Chicken sandwich with bacon and honey mustard
    Lona D.

I got a grilled chicken salad and my husband got a crispy chicken sandwich with bacon and honey mustard. The sandwich came with fries and he ordered some cheese sticks. The service was a little slower than usual but that was to be expected because there was a game in and the place was packed. Normally, when we call in a to go order it's ready when we show up. The inside was clean and had a good amount of seating. The server that assisted us was very pleasant. My husband enjoyed his sandwich and fries. I shared the cheese sticks and they were very good. The grilled chicken was a little dry and the salad had very little else besides lettuce. Overall it was a good experience and we will return.

Pulled Pork Sandwich with Tater Tots

There are two sides to the restaurant. One side is the family side, the other is the bar side. The hostess said I could sit anywhere in the bar side so I chose a bar stool at the bar since that had multiple screens showing two separate football games simultaneously directly behind the bar. As I sat and watched the two games, I began to notice there was no one tending bar. I asked the man sitting next to me if there was a bartender and he said that was one. I waited for some time for someone to pull me a beer. I got my beer and menu, then waited 15 minutes for someone other than the bartender to take my order. That was the only time I saw that person. Service was slow and seemed to be discombobulated. It was not at all what I was expecting on a Sunday night that didn't seem busy to me. It took a half an hour to get my sandwich. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with tater tots. The sandwich with their signature BBQ sauce was excellent. I received a cup of extra sauce to add more to the sandwich if I desired. I used a little bit but the sandwich had some on it. It didn't come "dry." The tots were pretty good too. Oh yes, the beer was cold and good too.

So we pick up dinner from here often. Spicey wings, fried pickles and a large Coke is my tried and true migraine kicking meal. My teen son likes their burgers and fries, and the hubs likes their tacos. Staff is always friendly and our food mostly really good. But they always forget something, in every single pick up order. Our last order came with half of our fried pickles being burnt and inedible. Our order previously had several burnt pickles, as well. What a sin, burning fried pickles. Especially these, because they are typically really good.

Thought we would give this place a second try. Big mistake on our part. People that came in after us got served before us. When we finally got our food my burger was RAW! NOW 20 MINUTES later we finally get it and it is burnt and dry!!!!!

It's basically just concession food. Really bland. Ok for snack food, but a lousy dinner

Be advised: Heavy's IS a SMOKING BAR…read more Heavy's Bar and Grill is a true family owned business that has been open since Sept. 2011. We liked this bar as soon as we walked in. To the left, as you enter, is the game area with 5 pool tables, a dart board, a video game, and a shuffle board area. To your right of the main bar is the dining and D. J. area. There are 8 6-top tall tables for larger groups. For those who need regular tables, there are many along the bar. You'll find a second smaller bar with 11 bar stools for super busy nights. Want to watch a game? Then you're in luck since you can see a flatscreen wherever you sit. Looking for a night of music, then you're in the right spot. Just check their website for the details. This bar offers something for every person who enjoys tasty food, music, a place to enjoy pool, darts, pull-tabs, and shuffleboard. The main u-shaped bar is large (30 stools), with many regulars who are recognized as soon they enter. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming to everyone. The menu has the typical pub food with daily specials. The appetizers are plentiful, and many are large enough for a main course such as the Heavy Slop Tots, Mile High Nachos, Loaded Potato Wedges, 5 Pepperoni Breadsticks or Wings. The Heavy Supreme Salad is different topped with sausage, pepperoni, and then regular salad ingredients. The chili, loaded or not, is good. Loaded is my personal preference, but hubby prefers just the small, diced onions. The past week, I ordered their excellent baked potato and topped it off with my loaded chili. So good! All kinds of sandwiches and wraps provide a nice selection to choose from, and each sandwich is served with one side (upgrades available). The Reuben served with onion rings was tasty. Both were a tad greasy, but the rings are deep-fried, of course. The 1/2 lb pork tenderloin is huge and can be prepared grilled or breaded. My husband has gotten it grilled, and he asked they add Cajun Seasoning, which they happily did. Another popular choice is the fish sandwich (cod or tilapia) and grilled or breaded. Reasonably priced dinner options include a Sirloin Steak, NY Strip, Grilled Chicken, Fish (cod or tilapia) prepared your way. Heavy's round's out the dinner menu with New Orleans Pasta or Cajun Chicken Alfredo Pasta and even Fajitas. We made a specific trip Friday evening so my husband could try the Slow Roasted Prime Rib. Your portion size option is 10 oz. ($15.49) or 16 oz. ($18.49). The server had raved on and on, so he was looking forward to a decent Prime Rib. It was anything but good!! As you can see from the attached picture, it was a lump of fat. Maybe it was just an off night, but neither of us will order again. The sides were great, and as I noted before, the baked potato is really good. Pizza, calzones, and Strombolis are perfect for large groups to share. Our servers were friendly, attentive, and hustled. Other than the extremely fatty Prime Rib, everything we've ordered has been good.

They have a rather large stage, so they probably have bands or entertainment at night. There are a number of signs warning of restrictions and it appears that they do a security search at night to restrict weapons and drugs. At noon, there were a couple people at the bar watching football and having lunch. We took a booth. Charisse, the bartender and only server was super engaging, attentive and went the extra mile to ensure a positive experience. Not only did she check on us, but the cook also came out and checked on our meals. We had 5 star service. The menu offers pizza, sandwiches and salads. Prices are reasonable. I selected the taco salad with pulled pork. The salad was immense with fresh lettuce, tomato and cheese. The pulled pork was good. The fried shell was a bit greasy. Otherwise, the salad was good and filling. My husband had the Big Western Burger which he raved about (and he can be critical). The burger was specially prepared medium rare for him and it was cooked perfectly. He loved the bacon, onion rings and bbq sauce toppings. He gave the burger a definite 5 stars. The table we selected was a bit cold (it was snowing out). Every time someone came into the building, a blast of cold came in. We probably could have moved but the table was already set. The bar is 21 and over only, so leave the kids home. I'd recommend trying lunch. They have daily lunch specials.

The AVG is definitely a neighborhood tavern. It's cozy and very laid back with high top tables. I ordered an Old Fashioned but mixed drinks weren't really on offer unless it was something like rum and coke. I had a beer. It was fine. We were there for about an hour and a half. I would definitely return. The vibes were slow paced. We moved on to The Checkered Flag. Wowza!! It was a Thursday night but the place was hopping. We were joined by another friend with plans to have a bite to eat. The menu is unbelievable. So much to choose from. We were kind of boring because 3 of us chose the same thing and the other two chose the same item. Two had the pork tenderloin. Both agreed it was excellent. Three of us had the BBQ Pork spud. It's a giant baked potato with butter, a good spread of pimento cheese, moist pulled pork, BBQ sauce, coleslaw and green onions. It was fantastic. Normally the pork can become a bit dry. This was not the case. Cooked perfectly. I was able to order the Old Fashioned. They apologized because they were out of oranges but I was fine. It was a very good drink. There happened to be two musicians performing. I was quite impressed. This tavern was very very impressive. We all agreed to return Our final stop was Herrmann. It's a small brewery tucked away off a quiet street. We were offered several tastings of the beers on offer. We were all able to find something to our liking. I had a porter. There are tables for four spread around the seating area. It's comfortable and definitely a neighborhood haunt. All three places were definitely neighborhood taverns. The Checkered Flag was hands down the best! Indy has so much to offer!
