AMAZING experience! I was beyond nervous to ride a horse, especially on top of mountains lol but I'm so happy I went for it. This was my first time in Colorado and this was my favorite experience out of the entire trip! It's such a beautiful way to see the Rocky Mountains. Everyone who works there is knowledgeable and will make you feel at ease throughout the ride. I did the three hour and I highly recommend it but be aware your legs and booty will be hurting for a couple of days haha!! Still worth it! When I visit Colorado again, I will 100% be booking a ride here. read more

Some parts have more incline/decline while other parts are flatter & calmer, which kept the experience really interesting and fun, yet also relaxing. I treated myself for a horseback ride for my birthday in May and had such a fantastic time. The owner was extremely kind and made me feel extremely comfortable. Safety was the number one priority for the riders as well as the horses. I was so impressed with the horses ability to navigate through the terrain, climbing hills and descending down some of the steep inclines. I must say I was a little nervous because I was accustomed to riding on even surfaces. But we made it through unscaved. The cost was extremely reasonable. $50 at the time I went. It was great weather and a lovely one hour tour on the beautiful mountainsides of Conifer. A hidden gem. read more

Marie guided us through the forest and she was great! Our horses were docile and super responsive to our commands -- all nicely taught by Marie before our ride. Helmets are provided as well and Marie also checks on you all the time during the ride to see if you are ok. They take great care of their horses, and they all seemed happy and healthy. We did a one hour ride, and it was a loop, up and downhill, through the forest and as well through open spaces, always in a nicely kept trail... We also saw some lovely baby deer on our way. What a wonderful experience! Marie replied to my text to schedule promptly and was easy to communicate with. Finding the location was easy via the app on my phone. When I arrived, Marie gave a safety briefing as we had a young girl on our ride. She was very good about making the instructions simple. The best part was the horses. They were healthy and well taken care of. I rode Casey. Aka Casey the Cadillac. She was sure footed, required minimal instruction, had little interest in tailgating, and seemed to enjoy my chatting to her and petting her. Marie's assistant was a pleasure. She rode behind me and we chatted on and off from the beginning. Very easy conversation. The history of the land and horseback riding is interesting and Marie shared it when I asked. The trails were nice with some uphill and downhill vs walking in a straight flat line of horses. This place will stay on my list of places to revisit when I'm in town again! read more

My teenage daughter wanted to do a trail ride while we were visiting the area. I emailed and then texted with Marie and we found a time for her to join in with another family of 5. My daughter had a great experience and felt they gave great instructions. She enjoyed the ride, was happy to get a scenic picture of herself on Patriot, and thought Marie, her daughters (?) and the horses were all very friendly. I wanted to go horseback riding for my birthday and I'm so glad I found this place. I've done it in NY on quaint little trails. Here I did a 90 minute tour and it was so much fun - and it was only about $50 for the ride (plus tip which I was more than happy to give). I got to ride Sheba and we got along well. We walked through the woods and the scenery was gorgeous, I enjoyed the whole trail on that sunny day. At the end of the ride I was allowed to feed my horse snacks too, which I thoroughly enjoyed. We were 3 people in total and we had 2 guides, 1 person to lead in the front and 1 to remain in the back. They gave us a quick refresher course on commands and I felt I was in good hands. I would love to revisit the stable, and maybe try riding on a different horse. read more

Family-owned business that is well put together and provided a beautiful ride. I could have done without the owners overly- boisterous daughter that was loud the entire ride. The owner brought her dog along as well. Which would have been fine if it weren't intentionally trying to antagonize the horses. As novice riders, having your horse get spooked and jump up because of the family pet, is frightening. read more

GREAT location and beautiful trails. Marie and Brian, the owners, came out on the ride with us, and they were very helpful all along the way. The tails are challenging for a beginner (which both of us on the ride were) but totally doable. The horses were well behaved and friendly. At the end of the ride we got the opportunity to take off the horses' saddles if we wanted (we did) and give them a treat. The owners DO TAKE CREDIT CARDS, even though their flyer says they don't. My boyfriend and I came out for a trail ride over the weekend. Unfortunately, the sky dumped 10 inches of snow on the ground which made for a very muddy environment during our original appointment, but Marie and her staff were super accommodating and let us reschedule for a day later so the ground was much drier and better. We loved loved loved our trail ride! The horses are well trained, but not so broke that they aren't responsive to cues. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, Bear Mountain Stables has a horse for you! All of the staff were very personable and friendly, it was like riding with my sister and mom. Arranged a bit last minute for my nephew 15, who had never ridden and niece 17 who had done Indiana "flatland" riding for a taste of Colorado riding. Marie gave great instructions to Jordan who rode Snickers and Michelle who rode Sheba and I brought up the rear on Justin as an experienced rider. The "sunset" tour was outstanding! The terrain was beautiful and rugged, the wildlife spotting was great along with Muffin the dog. Michelle spotted a bull elk and a couple of deer. Jordan gained confidence as Marie kept a good eye on him and "challenged " him a bit with walk to trot combinations. At the hour mark Marie asked if they wanted to do more and "Yes!" came from both mouths. I will definitely be back bring any visitors and locals alike as this ranks among the best rides I have done in Colorado in terms of the guide, the terrain, the temperment of the horses. Jordan (formerly shy and hardly spoke unless spoken to now has blossomed on this trip) was smiling all thru dinner at JJ Madwells down the hill saying he would like to come back for another vacation and he wants to ride again! Big firsts: airplane ride, Rockies game, rafting, ziplining, apline slide/chairlift ride, being in the mountains and riding real horses. A week ago I visited Bear Mountain Stables while on vacation. Marie made my riding experience so memorable. The adventure started out with a short tutorial on horse riding an safety. The information was informative and helpful when we were on the trail. The horse I was paired with had a fun lively personality. It was clear that the horse was treated well and healthy. Marie led us on a trail that led through the picturesque mountains of Colorado. While on the ride, Marie made conversation and made me feel at ease.
