We took the kid here when she was 2. She was too young for a horse so she did a pony ride with "cookie." She still remembers the name of the pony. It was adorable, this tiny kid on a big pony and she rode with no fear. This time, the kid is 6 so she can do a regular horse. She's been asking to see Cookie again.

Took a group of 11 girl scouts for a 1 hour ride. This is what the girls had chosen to do for the final event of the year. Pros : 1. easy to book ride. I needed some extra slots opened up so my whole group could go. It was easy to contact them via email. got response back within 24 hours and was easily able to book the remaining spots. 2. communication was friendly and professional 3. arrived 30 minutes early as requested. It is clear where to park and also where to check in at. 4. Went to the window. This is when you will sign your waivers. 5. Horses were already ready to go. Pretty shortly after we all checked in and got waivers done, we got our helmets. They also had saddlebags available for those who wanted it. 6. You can carry your purse/backpack during the ride, you just can not get into it. 7. The helmet is required for those under 18. 8. They had the horses ready to go prior to our arrival. They chose horses for everyone and we loaded up fairly quickly. 9. Off we went. The ride was nice. Several beautiful views along the way. 10. Horses that liked to nibble they had a little nose guard type thing on them (it was breathable) so they couldn't stop for snacks with inexperienced riders. We had several of those in our group. Cons: 1. price is a fair amount higher than some other local spots in loveland or red feather. 2. the ride is horses nose to butt the entire ride, single file. Was not really able to chat. 3. our guides did tell us a few things but overall were not super chatty. We enjoyed our experience overall. They are highly organized and that was very much appreciated. They will take pictures of each rider near the beginning if you want a copy it is $10 per rider you want a copy of.

So you like adventurous tours? If yes - try this place out. Beautiful, beautiful horses. So gentle and good looking horses!! We took 2 hour tours. Our horses Hershey and Tsunami were awesome. Tsunami was one of their biggest, but so gentle. My husband was very scared at the beginning, but tour guides made it a comfortable ride for him. Scenery was awesome. We got to explore the sites that we never thoughts we'd see. It's good to be out in the nature and explore Rocky Mountains. We loved our experience and highly recommend it.

Really conflicted in this review. That staff was so kind. I've never ridden western, so I had a few questions on how to get the horse to back up and stop if needed. Staff said I wouldn't need to know either of those because the horses didn't really spook and they didn't need any space between them. About one minute into the ride ALL of our horses spooked. My daughter attempted to do a one reign stop which didn't work. My horse jumped in place and kept spooking. My husbands horse was pretty steady other than a little kick. After this all the horses were so close together we had no room to steer or back up. My daughter, who has ridden for over a year was so uncomfortable we ended the ride. This goes with saying no horse is spook proof but that's how these horses were advertised. If we didn't have some experience I don't think we would have been able to ride out the spooking. Again, staff was nice but more instruction would have helped. They did say they would do a full refund so that's really nice.

Our tour guide was very nice . The views were outstanding ! I felt the trails were quite steep and not cleaned up enough for the horses . The trails were very narrow and the horses had to overcome roots and rocks constantly . It was very steep going down and lots of ducking and avoiding branches and big roots in the ground . I think maybe I should have booked the hour ride instead of the two hour ride . I have bruises on my legs and ankles . That being said , it was a beautiful view and I loved my horse Aspen .

The ride, horses, views, and guides at Sombrero all made our two-hour trail ride the best! We researched all of the horse stables in Estes and this one looked very promising. Super easy to book online! Our ride went off without a hitch and we had so much fun. The family that owns it really cares about their history and the horses and you can tell they're leaving their future generations with such an awesome legacy! Can't wait to return on our next visit to the area!

We had a great ride w Sierra. The horses were matched perfectly to everyone in my family. My husband is 6'4 and Roach was just right for him. My seven year old is 40" and Moose was the right gentleman for a kid's first ride. Fence was my mare and she perfection. My son also loved his horse but I forget his name (Dakota? It was a town or state name). We did an hour ride since it was the kids' first ride ever and we didn't know what to expect. It was the perfect time for us, as we got to ride by ourselves. Sierra was engaging and patient w the kids, so much so that my daughter wants to go work there. We'll definitely do it again.

It was an excellent ride for an hour with the kids and a great guide that took us up the mountain. I would choose them again in a moment.

Had a meth addicted guide who didn't stop yelling at us or talking for the entire 2 hour ride. Horses had big cuts on their legs. This place is far too expensive for the lame area they walk you through. Website is a scam and no way to ever talk to anyone as phone number doesn't take you to a person so they can avoid talking to any customers.

Very reasonably priced. Paid 60.00 per person for 1 hour. Made reservation on line. Easy.. and they were ready for us when we arrived. BEAUTIFUL.. My horse name was Sandy and boy did she like living on the edge... literally. On a icy mountain and at the tip of the drop there is Sandy bringing me to the edge. Our instructor Taylor was amazing. Made us feel so comfortable. So professional. And Handsome... (oh.. did I say that)..... (LOL) He kept saying trust your horse. In my head I'm saying yeah okay!!!! Your not the one on the ledge buddy....(LMAO) The views was gorgeous definitely worth the trip and time. A must go for the experience in the Colorado Mountains. The horses are sooo beautiful. Definitely feel like your a cowboy/cowgirl.... Cheers!!!!

Great tour guide, beautiful views, fun day for the family. Horses were well taken care of, and mellow for my kids to ride.

I called three times and also sent an email, but got no response. Our reservation was for October 17th at 11:00 a.m. however it was 11:40 before I sat on a horse. Apparently there were quite a few Mix-Ups where the guides did not know they were 2-hour reservations, one hour reservations and a private tour all waiting to go out at the same time. The one guide who said his name was Nate introduced himself but kept walking back to the office without any explanation for the delay. All he would have had to say was "gosh folks sorry for the delay will be with you in a moment" or something equally as vague to acknowledge our presence and the time ticking away. When we finally did get on horses that seemed to be randomly chosen, the young man leading our group never spoke a word. He never small talked, he never introduced himself he never offered to take photos, or ask if we had any horse experience. The only thing I heard him say was to tell one guest to "kick her harder" after one of the horses was stopped on the trail. The ride itself was okay, but only okay as we seemed to just do zigzags through the woods behind the barn. I really wanted it to get better as my friend and I were very excited about being on horses in the mountains. The very end was when the young man held my horse while I dismounted and asked me if it was too dusty being at the end of the trail, when I told him it was okay his reply was "I hate it, I hate all of it" then he led my horse away and that was the end. We only ended up being on the horses about an hour and 20 minutes even though we had paid for a 2-hour ride, but by then then we were so frustrated, as it seemed so many guests were, we just went to the car and left. Overall we felt jipped out of our money but also out of our precious vacation time. The two young men who were guides could benefit from some customer service training. we were never welcomed, thanked, or really even spoken to. I wish management had called us back after leaving three messages. Maybe that's typical behavior at the very end of the season, however their website says they're open year round. I cannot recommend Elkhorn Stables based on my experience with them.

I ended up booking it because I forgot to get a timed entry pass to the park and this is one way to do it. I'm glad I watched the intro video to RMNP on their main page, otherwise, I never would have had this amazing experience with my 6-year-old. That's the minimum age for the horse rides and we did the 2-hour ride. I booked the 9:20 am. Allow yourself more time than you think you need to get there and get in the park. We arrived just a few minutes after 9 and the stables did call to ask us our ETA probably because a lot of people get stuck at the gate. As long as you follow the directions on their website, it's really easy to find. I'm glad I printed them out because the reception is really spotty once you get past the gates. We checked in by signing some waivers, used the clean restrooms, picked out our helmets, and we were matched to our horses. My son was the only "kid" in our group of 6 guests and he was matched last to a kid-friendly horse, Ace. My horse was Bandit and he was awesome, even though he loved to go off-roading. The ride was beautiful, our guide Olivia Mendoza, was amazing and so patient with my son who basically talked her ear off the entire 2 hours (I'm sorry!). Olivia was patient, would check up on all of us, didn't make us feel rushed, and made sure everyone was comfortable. We did the ride on our second day in Colorado in and it's a great way to see parts of the park you probably wouldn't unless you did some hiking, which I couldn't do with a 6-year-old. You go over a couple of little creeks which is fun, you go uphill and down and it was really relaxing. I would say 2 hours is a perfect amount of time, because my booty probably couldn't handle another hour. We had so much fun and all the staff were so nice and really sweet and friendly. Please book a tour with them, it's a great and easy way to get into the park (you get the timed+ entry to get to Bear Lake!) and the ride is fun and so beautiful. Thank you Hi Country Stables for making my son's first real horseback ride so memorable!!
