Train!
Jazzy R.

Very delicious food the chicken was crispy, the French toast was not soggy and loaded well I didn't even need syrup. The cheesy hash browns are to die for!! REALLY good!! The service was fast and very friendly staff. The environment is very family friendly and clean! The decor inside is very welcoming and homey.

We really enjoyed our brunch here! The staff is so friendly, the restaurant decorated so nicely and the food was a nice surprise! We typically don't enjoy brunch or breakfast out anymore but this made us want to start going again! My daughter and I are vegetarian so we were a little limited on choices but decided on the egg in a hole which was AMAZING! And she got regular fries while my husband got waffle whatever you do get waffle fries. They are amazzzzzzing! We also enjoyed a slice of lemon meringue because they were all out of apple. The only thing I did notice is that if we can after brunch we wouldn't have many main course options as vegetarians. They should add an impossible or beyond patty (plant based meat) so the burgers can be made vegetarian!

Coating of dust

First time visiting here for the train experience for our kids. We were lucky to get a spot right in front of train track/kitchen area. We got seated and waited a really long time for a server to come by. This place definitely has A LOT of decor to the point that it's excessive. The restaurant was filthy. We noticed large layers of dust on the light fixtures near the train area. Old Water and coffee stains on the tracks. Silverware was dirty and the water tasted bad. The place was packed so service was extremely slow. My husband and I didn't particularly care for my entrees. He ordered Mediterranean omelette and I had florentine crepes. Coffee was weak. My oldest ordered chicken n waffles and she didn't eat much of it. Server seemed a little Annoyed by my requests and it showed in her body language/facial expressions. Maybe because they looked short handed. Unfortunately, This is a one and done place for us.

The perkolator skillet, garden omelet.

Grandmas house is always good. Fair enough prices for these days. And this skillet is really good. Very nice home like atmosphere.

Over easy eggs, hash browns , sausage, bacon, and toast.

Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Food is great. Menu has a variety of food. Food was awesome. We visit there every time we are in town.

I was a little hesitant about this place because the photos and the decorations were a lot but I actually really did enjoy this place! The menus are in actual books and I thought that was super cute! My boyfriend and I were both in the mood for sandwiches apparently so he got the triple club sandwich and fries, and I got the chicken and rice soup with a Turkey sandwich (soupandwich). My only complaint about my order was that the sandwich with the soupandwich is super small. It's just a half sandwich, which I expected but the soup was filling and really creamy! We got the mimosa flights and didn't expect much from it, but they were strong and really tasty. Def would come back! Street parking and there's a small lot across the street!

Your bill comes by elephant on the train!

New owners are doing some redecorating. When i was there today - our seat was at the bar and our meal delivered by a train! watching the kids at the bar was magical !

Good space. Nice atmosphere. Family oriented

Lovely family resturaunt, great food, good portions to fill you up. Old school. Country decor. Coffee is amazing. Staff is very friendly even gave us a to go cup of coffee before we left. Waitress was attentive , making sure we needed anything else. A hidden gem to get local food.

Lemon blossom.

What a cute little gem in downtown McHenry. Excellent comfort food with great service. The place is all decorated for Easter. Very nice ambiance.

Whimsical décor that goes with the season or holiday. A nice Family restaurant with good service and unmemorable food.

Food runners came out to our table multiple times with the wrong orders because our server kept putting down the wrong table numbers. It took us over an hour to get our food and one entree never even came out. The serve came out a few minutes later and saw only three entrees on the table and wasn't going to say anything, we had to point it out. She said she would go check on the food. Came back 10 minutes later and said it would be right out. 10 minutes later, still no food. We went in to talk to the manager and all she had to say was "if you had told us sooner we could have given you free drinks" as if we knew the food was going to take over an hour and a half. At this point our server is still dilly dallying, hanging out by the soda machine. One of her tables also waited an hour for their food and she rang in the wrong order for them and the lady took it anyway because she didn't want to be there any longer. It was busy, but there seemed to be no issues with tables in other sections getting their food in a timely manner, just her tables that had the issues. We asked to make the missing entree to go. Another 15 minutes went by before we had to hound her for our checks. I should've know the service would be bad when we first sat down and one of her tables had to get up and find her to pay their bill. Not the mention- the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and sinks don't work. Went to the bathroom when we first got there and a table inside wasn't bussed. Went to the bathroom again right before leaving, 2 and a half hours later, the table still wasn't busses.

The spaghetti dinner I chose came with a side salad and 1000 Island dressing was the thickest I've ever seen in a long time! The portion was so large I went home with half of it. Should I be concerned that we keep getting bothered by a fly on our table? My wife ordered the taco salad and accidentally ordered extra lettuce and boy did they add lettuce! Lol. The one thing I noticed was it was missing music in the background, a jukebox or something playing would've been better! We realized we were running late for an appointment and had to run out of there otherwise we would've enjoyed the restaurant more! To no fault of their own. I look forward to seeing us there again! The reason for this is our last two visits, Judging my mother for what she ordered and gossiping with drunks at the bar loudly enough that we can hear is absurdly rude. Sorry its a slow night but maybe don't judge a vegetarian for not loving bacon and mocking them to other customers. Its just a bad showing. We come here often, so to be treated like that is heartbreaking. Now, my mom can't be certain they haven't been gossiping about her pretty simple order, a wrap with no meat, the entire time. Also just turn off the depressing news on the tv's its obnoxious when we are sitting down and just trying to have a good time. Put on a fun tv show, the game, something else.

Small town summer nights + burgers that belong in the hall of fame dinner at D.C. Cobb's…read moreabsolutely HIT. The patio was PACKED, the weather was perfect, and the entire place had that loud, fun, everyone-is-having-a-good-time kind of energy that just screams summer in McHenry From the second the drinks came out we knew we were about to have a ridiculously good meal. We started with the mocktails and honestly??? SO refreshing. The matcha lemonade mocktail was light, citrusy, and gave the perfect little earthy matcha twist, while the piña colada mocktail tasted like summer vacation in a glass Creamy, tropical, icy perfection. We also tried their house-brewed Diablo Mexican Lager and WOWWWW -- crisp, smooth, refreshing, and honestly the perfect beer for sitting out on the patio during golden hour. Then the food came out and it was GAME OVER The chicken fries with sauce were absolutely addictive -- crispy, saucy, messy in the best possible way, and impossible to stop eating. Like every bite somehow got better than the last. And THEN came the burger Grass-fed beef cooked perfectly medium, melty cheese, crispy bacon, soft bun, juicy in every single bite... genuinely one of those burgers where everyone at the table goes silent for a second because it's THAT good. Paired with the truffle parmesan fries?? Unreal. Crispy, cheesy, truffle-y perfection that we kept stealing off each other's plates the entire meal But what honestly made the entire experience even better was our server, Tina J She was AMAZING. So friendly, attentive, fun, and genuinely made us feel taken care of the whole night. You can always tell when someone actually enjoys what they do and she completely elevated the experience for us. Great service seriously makes such a difference and she absolutely crushed it Honestly D.C. Cobb's just gets it. Huge menu, fun drinks, incredible burgers, amazing patio atmosphere, and one of those spots that feels casual but still delivers a seriously memorable meal every single time. If you're anywhere near McHenry this place NEEDS to be on your summer food list
