I was recommended by a family as they had Sheryl make their wedding cake. I read that her specialty is the Ube flavoured cake, so when we decided to order our wedding cake, we knew we had to get Ube. Sheryl might not respond to her emails ASAP as she has another job as well, but will eventually respond within a few business days. If it's urgent, and you need a quick response, you can always call or text her for inquiries. Ordering our wedding cake was very easy, we told Sheryl the details such as how many tiers, serving size, and design inspiration. She also delivers for an additional fee depending where in the GTA. On the day of our wedding, we expected to see her around 4pm, but she actually came earlier to help set up, and make the cake area look nice. When I saw the cake in person, it was made almost exactly to what I asked for, and yes, it was beautiful. The buttercream used lasted for hours as the cake wasn't served until at least 5 hours after being placed on the table. When I tried a slice, the Ube flavour was evident, not too sweet, and the cake itself was very soft. I highly recommend booking your wedding cake, or any cake from Sheryl if you want Ube! I came across Wish a Cake from the amazing reviews on Yelp and knew I had to try their ube cake! I ordered a 9" ($45) ube birthday cake and picked it up at the owner Sheryl's house. She was nice and quick to respond to emails. The cake had three layers of light purple yam sponge cake with coconut flavoured whipped cream and it was all topped with young coconut strings. I loved how light, fluffy, and not too sweet the cake was. There was a balance in flavours and as I prefer my cake not to be too moist, it was the perfect moistness! I would have preferred for a stronger ube flavour and perhaps the addition of ube jam because I love a huge slap of ube! Compared to other independent bakeries and bakers that sell ube cake, $45 for a 9" is definitely a competitive price. Thanks to the Yelp community I found this gem! I was searching high and low for an ube cake. If you don't know what ube is - it is purple yam. Many Filipino desserts contain ube. You would be surprised how delicious purple yam is if you haven't already. Most ube cakes have shreds of macapuno (coconut sport) and this cake has just the right amount mixed into the filling. I stumbled upon Wish A Cake and decided to take a chance based on the reviews on Yelp. I filled out the online order form and asked if it's possible to order an ube cake to be picked up in a week. I waited for 48 hours and received no response. I waited a few days more, but no word. I eventually bought another cake from another bakery since I received no confirmation regarding the cake I ordered. Fast forward a week later, I received a call around 7-8pm and the caller informed me that my cake was ready for pick up. I told her, yes, I did order a cake, but received no confirmation so I assumed my order wasn't filled. She said the order was filled, but that her daughter probably forgot to confirm with me. I felt bad since the cake was already made so I informed her that I'm still interested, but I couldn't pick it up that night as I was at the other end of the city. I asked if I could pick it up the next day, but she was a bit hesitant and asked if I could just pick it up that night. Considering there was a communication issue and it was through no fault of my own, I thought she should have been more accomodating and made arrangements on her end so that I could pick it up the next day. I had to scramble last minute to try and find someone who could pick it up. The cake itself is good and was decorated nicely. It's a fluffy and soft sponge cake, and not overly sweet. The macapuno (coconut strings) on top is a nice touch. The whipped cream frosting is light and fresh. The ube flavour; however, is somewhat lacking. I was hoping for a stronger flavour, but could not taste it at all. In my opinion, it was just a regular purple sponge cake. Docked two stars because of the communication issue and 1 star for the lack of ube flavour. read more
