Extremely busy supermarket. The Parking can be super hectic, especially located next to the busy Home Depot. The supermarket is not very big and thus, it may be why it looks full when there is a lot of people. Prices aren't low but it seems the produce, meat and fish are quite fresh, with tons of varieties. They still give out plastic bags at no charge but those plastic bags can break easily as they are not very durable. read more

Winco is great because they are generally open even during holidays! They have a wide selection of produce - very fresh veggies and fruit, sometimes special ones imported from Asia. I got a Japanese hami melon recently and it was so sweet. Prices are fair, goods are well organized on the shelves, and the floors are clean enough. I like coming here to buy Japanese hot pot soup bases because I find the options can be better than at T&T and even J-Town. read more

I know some reviews have mentioned WinCo improving substantially as the years have gone by, but I sort of believe otherwise. I'm frequently in the area so I come here quite a bit - for a Chinese supermarket, this place is quite clean, especially their seafood market which has it's own space. Despite their efforts to keep the place clean and tidy (applause for that), I've started coming here a little less as I noticed their prices increasing quite a big, making it no longer the "cheap yet good quality" grocery store I knew it as. Things like oranges and choy have gone up in prices whereas other supermarkets have not (which confirms it's not due to shortages and other environmental factors that may cause inflations. I will mention another perk about them though, which is that they carry some products that not all places have such as certain snacks (e.g. Samyang carbonara tteobeoki which even HMart Richmond Hill doesn't carry, and even though both carry the hot chicken flavor, WinCo is slightly cheaper for this specific product. As well as those highly sought after brown sugar boba ice cream bar but are priced higher than places like T&T as they sell for $8.99 plus tax a box, yikes!) read more

Here in Ottawa we have only 1 large Asian supermarket (a T&T that has less selection and higher prices than T&Ts in the GTA), so whenever I'm in Markham, I pretty much hit every Asian supermarket within 5 kilometres of my hotel, to see what cool and unusual things I can get that I can't find in Ottawa. I found WinCo on Yelp and it was less than a kilometre from my hotel. Unfortunately, I was nonplussed. WinCo has no prepared foods section (sad face) No bakery (double sad face). These are my favourite sections at a grocery store. I found the place did not look as bright or as clean as T&T or Foody Mart. I didn't feel like wandering the aisles like at the other places. I really enjoy my shopping experience at Winco Food Mart. Though it is smaller in size and with less selections compare to Foody Mart and T&T, but some of the items are quite unique. Fruits and vegetables are always fresher and better quality. Last time I checked they have 3 different varieties of Pomelo and the size is larger than other Asian supermarkets. They also have a good selection Mrs Chan's vegetables (locally grown). Price wise may not be cheapest but the quality is worth what they are charging. This is a good alternative to T&T if you don't want to be in a mass of people every time you go grocery shopping. There's a good selection of produce, fruits and veggies to the left when you enter. At the back left corner there's the seafood department and meat along the back wall. Lots of noodles, condiments, snack in the aisles and frozen goods to the right of the aisles. Something new that I noticed today was the boba flavoured pineapple cakes. It's too bad there isn't a bakery section as I'm sure it would be popular among shoppers. read more

Place has improved substantially since I was there last. Great assortment of items from throughout Asia, frozen mango, durian and other mooncakes! Some good prices on vegetables. Fresh longan fruit and mangosteen. Still, lesser variety than other Asian stores. This is a lot better than before. 3.75 stars, does not quite make a 4 star yet. read more

Decided to check out this new Chinese supermarket after hotdog dinner at Costco. (Jan 23, 2017) I feel that it's similar to the seasons foodmart at world on YONGE rather than t&t. So prices are a bit lower than t&t and can be a good deal for stuff on sale. Now my concern is that quite a lot of snacks there seem to have expired or going to expire soon and the price tags don't reflect that. Some supermarket sell expired food at lower prices and state on the sign that the food has expired. But I don't see it here at winco. Idk... maybe it's manufacturing date? However I will be more cautious and really go through the package label to make sure I don't get any expired food, at least not at regular price. read more

Winco offers higher quality produce than many other Asian supermarkets. My mom comes here at least once a day as she says the fruits and veggies are very fresh and nice. When it first opened last year, it was pretty quiet, but now, it's one of the busiest supermarkets in town. The fruits and vegetables are higher priced than many other places, but for other items I find the price the same or less. I guess the price premium for fruits and veggies is for their freshness and high quality, but everything else it's the same item as other places. Sometimes I find some pretty unique items here, like whole frozen 貓山王 durian (around $16 per pound) and crab meat from Japan. read more

All reviews were pretty accurate, for a supermarket that sells medium to higher quality items than other grocery stores , this place is pretty small. Was pretty skeptical about coming here since the previous store was a pet store. Aisles are tight but they have a variety of snacks and instant noodles that foodymart/ t&t lack. Their fresh produce are a bit more on the expensive side but their quality and the way they display their fruits and veggies is pretty appealing; however, it's like playing Jenga when trying to harvest them from the big fruit pyramids lol I would definitely come here again just for snacks and their limited edition asian stuff you can't find at other stores. read more

I'm not fond of the Winco branch at Market Village, but this one across from First Markham Place is actually very good. Winco was formerly Petsmart, therefore when it first opened there was still a strong pet shop scent inside. The smell's largely dissipated now thankfully. Winco has a large variety of produce, especially fruits and vegetables, at a price comparable or even less than T&T. There's also a seafood counter that's secluded from the rest of the supermarket, which helps in containing the typical "smell" you get from Asian supermarkets that's not T&T. Meat is also plentiful, however at costs a bit higher than reasonable by Asian standards. Most employees here speak Cantonese, so if you're getting tired of the increase in Mandarin communication needed in T&T, this place is a great alternative. read more

Finally, we have another Chinese Supermarket in this area. WinCo has better and fresher vegetable & fruits, and their price is cheaper than T&T supermarket. I come here once a week for my grocery (esp vegetable, fruits, and snacks) I love that they have so many different fruits. E.g. they have my favourite Muscat grapes now~ They also have Muscat grapes directly from Japan this week (but it's like $13.99/lbs... so I didn't buy it...) I also love how they promote their fruit by writing "it's sweet", "it's fresh" in Chinese, and it's true. They put "it's sweet" for strawberry last month, and YES, the strawberry was soooo sweet :-D This location is a bit smaller than their Market Village location. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about coming to a grocery store that was a pet shop for so many years, but after walking in, I think they did a pretty good clean up of the place. There's adequate parking spots and it's located immediately to the left of the giant Home Depot. Immediately to the left when you walk in is the fresh produce, followed by meats and frozen goods towards the back. Coming around the perimeter of the store, is the stock of bread that is delivered from another place (there is no fresh bakery here). The inside columns is comprised of all of the dried goods such as sauces and snacks. I think their snack column is one of the more interesting ones because they have a wide selection of products. For example, there's different flavours of lays chips and a variety of snacks imported from Asia. At First Markham Place, I'm glad that they FINALLY opened up a grocery store, because I felt that this was lacking from this mall for a very long time. read more

Yesssss! Another Asian grocery store has arrived closer to the Richmond Hill area. I rejoice in the cheap Asian food basics and I'm so happy that I can get my necessities (watercress anyone?) when I'm done work. It is newly opened and it is quite smaller than other grocery stores, therefore this place doesn't have the same offerings and pre made food options. Prices are competitive or at par with other Asian grocery stores. Prices are also cheaper for vegetables and other items than longos but quality is probably not the same, especially the meat. You will not find the regular Caucasian brands here, or if so, definitely at a more jacked up price. This place is very similar to foody mart in terms of offerings and atmosphere, but it is cleaner. The store is easy to navigate and makes logical sense. Service is the same at all other stores. A side of meh but not rude. 3.5/5. Same quality and great value for your dollar, but being a smaller size unfortunately hinders them on the variety of items and the absence of pick up and go/pre-made food. read more

I came here after having dim sum. I can see myself coming here for groceries more often because there's a lot of good eats around this area and it's perfect to pick up some groceries afterwards. Never do groceries on an empty stomach. I like the interior design. It's simple and clean. The aisles are very organized and well labelled. The prices are average. TL;DR - This supermarket is overpriced, sells bug infested produce, and is filled with shoppers that will readily bud you in line or ram their carts into you. In a time and age when major Chinese food marts in Markham like Foodymart and T&T are able to mimic a pleasant experience from the mainstream counterparts, Winco is like a dinosaur of its time. It reminds me of when I accompany my parents to a Chinese grocer as a child, where it's cramped with an occasional cockroach in the pile of onions. Prior to personally going to Winco, my in laws have bought me peaches from here a couple of times right before coming by. They look beautiful - plump, heavy and pink. When you cut into them, EACH TIME AND EACH ONE had little fruit fly larvae wiggling around the core. Today, I needed some frozen spring roll wrappers, it's a prepackaged product sold everywhere else, what can go wrong? This place was tiny and packed with ppl that happily shove and squeeze pass you. Passing through the produce section, I noticed some novel items like Japanese lily bulbs, but everyday veggies and fruits are overpriced. Asparagus is in season and all stores are selling for under $2 a bunch...Winco DISCOUNT Special Price: $2.99. This was across the board for produce - some comment on it being "fresher and better quality", but I beg to differ with my experience from their peaches. Grabbing my stuff and wanting get out of there, the lineup area was a joke. It was smaller or about the size as your regular Shoppers'. There are half cash only and half credit card lanes, with no express lane. As I line up, there would be families standing oddly next to me (there are more people behind me) and as the line moves up, they try to squeeze their way in. I politely noted where the back of the line is and the lady would mutter "Is that the back?" in Mandarin and stay exactly where she was. I noticed this messy and uncivilized system is not unique to my lane but common to the lanes beside me. At cash, I was told that there is a $0.25 charge for credit card (under $10?) which is not noted on any of the payment method signage. Moral of the story, unless you really don't have a better place to shop, do yourself a favour and head over to Longo's next door or T&T down the street. read more

My new go to place to buy Chinese ingredients since their opening last year. I live really close to T&T but would choose to come here, especially for their fresh produce. If you buy produce here, I can guarantee that the it's fresh and in great condition most of the time. You see their staff picking out and throwing out veggies that didn't meet their standards (too bad though, I hope it gets used in some other ways rather than being thrown into garbage). They sell "Mrs Chan" veggies, which is slightly more expensive than their generic ones but her veggies definitely taste better - crispier, and sweeter. It's a bit tight space and harder to bring in your stroller with you compared to T&T, so come on a weekday instead. Any ingredient you need for Asian staples, you'll find here. Winco is conveniently located. There isn't another Asian grocery store within 2km radius. Even the prices are average, I can see people in the vicinity shopping here. The only complaint I have is the heat was extremely insufficient on the afternoon I patronized. Even the cashiers wore their winter coats. The shopping experience was uncomfortable. We are quite fond of this supermarket! We used to do most of our shopping at T&T but ever since we discovered this place, we hardly shop at T&T anymore. This store is pretty new so it is still very clean and well organized. It carries all of the stuff that you need in good quality and good variety. It basically sells a lot of really good stuff, there is always a good variety of fruits and vegetables, fresh fish and seafood, fresh meat like fresh whole chickens and various cuts of pork and beef. And best of all, the prices of almost everything are slightly cheaper than T&T. This supermarket is located next to the Home Depot right at the corner edge of the shopping plaza. There are a lot of cars driving in and out of that corner so it does get a bit congested at times. As another reviewer mentioned already, there is no bakery section at this supermarket and no hot food station. But it doesn't bother us at all since we would normally go to our favorite bakery and favorite BBQ house to buy that kind of stuff anyway. A couple of other pros we like about this supermarket: -The cashiers working here are fast. Chinese people value quick and efficient service and these cashiers meet that standard ... they scan, bag and cash you out very quickly and efficiently. There is nothing more annoying that going to a supermarket and having to deal with slow and/or incompetent cashiers. -Plastic bags are free (although we did notice the quality of the plastic bag was much better several months ago compared to now, but at least it is free, with none of that $0.05 nonsense that you get at T&T and most western supermarkets)! read more
