Amazing memory to have, if you're on the fence--it's so worth it! Our guide, Jamie, was great! He is very passionate, answers any questions, and can share not only history to the beautiful countryside but also a lot about the horses. We did the 2-hour ride, it was a perfect amount. You'll go up and down the mountain side, if you're lucky (or not I guess) you may see some wild animals depending on the season (we did not but loved the piece of National Forest you go through), you'll have a breath taking view, & the horses do exceptionally well with what seems to be difficult terrain. If you're skeptical of horses, this stable seems to know their horses very well and they were so calm and well taken care of. The team we met were all kind, respectful, easy to talk with, and are doing humbling work. Overall--a majestic experience and I'm glad we made the hour drive to specifically come to this place! Will go back in the future!

We had the most amazing day at Elkhorn Stables. We are a family of 4 with 2 tenable boys who have never been on a horse. Let me start by saying our trail guide James was so kind and confident building for our boys that they definitely want to ride again! The horses were so well trained that it made the ride enjoyable you got to take in the scenery and relax amongst nature. The views in the mountains were stunning.

    On the trail!

We had a great guide and the horses were great! The snow and Mountain View's were just what we needed!

Absolutely would go again when in Colorado! The people here were so nice and helpful. And the price was definitely more than reasonable considering the amazing views you'll get to see while on the trail! Not to mention it was the only stable in Estes offering rides at the time we wanted to go(first week in May). My fiancé and I had gone to Colorado for a bday trip and decided we wanted to go horseback riding. We wanted it to be more of a special moment so we opted for the 2-hour private trail ride. We're not really experienced riders but we have ridden before. Our guide was very attentive the entire 2-hour ride and also made sure to give us helpful tips about the horses we were riding (I was told mine liked to stop frequently and would try to stop to eat several times so I was prepared to handle that more so than if he hadn't told me). We were taken all over the property. Quite a ways into the woods and mountains, away from the buildings and houses that were down below. Our guide told us all about Colorado and talked about his life and listened as we talked about ours. We really liked how personal the trail ride felt and felt as though we had known this person for years. He really made the entire experience really comfortable and engaging. We weren't quite prepared for just how cold it was going to be that morning and our guide would frequently check on us throughout the entire ride which was nice. We even stopped for pictures a few times. If you have the time, definitely stop by Elkhorn Stables for a fun filled adventure!

My family was very impressed with Elkhorn Stables! They had a very friendly and easy going staff along with well trained horses. Our ride was fantastic and we would definitely go back!

My husband and I, along with another couple, decided to ride horses while in Estes Park. I called to make sure they were open and they were super accommodating! It wasn't busy so we headed on over. The place isn't fancy-just as the online reviews has warned-but oh my goodness!! We had the most amazing time. "Mom" took us up the mountain and showed us sights we never thought we'd see in person. It looked like a TV show. Patches of snow were all around us but the horse were so well behaved. This was one of our favorite things we did and I'm so glad we gave it a try.

The stables don't look like much but this place is awesome! First off their horses are in GREAT health! They are strong and sure footed. You see they feed them alfalfa hay (which is expensive) and genuinely care about the horses. Making sure the animals aren't abused is my first priority! We did the 2hr tour and the views were breathtaking! Grace was our wrangler and she was awesome! She knew so much about the land and the horses. And she took awesome pictures for us!

Getting started on the trail, it's really easy even when it gets to an incline.

Wow, what fun and for cheap! $50/hr per person. We had an awesome tour guide who breezed thru the rules and got us onto the horses in a pretty quick fashion. All the horses were lovely! The trail itself isn't much but the views are great and really, it's just fun to ride!!! Note: we took the 5 pm tour and the horses were hungry and tired by then so suggest to ride a lil earlier if you want a smoother ride. I will come here again!

Arrived at Elkhorn Stables around 9:30 AM. Hoping to ride horses on the snow, but there was no snow. The weather is unpredictable and can't be controlled. We had a BLAST!!! Jordan was an amazing tour guide. We did the 2 hour tour for $80 per person (great price)!!! The scenery and trails were beautiful. The horses were very well trained and the overall experience was fantastic!! We would definitely come back to Elkhorn Stables. My 10 year old daughter who had never ridden a horse felt very comfortable on the horse they chose for her. It is very safe for all ages. The 2 hour ride was the perfect amount of time. We feel like the 1 hour trip would have been too short. The time flew by. We were able to stop and take amazing pictures. We highly recommend Elkhorn and suggest anyone coming up to Estes Park MUST come ride horses.

I definitely recommend Elkhorn Stables. Make sure you make a reservation ahead of time. We went out in their morning time and it was a great time for horse riding and checking out the views. They are very friendly and helpful especially if you are new to riding. We will come again next time we are in Estes Park!

Authenticity - The old west comes alive here. There is no corporation running the show. This is the real thing. Trail rides to spectacular places on horses that want to ride. Led by read and local people. Friendly - A local family that has owned and run Meeker Park Lodge for-ev-er comes out to greet you and welcome you to their little piece of paradise. On-site staff often feature Ms Dever's herself, but you may also meet Chloe, a local high schooler who has been working with horses since she was 13. Barb may lead your ride...and she may sing you one of her cowboy (girl?) originals. Affordable - $35/hr (summer 2017) per person is a very good price for a spry horse, expert guides, and a lifetime experience. Beautiful - If you want Rocky Mountain beauty as it was intended...this is it. We've been on 1hr and 2hr rides to stunning places at Meeker Park Stables; from babbling brooks to rocky topped mountains and beautiful wildflower meadows to scented forests. These are real trail rides....not nose-to-tail dusty marches. You may get some trotting or even cantering in.

I ended up booking it because I forgot to get a timed entry pass to the park and this is one way to do it. I'm glad I watched the intro video to RMNP on their main page, otherwise, I never would have had this amazing experience with my 6-year-old. That's the minimum age for the horse rides and we did the 2-hour ride. I booked the 9:20 am. Allow yourself more time than you think you need to get there and get in the park. We arrived just a few minutes after 9 and the stables did call to ask us our ETA probably because a lot of people get stuck at the gate. As long as you follow the directions on their website, it's really easy to find. I'm glad I printed them out because the reception is really spotty once you get past the gates. We checked in by signing some waivers, used the clean restrooms, picked out our helmets, and we were matched to our horses. My son was the only "kid" in our group of 6 guests and he was matched last to a kid-friendly horse, Ace. My horse was Bandit and he was awesome, even though he loved to go off-roading. The ride was beautiful, our guide Olivia Mendoza, was amazing and so patient with my son who basically talked her ear off the entire 2 hours (I'm sorry!). Olivia was patient, would check up on all of us, didn't make us feel rushed, and made sure everyone was comfortable. We did the ride on our second day in Colorado in and it's a great way to see parts of the park you probably wouldn't unless you did some hiking, which I couldn't do with a 6-year-old. You go over a couple of little creeks which is fun, you go uphill and down and it was really relaxing. I would say 2 hours is a perfect amount of time, because my booty probably couldn't handle another hour. We had so much fun and all the staff were so nice and really sweet and friendly. Please book a tour with them, it's a great and easy way to get into the park (you get the timed+ entry to get to Bear Lake!) and the ride is fun and so beautiful. Thank you Hi Country Stables for making my son's first real horseback ride so memorable!!
