I went to Dutch Boy Burger yesterday. I've been there multiple times because it's local, I have even ordered from them through Uber Eats. (I like it there!) I went there yesterday because I got home late from an appointment and I just stopped in for a burger caramel fries and a milkshake. I came in They were exactly 4 people sitting in the front dining room. The server at the front counter told me to sit anywhere I did and she came over and took my order. I came to eat alone, so after handling a few things and taking a few calls on my phone for about 25-30 minutes, I realize that two parties who'd come in after me had received their food and we're almost finished (They are now currently 11 to 12 people in the dining room). I got up and went to the counter to ask the server what was the delay with my food and how could the 2 or 3 parties here after me be eating their food and almost finished? She looked at me and told me and told me she forgot to put my order in. I was so confused, I asked her how no one was in here when I got it you were standing at the counter. I was the only one in here when I told you my order. I went back to my table. She then followed me to my table and asked me my order again. Very tired, very annoyed and very hungry. A long toothpick would've been nice. The strawberry shake was the star. They know how to make a milkshake at Dutch Boy. a that's easy to see. The fries were generous in size. I'm particularly tickled by the Warm Up Shake, which is made with coffee ice cream, kahlua, and Brady's Irish Cream. Those allergic to almonds be warned that their liqueur contains almonds. Came here as an alternative to another restaurant and I am oh so glad that we did. My partner and I both ordered the classic burger with cheese, bacon, and the lettuce. What I love about this place is they cater to all. In addition to a traditional burger, they have turkey burgers, veggie burgers, and an impossible burger. We tried the garlic parm fries and the onion rings. Now the only reason I am not giving this place five stars in because the fries were not that great because they were soggy and the garlic parm was not evenly distributed on the fries. They tasted kind of bland in my opinion. The onion rings were so good; they were crispy and have a nice flavor. I would definitely go with the onion rings instead of the fries when visiting. Wow. So, I've written a great review before but it was only based on a pickup order. I was drawn into this whimsically named establishment by their nostalgic advertising. That, and I had time to kill before a Yelp event being held around the corner. They specialize in burgers, and their posted menu had all the hallmarks that I would be in for a good meal. On my first night as a Prospect/Crown Heightsian (depending on who you ask, the border of these 'hoods is so up in the air) my boo, roommates/friends and I wandered through the mean streets of Prospect/Crown Heights in search of delicious foodstuffs. (In fairness, we were exhausted...so our lack of enthusiasm had less to do with Dutch Boy Burger and more with our aimless wandering/sleepiness) I ordered the macaroni and cheese, an order of cheese and gravy fries, and a roasted marshallow milkshake made from Blue Marble ice cream. Everyone else ordered burgers and fries and various other shakes. Consensus was that the burgers were "almost Shake Shack good," which I cannot attest to as I did not try them. HOWEVER, I must say that my cheese and gravy fries were out of this world amazing. Whoa. Even as I could feel myself getting fatter and fatter eating this plate of greasy, gravy-soused goodness, I didn't care. The fries were crisp and the cheese and gravy really made the dish outstanding. Oy vey...totally worth the thousands of calories (I'm assuming) that I spent on them. The mac n cheese, on the other hand, was poor. It was runny, had very little flavor, and was underwhelming to say the least. Sad days, as mac n cheese and I are normally besties. It is pretty messy since it's a bar in the back and the front is small and super busy it's hard for workers to keep it clean. I am disappointed at my visit because I requested to sit in the front both with my boyfriend and the host said no because it's for parties larger than 2. I'm usually understanding when a restaurant is pretty crowded, but today it isn't crowded and there are other tables available. Since I don't like to back talk with the host since they are handling food I sat in a seat that is for a party of 2. Crown Heights has so many places which have opened up over the past several years, but it's challenging to find a spot where the volume doesn't blow out your eardrums. The space is deceptively spacious. In the front there is a cozy diner setup. As you walk further into the space, there's an arcade, a bar and and some outdoor space. A pleasant surprise indeed. My friend and I chose the al fresco option since a table opened up. It is nice to see that they try to reserve larger tables for parties of at least 5 to max out the space. This spot has a solid selection of local beers on tap. My friend had a Montauk ale, I had a blood orange pale ale. They were so smooth and tasty that we had two rounds. I am glad that I ordered the tasty Impossible Burger (nice that they had 3 meatless burger options) per the server's suggestion - thanks Stephanie! My friend had the lobster roll with fries, which looked pretty substantial. The servers were a bit hard to flag down given the Saturday night crowd, but this is a nice place in the area to keep in mind for a burger and a beer. The portion was HUGE and definitely worth 11 bucks. I'd recommend splitting it with a friend, or planning to eat it as leftovers. I've also had the pancakes, embedded with fresh strawberries. Yes, they were delicious, but not worth 10 bucks. Especially since it didn't come with any sides. There's no reason to charge this much for such a simple dish, unless of course the ingredients were organic/local--which they certainly were not. Bf came here after we had a thgif and enjoyed the burgers & fries so much that he took me here the next day to make up. Haha! The quirkiest part is that there's a mini arcade and bar area in the back. Pretty neat! I forgot to bring quarters though. ORDER -Classic burger: they toast the bun which bf loves bc then it'll be easier to hold the meat and toppings together without any slippage. Patty is cooked to your liking and the bf loves medium. -Garlic parmesan fries: fries are on point! Super crispy and not too oily -Portabello sandwhich: came with 2 huge portabello mushrooms that were marinated and seasoned well. Loved how it came with a salad too, so I just ditched the bread and had a portabello mushroom salad. Super filling!! Service was friendly and fast. While waiting for our orders, we checked out the arcade. The front reminds me of a 70s diner with the leather seat booths. They have an $8 lunch special which I think is totally worth it.
