Reviews led us astray this time. This place is a small hole in the wall which isn't a deal breaker for us....but it's pretty grungy. My wife went with the happy family lunch combo, comes with your choice of soup, we picked wonton....good broth but the wontons were not. The crab rangoon was very good, the miniscule egg roll was average. I got the General Tso's chicken lunch special. The chicken had little breading which is a good thing but it was very dry and chewy. The venetian blinds by our table were covered in a thick layer of dust, the soy sauce container on our table had stuff stuck to the side of it. I must've had bad luck because this is NOT as good as what the reviews say it is. The Mongolian chicken and fried rice was bland, the rice was way too firm as if it was more than a day old, the crab puffs are burnt, and the egg drop soup is too watery. I really don't like giving bad reviews because I like to support small and local businesses however, spending $20 for lunch and receiving this kind of food I can't justify supporting Kim Cafe. I ordered the food online and is about 10 minutes from where I work. I waited a bit, about 10-15 minutes to go pick it up and when I got there it still took another 15-20 minutes to get my order. If the place was busy I could understand a longer wait time but there was noone in there. I don't recommend them at all. I took a few bites of everything and that was it. I had no interest in eating more. It's very rare me doing that which says a lot about my experience. Don't waste your money, it's not worth it. read more

Surprisingly tasty! Based on the some complaint that it was oily, I ate with caution. But it turned out to be fresh and tasty and yes a little oily. My daughter and I shared the "House special in garlic?" It had fresh sliced tender chicken and beef and shrimp with bamboo in brown garlic sauce. It was so yummy that my daughter and I ate in silence. Lol! I'm sorry I didn't take a picture- the food was gone before I remembered that I had planned to do a review. My lunch-to-go had Eggrolls and crab puff. They also gave me a cold water bottle! Most excellent meal. It's a father-son business. Houston is known for a number of things. It's one of the main oil and gas cities in the country, it has great Sports, and it's an international hub for different countries around the world. However, one might not think, or even conceive, it has a huge eastern food section. The Southwest quadrant of Houston is predominantly filled with Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese food... and most do a wonderful job. However, the best Chinese restaurant in the city is Kim's Cafe. On a whim, we ended up stopping at Kim's Cafe. We were in for a real treat. Upon walking in we were greeted with Kim's son, who was absolutely wonderful and extremely nice. We also met the owner, Kim of course, who was the main cook. They treated us to a wonderful meal at their restaurant. We also learned that Kim personally goes out and buys the freshest ingredients for all of his signature and menu dishes. There is not a single dish that is processed. Everything is made with fresh ingredients to order. We ordered spring rolls, combination Lo Mein, and a General Tso's chicken. When we went the second time we ordered jalapeno chicken. I thought I tasted great Chinese food all over different parts of the country... boy was I wrong...up until I went here! This was something completely different. I have never tasted the Chinese dishes, we all know and love, prepared fresh in this fashion. The prices were great for the quality of food that you receive. I will be continuously posting photos of this food. I find that when I order food at Kim's, I tend to gobble it down like a gobbling Goblin from Gobstopperville. Take the time and visit Kim's Cafe... FYI. I'm not a food blogger. This is a small place. Seems to be a mom and pop restaurant. That's probably why my food was sooo good. The lo mein was great. Not the usual burnt tasting soy sauce mixture. The vegetable egg rolls were also good. Not greasy and had a crunch to them. Not soggy or mushy. The prices good. While the strip is mall is a little older, the restaurant was easy to find and it was clean inside. The owner is super friendly and really went out of his way to make sure we were well taken care of. We ordered the house special (based on others' reviews) and kung pao chicken with white rice. Both dishes were hot, made to order and absolutely delicious. Best Chinese food in Houston. I am from Detroit and I'm accustomed to shrimp fried rice that is brown from soy sauce. I don't like yellow shrimp fried rice. They serve large portions and in dishes that include shrimp they provide a medium size shrimp- no popcorn, bite sized shrimp. They have a delicious house lo mein as well. read more

Fresh food prepared when you order! Produces flavorful Chinese-American dishes. Especially the vegetables were tellingly fresh and prepared perfectly. We especially loved the green peppers, onions, carrots and pea pods. Chef/owner is onsite along with his son. Very personable people. I adore this place. It is really hidden and the inside doesn't look amazing but I was welcomed in as soon as I walked in. The couple that owns the restaurant are so kind and sincere. Very nice cafe! This little cafe might be a bit secluded and hard to find in the plaza but what a find it was! This spot is perfect for lunch as they are fast, fresh and ready to take on the go. The taste was quite authentic and reminded me of home style Chinese food. They were pretty generous with the meat portions and each plate comes with an egg roll and crab puff which should be more than enough for lunch. What stood out to me the most was how much they cared about their customers. They remembered longtime customers' orders and were friendly to everyone there. This is my favorite mom and pop Chinese food spot. The little old man that runs the place with his son is the sweetest man that I have ever met. With all of the covid shut downs they are able to continue to serve great reasonably priced food. 10/10 would recommend! I got the beef and broccoli with extra sauce. Cheese puffs are a MUST. We had a bad experience the first time we went here, the lady in the counter doesn't seem to know what she's doing. They have lunch special buy 1 get 1 50% off. We bought 2 lunch specials & 1 sprite & she applied the 50% on the sprite instead of the 2nd lunch special. So we asked her, she did not bother looking at the receipt but instead told us that whatever is at the bottom of the receipt that's where the 50% off will apply. Secondly, when she brought the food to our table i asked her if they have straw for the sprite she automatically said NO we don't have straw, we are out. Third, when we are about to pay the credit card machine did not work so they asked if we have cash. The chinese guys who's trying to fix the cc machine understood our complain on the discount & fixed it. The food was not good. It says grand opening, new management. Suggest to train the lady in the counter how to do customer service otherwise it can really hurt your business. She is the front liner which can create first impression to the customer.
