Wonton Guy packs a tasty punch with their authentic HK Wontons and noodles. Their wontons were huge - packed with 3 shrimp and very tasty especially in the red vinegar. Their beef brisket came with a tendon which was also super tasty if you don't mind that part of a cow. Service was speedy, smooth and superb - would recommend if you are passing by or in town and craving some good wontons and egg noodles.
I love wonton guys. This is the best wontons soup I've ever had!!! I love the egg noodles combo with the wontons, dumplings and beef. It can't get better than this!
Delicious surprise. I had the wonton and beef brisket soup noodles with egg noodles. My spouse had the beef brisket and pig knuckles soup noodles, both were very good. The broth was full of flavor the wontons were packed with shrimp. I give them 5 stars. The service was attentive we were seated right away the food came out quickly and had everything we needed. The place was full at 1:30 on a Saturday. The ambiance is true authentic Chinese like home small and clean. The server was very friendly.
An absolute gem in Edison! Wonton Guys is located in a small strip mall on NJ-27. There are only a few parking spots out front, but plenty more in the back. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the no-frills vibe with Canto-pop playing in the background instantly transported me back to Hong Kong. The food is phenomenal. Their shrimp wontons are easily some of the best I've ever had--massive, flavorful, and packed with shrimp. You also absolutely must try their dry noodles (lo mein). I had the chili tomato sauce with shredded pork, and it was pure nostalgia; it tasted exactly like what I grew up eating as a kid. The curry fish balls are also a standout--plump, bouncy, and perfectly seasoned. We didn't get a chance to try the pork knuckles or beef brisket this time, but they looked amazing, so we'll definitely be back for those. If you're looking for authentic Hong Kong noodles, this spot hits all the right marks
Came here a couple weeks ago for lunch with work place proximity associate. there's a plenty of parking in the back shared with other restaurants. it's probably very busy during dinner time. Limit items in the me u but you can have different variations. you can have soup with or without noodles, wonton braised brisket, pork knuckle. I opted to try all three in a noodle soup. next time I'd probably back up for a large dish of the pork knuckle or brisket and a bowl of noodle soup with Wonton. service is fast. small cash discount.
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away (okay, maybe not *THAT* far)... there was a tiny noodle shop serving up bowls of soup that made every belly happy... If you're in NJ and craving Hong Kong-style wonton noodle soup, head to Wonton Guy in Edison. It's a no-frills local gem tucked away in a tiny strip mall off Route 27, with a few parking spots out front and more in the back. The space is small (only 10 tables!) and nothing fancy, but the value is hard to beat. It's always busy, and after you take your first slurp of the soup, you'll get why. Service is fast, so the tables turn over quickly. I was able to grab a seat when I walked in on a Saturday evening. The menu is simple and offers 3 main options: 1.) noodle soup with toppings 2.) soup with toppings (no noodles) 3.) lo mein with toppings served with soup on the side From there, you pick your noodle type (egg, flat rice, vermicelli), as well as up to 3 toppings (wontons, dumplings, beef brisket, etc.). There are also a few side dishes like shredded pork in chili tomato sauce, deep fried fish skin, and curry fish balls. They even sell some items raw like wontons, noodles, dumplings, and sliced beef. And the best part is... the prices are very affordable! Most of the dishes are around $11-$16. My order: *Two Toppings (wonton + beef brisket) Noodle Soup [$12.75] - Where do I begin? Every single part of this meal SLAPPED. The wontons were MUMBO JUMBO and generously filled with fresh, plump shrimp that were sweet and juicy. The noodles were soft and springy. The beef brisket was SO tender with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. And the broth? Super rich, aromatic, and savory. It's made of shrimp skin, pork bone, dried flounder fish, dried shrimp, and dried monk fruit, but it doesn't taste fishy at all. Each table is stocked with condiments like vinegar, homemade chili oil, and soy sauce to customize your soup. The chili oil packs some SERIOUS HEAT, so watch out. This was hands down one of the best noodle soups I've had. I was sad when I finished it :-( *Hong Kong-style Milk Tea [$6] - I really enjoyed this! The black tea was bold and strong--almost too strong for me, but the milk balanced it out nicely. I only wish it had boba! Everything tasted authentic. Quick backstory: The owner comes from a family with GENERATIONS of experience making wontons and running noodle shops in Hong Kong. He grew up there and brought those family traditions to his own restaurants in Toronto... and now Edison. All those years of experience clearly show in his food. The broth is simmered overnight, and the wontons are freshly prepared every morning. No shortcuts here--just decades of tradition, skill, and a whole lot of love in every bowl. Ugh, I wish I lived closer because I'd be a regular. It's hard these days to find a place that REALLLLLLY delivers a memorable meal that's both tasty, reasonably priced, and served in generous portions. If you're within driving distance and debating whether it's worth the trip--DON'T! Wonton Guy is absolutely worth a visit, even if it's just once. I drove an hour to try it, and I still think about those wontons all the time... no joke LOL.
We came here for a late lunch on a Saturday and there were still a decent amount of people eating despite the late afternoon. Service was quick nonetheless and the server was super friendly - he was great to talk to! Menu had a good amount of dishes and we shared everything for the most part. Wow what a treat. Tucked away in a strip mall is a place serving delicious traditional hong kong (?) style noodle soup. The shrimp wontons were humungous (multiple shrimp per wonton) and the dace fish ball my friend said were just like her grandmother would get them in hong kong, truly home-style/made. The noodle soup was savory but light like a consume. The chili oil was quite spicy. Small-medium size interior. Quick service. Larger parking in the rear.
Excellent, friendly and very traditional Hong Kong style of taste. The server speaks fluent English and recommends us with this dish. I highly recommended to everyone. Parking is in the back. It is very easy to find.
Stopped by for lunch here and it was excellent! The parking in the front was tight, but there were plenty of spaces in the rear. We ordered a wonton & beef noodle soup, curry fishballs, and the steamed vegetable. The highlights were the wontons obviously and the fishballs. The wontons were massive, with multiple shrimp inside each, really impressive. The curry fishballs were delicious, I loved mixing the noodle in the sauce. Overall it was a great meal, simple and delicious!
Chinese noodle restaurant @ Edison, NJ We used to come here for a hearty bowl of the noodle soup but the taste of the wonton dumpling soup has been changed. The dumplings no longer had shitake mushroom inside and the soup was not clear and was very salty. The server didn't greet us properly and was not friendly. The restaurant was also very cold inside. It appears that the ownership might have changed.
Went to Wonton Guy for lunch on a Saturday. It's located in a strip mall, and the parking lot is hard to get in and out of since you're backing out directly into Route 27. It's a small restaurant, gives vibes similar to a Chinese takeout joint, but with authentic wonton noodle soups. I got the wonton noodle soup with wontons, dumplings, beef brisket, and egg noodles. It was decent, especially for NJ, but nowhere near as good as going to Chinatown. At least they're quick, friendly, and have fair prices.
We walked to Wonton guy after doing some light shopping in the Hmart plaza. It's right along route 27, so it's in a great location. The inside is very no frills and that function over fashion mindset was felt throughout the experience. There are only ten tables inside and meals come out pretty quickly. So despite its size, we didn't need to wait for a seat. I had the three topping noodle soup, with egg noodles, dumplings, and sliced beef. Digging in, you can immediately tell this is Chinese comfort food through and through. Nothing fancy, but it's a large portion of food, for a very good price. Whereas most Japanese ramen restaurants tend to skimp on proteins and focus on an aesthetic meal, you won't find that here. You can come hungry, and leave satisfied. The broth was a lighter and simpler broth, and I felt the same way about the noodles. The sliced beef had good flavor, but I found it to be a bit too chewy. The dumplings were filled with shrimp and were definitely the star of the dish. Altogether, I enjoyed my experience, but I would say the restaurant is best suited as a quick, satisfying meal of value and convenience rather than something you would actively seek out.
I ordered beef brisket with one topping on soup as a pick up order. The menu indicates this is selection C8 at $16.25. I was charged $17.75 not sure why but when I went to pay with my card he said the minimum was $20 so I ordered a $2 soda to bring the balance to $19.75. I was so disappointed when I went back to my office expecting this delicious meal all the reviews rave about. Instead I got piece after piece of fat and two small pieces of brisket. I'm all for layering of fat on my brisket but I counted 5 large pieces of fat and very little meat. Pictures don't lie. The plus was that the broth was tasty and the shrimp dumplings were juicy and flavorful. I might give this place another shot but there are so many options in the area I probably won't be back. We order their signature wonton noodle with beef brisket, curry fishballs and choy sum. The curry fishball sauce is very thick and has a strong fragrant. The choy sum is not over cooked and has nice crunch to it. Their signature wonton noodle comes with 3 ginormous wontons and the soup base is very clean. Overall highly recommend this place if you love wonton noodles!! read more

Being a native of Hong Kong and super picky with wonton noodle soup, this place doesn't disappoint! Their wontons are gigantic, shrimps are fresh, noodles are al dente, and the soup tastes legit. Don't miss their milk tea too - it tastes like home! The owner and servers here are really nice and efficient. Every time we come here, we'd get a whole bunch of stuff to go! read more

Admittedly, I am usually unsure if I am eating authentic Chinese food or Chinese-American food. Between the rich history lesson in the front of the menu, and the flavors and textures I experienced throughout my meal, I had no doubt that I had enjoyed an authentic meal the night I dined at Wonton Guy. I enjoyed reading about the roots of Wontons in southern China, I also appreciated the explanation of the process they take to make the wontons and the soup base. In the menu I read that the soup base is an important part of enjoying wontons, and has the special and essential ingredient of dried flounder fish. I was a little nervous about this because I really do not enjoy seafood, but the menu assures that the dried flounder adds a delicious aroma that is not at all fishy. I had an open mind and was delighted to taste that the menu rang true! No fishy taste at all, only a pleasant soup base. I ordered the Two Toppings Lo Mein with Beef Brisket and Dumplings with the flat rice noodle. This is very different from the lo mein you get at Chinese-American restaurants. This lo mein is still in a soup base. I added the chili oil that is provided on each table and dug in. The chili oil really complimented the dish and took it to the next level. The beef brisket was so tender and perfect- I highly recommend adding beef brisket to whatever dish you choose to get! There was also cabbage included and it added a nice crunch to the dish and I appreciated having some green! The dumplings were very good, as mentioned before I am not a huge seafood person and a large portion of the filling is shrimp but that is one seafood I do enjoy. The filling in the dumpling was very generous!! I didn't taste or see any pork in the filling but because of the amount in the dumpling I assume it was there. The staff was very helpful in answering any questions we had and they were friendly. The restaurant was clean and upon entering you can see into the kitchen. Even though the kitchen is kind of open to the dining room, we stayed very cool in the air conditioned room, on a 95 degree day! read more
Good place for wonton noodles. I still prefer the Chinatown version, but since this place is closer and doesn't require crossing the river, it's a good alternative. The place looks small from the outside, but there are many seats available, so there's no wait to get seated, even though it was lunchtime on Saturday. The service was friendly and quick. The noodle was decent. The egg noodle wasn't appropriately cooked; it's a bit on the hard side. The shrimp dumpling was good with a nice filling. The brisket was good, but not enough; I prefer the version in Chinatown, NYC. The soup has a strange sweetness, as if sugar had been added to it. Overall, it was okay. I would go back again, if I want to get wonton noodle soup without going to NYC. You should check this place out if you want to get wonton noodle soup without crossing the river from NJ. One more information to add is that they offer a 3% discount if you pay in cash; the server will ask for cash instead of a credit card. read more
Want fast good service & good food? This is where its at! Food is affordable & doesnt break the bank! They have a few tables but people are in and out! Theres alot of people getting take out! It's one of the few places that offers this kind of noodles and flavor. A good alternative to ramen & its not as salty)! So good! read more

Happy Wednesday Adventurers! I was able to try this place out via a Yelp drop in event. I tried two different days before finally being able to try out the food. This was a minimum purchase event but it was basically a BOGO type deal. I ordered the same thing to go which was perfect for the cold weather temps. The first day I went was around lunch time and there were at least 8 people waiting, ended up coming back the next day at opening (11 AM). As soon as I walked in there were already 5 tables seated (It's only about 15 tops at most). There is front parking and additional parking in the back--though that fills up fairly quickly. You can enter through the back or the front which is really cool. The menu is straightforward and very simple--4 types of noodles, 5 toppings, and variations of the same dish. I ordered the wontons, dumplings, vermicelli noodles, and sliced beef. I added veggies, I kinda wish I tried the fried fish skin, I saw a lot of people adding it to the soups and it looked appetizing. The broth is on the softer side of flavor, but still really good. I enjoyed the dumplings and wontons but they don't cut the shrimp for them so you're biting into a huge piece of meat. The beef was really good, I think it made the dish more flavorful. I did notice that this was a spot where most patrons come in eat quickly and leave, not much sitting around. The turn around was really quick while I sat there which is pretty refreshing since some people will sit for hours with no concept of time. I'd say stop in--early--enjoy a hot bowl of wonton, dumplings, and noodles and go on your merry way. Oh! that service was efficient and really kind at explaining everything to me. The wontons here are YUUUUUGE. like two shrimps rolled into one wonton. Came here for an early dinner around 5pm with no wait and this place did not disappoint. I got the beef brisket wonton rice (haw) noodle and devoured it in five mins flat. We also tried the choy sum vegetable side that comes steamed with oyster sauce. A classic staple. The hot chili oil on the table is , a little bit on the spicier side but I ain't no punk B. So good we ordered two more to go which I got the regular egg noodle and I think that was better just because it's the OG classic way. Will be back again! read more
Came here for take out and ordered the lo mein with their braised beef and wontons, soup with wontons, dumplings and sliced beef and a side of curry fish balls. The lo mein was not your typical American Chinese take out lo mein. It is much lighter and simpler in flavor. You get to choose what type of noodles you want and what toppings you want. I chose the flat noodles with braised beef and wontons. The braised beef was tender and similar to other braised beefs that I've had with flavors of star anise and cinnamon. The wontons were the star here...they were huge, flavorful and packed with shrimp with a silky wrapper. The noodles themselves were fine. There was not really a sauce but it came with soup on the side. The soup with wontons, dumplings and sliced beef was very good. The soup itself tasted clean and flavorful. The dumplings were also very flavorful like the wontons but I believe these were predominantly filled with pork. The sliced beef was flavorful and tender. The curry fish balls had a lot a flavor. The fish balls tasted like typical fish balls but the curry that they used tasted more spiced than your typical Chinese curry which I enjoyed. Overall I thought this place was really good. The wontons and dumplings are some of the best I've had. The braised beef and sliced beef are also very good and flavorful. Next time I'd probably opt for the noodle soup rather than the lo mein or dry noodles since it was a little lacking in flavor for me. The person taking my order was also very friendly. read more

Food: good portion however I personally felt the broth and wontons were on the slightly saltier side. Service: we were told a 30 minute wait but we ended up only waiting 5 minutes for Sunday dinner. The space is fairly small but people were in and out of the restaurant. The food also came out soon after we ordered. It seemed like everything was prepared beforehand and just simply combined based on your topping and noodle choice. read more

Thankful a Yelp event introduced us to this place. Now, we can't get enough. It's in a strip mall and it's nothing fancy but we like it so much. The value is unmatched. The flavors are on point. We love the early hours because they work for Sunday brunch. And we like the quick, friendly service. We got there 10 minutes after opening and it was packed so make sure you get there early or you'll have to wait. read more
It doesn't get more authentic than this! While Wonton Guy is quite far from where I live, I often find myself craving it just enough to make that 30 minute drive to get myself a bowl of delicious noodles. My favorite is the traditional wonton noodle soup with egg noodles but I like to add the beef brisket. The soup is so flavorful and has so much depth. The egg noodles aren't made in house but are cooked to a great bouncy texture. I love that the wontons are overstuffed too. I also really like the curry fish balls and fried fish skins as they complement the noodles well and also is a great snack before the bowl comes. The wait is never too long even when they get super packed on weekends and the food always comes out super fast. Highly recommend! read more
Love hot, freshly made soups of all types, especially of the Chinese variety, so when I read reviews for Wonton Guy I was intrigued. Would WG's potage be as good as I enjoy at home? It was worth a drive from Bucks to find out. The answer was a split score. The wonton and dumpling were very good - loaded with shrimp, pork and other fillings. Each was a heavy, dense lift that needed a few bites to consume. Definitely worthy of note. On the other hand, the liquid portion of the bowl left something to be desired. Ours seemed to be chicken stock base with a fist of rice noodles that continue to absorb the extremely hot soup until it occupied nearly the entire bowl. They were bland and uninteresting compared to the big boy wonton/dumpling. Tossed in a spoonful of chili sauce to up the flavor ante, which did the trick. Still, I wasn't compelled to finish the slurping due to the continued expansion of the noodles and less than memorable soup foundation. The floor plan has a small dining area in front (10 tables?), with view of the kitchen in back. Service was okay, but laissez faire. Final verdict - The soup at home is better than Wonton Dude, but he might consider selling the wonton dry (or maybe he does already). Three steaming Stars. read more

Overall Rating: 9.5/10 Curry Fish Balls: Cooked exceptionally. Has a nice kick to it. Keep the sauce to dip other foods in it. Really good with the wontons. Two Toppings with Noodle Soup (Wontons and Beef Brisket): Noodles cooked perfectly. Wontons are giant with about 2-3 shrimps per wontons. Beef brisket cooked to perfection and breaks apart like butter. Throw some chili oil in and it's perfect. read more

I'd give this place a 3.8/5. There isn't many Cantonese wonton places in Edison, and this was my first time having wonton noodles in so long. The soup separate from the noodles is classic, and their flavor profile was on point. It was an affordable, nostalgic lunch. There isn't much seating though, nor parking at the front. read more

Legit Hong Kong cuisine says this Hong Kong native. Service was speedy and friendly from the entire staff. Food was 100% authentic for HK taste. Wonton noodle soup with beef brisket was delicious. The wontons were bouncy and fresh. Broth was savory and delicious. Noodles were the exact texture expected for this classic HK dish. Wontons were giant size - something I didn't know has become a more modern HK style! The beef was fork tender and a must try. Curry fish balls were fantastic. Made me think of my childhood eating these on a stick from a street vendor. Great quality. Great value. Great trip down memory lane for me. read more

Authentic Hong style wonton place with fast service and great food. Arrived here asking noon on a Saturday afternoon and waited around 5 minutes for a table. Once seated, we were quickly given tea and our menus. We all ordered the wonton noodles with egg noodles and curry fish balls. The curry on the fish balls was so rich and creamy, I wish I had some naan to do into the leftover sauce. The wontons were very big and filled with shrimp. Took about 4 bites to eat the wonton! I did find them a tad on the salty side though. Loved the noodles, they were bouncy and cherry at the same time. Service was the fastest ever! If you are looking for somewhere quick and easy, this is the place. Parking in the front is very tight but there is additional parking behind the building, which I recommend. Getting out of the front parking spots is a bit dangerous. read more

Came here during August 2023, as I was really craving wonton and/or beef stew noodle soup. I ordered: - Wonton and beef stew noodle soup combo: wontons were huge and delicious (alot of shrimp), and the beef stew was tasty and tender. - A small simple side dish of greens: LOVED the size, and was perfect as I always like to eat and see some greens. - curry fish balls: I love curry fish balls. Like, I can't pass by them without eating them. I dipped my beef stew chunks in the leftover curry sauce - YUM! Very happy to have found this place. read more
Wow! This is a must dine in restaurant! The food comes out super hot and delicious. We all got the 3 toppings with our noodle. Everything looked good and we wanted to try all. My friends and I even finished our soups since it was that good. Very small shop but it's a quick in and out meal. Reasonable prices. There's parking in the front or back of the restaurant.
