We came in with our kids while shopping, and they had so much to choose from. I asked the girl at the counter about when the cakes were made and she said she didn't know. For me that's really important because after 3 days, it's dry and no longer a good cake. My daughter got a slice of German chocolate cake and she said it was good. The tres leches was delicious, the cake was drowning in the three milks mixture, just how it should be. We also got a cup of cookies and cream gelato, it was bursting with pieces of Oreo cookies. Great place, but they need to know when pastries are made read more

Got there at 10:05 PM and the vibe was already off. About 90% of the food was already wrapped up like they were closing, vibe was completely different from the River Oaks location. Staff didn't acknowledge us for a few minutes when we walked in. felt like they were hoping we'd just leave. We tried to be accommodating and ordered what was unwrapped or already in a take out container. By 10:15 pm they were already stacking chairs next to us. Also didn't see any of the complimentary water you get at River Oaks, and the cakes weren't nearly as moist. If you've been to the other location, this one's a letdown. I won't be back. read more

This place was very cute! We came in after a hot summer day and we were able to try some of the different types of ice cream! They have a variety of chocolate candies and chocolate bars. They also have snacks and different types of wine and a coffee bar, which is pretty cool. I had the mango sorbet and my boyfriend had the silky chocolate chocolate dipped cone. Everything was delicious and the service was amazing. The young man was very well mannered and very helpful. Definitely come by to pull off if you're shopping in the RICE village shopping center read more

5 stars is huge for a place like this because I'm not even a big chocolate/ pastries girl but Winfield's surpassed my expectations!! Me and a friend were just walking around the West University area when we stumbled on this gem and we needed something sweet so we had to go inside. The first thing that caught my eye were the optionssss. This is not a normal chocolate shop. There was everything from chocolate bars to chocolate labubus! Lyman's then on top of that they had cakes, ice cream, coffee, and WINE! The servers were really patient with our indecisiveness so that was nice. And when I saw they had a backyard patio with string lights?!? I was sold. Now onto the food: - the best tres leches I've ever had 10/10 - the dark chocolate covered Oreos shocked me by being my favorite 9/10. The PERFECT level of sweetness - the milk chocolate covered Oreos were up next as a solid 7.5/10. A little too sweet for my liking - the white chocolate covered Oreos shocked me by being my least favorite. The white chocolate was just really overpowering. So yeah if you're looking for a chocolate shop with OPTIONS and a great vibe, look no further. This would be so perfect for date nights or girls nights or even just a cause friend hangout. read more

After our holiday luncheon, we had to satisfy our sweet cravings. Chocolate bar was recommended. They have Texas size cakes, drinks and truffles. Everything we tried were so good. The chocolate in the cakes and drink were so good esp if you like dark chocolate. Highly recommend to check them out if you're in the area. Service was quick and staff were friendly. They recommended a few of the popular truffles. You can either by a box or individually. Place wasp clean and bright. Thought it was nice. There are seating areas near the drink section but we just took ours to go. read more

One of the best dessert bars hands down! When I'm home, the trip isn't complete until I grace the place lol. There's cake, ice cream and candy to appeal to just about every sweet tooth. I took my family in the last visit, and we shared a single slice of wedding cake. The slice is enormous and more than enough for three people to share. Another choice that's highly recommended is Aunt Etta's chocolate cake. Crazy delicious. read more

I went here tonight ordering a slice of Aunt Etta's Cake, which is my # 1 favorite here with the Black Russian and Strawberry Cakes coming right after it. It was colossal in size, very rich, buttery, very chocolaty, moist, firm, not too sweet and very delicious. It was also very well proportioned in cake to icing ratio and one of the best chocolate cakes in Houston imo. It's a blackout cake basically and great for sharing if you desire. Great, friendly, welcoming and efficient service as well. I didn't buy it this time, but the vegan raspberry chocolate bars near the door look and sound very delicious with a fruity, refreshing twist to purchase in the future. read more

This is my second time purchasing from Winfields, first time door dashing it! I needed it at work and decided to order . Upon ordering there was area for special request and I requested writing . The baker picking my order was so kind to call and inform me to let me know he would need a few extra minutes and to confirm what I wanted and how . I'm so glad I was contacted with concerns but it turned out great! Even the box it came in was cute, feeds a crowd. They focus on QUALITY . You can taste the goodness in all their items. A very diverse menu and their location is so cute and staff is friendly (per my first encounter ) The tuxedo cake is perfection for not too sweet , perfect flavor combo and I LOVE the texture! Anyways . Order you a sweet treat "sweet tooth support" as the box says! It may seem pricey but definitely worth it id say! read more

If you have not been here in ages, this is a sign you need to come here for some good desserts and see how different it is oh the inside. At first I thought this was a brand new dessert shop as the interior is so different than how it looked back in the 90's, gone is the purple, yellow interior and now they have a back patio that is not fully utilize by the customers here. It was so cold in the store, it felt great eating our dessert at the back patio. I had a gift card and the server explain to me the term for the card, great service here. read more

there was absolutely nothing special about this chocolate bar. it was aesthetically pleasing and the service was friendly. the desserts were flat and the wine pours were absurd. the price of everything felt hyper inflated for what was offered. i don't think i would return, but if you decide to visit.. i hope that you enjoy! bonne appétit read more

When I lived in Houston I enjoyed going to the chocolate bar in Rive Village. When I happened upon Winfields Chocolate bar I figured it was a new version and was worried but upon arrival pleasantly surprised. They have ice cream, truffles and cakes! As well as to go items pre packed to take home. I tried the butter pecan ice cream and the richness tied in the pecan flavor just right. It's defiantly something you should share but so good! We got some truffles to go and I would say they are good but the espresso flavored one didn't have aa smooth of texture as the others. All in all a great visit! Also they have a chocolate trea leches that was phenomenal. I recommend stopping by if you're looking for a chocolate treat or just a treat. read more

If Wonka ever went retail, he might hope to land Winfield's in a poker game (much to his chagrin, the latter is already a winner) - here we are, beyond the pearly gates! They have chocolate, they have ice cream (COOKIE MONSTER - t'is blue!), they have cakes fit for the grandest of weddings. Also my favorite and a smart choice if I may recommend with your chocolate habit: Rishi tea. Thank you Tyler for your enthusiasm and Southern hospitality! read more

There are so many options here, it was a little overwhelming, but the staff was so nice and helpful. They have truffles (so many kinds, prepackaged and not), chocolate covered pretzels, toffee bars, cakes, cheesecake, tiramisu, coffee, and ice cream! Unfortunately, I was only able to taste one of the flavors (caramel tornado; it was delicious btw) before having a mini allergic reaction (btw all of their ice cream (except the sorbet) is made with eggs), so I ended up getting the mango sorbet, which was also yummy (though not the best sorbet I've ever had). I would go back to try some of their chocolate toffee and coffee for sure! read more

Goodness, gracious, OMG! I was told to try this place since my Hubs LOVES all things chocolate. Yes indeed. As soon as you walk in, you smell the deliciousness and you feel welcomed. They immediately asked us what would we like and we had to do one look over first because it was just too much...too much to pick. The ice cream man allowed me to sample 2 of their ice cream and I chose the maple pecan because if you're from Louisiana, you know! My Hubs wanted a slice of cake because he swears these people have cake giants in the back making these enormous cakes! He got a slice of the Aunt Ella and they had the audacity to ask him if he wanted chocolate drizzle and toffee on top and he did LOL. My oh my and at the register I saw they have the thickest pecan brownie that screamed take me home and I did. $27 well spent. Seriously, go and get right. read more

The chocolate bar has changed so much over the years. The uncle Darryl's cake has really changed. The consistency of the filling is not the same. It taste more artificial than it use to especially when it comes to the filling in between the layers. I'm not sure what they're doing, but it's definitely cheapened the cake but somehow the price has gone up to $15. If you've never had the uncle Darryl's, you'll be fine, but if you've eaten it before just skip it and to Kroger. read more

The chocolate bar is a place I've been going to for years. I used to love the Willy Wonka-esque decor they had years ago, though the elevated current interior is also very nice. I was a little worried when the shop moved to a smaller area next door, but happily the quality stayed the same. When I stopped by this time, I was excited to try more of the delicious cakes that are very very generous in size. When I was torn between cakes, the server behind the counter offered to explain the differences, which was extremely helpful. I got the Aunt Etta cake and really enjoyed the soft chocolate cake with a perfect layer of fudge frosting. The chocolate tres leches was also amazing! I was only sad that their freezer wasn't working so I couldn't get the dark chocolate ice-cream. Next time! read more

Very busy on a Saturday night. However many people were getting things to go. I was expecting a larger selections of chocolates, however they did have a good balance between Icecream, chocolates, and cakes. So in the end they had a little of everything. Red Velvet cake: nice large slice of cake. The Icing was not overly sweet and the cake was moist enough. I am not a giant Red Velvet fan, but this was a gook cake. Chocolate Tres Leches: I love Tres Leches, and this was a good cake, but no where close to the best I have had. The cream was a bit bland and the cake was just a tad crumbly. I would say pass on the cake. Cappuccino: Was Good and a great compliment to all the sweets. Ice Cream "Junkyard flavor": Oh man very good ice cream I could have eaten a pint. So many great flavors in one scoop. I would highly recommend if you like cand bars. Its not overly expensive or cheap. And worth a stop if you are looking for a treat. While not the best cake I have ever had I would recommend checking the place out and I would return, for the icecream. read more

This dessert spot is a true indulgence. My top picks are: 1. Aunt Etta Cake - A rich, five-layer chocolate cake, perfect for sharing with four or five people. 2. I probably need to get better about remembering to take the picture before I start eating - but look at that slice! How could I resist?! I have a vague memory of coming to this place in Rice Village back when it was simply called "Chocolate Bar" but of course my memory may be failing me. The place has an elevated-Rice-Village feel, with tables spaced nicely, and with desserts galore. The Texas Sea Salt caramels look particularly interesting, but I couldn't allow myself two different desserts today. The cashier was incredibly friendly, and very attentive with each customer, despite how clearly busy the place was. The "frosting" (chocolate ganache, if I remember correctly) really elevates the cake, though I did wish the cake was slightly more dense, but oh man - quite tasty nonetheless. Will need to try the other chocolate cake slices soon and find a favorite. read more

Don't walk; rather, run to your nearest Winfield's to get your next indulgent chocolate fixing. This is the place to go if you're craving a rich, good quality dessert. They have a large array of cakes, cheesecakes, and mousse to choose from, with slices large enough to share between at least 2-3 people. I can't comment on the truffles but they looked and sounded absolutely fantastic. Their ice cream is also Rich and creamy and their sundae offerings were fantastic. They have plenty of indoor seating with a nice outdoor area as well. This is definitely the place to go for a chocolate or ice cream craving read more

The place looks very nice. Really nice looking dessert. Don't let it fool you. We tried a handful of different things and were not so great. The cakes were dry, will crumble and stale. "Oh it's not so much a tea room, more of a, well, chocolate palace actually..." - Willy Wonka. Actually, this place isn't a tea room at all, but it is a chocolate palace...a wonderland of chocolate, ice cream, cakes and treats! This charming place is the perfect spot to come to if you have a sweet tooth. They offer samples to try to help you in making selections. I tried two samples (one of their brittle with corn chips, and the chocolate drizzled popcorn), very tasty! What I came for did not disappoint...cake pops! They were limited in their options this go around, so I chose the white cake pop with sprinkles. The cake pop had a hardened white chocolate shell which was fun to bite into knowing what was "around the corner' - a moist delicious vanilla cake with sprinkles mixed in! It was the perfect size so I wouldn't feel too guilty about indulging. At $3.50 a pop, it's priced fairly. They offered a wide assortment of standard size cakes as well for any occasion, speciality coffees, espresso, and ice cream. When chocolate isn't the only thing but everything, this is the place to come! Why not treat yourself? You deserve it. Enjoy! read more

If you're a chocolate lover like me, when you go to a place named "The Chocolate Bar," you know it has to be good. When you enter the shop, you first see their ice cream counter with a wide selection of flavors. Around the counter, you'll find giant cakes that will make your jaw drop, and other truffles and small treats are around the bend. While the names of the cakes and prices were prominently displayed, I would recommend having more signage describing the cakes and ingredients, but the staff was helpful in answering questions about their items. For an afternoon snack, I decided to get ice cream. I appreciated that their counter clearly displayed the different scoop sizes, prices, and drink menu options. They offered as many samples as you wanted to try, and ice cream flavors were clearly labeled with all of the main ingredients. At around 5pm, they were out of a number of flavors, but the only flavor I ever need was still in stock: Creamy Dreamy Truffle. While I did sample other flavors, it was a no-brainer for me. Creamy dark chocolate always! The small one scoop was the perfect size for me and cost a little under $5. It would also make a delicious milkshake, but I didn't want to spoil my dinner. Another customer ordered a specialty drink and it was picture perfect. Plenty of seating was available. It seems like it would be a nice afternoon hangout spot. As their little ice cream cups suggest, The Chocolate Bar serves happiness in a cup. read more

It changed so much from the Chocolate Bar. The ambience was fun and happy, now its a candy shop.

Came here with a few friends, mainly for a snack and to hang out before dinner. dessert before dinner is always a plus. I sampled a few of their ice creams, their chocolate flavored ones were good and rich. However I really wanted to sample their flavors with Oreos but they ran out. But no worries, they have plenty of dessert options. Their cakes look so decadent. I finally picked the OMG cheesecake (after 20 mins of being indecisive between a chocolate cake and a cheesecake). I do NOT regret that decision. I love cheesecake overall, and this slice was pricey but delicious. It was not dense, tasted creamy and not too sweet. The bottom of the cheese cake was filled with a brownie crust with toffee bits, layers of chocolate mousse and cheesecake. IT WAS SO GOOD. Highly recommend this cheesecake. Also very friendly staff. read more

I'd like to go back to Winfield's to try more of their offerings because there are too many options to make a fully informed review from just one visit. I was in the mood for cake and ice cream, and plan to return to try out their actual chocolate. The tres leches was appropriately moist with a cake that wasn't overcooked. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but I think in the top 20 of the city for sure. If you prefer a less sweet tres leches, you should give it a try. The ice cream was AMAZING. I went for the brownie chocolate flavor, and it was so rich and creamy. A single scoop was more than satisfying. I had the brownie chocolate cake as well, which was good if a little overdone in the sponge. It wasn't overly sweet though as many chocolate cakes tend to be, which was a plus. read more

UGH! So sad.. I raved about CB to a friend who has never been. We visited on a Friday night and decided to get some ice cream. We got the Snowberry and Tiramisu. The Snowberry was flaking apart when trying to eat it. It was almost like it had frostbite? Very weird. We could not figure out why the consistency was NOT that of ice cream.. The Tiramisu was better consistency wise, however, it was not satisfying. I am super bummed because I remember Chocolate Bar being way better than my most recent experience. I also feel bad for raving about it to a friend and both of us being left disappointed.. Wish we tried the cake instead. 3 Stars for the kind staff! Note: They no longer offer 1/2 price chocolate covered fruit after 8:00p which is a huge bummer. :( read more

Hot chocolate 4/5 Black Russian 3/5 Tuxedo cheesecake 1/5 I am a huge cheesecake fan and I don't think I have ever had cheesecake that I did not like. But I guess there is a first for everything. The cake that really ruined my experience was the Tuxedo cheesecake. It was extremely airy and sweet. If I wasn't the one who ordered the cake, I would not have even been able to guess that it was a cheesecake. So for the first time in my life, I left most of the cheesecake untouched. The black russian was better, especially with its rich chocolate flavor, but was still overly sweet for my palate but I can see how this can be really enjoyable for someone. My favorite thing from the menu was the hot chocolate. The staff was extremely nice and gave me a heads up that its thicker than how some people likes it. Though for me it was perfect. It was rich and topped with whip cream. However, overall I don't think my experience justified the price at this store. read more
