorite sandwich is the classic turkey sando, but I recently managed to steal a bite from my buddy's spicy sando, and, oh my god, it was so good. The breakfast burrito is also delicious, but not your classic breakfast burrito: there is pickled cabbage in there, so if you're not into that, skip it. I am into that.

Amazing rosemary latte with sea salt foam and Caesar sandwich they have is to die for ! The hint of salt and vinegar chips in the sandwich pair so well with the other ingredients! How has this place been around for over a year yet I never knew about it!! Work in Progress is the real deal coffee shop. House made syrups. Had a rosemary latte and it was perfect. ~$8 I have been wanting to try WIP (in person) for the longest time. I used to drink my co workers drinks whenever they got coffee/tea from WIP and I always really liked it. I was happy I went because the coffee was super good and the menu was very creative + well thought out (but it is pricey). The cafe is really nicely decorated, i loved the aesthetic. The service was also excellent. However, not a good spot for studying because its so hot and the Wi-Fi is not the best. Orange Creamsicle Shakerato: Whenever I'm at a Cafe I always gravitate towards getting anything with orange and coffee in it (if they have it). I think it is probably my favorite combination of flavors. The coffee was super nutty, smooth and had the perfect amount of bitterness to it. The orange flavoring added the perfect amount of sweetness and acidity to it. It went together so well. I also got it with oat milk. I loved it! 9/10 read more

Very cute spot in Costa Mesa! Came here to get some work done. It's definitely on the more crowded end- but this sandwhich was worth it! Food didn't take too long to get to us, but I was not a fan of the matcha. Did not taste like authentic matcha, and was too milky. But cute space! Will return in the future. read more

Mixed experience at Work in Progress on Saturday, October 5th at 7am, but probably won't be returning. The issues started right away when they got my name wrong - it's not Nate lol. This wasn't just a minor slip-up; it meant my drink sat on the counter for a few minutes because I didn't realize it was mine. Confusing start to say the least. When we finally got the drink, the matcha was disappointingly watery. Then came the AM burrito. We ordered it without beans, but received one with beans and no meat. The employee brought it out, looking annoyed at us, and asked us rudely, "Where's the meat?" I had to remind him we requested no beans, not no meat. To their credit, they did fix the burrito issue and provided a new, correct sandwich. Mistakes happen, and I appreciate that they made it right. The biggest problem, however, was the attitude of the guy working there. Even when correcting the order, he was dismissive and seemed annoyed by our presence. A little courtesy goes a long way, especially when dealing with mix-ups. The food itself was decent once we got the right order, but the service and initial confusion really brought down the experience. While I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, the combination of order mistakes, name mix-up, and poor attitude means I'd probably not come back here. There are too many other options in Costa Mesa with both good food and good service. read more

I ordered just a simple black coffee. The guy who served me, poured it from a carafe, where the coffee had been brewed three hours before. It was barely warm. He knew this, and still gave it to me instead of making a fresh pot. I'm sorry, for a cup of coffee at $3.25, this is unacceptable. It's just poor service. Their standard of service needs to be higher. read more

A really great Cafe, with fantastic coffees and also wine! Casual, relaxing, sometimes the cheapo trendies take up seats with their laptops and a cup of h20 but it's really worth being there, and the food is very good and best croissants outside Paris. read more

I love the chai iced latte here. The coffee space is super cute and bright. Lots of natural lighting. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Super door friendly. My only complaint is for any milk substitutes. It'll be $1. So our chai ice lattes will come out to be $6 and some change. The staff is super friendly and they always have some seasonal drink for the month written on board Tip. They close pretty early on weekdays at 4pm, but they will serve you if you get in before 4 and make it to go. Yeah. That cool read more

Ugh I love this place so much, I tried the Holiday Tonic with Espresso and their Tomato Soup today, along with their regular Espresso Tonic and Classic Sando that I already enjoyed getting. The Holiday Tonic has cranberry and rosemary, which was a lovely addition to their usual tonic. The Tomato Soup was so good. It had some little chunks of tomato in it and the side of chonky focaccia bread was nice and soft, it was so fun to dip in the soup. read more

If you go to WIP, your life will be ruined forever. Ever since I tried WIP, the moment I peel my eyes open, I dream of having a Matcha Latte with lavender syrup and their sea salt foam with their breakfast burrito accompanying it. It hurts to go on with my day knowing that I live 41 miles away from WIP and have no convenient access to it. All I can say is: go to WIP, don't expect there to be easy seating, and order a burrito/sandwich/dish/any food-type item. They don't have a single not delicious food item and all their sandwiches are so fresh and amazing (this is coming from a sandwich fanatic!!). I just don't know how it's fair for this place to exist so far away from me. They have really trendy cool bottled wines, flavored mimosas, delicious coffee, and amazing sandwiches. I typically wouldn't leave a 1 star review but this food is utterly disgusting. I ordered a tuna sandwich and it tasted like rotten fish. It was so bad. I've attached a photo because I couldn't take more than one bite without bringing it to their attention. I asked if I could please have something different. They said "Yeah you'll have to pay for it." Ok... no problem. I paid without fuss. However, being that EVERY OTHER coffee shop and I assume restaurant has the "if you don't like it we fix it policy" they will never get my business again. This is my second time here but first time ordering food. The atmosphere is ok, pretty crowded and extremely loud music, not the worst thing it just depends on the vibes you want. read more

If it wasn't for this chick Jesse at the register today I'd give this place 5 stars. Worst etiquette and mannerisms. No greet. No hello. Nothing. Such a vibe kill. Costa Mesa is full of coffee spots but WIP is probably my favorite in OC for great coffee and good vibes. This time, I got the rosemary latte with oat milk and sweet cream which might be my go-to order now. I'm obsessed with the earthy rosemary that goes really well with the flavor of the espresso and the sweet cream was a nice addition to add a little sweetness and texture. Their espresso tonic is also super refreshing and their ube matcha impressed me with the ube flavor being really present in the drink. I love their morning sando, which is a bit pricey, I'll admit. I might be biased because I love focaccia but their ingredients also feel really fresh and it's such a tasty sandwich. I haven't tried the wine and bodega side of it yet, but I would love to in the future. I really like the layout and the warm and minimalist aesthetic that opens up to their outdoor space. The sun lights up the space in a magical way later in the day. Finding parking can be a hassle sometimes. You can take a gamble for the lot behind the shop but I usually park on the street. It can get really crowded and loud in the shop sometimes and outlets are hard to come buy, so getting work done there was a challenge. Otherwise, I enjoy coming if I have the time to sit and enjoy my drink with company. I also love that it feels like a *local* spot. They've been hosting events in the evenings like karaoke and movie nights with pop ups by local creators and chefs that have been so fun and are building a cult following lol read more

Absolutely love this place. Can get quite busy and hard to find a seat, but it's worth it! The rosemary latte with salted foam is hands down the best coffee drink in Orange County. I also really enjoy their matcha tonic! Overall, drink and food menu has great options and everything is super yummy. The pastrami breakfast burrito is also one of the best in Orange County. I can usually stay and get work done, but if you don't do well in loud/busy environments it might not be the best spot. Fun for a date though! read more

Went here for a matcha and I believe I got what was called a matchana with pistachio foam. The matcha was alright but the foam didn't taste like pistachio at all and it was personally too watery for a foam for me. read more

This coffee shop is very cute, smaller than expected, & busy. Oh and the parking is terrible lol. The Rosemary latte is very good! The AM burrito is okay, not much flavor. Although I like how it's kinda crispy & I don't know what that green paste is, but it's fire lol. The employees are not friendly at all. I've been to quite a few shops around the Costa Mesa area with much better service. They weren't very helpful, many coffee shops you can tell when people enjoy being there but here it feels like they don't want to be there and ruins the vibes. And not to necessarily call anyone out but to call someone out the girl with very pretty lashes , short black hair with bangs, not nice at all. My favorite here is the iced mint matcha latte. If you're trying to avoid dairy, then almond milk is a great alternative. I've also tried their strawberry matcha, americano, and breakfast sando, but none stood out as much as the mint match. Service is friendly. Every time I stop by this cafe, I've gotten lucky with parking, but inside it's always really packed. This is not the best cafe for large groups, but there are a few larger tables (seats 4-6 ppl). This is my third time at WIP and I absolutely love the ambiance, drinks, and food. I've had a rose latte, rosemary latte, and an iced matcha and all were amazing. The AM burrito is also great & i love the pickled onions on the side. The breakfast sando is my favorite though, the bread is so fresh and addicting. This space attracts such lovely people and it's a great space to hang out and get some work done. However I wish the baristas were a little nicer. They definitely aren't as friendly and welcoming as I was expecting them to be, which sucks because WIP is 10/10 in every other category! Such amazing quality coffee, food, and vibes! Though very popular and hard to find seats during peak hours (11-1), it is so worth to try whenever you're in the area. After coming here for the first time, this is already probably one of my fav coffee places ever. Definitely recommend the Rosemary latte--so worth the hype! If you're coming to study, I would also recommend having a trusty hotspot just in case because the wifi does have technical difficulties but since I love the coffee so much, I'm willing to overlook it. The motto of this place is: "I was just here yesterday and had to come back today!" I overheard a woman say this on her way in, and it turns out I ended up doing the same! Every single sando was delicious, but my favorite was the fresh sando - it was so tasty. I was hesitant on the summer peach sando, but when I took a bite, I was so pleasantly surprised. All the flavors just worked together so well - you must try at least once (I got it twice already and will probably get it again!). I wish they would allow ordering over the phone, but I can understand why they don't -- there's usually a consistent crowd and the wait would probably be even longer if they did. I highly highly highly recommend their rosemary latte! I was skeptical at first but it turned out to be one of the best lattes I've ever had (in my life)! The rosemary syrup was perfect. A little bit sweet and a little bit salty. They stopped brewing the morning coffee a little early, so that was a bit of a letdown. Opted for a pour over instead though and it was okay. I like their interiors here. Bright with high ceilings. Easy parking too. read more

What a vibe. As soon as I walked in, I loved how airy it felt with the inside and outside feeling like one. The inside leads into the outside naturally so there's lots of natural light and it's just bright outside. I got a hot latte and my friend got a matcha latte. I really liked my latte and the latte art was really cute which I appreciate. The espresso in the latte felt like it was a bit on the light roast side (I'm more of a dark roast fan) but felt smooth enough that I appreciated. I want to come back to try the food. I saw lots of people grabbing food. They also sell local goods on the sides whether it's tea or chocolate. It's great that a local place gives a platform for other local sellers! read more

The ube matcha was good. It was very creamy and had a prominent ube flavor. My friend said her double matcha was good, but a bit pricey! With the substitution of oat milk, her total came out to $9! We concluded that if we're in the area and arent sure what cafe to hit up, we'd probably visit this spot again for some matcha!

The matcha was incredibly smooth, earthy, and had the perfect milk-to-matcha ratio. It actually tasted like matcha instead of being diluted by a giant cup of ice. I tried both the regular iced matcha with blueberry and the special iced matcha with matcha cold foam, and both were absolutely delicious. The only downside is that the parking lot is a bit small, but that's a minor issue. This location is located behind the Wahoo's Fish Taco Overall, I really loved this place and will definitely be coming back to try their other drinks

Creative drinks, great atmosphere, friendly service, space issues. 4.5 Stars. The Breakfast Sando is amazing and the Rosemary Latte hits different. Though rosemary might sound weird, it's definitely a must try. The Spicy Sando is excellent and the Classic Sando is extremely solid. You won't go wrong with either, but I prefer the Spicy Sando. I enjoyed the London Fog. The Mint Matcha Latte was a bit of a miss for me. It kind of tasted just like a melted mint chocolate chip ice cream in drink from. The normal Matcha Latte is good for the area, however it doesn't compare to MemoryLook or Damo (Damo questionable though as I believe their quality has gone down recently). I love the atmosphere of this cafe, but it suffers from the lack of seating during busier days. The same applies to parking. It's generally a struggle to find a spot, especially on the weekends. If it weren't for the space issue, my rating would be a true 5. The location is great otherwise. Right down the strip there's a dainty little places called The Inconvenience Store (closed on Tuesdays) that you have to check out. Overall extremely solid. In just terms of food and drink, it's one of the best in the Newport Beach/Costa Mesa area. I far prefer it over Lion & Lamb, MoonGoat, Kit, Nook, and Neat. Parking can be challenging to find, and while the space is relatively small, it feels quite busy. The ambiance is delightful, with plenty of natural light and large windows creating an open and inviting atmosphere. However, the high volume of people and chatter may not make it the ideal spot for focused studying. The service was impressively quick, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. While there was a small line extending out the door, this is primarily due to the register being positioned directly near the entrance, giving the impression of a longer wait than it actually is. I ordered the iced matcha latte which was exceptionally smooth, and I appreciated the variety of sweetener options available, including packets, liquid sugar, and honey. For those who prefer milk alternatives, note that there is a $1 charge. I recently stumbled across a hidden gem in Costa Mesa--Work in Progress Coffee and Wine. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The cashier was nice and patient with us, making the experience even better. The menu was simple and easy to navigate, which we appreciated. We decided to try the strawberry lime matcha and the mint matcha. The strawberry lime matcha was incredibly refreshing, perfect for a hot day. The mint matcha had a delightful taste, reminiscent of Andes candy--smooth and minty with just the right amount of sweetness. I rarely ever write reviews, but this coffee shop just made the worst drinks me and my friend has ever tried and we've been to plenty of coffee shops. We were so exited to try this place because we heard good things about it, but we're beyond disappointed! The drinks itself are beautiful however the taste is rancid. The cream tops are the only selling point of this coffee shop. The menus are hard to read, and when I asked the cashier how to properly read the menu he was rude and passive aggressive. The Matcha tastes like celery juice, and the coffee tastes nothing like vanilla when I asked for a vanilla latte? Maybe next time focus more on the drinks than the aesthetics, your aesthetics won't get you returning customers. read more

Older man with the grey hair and mustache that works the counter is a PERVERT. My girl friend and I were crossing the crosswalk to eat here and this guy was crossing too and had his eyes locked on her butt intensely staring for a good 30 seconds. I asked him what he was staring at, he looks up at me, then continues creepily staring at her until we cross the street. We get to Work in Progress, and this man comes walking in. I was scared that this creep was following us now, but then he walks behind the counter and starts taking orders. I couldn't believe he worked here... Stumbled onto this cool cafe with the family when we were walking around the camp. We all ordered the classic sando in different protein variations and the consensus is that these sandos are b o m b. c o m! My nephew is quite a picky eater but he devoured his turkey sandwich. The bread had the perfect amount of flavor and crunch and the ingredients were all so fresh. We also ordered an espresso tonic, matcha latte, and a vanilla mocha -- all really great. Was visiting a friend in Costa Mesa and we decided to check out this cute coffee shop she found on Instagram. This place is super cute! I ordered the match latte with oat milk and the breakfast burrito with bacon. Both were excellent! We both loved it so much we came back later that same day to have charcuterie and wine. Coffee is stellar here. The ambience is absolutely incredible for a nice sit down or if you want to do work while here. Only critique is that there isn't that much seating availability with backings to support your back. The service is good and friendly. Their restrooms are well kept and I recommend to anyone in the area that wants a study spot. However, it can get audible sometimes throughout the day. read more

The atmosphere is A+ -- from the décor to the baristas and customers -- It's a great place to get some work done as well as meet your friends for a drink (they also serve wine!).
