E.g. one specifically liked playing in water, one really liked the cow's molasses in buckets nearby, some had a little bit more sass than the others, etc. The little tidbits that she gave for each horse was a clear indication that the staff & owners cared for and loved these horses - this is enough for any animal lover to want to support this business. It also made it easier to connect with and understand our horses to make the experience more enjoyable. HCT was otherwise fairly priced & reasonably understanding if customers are running late. The trails were beautiful and unique. The dogs running along with us were entertaining. I couldn't have asked for a better time! Note: They have a little outhouse on the side, but unless you're ok with those, be sure to use the bathroom before!

All of that was included. The rooms were old, but nice. Bunk for the kids and queen bed for us. We stayed in one of the lodges. There was a common room with a fireplace and some games we utilized, too. We had a mini fridge and microwave. We used those for storing breakfast and lunch items and the microwave for popcorn at night. Was a nice stay! The cross country skiing trails were great, even with the limited snow that this year has brought. Great workout and loads of fun. We did that with our kids for a few hours each day (January stay).

It is now late season and a number of activities were closed - canoes, the pool. However there was so much to do, we did not really miss these. There was so much we didn't get to but ran out of time -- craft room, roller-skating, hikes. There are restaurants available. The place is beautiful, can't wait to go back for fall leaf season or winter sports.

Our guide was Katie, a 17 year old young lady who was incredibly engaged with us, pleasant and shared historical information on the mining days in Central City and pointed out interesting things along our ride. The entire ride was beautiful, often through trees and remnants of the mining days. Definitely historical! At the top of the trail ( we went on the 1.5 hour ride) there was a majestic view of Mount Evans and the Colorado landscape in all its beauty. Currently on the phone with bank getting debit card deactivated trying to recoupe some funds from it. Been to horse camps all over the south/west and never encountered this. Then a second ride with 5 of us family members. He is engaging, interesting, knowledgeable about his surroundings, and willing to teach the art of horseback riding. Her prefers texts to book and will meet you to guide you to the trailheads. He did a couple 2 hour rides for us but I know he does 2/4/8 hr rides upon request. I give this review a 5 star but it was a 4 star experience. Only because the Troublesome Fire of 2020 burnt up a lot of Aspen trees along the train and it is slow to come back. Not on Travis just not as beautiful as other parts of CO.

Cattle Drive, do it!!!…read more I've always wanted to do something a little more than a trail ride, not following head to butt in a line and the cattle drive is the perfect excursion. They make sure you are comfortable on the horse, give you tips and clear instructions on what to do. As long as you are in control, you definitely have the freedom to navigate and ride along as you want. We herded up cattle and moved them all towards the watering area and then back out to the feeding area. I loved the freedom to make my own choices with the horse and go as slow or fast as I wanted, there was definitely some trotting! Our guides were awesome, the horses were great. I had the best time and highly recommend if you're looking for an out of the box horseback riding experience! (Bring lots of bug spray, the mosquitoes were out!)

As an experienced rider, I was looking for a trail ride that would not be the stereotypical nose-to-tail walking trail ride that is so commonly offered, and this trail ride did not disappoint! We were able to ride in a pack, side-by-side each other. We rode from the ranch, out through a pasture, and up a hillside to the top of the butte. On the butte, they let us experienced riders do more than walk on our horses. Amy, Josh, and Josh were so warm and welcoming and shared some history about the area. Fantastic tour guides, and amazing humans. My friend and I were visiting Colorado for about a week, and Amy gave us some recommendations of additional things to do/see while we were in the area, as well. Next time I make it back to Colorado, I would absolutely go back and visit Platte Ranch again. Cannot recommend this place enough for those looking for a truly awesome riding experience in the mountains!!

The horses were all fantastic, the wranglers were very friendly, very informative, and amazing at their job, and the scenery was breathtaking. I would almost go back to Colorado for another vacation just to go riding here again. I cannot recommend it enough!!! Not only was the ride amazing, and the scenery too, but our trail guides were the very best. They engaged with each one individually, tried to learn a little about each of us and made sure everyone was having a good time, that we were all comfortable, and they let us know several times to just ask if there was anything we needed. This was my first time in Colorado and this was my favorite experience out of the entire trip! It's such a beautiful way to see the Rocky Mountains. Everyone who works there is knowledgeable and will make you feel at ease throughout the ride. I did the three hour and I highly recommend it but be aware your legs and booty will be hurting for a couple of days haha!! Still worth it! When I visit Colorado again, I will 100% be booking a ride here.
