We celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary at The Capital Grille in Costa Mesa, and it truly made our special day even more memorable. When we arrived, our table was beautifully decorated with little red hearts and an anniversary card waiting for us. It was such a thoughtful touch and immediately made us feel special. Our server, Kevin, provided some of the best service I have ever experienced at any restaurant. He was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely made us feel like he wanted us to enjoy our anniversary. To help us celebrate, we were treated to two glasses of champagne and two pieces of cake, which was such a wonderful surprise. We ordered two of the $32 Plates. The chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful, with a sauce that complemented it perfectly without being too heavy. The steak, cooked medium, was absolutely delicious--so tender it practically melted in my mouth. The restaurant itself was very clean and elegant, with soft music playing in the background. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, making it the perfect place to enjoy an anniversary meal without feeling rushed. We are so happy we chose The Capital Grille for our 23rd anniversary. So, here I am, enjoying the ambience of fine dining and admiring the art surrounding the dining area and wonderful music playing in the background as I dine. Locsted on the corner on the second floor of the South Coast Plaza. There's plenty of parking near it. When I went theres a lot of construction on the exterior which made it look less then. But once your inside its nothing but opulence and class. You walk in on the first floor. If its your first time there, its kind of confusing as theres just a small room and a stairway to greet you. Go up the stairs and thats where the front desk people will meet you. We were here for a surgical joint infection webinar. So we had the entire back room reserved. Lots of bottles of wine. When you enter the room, the noise of the main dining room melts away. Its a really nice private room!! Customer service here is amazing. Lots of great wait staff. They were so on point with service. Because we were here for a meeting everything including alcohol (wine and cocktails and shots) were included. The food too was also included for attending the webinar. I dont think it was because it was "free" that thr food tasted so good. But oh my gosh the quality and the taste was simply top notch. The breads to begin with were really good. Then the appetizers were so good. We had their calamari, prosciutto wrapped mozzarella and lobster and crab cake. Each dish was decadent without being heavy. Tasted amazing. Really built your anticipation for dinner. Their wedge salad was extremely fresh and crunchy. Never had one before but if this is what salads are meant to taste like, I will be ordering more in the future! Tasted amazing. Almost acted like a palate cleanser. Entrees we had their porcini rubbed bone in ribeye in 15 year aged balsamic sauce and their pan seared sea bass. They were both so good!! Best steak I've had at a restaurant in a very long time. The crust was amazing. The sauce was to die for. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and it literally melted in your mouth. The sea bass was cooked perfectly as well. Well seasoned. Flaky. And just so good. The table had shareable sides including mash potatoes, lobster mac n cheese and grilled asparagus. The large chunks of lobster was amazing in the dish. Everything tasted great. I have been a long time customer of the capital grille and the generous pour event for years. This year was completely different than the past and sadly will be the last. The limit on the pour was not generous or worth the price. The food was average at best and for a nearly $300 dinner me and my husband were very disappointed. We split a Caesar salad and lobster crab cake. We ordered the bone in ribeye which came with a sauce we didn't order garlic sautéed spinach and potato au gratin. It has changed and it is no longer a fit for me. The service was good although the server kept referencing that it was our anniversary and we were celebrating my husband's birthday. The entrance to the restaurant is marked with signs, and they are doing mild construction/renovation outside. There is a staircase leading up to the hostess. Dimly lit and intimate ambiance, and there are windows to the bustling kitchen inside. The table was already decorated with a Happy Birthday sign and card. Now, the food! They offer a wide selection of both seafood and steak dishes. This is a pricey restaurant, but the portions are big. Complimentary bread basket was phenomenal! It had different types of warm bread (favorite one was the brown bread) with salted butter to pair with it. We got the kona-crusted NY strip, the porcini-rubbed ribeye and sea bass. Everything was cooked perfectly. My steak was a glistening medium rare, and I was definitely able to have leftovers due to the size. The brussels sprouts and parmesan truffle fries were excellent too. Brussel sprouts were crispy, and the fries were made to order, cripsy, and seasoned well. Overall, everything was 10/10. They even brought out a complimentary birthday dessert. It's rare to have excellent sides AND entrees, and I was so pleased with this meal. Our server checked in with us multiple times, and I did get that 'fine dining' experience. Every component had butter/fat, so it's not a light meal by any means, but it's good for a celebratory occassion. It came out to about $100 per person. My family and I have always been big fans of this restaurant, but unfortunately the last couple of visits have been disappointing. I do want to start by saying that the service has consistently been great--our server today was friendly and attentive, and we really appreciate that. However, the quality of the food doesn't seem to be what it used to be. Today we ordered the 33 oz Wagyu Tomahawk for $185. The price itself isn't the issue, but the portion size definitely didn't seem to match what was advertised. We were told it would be more than enough for three people, but by the end each person only ended up with about two slices. The flavor was just okay, and after a similar experience during our last visit in January, we left feeling unsatisfied again. After spending around $500, we're honestly considering ordering DoorDash because we're still hungry. We used to really enjoy coming here, so it's disappointing to feel like things have gone downhill over the past couple of months. Parmesan Truffle Fries: a must-order, although the recent addition of Duck Fat Fries definitely gives it a run for its money. Diane and I treated four family members and the significant others of two of our grandchildren to a Christmas celebration dinner here two days before Christmas, and it was quite a feast. My goal was to order a cross-section of appetizers and side dishes for the table, and let everyone select their own entree and soup or salad if they desired one or both types of starters. So we began with two orders of Shrimp Cocktail, one order of Fried Calamari, four Cups of French Onion Soup, one Spinach Pear Salad and one Wedge Salad. The shrimp in the Shrimp Cocktail were large and meaty; the Calamari golden and a little greasy; the onions in the French Onion Soup well caramelized and the broth covered by well-melted cheese. The two salads were large and featured fresh greens. Mains ranged from my order of medium-rare Seared Tenderloin with Butter Poached Lobster Tails to Honey Coated Double Cut Mint & Honey Lamb, with Bone In Kona Beef, Miso Butter Seabass, Sliced Filet, 10 oz. Filet Mignon, and Scallop and Lobster Risotto in between. My son raved about his lamb, and no one complained about their chosen entree, so I assumed that they each liked what they received. Choosing sides for the table, I ordered Grilled Asparagus, Lobster Mac 'N' Cheese, Truffle Fries, Roasted Mushrooms, and Potatoes Au Gratin. One might think that with two potato dishes already and one pasta side that sufficient starches had been ordered. But when I asked Diane if she wanted anything else, she asked for Sam's Mashed Potatoes as well. So that, too, was ordered, and there was precious little room left for bread and butter plates on our large circular table. I have long been a fan of The Capital Grille's Potatoes Au Gratin and Truffle Fries, and everything else I sampled was also well cooked and excellent in taste. Except for a complimentary dessert plate bestowed on one diner who was celebrating a December birthday, as full as we were everyone else passed on dessert. Service, too, by our principal server Michelle M. was smooth, quick, errorless, and very responsive. Understandably, this close to the winter holidays the capacious dining rooms were all packed with well-dressed diners, but the restaurant did not seem overcrowded, and its white linen tableclothed ambiance was upscale and classy. My husband and I decided to go for a last minute date night this past Friday, and luckily we were able to snag a spot through Yelp Reservations. Even though it's right next to the mall, once you step inside you forget you're looking out at a parking lot. The vibe inside is very dark and moody. It is all ambient lighting and elegant decor with these framed pictures everywhere, so it feels very intimate and upscale. It's the kind of place where you want to dress up a bit and grab a martini. Our server was great too, really attentive and kept our glasses full while checking in on us at all the right times. Food wise, we started with the French onion soup and truffle fries. The soup came out piping hot with a thick layer of melted, bubbly cheese on top, which was the highlight for me. The truffle fries were also solid, they were super crispy and had a good scent of truffle without being overwhelming. For the main event, we shared the 24oz bone in porterhouse. I asked for medium rare and they nailed the cook on it perfectly. It was a massive, juicy piece of meat. However, I have to be honest, even though everything was cooked correctly, nothing about the meal really wowed me. For a high class establishment at this price point, I was expecting a flavor profile that I could not just get anywhere else, but it felt a little standard. It is a beautiful spot for the atmosphere and the service is top notch, but the food did not quite have that extra spark to make me crave a second visit. We've been to other locations but this location is our go to since we traditionally do a little shopping first and end it with dinner. Our goal is to visit as many locations as possible. I usually will try a signature drink at different places but today I just had some sparkling water. For a business lunch today it was the perfect place to go. Shopping at the South Coast Plaza we decided to just eat at the mall and The Capital Grille was conveniently located at one of the wings! Just put ourselves on the waitlist and only waited about 5 mins. Was seated at the end near private rooms so it was quiet and felt more personal! Ordered quite a bit as usual, including the crab legs - perfect addition! The server also knew exactly how we wanted our orders served..gave the scallops in two plates, steak already cut, and everything arrived at the same time which I actually prefer over getting them over time! My wife and I met friends for dinner on Friday. We made reservations 6 days before on OpenTable for a table for 4 in the lounge. When we arrived, I was surprised the larger lounge tables were seated and that we were presented a 2 top with 2 additional settings and chairs. That really wasn't going to work and said as much to the young lady who tried to sweat us there. She made a comment and I remarked that we could just go downstairs for dinner. A minute later, another young lady appeared and asked if we would like to be seated in the dinning room. Though we love the feeling of the lounge, we accepted her offer. Tommie was our waiter in the dinning room and did I a superb job taking care of us. We opened with cocktails and ordered starters of calamari and prosciutto wrapped mozzarella. The drinks and starters were absolutely delicious! We each ordered something different for the main course. Our friends went for the lobster tail special and Wagyu & Wine while my wife and I opted for the dinner filet, mine Oscar style. Each dish was delicious and very well presented. It seems that TCG has changed their version of Oscar style as our last couple visits it was served sans asparagus! I have always looked forward to that bit, not sure as why the change, to have the guest order a side of asparagus? I came here for lunch and had excellent service. I thought all the wait staff were wonderful and attentive. It's a little old school vibe wise but I kind of love that and miss it from the usual restaurants we typically go to--I guess you can say it's very steakhouse vibes. lol! The food was also good! We had the calamari, which was a good portion size. The clam chowder and French onion soup came in small cups/bowls but they were also tasty. I got the porterhouse steak and thought it was well cooked (rare plus!) and enjoyed the meal. My favorite was surprisingly the sautéed spinach. Mashed potatoes and mushrooms were other great sides, but the spinach was somehow my fave. lol!! Anyways, lovely service. Good cocktail and wine selection. read more

Here for a weekend girls trip with my friend & I. Here's the rundown: Ambiance - very upscale, classy, old school steakhouse vibe. Had a reservation at 8pm & got seated fairly quickly. Service - upon getting seated, I swear nobody paid attention/served water/ greeted us for almost 15min. I understand it's a Friday night, but for a classy restaurant, you expect high quality service too! The server was very nice, but nothing from the service overall was extraordinary. Food - the restaurant offers fresh bread that was probably the best tasting thing on the menu.... We ordered a bone in ribeye, lobster Mac, mashed potatos, & brussel sprouts. The steak was chewy (we ordered a medium). The mashed potatoes literally tasted like nothing. Texture wasn't creamy, more watery. Brussel sprouts were the BIGGEST disappointment. Soggy, burnt bacon & TOO SWEET. Lobster Mac was literally Mac with 1 sliver of meat :(. For $200 you can go to elsewhere and probably have more fun! I do not recommend at all. read more

We spent a special anniversary here to celebrate our first date. Our server Elijah was so attentive and also very accommodating to our schedule because we were attending a play right after. The evening was pleasant as it always is and they even provided us with a celebration desert! We both ordered the sea bass and lobster bisque which were both delicious. I highly recommend! read more
