The overall gestalt is this is a sports bar. It is built around the central bar, it's got a ton (more than a dozen) big screen TVs, all turned to sports channels. They are on all four walls. It does make it a little bit noisy if you came for a regular meal. That said, it's almost like it started as a country cafe restaurant and grew into a sports bar. The menu actually offers typical Texas meals like chicken fried steak for less than they sell a burger. A restaurant in transition? I don't know... I wanted to see how they do with the classics so I ordered the chicken fried steak. The mashed potatoes are about 50% cheddar cheese. certainly edible without any other addition. The meat was good quality, tender, good flavor. Could have used some butter on the Mexican street corn. Overall a good value at 16 dollars. Non smoking. Happy hour from 4 to 7. read more

Fish Fry is our go-to on Friday's during Lent and the Fish-N-Chips pub entree is delicious. Thankfully they have it on the menu year round. You get your choice of sides and tater tots are a yummy option. The coleslaw is crunchy and creamy and the fish is to die for, you get three big giant battered white fish filets and it's plenty for two or three depending on your appetite. The shrimp cocktail sauce reminds me of my all time favorite Pete's Fish-n-Chips sauce back home (an institution in Phoenix) now I wish Woodson's had some fried shrimp too. I visited this restaurant since I was in the area one weeknight and I have had it on my list for a while. I initially thought it was related to the Fielding's restaurants in the Woodlands area but it has no relation. It's basically a sports bar with a kitchen, but apparently a big kitchen because they have a good size menu of burgers, sandwiches, comfort food, seafood, Italian food, salads, apps, pricy desserts, egg rolls, mac and cheeses, wings, and a healthy list of draft beers. I came in for the burger since I had read it was formerly a tri-blend of my 3 fav combinations of beef on a burger: chuck, brisket and short rib. I'm not sure if they're still doing the blended beef because the patty didn't taste like any previously blended burgers I've had before. When I ordered the burger it came out to my table about 4 minutes later. Not sure how they can pull this off for a patty that's 1/2 lb. At home it takes me at least 8 minutes. I went with the Texan specialty burger. This burger wasn't that good and was one that tasted best upon first bite, then progressively got worse as you eat more of it. I didn't finish it and eventually peeled off a lot of ingredients and bun by the end. They have a nice atmosphere, but I would try another menu item next time. I will likely visit the location closer to my house in Spring next time. read more

Great sports bar/pub going all in for the World Cup. Plenty of seating surrounded by TVs. Depending on how hungry you are there are lots of choices. Appetizers and full entrees like chicken fried steak. I went for the bang bang shrimp tacos. It comes with Mexican street corn but I opted for the onion rings instead. Full bar with lots of beer on tap. We visited early afternoon and it was pleasant but I bet when the games are on it is super loud. Happy hour specials from 4-7. The staff actually seemed super nice including our waitress. My kid enjoyed the kids wings. It comes with a dipping sauce and side (got the tater tots and they loaded the basket with them) as well as a kids drink. Some sides are a buck more but it's the ones that cost $4.99 instead of $3.99. I got the spinach artichoke dip which was good and chips were fresh. Service from Allison was 5*, easily accepting the off menu order for a salad topped with the shredded brisket that normally goes on a sandwich. The $alad was very $mall, but with quality ingredient$. Brisket was ok. A bit stringy for being a signature item, and in Texas you'd better serve better. Guest wanted brisket egg rolls and we split an order before I recalled they are horrible. Wanted to go for a good comfort/gastropub food and found Woodson's was not far from my hotel, plus the pics / reviews were very favorable. I sat at the bar and was pleasantly greeted. I checked out the craft beer selections and eventually opted to stay with water. The atmosphere was very inviting, and bar stools were probably one of the most comfortable I have ever sat on. It was Kristy's service that pushed the experience to an even higher level. She was attentive, kind, positive, upbeat, and she made my friend and I feel like friends she'd known for years. Delicious comfort food in a clean but dark, very casual sports bar atmosphere. I had the Woodson Burger, which was a yummy mouthful of beef, mac and cheese, and fried onion strings. SO GOOD. I couldn't decide between fries and tots, so I got half and half, and both were pretty good. The fries had a nice crispy texture but the tots could have been crispier. The table shared the queso (the tortilla chips seemed a tad stale,) and one of the creative "egg rolls," which was savory and filling. Our server was friendly but on the inattentive side. Saw Woodson's on the way to try out another restaurant and made a mental note to come back and give them a try. Glad that we did. They have some really good food. My wife ordered the Philly; a house shaved NY Strip steak with peppers, onions, queso all on a hoagie roll. My wife was thrilled and absolutely loved her sandwich. I went with The Texan; 1/2 lb patty with lettuce, tomato, pickle, bacon cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce and stacked with onion rings. This was one big and tasty burger which I really enjoyed. The fries were also hot a crispy which really added to the meal. We ordered a couple of beers to go with our meal from what we thought was a good selection of craft beer only to find out that Woodson's did not have any dark beers. Not Stouts. No Porters. How very disappointing! We do like an IPA, Hazy or a good fruity beer but I am a BIG fan of dark beers. Real men drink dark beer! The wait staff was friendly and did a great job of taking care of us.
