    Vegetable egg rolls

This spot is very much a hidden gem! I saw it on Instagram from a local content creator so decided to give it a try. I went on a Sunday afternoon around 4PM. The restaurant is located in a shopping strip near the Harwin area. When we arrived there was only one other patron inside so we essentially had the place to ourselves. There was also only one worker that we noticed who was working the register. You order your food at the register and they'll bring it out to you. The inside looks new and modern with the grass wall and aesthetics. Overall it was pretty clean but there were a couple of tables that needed to be bussed down and then when we were done eating they took a while to clear our table as well. The service was pretty basic. Again, there was only one worker there and so there wasn't a whole lot of interaction regarding refilling our drinks, cleaning off plates etc. it was kinda like a "call me when you need something" which I didn't too much mind but I can tell my cousin wanted a more interactive customer service experience. On to the food. We ordered a few things so that we could try multiple items. We ordered the vegetable egg rolls, combination fried rice, brisket noodles, chicken Bahn Mi and and a brisket Bahn Mi. Everything that we ordered was delicious!! The noodles were soo good and had Thai spicy kick to it: they also put a generous amount of brisket on top. Both sandwiches were pretty good but I requested a side of sauce because it would otherwise be a tad bit dry for my liking (I like sauces on my sandwich) the eggs rolls were hot and fresh and flavorful as well. I also ordered a lychee rose water drink which was okay. Kinda tasted like a spritz rose water soda. I think the prices may be a tad bit high but I can understand the justification.

Cannot wait to go back and try more items! Such a great experience from start to finish. Came here on a quiet Tuesday evening. The restaurant is cute and clean. They might want to lessen one or two tables to make it more breathable, but not a deal breaker. Service was kind and efficient. Food came out quickly and was fresh. Beef Brisket Fried Rice- 10/10, so delicious Mongolian Beef Stir Fry- 11/10, amazing

I really wanted to love this place. Got a lot of social media hype but sadly, it was just that for me. The food was mediocre. It felt confused to me. Maybe we didn't get the right dishes? But we tried quite a few... First off, $17 for a banh mi with about 2oz of dry brisket? I thought fir that price, it would've been a foot long. But it's not. The bread was good though. The other dishes we got were just ok. The that red curry had a weird smell to it. Maybe from the bamboo, smelled similar from the bamboo coming straight out of the can. Maybe it wasn't washed or doesn't need to be. It was simply ok. Same for the lo mein and spicy garlic noodles. They looked very similar aside from spice and some basil leaves. The gen tso was probably the best dish out of the bunch but it lacked dimension in flavor and no red chili present. Maybe we just got the wrong dishes...

I recently tried this asian fusion restaurant on Hillcroft. They have a lot of different cuisines (Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, etc) which is usually a red flag for me in terms of authenticity, but I think their food still tastes great. Overall I would give this place 8 s/10. The ambiance was alright, it felt like they were trying to fit in extra tables in a space that wasn't meant for it so it's very cramped. I'll probably be getting take out from here if I come again. ------------ I tried the brisket Bahn mi and it was a delicious 8.5/10, although it wasn't filling enough for me to be full after eating it. I feel like it needs a side or something more to complete the experience, especially for the price. The brisket was juicy and there were enough vegetables in the sandwich, but it just needed something more.

From the same owners of Bismillah, I was really excited to try this place but was very disappointed afterwards. First thing- when I entered, there was a nasty smell. Smelled like old yogurt- gross. The atmosphere is nice. There's a lot happening. Green grass wall decor, that's very in. Light up signs. It was nice. Guy behind the cashier- he was nice. Helped us out. Food- presentation was on point. However the taste was... yuck! The Mongolian chicken- tasted like a bunch of Shan masala packets had been tossed on. All the veggies and sauce were at the bottom which we had no idea because of how it came. The lo mein beef- I think it was a handful of turmeric thrown on top of the noodles with sliced beef. No taste. The spring roll- the size of my pinky. I took one bite- I could feel the oil squirt into my mouth. Nothing but oil and breading. Normally I'd give mom & pop places a second try but I don't know in this case. The smell of the establishment was a huge turn of.

I was doing my neighborhood audit and saw Wok It Out popped up. I remember it was boarded up during my UYE I'm May. I'm so glad it's open. Thanks to my Yelp friend Bryan D's review intrigued my curiosity. Wok It Out broke the norm of Asian Fusion food to next level. First of all, it's Halal. Second of all, the menu is very easy to read. I sat there enjoying my Grilled Chicken Banh Mi Sandwich and Tea Globe. I overheard a customer asking about boba tea. It's definitely a unique addition to Gandhi District where primarily serving Southeast Asian cuisine. Like everyone said, the banh mi ($10.99) was more delicious than the traditional Vietnamese sandwich shop. The bread was fresh and not crunchy. My biggest fear is breaking my ceiling eating it fast. But the sandwich at Work It Out doesn't. The meat was cubed perfectly, which means meat was fresh. Flavor was well balanced. I ordered a hot tea - Egyptian Chamomile Tea Globe. (Yeah, I must have hot drink in hot days.) It was so cute. I can't resist of bragging about it on Instagram. The entire setup is crystal clear, clear cup, clear hot water kettle and mirror tray. Once hot water poured into the cup, watch the ball expand. I was busy bragging about my experience on social media and I missed the popping moment. "Pop" is when sugary shell melted. I was instructed to stir before drinking. The tea was smooth and fragrant, which I consider a well spend of $5.99 to a cute tea time experience. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. While I was asking employee to hint me his favorite, a customer recommended Mongolian Beef. I thanked him while looking at the food he was eating. Wow, that's a lot of food. I was only there for a quick snack before my grocery shopping (so, I don't over spend while shopping hungry). I shall be back to try some other entrees. Kudos to Bismillah Restaurant owner's expansion.

This place is such a hidden gem, and I'm glad to have discovered it! I had to try this Halal Asian fusion cuisine! Upon entry, the place was clean & well kept. The staff was kind & patient as we took our time with the menu. We ordered the brisket banh mi & combo lo mein (chicken, shrimp, & beef) at the counter & took a seat, as there is plenty of seating! The food came quickly & made fresh. Great portion sizes, well seasoned, and generous with the protein! We washed it down with water, but I'd encourage you to try their teas! I surely will next time because there will definitely be a next time at Wok It Out! Enjoy!

Came here on a Saturday during lunch hour and the whole place was empty. First impressions of the restaurant: clean and spacious. I ordered the Mongolian beef stir fry and got their mango specialty drink with it (I forgot what it is called oops). The food was really good. No complaints. I deducted one star because it is crazy expensive. Almost $60 for 2 people, even though its fast casual. I'm excited to try different things when I go back!

Great addition to the Hilcroft area! Wok It Out is a Pan Asian inspired restaurant with several different items from Banh mi, to different types of fried rice & noodles, to even boba! I love their interior with cute neon signs around the walls, and very cute and contemporary style. What we ordered: - Brisket Fried Rice- 10/10. Very delicious. Tasted fresh. And the brisket on top was not dry at all- perfectly tender. I was very impressed. If you know me you know I love me some brisket. And this was great! - Beef Brisket Banh Mi- 8/10. Pretty good Banh mi. Not the best I have had but also still good. They brought out hot sauce on the side as well for you to dip your sandwich into which was great. Bread was also perfectly soft and not too hard. Some places usually don't have the perfect bread for their banh mi- but this was tasty! - Mongolian Beef- 8/10! This was good! Better to eat everything hot and as soon as it comes out. We ate this last as we had other items and it wasn't too good when it got cold. - Spicy Garlic Noodles with chicken- 8.5/10. These were yummy! Pretty spicy, but had the perfect kick. Only thing here is you had to add on a protein. Usually that's fine but add ons were a bit over priced in my opinions. It was 13-14$ to add chicken and about 16-17$ to add shrimp. A bit pricey I would say compared to other places. For drinks we ordered the Gucci Man-go drink. This came with mango popping boba. This was a 8/10. Pretty good!! It was basically carbonated mango juice but it hit the spot with the food. Definitely would want to go back and try their other drinks. All in all- this place was good, but a little over priced. I would probably still go back to try other things, but something to note down if you don't want to spend too much on food when you go to Hilcroft!

We tried the turkey, brisket, and jalapeño sausage, and every one of them was delicious. One thing we really appreciated was the toppings bar, which included pickles, onions, pickled onions, jalapeños, and two different barbecue sauces so you could customize each bite. They even had a mini soft-serve ice cream machine for a little dessert after your meal, which was a nice touch. They also offer family meal options, making it a great choice for larger groups. We ain't in Queens anymore…read more For years, I've eaten on Shah's all around the borough, initially out in Ozone Park and Briarwood before finding a real audience in Sunnyside. Now that they've sufficiently blown up around NYC, I was a bit shocked (and excited) to see them finally come to H-Town. What's the verdict? It's good enough to pass muster for NY standards (#1), is open super late, and will likely be my go-to Halal food for the foreseeable future. Since I've only had it in cart form, I'm still a buggin over the fact it's become a franchise. It's similar to my shock of eating Halal Guys at a store for the first time. The digs feel as foreign (prices, large, clean and bright interior) as it does familiar (taste, logo, etc.). Even though I had a laugh seeing the wall photo-mural of a Shah's cart in Times Square, I did appreciate the nod to Ozone Park with the 121st & Liberty street signs. The chicken + lamb combo platter ($12) is and always will be the winner. The lamb had the same kind of seasoning that most Halal spots out here try to replicate but can never get right. The rice was fluffy, and the white sauce was easily the highlight. I can understand why they've decided to bottle it up and sell it as liquid gold. It makes every meal better. Kofta ($12) and chapli ($13) are rarely my favorites, but I knew I had both in platter form. The addition of adding chickpeas and these other salads is not something I'm used to from the carts (#2) but I loved the fact it was drowned in the white sauce with a dash of hot sauce. The latter is supposedly extremely hot, but I didn't find it that spicy. While I have to say the cheeseburger was a bit of a disappointment (overly bready, thin patty), the pakora chips and french fries were fabulous. They were perfectly seasoned, had a nice crisp, and frankly would be an excellent, gut-busting addition to any platter. I don't love the extra charge, but I hope they remain consistent with it. This store location in Westchase along Westheimer is an up and coming part of town. There are numerous Middle Eastern businesses in the adjacent area, along with an abundance of parking spots and a good amount of late night activity. Service was friendly but I do hope they keep their standards up. As time goes on, I'm 100% convinced this will be a destination for the many late night meal seekers and fans of NY nostaligia. __________ (#1) Which automatically supersedes a lot of the ones here in Houston. Just keeping it real. (#2) Is the chickpeas a Houston thing? Genuinely curious.

I got the white sauce on the lamb and the spicy red sauce on the side. Unfortunately after a few bites I put too much hot sauce on, which made it less enjoyable, but that was my fault. I'd order this again, very solid, reminded me of some of the best halal trucks in NYC. 5*.

This is a nicely sized spot next to the Jusgo plaza in Houston Chinatown, so plenty of parking and also food options. It's tucked in a corner but should not be written off. Its a pretty casual sitdown restaurant and we were welcomed and sat pretty quickly on a Saturday around 8:30PM. We were provided menus and started ordering everything that sounded good (within reason for 2, sorta). We ended up getting the Uyghur polo with lamb shank, Uyghur goshnaan, korma chop, garlic cucumbers, mint tea, and a yogurt for dessert. This was more than enough food for 2 but I wanted to try a bunch and this is me holding back. The Uyghur goshnaan was very crispy and the filling was flavorful and juicy, good lamb flavor and nice spices. The Uyghur polo with lamb shank was great and the pilaf had a nice sweetness with raisins that cut through some of the fatty richness of the lamb. The korma chop was also super flavorful with a nice savory sauce and noodled with an excellent texture, very QQ. I don't usually order cucumbers at Asian restaurants cause I can make a cucumber salad pretty easily at home but the one here was very good. Excellent refreshing crunch and garlic flavor to go with all the other dishes. The mint tea was also nice to wash down the mountains of food I was inhaling. I also enjoyed the yogurt, it's a thicker yogurt like a Greek yogurt and topped with honey and raisins. Again, a nice sweet/tart treat that didn't feel too heavy after everything else. I definitely need to come back as I didn't even get my big plate chicken but it'll be hard to choose between all the options. I def recommend this spot, esp if you like lamb as all the dishes we had were excellent and priced fairly for the portion and current economic situation.

I didn't catch the name of the gentleman at the front but he was super easy going, professional and patient with us while we decided why to get since it was our first time. I noticed they now advertise 50 flavors, and the specials have changed as well. Unfortunately, just my luck, my usual flavor, Spicy Lemon Pepper BBQ, is no longer on the menu. I decided to try Spicy Lemon Pepper Honey instead, and it was actually really good. I'd definitely order that flavor again. My friend ordered the same flavor, but her order only came out as regular Spicy Lemon Pepper, so she was understandably disappointed with that mix-up. I also ordered two separate 6-count wing orders ($10.99 each) and was only given one ranch sauce. Mind you, these weren't part of a wing special. If I had ordered a 12-count with two flavors, I would've understood, but ordering two separate 6-counts made me assume we'd each get our own sauce. Maybe I should've been more specific, but honestly, I didn't think that would be necessary. The other odd part of the experience was requesting the wings to be fried hard. The cook came out from the back three separate times to confirm that's what I wanted and kept emphasizing that it would take 20 minutes. I was a little confused because, yes, that's exactly how I ordered them, and I was perfectly fine waiting since I'm paying for the food. I even asked how long they normally cook them because all the repeated confirmations started making me concerned. The reason I requested them fried hard in the first place was because during a previous visit, the wings were soft and borderline undercooked. Overall, the wings were good this time around, but the multiple service hiccups made the experience a little frustrating. I'd probably come back, but maybe on a Wednesday for the .99 special because there are other places in Houston with better wing deals at this price point. The food has potential, especially with all the flavor options, but consistency and attention to detail could definitely be improved.
