I don't spend a lot of time in Brooklyn, so I actually had no idea that the Dekalb Market Hall was a thing until I started zooming in/out on Google Maps. This sounded like the best idea for our group of 4 - we could all get whatever we wanted to eat without having to compromise on one cuisine! Jokes on us, 3/4 of us ended up getting food at Hainan Jones. I had a grilled chicken bowl from Wiki Wiki and we also had boba from Tea Makers. Everything at Hainan Jones was great. The bowl at Wiki Wiki was really good. The boba was just fine. You really can't go wrong with Dekalb Market Hall, there are literally so many options. When we were leaving, we realized there was an entire whole section that we had not even realized was there! A plus is that there are bathrooms inside so you can use it before you leave.

When I ordered delivery it was delivered in a Wonder bag and I wondered.. how good could the Mexican food be as part of a food hall? Wonder no more.. it was quite delicious. I was in the mood for a burrito with all the fixins and I was able to build my own: black beans, rice, sour cream, corn salsa, pickled red onions, shredded cheese and chicken. I also was in the mood for nachos but just chips and guacamole on the menu and queso!! I ordered both small sides.. The delivery came on time and packaged with care, utensils and napkins included. The burrito was huge.. I ate half and saved the other half for another day. It was fresh and delicious. The chips were also fresh and that side of queso and guacamole were scrumptious. I also cheated with their delicious Hungry Gnome Chocolate Chip Cookie:semi sweet chocolate and sea salt. It lasted me four days.. well I made it last four days! It was a delicious "don't feel like cooking meal". Side note: The Wonder Bag food delivered in was nice size and reusable. Wonder no more and order your next Mexican feast from Lime Salt.

It was the worst pad Thai I ever had. I ate a quarter of it threw the rest out. It was so disappointing. I was craving a pad Thai so badly. There were no no bean sprouts in the dish, and the taste was awful. I promise you I'm not a picky, eater or some gourmand who demands a 5 star experience for a take out order for lunch. But this was too much. I paid close to $22 plus a a tip for something I couldn't eat. You e been warned.

I really enjoyed my meal at Hainan Jones and would be happy to revisit this DeKalb Market Hall spot…read moreor any of their other locations. They specialize in Singaporean Hainanese chicken rice, and since it was my first time, I opted for the signature mixed chicken set to try both the poached and roasted varieties. The chicken is served over fragrant rice cooked in chicken stock and comes with steamed Asian greens topped with fried garlic, sliced cucumbers, and a light cabbage soup. It also includes a few dipping sauces, like a lime ginger chili and a dark soy/oyster sauce. I also ordered a soy egg, which was unique; the flavor was prevalent without being overwhelming and it was topped with crispy garlic. The chicken meal was delicious, well-balanced, and felt nourishing. The poached chicken was incredibly tender, juicy, and smooth--light in the best way possible--while the roasted chicken provided a nice textural contrast with the skin, even if the skin slipped off occasionally. While I had a slight preference for the poached, I'd still probably order the mixed set again because both were great. I even found myself dipping the chicken and rice into the light broth for extra flavor. The sauces were good, though a bit heavy for my personal taste. While it isn't the cheapest fast-casual option and they don't offer tap water (meaning you'll have to buy a bottle), I highly recommend it and sticking to the chicken dishes they are known for. I couldn't finish all the rice, so it's definitely a filling portion.

Last night we decided it was time she try Korean food, and specifically he wanted to choose a Bib Gourmand restaurant. We booked this reservation the same day, and watched spots get taken as we booked on the website! Street parking wasn't hard to find and we were greeted and seated immediately. We loved the calming atmosphere inside and had a table with a view of everything. After offering us water, we decided on drinks. I ordered the Velvet Reviver, which was described as an espresso martini meets a White Russian. It was delicious and almost like a dessert drink. My boyfriend ordered The Squid & The Whale which grew on all of us, especially paired with our food. To start, we shared the Yache pajun (vegetable scallion pancakes) and the Dukboki fundido (a Mexican inspired spicy, hot, cheesy dip with my favorite chewy Korean rice cakes inside). The scallion pancakes were delicious and had much more texture than once I have tried in the past, paired with a perfect vinegary sauce you can spoon on top. We all loved the dip and it was the perfect amount of spicy and comforting chewiness. I then was recommended a white wine to pair with the appetizer I chose as my entree, the Yeoneo. Each slice of salmon was incredibly fresh, and they were very generous with the amount of row that was served as well. The greens and avocado slices were great as well to add more texture. My boyfriend then ordered a yummy beer and the Daegu jorim. We absolutely adored this dish and noted that the cod had perfect structure to it, that almost mimic that of the deliciously cooked radishes in this dish. His mother ordered the ultimate comfort dish of the night, the Kalbi jjim (with no jalapeños). We were in awe at how the meat fell apart due to how tender it was. If you like melt in your mouth beef and stew like dishes, this is the dish for you. Our food was served with some banchan: amazing kimchi, myeolchi bokkeum (dried anchovies, much more mild than you'd expect), and kongjang (soy beans, also mild and with more chew than a typical edamame you might expect). We absolutely loved our dinner here and how helpful and kind the weight staff was, explaining different dishes and flavors, and clearing and switching out our plates at every turn.

Since I was staying in Brooklyn for work, Haenyeo was an easy choice for a date night dinner. We went on a Thursday evening around 8pm. We didn't have a reservation but were seated immediately without a wait. The restaurant was fairly busy; if you're planning ahead I would consider making a reservation. We started with an order of the Japchae. Then we ordered the Bibimbop with chicken and the Bulgogi. The Japchae was underwhelming. Not a strong flavor profile, leaned sort of bland. The entrees were much better. The rice in the Bibimbop had a really yummy crispy layer. When all mixed together, it's a great melody of flavors and textures. The Bulgogi was equally enjoyable. Definitely recommend the red spicy sauce it comes with. We shared both entrees among 2 people and felt the portions sizes were decent - neither left hungry. The service was okay. We didn't seem to have a dedicated server. It felt like all the wait staff takes care of everyone simultaneously? Everyone was friendly; there was just a long wait for someone to come for our food order. If you're looking for an authentic experience with Korean food, this may be the spot for you.
