I think this is the first review I have written where I did it within 15 minutes of eating at a place. Of course this Wingstop is just around the corner from my house, so it isn't that unlikely but still.
I haven't been to an actual Wingstop in 4 to 5 years. I have had Wingstop wings at a Pizza Hut, but it is a bit different I think. I have been eyeing the opening soon sign on this Wingstop for weeks.. months even. Once it opened, and I saw that crazy crowd I decided to wait a while to give them time to get that first wave of excited wing eaters taken care of first.
I am off on Thursday, so after taken care of my Nissan Leaf recall (car didn't register that a person was in it... air bag wouldn't deploy... blah blah blah.), and I realized that this place just opened for the day, it was perfect for me to get there and out before daily rush. I was the first person here too, so that work out.
Owner greeted me, very nice woman. And once I settled on what I wanted (Garlic Parmesan, and Louisiana Rub) and fries. The owner gave me a Fresh Baked Yeast roll for free. She states that once you try them you will be hooked.
As I mentioned this place just opened so they still working out the kinks, but everything was nice and clean. TV's on ESPN, I didn't check out the bathroom, but I am assuming it was clean considering the place had just opened. The ketchup actually shot out water when I first tried it. I thought it was vinegar. lol. Come to find out that they were cleaned and the lines were not cleared yet. Really not an issue, at least that is assurance that they are cleaned.
Diet Coke and Tea available for sugar free fans.
I got my order. Hot and what I expected. The Louisiana Rub was really good. I thought it would be hotter because of where it is listed on the spectrum. But it was the right kind of seasoned similar to a rub placed on Ribs. Will get it again. I always get Garlic Parmesan. It was good. I have had tried some that have wetter coatings. This one is similar to the dry rub of the Louisiana Rub. Still delicious. Still my favorite.
You have a choice of 3 dipping sauces. (4 if you count the melted cheese) Ranch, Blue Cheese, and Honey Mustard. I picked Honey Mustard, but it didn't really go with the Garlic Parmesan. I had to pick up some ranch.
The fries were made fresh and I think the owner said they soak them (to remove starch). They have that slight dark color to them where if they were cooked a little longer they would be burnt. This have to be done with freshly cut fries though, otherwise they will get soggy when they cool off. These were good, better than 5 Guys where they also cut their fries fresh.. but don't soak them.
The Yeast roll was bomb. And I don't say bomb. It sounds too 1994 to me..... thinking back, not sure when people started saying it.... well I do remember that Dre and Snoop video where that girl says Dre album was da bomb. That was 1992. So lets say it was too 92 ish for me to say da bomb. But the roll was da bomb. Soft, buttery, hot. I almost got up and got another. I think they are 59 cents. Don't leave this place without trying it.
There are no trash cans around, which felt weird. I kept looking for a place to throw stuff away. The owner said to leave it at the table. She mentioned that Wingstop is a Texas based company that is big on hospitality, so the employees pick up the trays. Felt weird though.... even now I feel like I was being rude just leaving it there. lol. Looked it up and it was founded in Dallas. I thought that it was weird that I found this information out on Wikipedia and couldn't on the Wingstop website. Fun fact though, they have 2 Wingstop's in Russia. I wonder how that happened?
Even with the hiccups, it would be unfair to give them lower then 5 stars. All of the employees are brand new and were pretty much thrown in the fire these beginning weeks of the grand opening. With time they will get better, and issues with the waiting times should improve. read more
