My partner and I just moved right behind Winter Hill and we go once a week, easily. Their beer is wonderful - they have West Coast IPAs and crisp Pale Ales - which is totally up my alley (I am originally from California). Unlike other breweries in the area, their beer menu is *not* New England IPA heavy (although they have them, and they are wonderful!). Beyond the beer, their food is fantastic. I HIGHLY recommend going on a Tuesday. The burger and fish sandwich are both phenomenal and will NOT disappoint (we've either gone or gotten take out from them 3 Tuesdays in a row). A number of mosaic beers can frequently be had here - transitory #2 is sweet, robust and smooth. Open for lunch, breakfast and dinner. The Cubanos are piled high with sliced pork loin, grilled ham, melted Swiss and a healthy dose of mayo. Pickles are crunchy and sweet in between the halves of buttery grilled ciabatta bread. The rosemary Parmesan fries are crisp and flavorful - fried hard, the present the aroma of rosemary and the flavor of Parmesan. If you are the one who like fruity beers I would recommend tropic lockdown, if not try terminator (my husband is a huge fan) And their delicious food - oh my god, I just love their sandwiches and wrap which come with sides of your choice. My friends and I stopped by because we were around the area. They have an outdoor patio but no longer allowed dogs anywhere at the establishment. It's a bit of a weird set up inside. A bit dark and It doesn't seem too comfortable. We sat outside and everything was so dirty. Food was on the floor. The glasses they gave us for water had lipstick marks still on it. Beers were okay. I ordered a cubano with fries. They gave me coleslaw instead of fries. I don't know how that got mixed up but the server was nice enough to bring me a side of fries. I loved how the fries were cooked but I am not a fan of the rosemary they put on it. It's an interesting taste. The cubano isn't anything great. Bread was dry. Inside is like deli meat and some mustard, cheese, and pickles. My friend liked his lamb burger. It was on the smaller side, the size of an English muffin (which I think it's a bit weird to put any kind of burger except a breakfast burger on an English muffin). But it was still filling and wasn't too bad. I wouldn't expect too much from this place. I saw a few tables bring cards and board games. So I guess if you're in the area and really need a place to hang out with friends and drink, you can stop by here. Otherwise I'd pass. read more

Interesting brewery plus cafe concept. Most breweries attached to a restaurant go for a pub. Not Winter Hill. The cafe layout and atmosphere make it more suitable for lunch than dinner, and there's certainly nothing wrong with having some beer with your food at noon. The Cubano sandwich and rosemary fries were OK. I ordered half salad and half fries and I think they just gave me double because portions were huge. The best part of my lunch was the butternut squash soup, which had a home-made taste and a nice crème fraîche design on top. Service was friendly. My Hefeweizen hit the spot. I mostly came for an event advertised as an Art Party artisan pop-up. While some things on display were cute, it was much smaller than I expected. Worth visiting for beer plus food, but the food by itself is probably not enough for me to make the trip. read more

In 2023, when the Emperor ordered all hipsters to be purged from the land, small areas were set aside as enclaves to study the species in captivity. One such was the Winter Hill Brewing Company. It had an abundance of their natural foods: IPA, artisan coffee, and fancy grilled cheese. The large windows facilitated observation, while the T shirt and hoodie shop kept them clothed. By maintaining them in this sealed but ideal habitat, we gained much new understanding of their complex behaviors and biology. The containment breach and Great Mustache Plague of 2049 was a minor setback in this otherwise successful endeavour. It is exactly what you would expect in a brewpub. Sandwiches, interesting fried snacks, and a set of about 5 relatively inexpensive beer taps. Currently very crowded, should chill out a bit in another month or so. read more

I want to start by being fair: they had great beer and there's lots of potential for this place post-Covid. I've never been here during Pre-Covid. However, I think it's worth noting that it's a pretty poor vibe in this place at the moment. Little things hurt: like when we first arrived it was dead silent even though there were 5-10 customers dining. No music, nothing (they later turned the music on). And everything is served in plastic and takeaway containers. And we never took our winter jackets off because it was freezing inside. I guess I just see some venues really doing their best during COVID and it didn't feel like they'd tried to make the best of a bad situation. I was lured in by the nice food photos etc but I was disappointed. I'll continue to buy their beer, but won't be back to the brewery, and I think that's a missed opportunity for them read more

I visited this place a year ago last time I was in town and made sure I made it back this year! I had an IPA and my fiancé had the stout...both amazing! We split a grilled cheese and added jalapeños, a good tip from the bartender! It was huge! It was definitely enough to split especially when your throwing a few back! The vibe in here is super chill and everyone was really cool. The bartenders helped us out with places to go around town and of course we would def be back to this brewery! Cute little patio for when the weather is nice and we took advantage of it. Oh, we even got some beers Togo because why not?! This has to be one of my all time favorite slogans! Winter Hill Brewing, in Somerville's Winter Hill neighborhood, is new to the already thriving microbrewery trend. While the beer is fine, the food options are worth noting. Came on a Saturday evening with a party of four at prime dinner time. Was surprised not to wait for a table. There is also a patio. Disclaimer - do not expect a large menu as most of the food options simply are there to compliment the beer offerings. In the spirit of Somerville, the ingredients are fresh and local. The crunchy sandwich bread and the spicy Korean brussel sprouts are the highlights. The sprouts are doused in thin red pepper sauce but promise this is a good thing. Perfect with their double IPA. Try a cubano (with ham, roast pork, mustard and cheese) pressed sandwich or maybe a few small plates. The caprese salad with sliced mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes are bright and drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Sweet corn gazpacho is fresh and cooling on a hot summer day, pureed with peppers and tomato. read more

Came here on opening night. Arrived at the right time because afterwards, there was a line out the door. The space is simple but nice accents - good space for a beer crowd. Started with the house ale. Light and crisp - surprising because it was labeled as a cream ale. Russian imperial. Wow. Chocolate undertones and strong! Definitely a repeat choice. The "brewmaster" seems like a chill guy and very personable. There is an outdoor deck that will be great in the summer. The menu looks good and will come back to try. I was in Somerville for a convention, and was famished after my flight into town. The folks at Winter Hill fed me the best jalapeño Mac n cheese I have ever had in my life. The staff was friendly, attentive, and helpful. The beer selection is small but varied. It's nice to see a brewery that doesn't exclusively sell its own beer, but I'd have liked more options in the darker beers. I tried one (I can't remember the name, unfortunately) that was like a thin mint girl scout cookie. While tasty, I should have known I was not ready to drink something so heavy with my Mac n cheese. They have a lot of events there too, which is nice if you are in the area! read more

I have been to Winter Hill Brewery pre-covid, and the food was pretty good. The beer and espresso have been the main draw, and those are top notch. But I'm writing because today I ordered coffee and an egg, cheese and porchetta sandwich, on a biscuit. And this biscuit was divine. Fresh fried eggs are essential to a good breakfast sandwich. Lots of good cafes sell sandwiches with pre-cooked, reheated eggs, and that's fine, but it's not for me. These folks are frying eggs to order, and the biscuit was perfect. I've ordered takeout several times in the last 6 months and I always try something different. Recently, we ordered the loaded mac n cheese (so creamy and brisket was the perfect addition - no skimping on loaded either), Canton Style BBQ ribs (smoked beautifully and not dry, the seasoning is a hint of sweet), Sticky Meat & Three (shredded smoked brisket, soft morsels of goodness), and a couple empanadas for that fried savory pastry treat. Great bar for a couple of drinks! I love that this bar has outside seating but during the 2 or 3 months that the weather is nice here the outside seating space is pretty full. Inside the place is larger than I expected and it's overall a pretty cool place. When I went, the place was a bit full so it took some time (though not very much) for us to get our drink order taken. You can either go to the bar and order a drink or pretty much sit down and someone will come your way to leave menus and then come back and take your order. All the beers that I tried were really good and they have some with really nice and interesting flavor. There is a zesty almost lime-y one that is very much a summer beer and really refreshing. I also love that you can get a half a beer. They also serve food and I wish I would have gotten some of them because they looked great and smelled so good! Went here for coffee yesterday morning, and it was so nice to have an option that wasn't dunks in the neighborhood! Coffee was great! I did not order food, but I'm thinking of stopping by for beers and grub some night this week. Staff was super friendly, and the best part was that one dude looks exactly like Carcetti from The Wire, or Littlefinger for you Game of Thrones fans. I know it's dorky as all get out, but I couldn't get over it that Tommy Carcetti served me coffee and was cracking up the entire time I was there. I probably looked like a psychopath. Had high hopes for this place after reading all of the reviews, but I have to say that it was just OK. A really cool vibe inside and it was a lot bigger than it looked from the outside. The gentleman who greeted us at the bar was great, making us feel welcome. We ordered a flight of all their beers, but the one with the most potential was their double IPA, American Slumber. I'm typically not a fan of DIPAs, but this one was good. Beers rotate frequently here so we are hoping to have better luck on our next visit. We ordered food as well, the Brussels sprouts and the spiced chickpea sandwich to split. The sprouts were charred and greasy, lacking any real distinct flavor. The chickpea burger on the other hand was dry and came on an untoasted english muffin. On a positive note, salads are offered as a side if you prefer something healthier than just fries with your sandwich. FYI - Parking can be a bit tricky as only the first 6 spots are available on the side with their patio and parking in the bank parking lot and behind the post office is only allowed after business hours.
