This is a great laid-back spot, especially for families with young kids. There's plenty of space for the kids to run around and play while the adults relax and enjoy themselves. It's one of those places where you can spend a few hours without feeling rushed. The drink selection is excellent, with a good variety of options that make it easy for everyone to find something they enjoy. The atmosphere is casual, welcoming, and perfect for gathering with friends or family. My only suggestion would be to rotate the food trucks more often. The food options are good, but it would be nice to see more variety and new choices on a regular basis. It had pepperoni, sausage, cremini mushrooms, red onion, bell pepper, tomato sauce & mozzarella cheese. So I absolutely loved the idea of this! This concept of a food truck run venue is genius, and the area that is in was kept very clean of trash. I did not partake in the bar aspect so I cannot really comment on that aspect, but it truly is a great idea. Plus, the food trucks are pretty quick with getting your order to you. My one negative unfortunately would be the pepperoni pizza from the pizza truck. It was very VERY oily and the pepperoni that they used reminded me of the type that's on frozen baguette style pizzas. Sauce was great, dough great, but I haven't seen that much oil since I used to get pizza at lunch in high school. So I did have some stomach issues, and for the price I didn't want to waste it. The Birria sliders though were so delicious! Definitely would love to come back and try some of the other options! I even think they can fit in another truck! Worth the stop! read more

Because this is the ideal food truck park setup. --- --- --- Though I grew up in the Houston area, I've been away for the past 15 years and really never spent anytime in this part of the metro. We just moved to Woodforest and I will admit, I was a bit pessimistic about the food scene being decent when we're so far out in the burbs. But a place like Deacon Baldy's makes me feel like we're gonna be just fine when it comes to finding cool spots. To sum it up, Deacon Baldy's is a small food truck park (about 5 trucks), with a covered area that includes seating for hundreds of people and about 40, mostly local beer taps on draft, as well as a full-service bar. It's awesome. And so far, I've eaten at a couple of the trucks and Wiches on Wheels was absolutely unreal. Thanks Deacon Baldy's for being such an awesome spot so close to our new 'hood! read more

One of our favorite places to hangout as a family. As parents we really enjoy all the food options from the food trucks along feeling like we aren't disturbing others while the kids scream and have fun in the laid back atmosphere. There are typically at least four food trucks offering pizza, bbq, mexican and american food options. Deacon Baldy's also keeps a wide variety of beer in tap. Don't be afraid to order a mixed drink either. The margarita is pretty good though slightly pricey. There is a cooler for water if you need to keep the kids, or yourself, hydrated. I think this is my new favorite place! I'm very indecisive when it comes to food. I want to taste EVERYTHING! Well, if you come with a group of people you can taste a little bit of everything because they give you large portions. Dizzy Pies, Twisted Chefs, BBQ Godfather, Wiches on Wheels and Shake You Up were always there when I went. (I think I went 4 times this visit.) The BBQ place was hardly ever open when I went but other than that all the other places were open. Twisted Chef was awesome and the owners were super nice. You have to try the Greek Fries they're delicious! The Fried Mushrooms were my favorite! The batter is so good and they give you a bunch. I got Ranch instead of the Tzatziki sauce for dipping. The Gyro, Falafel Gyro and Philly Gyro were also good so just pick one, you'll like it. I think they have a new guest food truck every weekend. When I went the first time, they had the Brazilian Joe's food truck and it was delicious! I ordered the Hotty Sliders and they were so good. Apparently, there's a restaurant too. The Bright Relish hot dog truck was there another time and the American Lobster truck another time. I forgot what the other guest food truck was. The Connecticut Lobster Roll and the French Fries were really good. Pricey but good. Wiches on Wheels is usually always open and their burgers are AMAZING!!! The El Guapo was delicious and huge! They also have some really good Mac n' Cheese and "Sidewinder" Fries. I really loooved the Shake You Up truck. The milkshakes were awesome!!! Definitely try the Banana Pudding shake and the Strawberry Supreme. They're really filling so keep that in mind when you order food because I usually can't eat all my food if I order a shake too. This past weekend the Nacho Food Truck was there and I went to it twice. Apparently, they're usually off of I 45 and FM 1488. You can't miss them because they have lights all around it and it's really colorful. They're known for their Queso Birria. It's a corn tortilla filled with cheese, birria, purple onions, cilantro and then fried in Birria Broth. They give you Birria Broth to dip them in.(see pics) They're delicious! This is the place to be on a beautiful day. Grab a table, a drink from the bar with their massive selection of beers and mixed drinks, and then place an order at one of the many food trucks. I got a margarita pizza from the pizza truck. OMG!!! I ate the whole pizza. It was that good. I was impressed by the variety of food served at each food truck. You can grab a menu at the table or check out the menu at each food truck. Tacos, burgers, and pizza OH MY!!! They even have vegan and vegetarian options at some of the trucks. Oh and I forgot to mention BBQ. There is literally something for everyone even the picky eaters. To top it all off you have big screen televisions, killer music, and it is dog friendly. Known by locals to call police on patrons. I've been here several times each time assuming it would be better than the last and never was. Bartenders aren't very friendly. Been pulled over twice for no real reason after leaving here. A fun concept and good experience all around. The "Bald Monday" concept worked well for Neptune Subs down in Seabrook so of course celebrating the fashion statement for Britney Spears and others works up here too. While the taps can change over time (someone recently took issue with a yelp review I wrote in 2009 so obviously things can change over time) and the food trucks can change over time, here is a snapshot of a sample Friday lunch experience shortly after winning in court down in Conroe at the Montgomery County courthouse. There were four food trucks present pulled around the perimeter of the food truck portion of the venue to the left, opposite the bar portion of the venue: (1) Cousins Maine Lobster of the Shark Tank fame with all of the extensive branding obvious on the truck and the lobster trap flair on the ground; (2) a Greek place housed in a plain blue truck with only a menu on the window and no other flair; (3) a Viet fusion place with slightly more flair than the Greek place and at least a sandwich board ground sign set up with the menu outside the truck; and (4) a burger place with a friendly man hanging out the window welcoming us to Deacon Baldy's. The food trucks are out in the elements so there is just a little overhang at best. Meanwhile the bar is under the roofing fixture so there is shade, the breeze blows through since there are no walls (just the ceiling fixture) and there are many fans blowing trying to keep things cool as this time of the year everything is getting predictably summery. There is a huge chalkboard menu above and behind the bar that you can review. There are some nonalcoholic drinks and some mixed drinks with liquor in addition to the more beer-centric focus the menu and venue seem to take. The beers are extensively local and small brewery options, not the ones that ABi and other megacorps have acquired in an effort to declare war on the small family owned ones. The gentlesir preferred the Warimono Cherry Belgian Tripel from New Republic since it was the highest ABV at the lowest price, speaking truth to the gentlesir's preferences when selecting the Uncle's cough syrup at a local saloon. New Republic is a small brewery out of College Station. Besides Bobby Brooks it is one of the only good things to come out of College Station. (There are only three things my kids could do that would disappoint me and one of them is attend college at TAMU.) The Cousins Maine Lobster was a mixed bag of a treat to be able to experience. I earned the ROTD for Maine-ly Sandwiches on Shepherd shortly after it opened that second location. I am a reliable customer for a lobster roll there. I feel like I am cheating on them. But sometimes you gotta stray and see what the mysterious neighbor let you do with that mouth. As a New Englander in exile (no more snow shoveling) it is my sworn duty to investigate lobster and lobster accessories available in my new part of the country. This includes checking out Cousins Maine Lobster even though it is a national chain; while Maine-ly is a local chain with two locations and one truck. The flair set-up outside the truck was cute. The kawaii lobster caught up in the trap is all of us. [Muffled trap music plays off in the distance] The lobster roll itself can be prepared one of two ways - the wrong way (Connecticut) served warm with lemon and butter - or the right way (Maine) chilled with a Shania Twain-sized helping of mayo. Both options on a flaky New England style roll, both ringing up around $15.75. You need the tots if you have ever seen Napoleon Dynamite so that's about another fiver. You pay at the window and they give you a buzzer. If you are smart you make your food order first then go get your first round of beers. There is enough time to get deep in your first round of beer to enjoy it before the food will come out. If you intend to drink like the Bukowski angel on your shoulder tells you to, get two beers so you don't need to leave your food alone and go back to order again. They buzz you on the buzzer when the food is ready so you go back to the truck and git it. Regarding the gentlesir's tots: there seemed to be only one ketchup bottle in rotation since we were given one when we picked up our food and shortly after the girl from the food truck sauntered over and asked for it back, then walked it over to another person who just got their food. Tots need the elixir of ye gods, ketchup as you know it, so this situation might be managed better since some of us own t-shirts that say "I put ketchup on my ketchup" to announce to the world we are not filthy casuals when it comes to that kind of stuff. This is a place that is desitively worth the drive whether you are coming over from just Conroe or further out. You got your foods, your beers, dogs are welcome, and it's all in a nice environment to hang out whether it's just a beer as you drink your lunch or you are getting the full spread from one (or all) of the four food trucks. read more

Super busy, super loud, great food, great beers, dog friendly! We stopped by with our dachshunds on a Saturday evening for some BBQ and found the seating area PACKED and the kid area overflowing. Adults, kids, and dogs all seemed happy, relaxed, and like they were having a great time. Deacon's usual four trucks were set up and ready to rock along with a Thai food and gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches - so many delicious smells in the air, but we knew we were here for the Godfather. When deacons first opened up, I was excited not only about the opportunity for a place to sit and try a good craft beer, but the ability to have several food trucks available. Also was very exciting and enticing. It's located down 105 heading west toward Magnolia, and unless you're looking on the map, it could be hard to spot because it's in the middle of several different places to shop and eat at. The parking is difficult to say the least, especially during peak hours or peak events. That used to be easy to park along the street when it first opened but now there's a lot more that's been built up around there so expect to may be able to search for further parking or wait. There is plenty of outdoor seating as this is an outdoor venue that is covered very nicely with the pavilion except for the tables that are in between the food trucks which is on Astroturf. The food trucks are parked there permanently. There is usually four or five of them, but if my memory serves me correctly, there's pizza options and barbecue options and sandwich options and one or two others that I haven't tried before the beers that are available are for the most part small brewery craft type beers. The service is always friendly and there is a wide variety of drinks. Good place to gather with friends. If you're in the Conroe area I would highly recommend Deacon Baldy's. read more
