The car was a Toyota Corolla and was clean. There was a slight odor of marijuana in the car during pickup but I just fixed that with some air freshener. I got a great deal on the car so I was not going to complain. The reason for the 2 stars- upon returning the car I received my deposit a few days later. No problem. However I noticed that I had an additional charge on my account for $47. When I called I was told this charge was made by mistake and I have followed up week after week and it still has not been refunded to me. I'm not sure how you can even make a mistake and charge a random amount to a customer after our business with them was completed. But it seems shady. All my calls to them have been brushed off and there is no sense of urgency to have this mistake corrected. Good prices, friendly people at first but because of this I will not be going back.

I returned vehicle with full tank, when dropping off, employee asked if I needed a receipt while I was still outside. I said yes so we went inside and he printed it off, while walking out I was looking at it. I knew the booking was about $130. Then I see the receipt said over $200. They charged me $60 for gas. Immediately went back in and the employee already had the receipt with gas taken off ready. CLEARLY did this on purpose hoping if I didn't ask for a receipt he'd get that up charge. And if I did ask for the receipt, he hoped I wouldn't catch it. Today... I go in to get a vehicle for a one way. And they tell me they are no longer doing one ways and "they tried to call" never got a call. I pressed the employee why this would happen as this rental was for work and was critical. After pressing him on how this could happen, he backtracked and said it was just that they don't have any now, not that they "no longer doing one ways". My assumption is, there is some incentive for them to not send out one way vehicles because it makes their location harder to run or less profitable. Evident in their willingness to try and rip me off a week or so earlier. Went down the street to enterprise, no account. Made an a reservation and got a car in less than 20 minutes and the staff was great. Despite having an account with Avis/budget. I WILL NEVER use this location again. Very shady business.

    HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND…read more I reserved a Nissan Rogue or Similar vehicle on APRIL 16, 2025 for a pick-up on MAY 22, 2025 9am at Moreno Valley, CA to return to Oceanside, CA May 23, 2025 9am. I come to the office[difficult to locate BTW, since they just rented out a small office INSIDE a Dodger dealership. I arrived at 8:55am [already checked-in online at 8am BTW to pick-up at 9am]. Ramon and Crystal were the customer service reps at the desk. I dealt with Crystal. Apparently, they didn't have the vehicle I reserved and Ramon attempted to offer a Tesla or a Jeep. However, I requested a Nissan Rogue or similar because I have a car seat, stroller and about 7 luggages. If I wanted a smaller vehicle or a "luxury" vehicle I would've reserved the vehicle. After they realized it would be a one-way rental, they didn't want to offer a jeep[which they said would be an upgrade, but I didn't want that, as the cargo space would be small]. Crystal had blatantly mentioned usually they don't rent-out vehicles they don't want to lose from one-way rentals[I don't think she was supposed to say this casually]. Anyways, a lady comes in to drop-off a vehicle. Crystal and Ramon was glad as apparently it would be the vehicle they will provide to me. I thought it would be THE Nissan Rogue or Similar I reserved. I waited for approx 20 mins as they need to wash the vehicle[Crystal didnt even mention this, i had to ask if they were washing the vehicle and only then they mentioned it] Btw-i didn't ask the type of vehicle, as I figured it be the Rogue or Similar. After that approx 20 mins wait, Crystal walked me to the vehicle and it was a Trailblazer. I told Crystal, this vehicle is too small to fit the car seat, stroller and 7 luggages. Crystal said it is the same class, cargo etc. I told her, I know the difference between a Rogue and this trailblazer as I have driven/rented a Rogue before. I told her, just refund me the rental. We go back to the office, and Ramon wanted to see the email reservation. I showed it to him. He proceeded to educate me how the Trailblazer is under the same class as the Rogue. In my mind, don't educate me, as I know the difference in regards to the cargo space etc. I didn't want to argue, so I just nodded and waited until they refund me. Crystal texted someone from the higher-up, I guess because they couldn't cancel it on their end, apparently. Ramon mentioned, they will cancel it on their end and I could leave as it would take a while. Again, this was around 9am-10am. I left, and around 1pm, I received an email from Hertz saying I picked up the vehicle and to return the vehicle on the reserved details. I called corporate/customer service and Vina told me my rental was never cancelled and apparently, Ramon and Crystal NEVER CANCELLED MY RESERVATION. Vina was kind enough to cancel the reservation. This is approximately at 2pm on the same-day. So, even if you reserve MORE THAN a MONTH in advance for a vehicle you CLEARLY WANT, they will provided these options to you on the day of: [A] 'luxury' (tesla) to appeal you [B] a clearly smaller type of vehicle that you know is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from the vehicle you CLEARLY reserved and TRULY wanted. I know my vehicles and I don't respect that fact that they attempted to give me a damn Trailblazer and explaining/educating it is the same as a Rogue. GTFO. DO NOT DEAL WITH HERTZ...AT LEAST with this location and people. ON A GREAT NOTE, I went to ENTERPRISE in Banning, CA[few mins away] and the Assistant rental manager[Brooke] provided a Rogue and CHEAPER PRICE upon reserving and arrival AT THE LOCATION. Check my review on their page for this! AGAIN- DO NOT RENT WITH THIS HERTZ location. And if you cancel your reservation, and if Ramon or Crystal said they will cancel on their end, please call The corporate/customer service to confirm.

    I recently returned a rental from HERZT and feel compelled to share this warning…read more I rented an EV and used Tesla Superchargers during the rental. Every single charging session was clearly documented with time, location, cost, and a photo as proof. Most of the time, I charged the vehicle at home. The total charging cost was about $151, but HERZT charged me more than double that amount without any explanation. Their bill did not match my records at all. I called their customer service several times to dispute the charges, but no solution was offered. The attitude I received was essentially: "If you want to rent from us, you have to accept our terms." No explanation, no itemized breakdown, no accountability. I ended up returning the car today. Seven years ago, I had already noticed that HERZT tends to overcharge and sneak in fees. I gave them another chance, and unfortunately, nothing has changed. This time, I made sure to clean the vehicle carefully and took photo evidence before returning it. At this point, I would not be surprised if they still try to add a cleaning fee out of nowhere. My advice is simple. Go to Enterprise instead. I have rented from Enterprise for over 15 years and never had a single unpleasant experience. Their pricing is transparent, and their service is reliable. I underestimated just how unreliable HERZT still is. I will never rent from them again. If Enterprise is not available, I would rather ride a bicycle than deal with HERZT again. Seriously.
