Authenticity - The old west comes alive here. There is no corporation running the show. This is the real thing. Trail rides to spectacular places on horses that want to ride. Led by read and local people. Friendly - A local family that has owned and run Meeker Park Lodge for-ev-er comes out to greet you and welcome you to their little piece of paradise. On-site staff often feature Ms Dever's herself, but you may also meet Chloe, a local high schooler who has been working with horses since she was 13. Barb may lead your ride...and she may sing you one of her cowboy (girl?) originals. Affordable - $35/hr (summer 2017) per person is a very good price for a spry horse, expert guides, and a lifetime experience. Beautiful - If you want Rocky Mountain beauty as it was intended...this is it. We've been on 1hr and 2hr rides to stunning places at Meeker Park Stables; from babbling brooks to rocky topped mountains and beautiful wildflower meadows to scented forests. These are real trail rides....not nose-to-tail dusty marches. You may get some trotting or even cantering in.

It's worth the hike up for your kids to have experiences you won't be able to find anywhere else in the world with life long core memories that build good character. I HIGHLY recommend enrolling your kids here even if it's for one week day camp, or a focus group. I also LOVE that it's been operating for over 70 years by the same family running it today. You won't find anywhere else that has not only a turn key, organized, professional establishment but that's run by heart, soul, love for the outdoors, community, respect for one another, and tradition. It's also a great place to have your wedding or any special event!!

The owners Lynn and Mike are incredibly easy to work with. All the staff are well trained and very attentive to the children and help stretch their comfort zone in fun challenging activities. This year camp was cancelled due to COVID-19. As an alternative, CMR has been hosting single family activities to ensure social distancing. We took the opportunity to do this and we had a blast. As parents, we really didn't know much about how the kids spent their time on the ranch. Spending time up there made me feel like a kid again. The staff made the whole experience fun and easy. The measures that CMR are taking to reduce exposure to the virus are as good as any place I've seen. They sanitize every piece of equipment and touch point between each family and keep the flushies sparkling. Oh and hundreds of acres to spread out the guests. After several months of quarantine and more to come, CMR's 2020 family program was much needed. It's also worth mentioning that various special needs grants and scholarships will cover the family program.

I called three times and also sent an email, but got no response. Our reservation was for October 17th at 11:00 a.m. however it was 11:40 before I sat on a horse. Apparently there were quite a few Mix-Ups where the guides did not know they were 2-hour reservations, one hour reservations and a private tour all waiting to go out at the same time. The one guide who said his name was Nate introduced himself but kept walking back to the office without any explanation for the delay. All he would have had to say was "gosh folks sorry for the delay will be with you in a moment" or something equally as vague to acknowledge our presence and the time ticking away. When we finally did get on horses that seemed to be randomly chosen, the young man leading our group never spoke a word. He never small talked, he never introduced himself he never offered to take photos, or ask if we had any horse experience. The only thing I heard him say was to tell one guest to "kick her harder" after one of the horses was stopped on the trail. The ride itself was okay, but only okay as we seemed to just do zigzags through the woods behind the barn. I really wanted it to get better as my friend and I were very excited about being on horses in the mountains. The very end was when the young man held my horse while I dismounted and asked me if it was too dusty being at the end of the trail, when I told him it was okay his reply was "I hate it, I hate all of it" then he led my horse away and that was the end. We only ended up being on the horses about an hour and 20 minutes even though we had paid for a 2-hour ride, but by then then we were so frustrated, as it seemed so many guests were, we just went to the car and left. Overall we felt jipped out of our money but also out of our precious vacation time. The two young men who were guides could benefit from some customer service training. we were never welcomed, thanked, or really even spoken to. I wish management had called us back after leaving three messages. Maybe that's typical behavior at the very end of the season, however their website says they're open year round. I cannot recommend Elkhorn Stables based on my experience with them.

All of that was included. The rooms were old, but nice. Bunk for the kids and queen bed for us. We stayed in one of the lodges. There was a common room with a fireplace and some games we utilized, too. We had a mini fridge and microwave. We used those for storing breakfast and lunch items and the microwave for popcorn at night. Was a nice stay! The cross country skiing trails were great, even with the limited snow that this year has brought. Great workout and loads of fun. We did that with our kids for a few hours each day (January stay).

Ours especially enjoyed the summer sledding hill. The zip line was also popular, as were horseback riding and mini golf. It is now late season and a number of activities were closed - canoes, the pool. However there was so much to do, we did not really miss these. There was so much we didn't get to but ran out of time -- craft room, roller-skating, hikes. There are restaurants available. The place is beautiful, can't wait to go back for fall leaf season or winter sports.
