Bestco Food Mart is a large Asian supermarket located in Chartwell Plaza in Scarborough. Within the aisles there's a plethora of goods from Japan, Korea, Vietnam, The Philippines, china and more. We found that the ratio of products from Asian countries other than china is significantly higher than we've seen in other Asian/Chinese grocery stores. The produce is on the right when entering the store and meat department at the back. I was on the lookout for ube but hadn't seen it at other stores. There's frozen ube in this supermarket along with lumpia and turon. The breads section is quite large and next to that is the hot foods section with bbq meats as well. There was a section near the hot foods that used be filled with books and cds but now is Petit-Chef Tang selling Chinese crepes. When comparing prices to similar stores Bestco is fairly competitive. There are plenty of cheaper items but some are more expensive. They offer curb side pickup for groceries. By the cashiers there's many baskets filled with groceries and ready for customers to take them home. The Bruno compact hot plate seems to be all the rage these days and Best Food Mart was not to be left out of selling these. They were on sale for $119 and the various plates were available as well - takoyaki plate, cupcake plate, ceramic-coated pot and ceramic-coated pot with a divider. read more

I was looking for some Chinese/Lunar New Year decorations for a virtual food collaboration group, and thought I could find them at Dollarama. The manager told me they didn't have any, and to check next door at Bestco. Yes, why didn't I think of that? They had a large selection right inside to the left as I entered. I even found a purple Year of the Ox lucky amulet. The bakery section had numerous New Year desserts, including Nian Gao (New Year Sweet Cakes). Overall, I find the supermarket has reasonable prices, is well stocked and organized. This is one of my go-to supermarkets since it's usually well stocked, has fresh produce and is clean. The prices are pretty typical and you can expect a good selection of fresh greens, meat and seafood. They also have a hot food section and a bbq section which was recently renovated and seems to have been sold to a new owner (the bbq staff have all changed) with new prices to reflect the change. I gave the barbecue a try. Cha siu is now quite bland but the roast pork is still pretty good. read more

I would place this store in the same category of a new Oceans in Mississauga, C&C Supermarket in North York or Foody World in Scarborough. You'll find here all the departments expected to lure in Asian shoppers; a hot prepared takeout area, Roasted/BBQ/Brine/Soya meats, seafood, bakery with nice special occasion cakes, fruits & produce galore, sushi, a freshly prepared crepe counter, a large beauty products department, etc. My main purpose here was to look for one specific brand of instant noodles! Facebook users said it was in stock...but it was not the case today! Prices seem reasonable, competitive and the selection is good but keep an eye on expiry dates. Look for the specials! Bestco offers a huge selection of cooked food for takeout or dining in. They have the usual Chinese BBQ (pork, duck, chicken, etc.), dim sum, lots of cooked dishes, and lots more. A combo with rice, two choices of cooked food, and soup, is only $6.99. They stuff the takeout boxes so much, there's enough for two meals. Good deal. On this visit, I had Twice Cooked Pork and Beef with Bitter Melon. I only had half the soup and could barely finish the meal. It was good. I occasionally shop here for groceries even though it's out of my way but they have the best looking produce around. Their veggies are always neatly trimmed and clean. Today, I ordered take out siomai due to social distancing. (Covid-19 pandemic) When I entered the door, a security guard handed me face mask and instructed me use the hand sanitizer. All shoppers did the same. I felt safe and secure for my health. I thank the store management to step up safety measures to provide to their shoppers. As I looked around, I would say 95% are wearing mask. I spotted some shoppers not wearing. This store did not run out of supplies except tissue. The dinning corner was closed. The worst service. In the prepared food section, a worker was tagging discount stickers on food items. We grabbed several boxes, went to the register and the rep didn't want to sell us the food, stating that "I've never seen prices this low". So she cancels the sale. Accused us that we were trying to cheat the store and sends a security guard in our direction. In the meantime, I paid for my discounted items at another register without any issues raised. As soon as I walked past the first rep, she calls out and asked if I had paid for my items. What a disgrace and an embarrassment to spend $33 and get accused of not making an official transaction. Has anyone else had a similar experience at this store? For a register personnel, usually should keep your mouth shut and just do the job. You aren't paid to voice your unsolicited opinion. To the first register lady, I hope you don't lose your job over this. There are a hundred more boxes of prepared food items being sold and there are a handful of people flying over the area like hawks. Will you also accuse them of cheating the store with low prices? I think the problem is you. To upper management: you should be ashamed to have hired such a low-lying employee. I hope you are satisfied that she is doing such a poor job with following your company's goals and visions. She has the emotional intelligence of a cockroach and lacks standards for this industry, helping to turn your customers away. read more

Location is convenient (Brimley/Huntingwood) 2. The store is clean and well stocked 3. The hours are excellent: 8 am - 11 pm 4. Parking: I try not to come on weekends since it's difficult to find parking. You can try to find a spot behind the building. 5. Prices are comparable to other supermarkets and sometimes even lower. Great place to buy a case of mangos when in season. 6. They have a hot table where you can purchase cooked food and dim sum to go. Grand Opening Day at Bestco Food Mart was a nightmare... At least one for me as the whole neighbourhood decided to all come out to shop on this day?! If you have been to other flagship Supermarket: T&T, Ocean or Al Premium, I would tell you just come back when the hype die down. It doesn't worth fighting for a parking space in a smallish lot and then lining up with the Seniors that decided to stock up on bags of rice at $9.88 each, or Vita 6 pack drinks for $1.88. For people in the area, this is the biggest Asian grocery stores aside from T&T and the prices here are definitely cheaper. The selections though is quite standard. Hot Table area is kind of disappointed with the usual BBQ, Sushi, Chinese stir fried and dim sum. T&T definitely is way ahead of the game. Maybe it is grand opening day, a lot of the pastry and baked goods lack signges. I just could not figure out what some of the cookies are... I would definitely be back to pick up some odds and ends. 2.5/5 If Foody Mart wasn't a thing, this parking lot just might have won the award for the most dysfunctional parking job ever. Entering the parking lot was already a challenge. I decided to enter via Huntingwood instead of Brimley, looking at the huge lineup...except when I went to the parking lot area none of the parking guards allowed me to proceed for at least 10 minutes...like really? There were at least 5 times where there was a respectable gap between cars, and the parking guard stood in front of me, not letting me go. The parking lot itself was a challenge, but having experienced Foody's parking lot this one isn't even half as bad. I managed to find a space in about 90 seconds. This supermarket has a shortage of shopping carts. I went through every single shopping cart area, including the inside, and there were absolutely zero shopping carts. I did manage to find the small rolling carts inside after one person abandoned theirs. Food selection is standard for a Chinese supermarket, better than Foody (with better produce quality as well), and about the same level as T&T, with overall lower prices. The Pacific Gold Rice for $9.88 were sold out by noon today, even though it was a limit of 1 per family (though I saw a group of people taking 2 of them while lining up at the cashier). Hot food/sushi area was disappointing, ended up not buying anything. Lines were ridiculously long. I thought Foody was bad, but I had a 40 minute lineup at around 12:30pm, even with all 14 counters open. The English translations were horrible in the store. At the food court section there's a sign that says "Please Kindly To Wait Here" staring right in front of you. I saw a lot of Caucasians just staring at that sign laughing. I know it's a minor issue, but you'd think in an area where it's mixed Asian and Caucasians they would hire better translators. I would probably not come back unless there is a major discount in products I normally buy. read more

Prices are a bit lower than T&T, and basically the same prices as Food Depot and Farm Fresh Supermarket, but I choose to shop at this store due to its cleanliness and wide selection of products. This isn't the cheapest grocery store though. The produce in this store are all fresh, and quality really competes with T & T Supermarket. As an asian, I understand racism both from the outside and from within. But never had I thought I'd receive racism while shopping with my dad. This is our local grocery store and normally it's an easy process. In and out. But tonight was just different. Maybe the cashier was tired, maybe the cashier missed her break, maybe she had an annoying customer before hand, but this girl was one racist...... CASHIER with 0 customer service etiquette. And I worked customer service for 10+ years! My elderly father had just gone to the bank and for some reason the bank had given him a roll of loonies. Not my place to ask why, and DEFINITELY not the cashier's place to ask why either. Our total came out to be $45 which my poor father was paying $25 in loonies. Mind you my father had a stroke a year ago so he's lost half his vision and is a bit slow to process things. I did try to help him count out his loonies as I understand that he could be blocking up the line. As I was there counting the loonies from my father's hand, because grabbing the bunch from him would be rude, the cashier, in CHINESE, while we are chinese descents, made a rude remark about how we're paying with coins. ARE YOU F**KING KIDDING ME? Someone please tell me what the difference is paying with coins and paying with bills? At the end of the day they're both a form of money! Or am I missing something here where bills are more superior than coins? What I found surprising is she spoke Chinese IN OUR FACES to the next cashier like we wouldn't understand! If they could do this to asian looking customers, imagine what they're saying about customers that don't even look asian! This is a warning that during these times there are other ethical supermarket/grocery stores that we as consumers/customers can shop at. This is 2020. We have been doing our major grocery shopping in this location for over 3 years. We also shop in T&T, Metro, and galleria @ York mill. I like bestco's fruits and vegs, and Chinese and Asian products that you don't usually find (or over-priced, smaller packages) in western grocery stores. I also enjoy trying new products from mainland China (Popsicles, I stand noodles, and snacks, etc.) sometimes. One thing to keep I mind: DO NOT BUY MINCE BEEF (or pork, but most of time beef)! They are usually black inside!. just bought 3 pounds yesterday evening and this morning we found that they are all black inside so we had to throw them away! It is not like those "aged steak" which is processed professionally, it is just b My dad literally thought they used the food coloring to spray the surface to make the minced beef look fresh, which I do not think they dare to do. I ordered a small and it came piping hot and had at least half a duck egg in it as well as a few bits of pork. Very tasty stuff. I quite like this Chinese supermarket. Every time my Mom stops by, she always buys me the "砵仔糕" (red bean pudding), they usually have matcha flavour, yin yang flavour which is basically one made with white sugar and the other made with brown sugar and sesame flavour. The sesame flavoured one doesn't have any red beans in it though. I know they are made fresh everyday because the quality is good and the price is discounted in the evening to encourage customers to buy it. There is a best before date on it as well. The food sold at the foodcourt in the supermarket for takeout is decent, which is hard to find these days.. a lot of the foodcourt takeout at other Chinese supermarkets are mediocre, but I would consider the kitchen here a gem. read more

Was just here roughly 3 hours ago. And OMG, PARKING!! It was jam packed here!! Not only in the parking lot, but also in the grocery store! If you're familiar with T&T, BestCo will be nothing different! Though I do very much prefer T&T over Best Co. The prices are very much cheaper than T&T, but the choices of food (regular chinese fast food, disappointing dim sum, bbq & bubble tea) were just too minimal when you have T&T out there sporting out mini food stalls. The place was very brightly lit, quite decorative and beautiful with all the grand opening stuff, and was nice and spacey, despite the amount of people that were here! I probably won't be coming back here, as there's just so much more better grocery stores out there. I did appreciate their vast selection of Filipino stuff, that I really haven't seen anywhere else (non-filipino places), even T&T!! It was all in the same isle with Japanese, Korean, Viet and Taiwanese food, which was another plus for me! As I mainly do Japanese, Korean and Filipino cooking at home!! But it isn't bad! This is a great Chinese supermarket. It's clean, spacious and has a great selection of products. Their prices are on par with T&T and Foody-Mart. They have quality produce and the fish and meat departments are great also. Bakery goods are not bad, I've purchased cakes and their house made breads which were both good. They have an extensive hot food table. I come here often to get takeout dim-sum on the weekend. Their dim sum is very good and they offer some selections in their frozen food section. Your standard Chinese grocery store with the usual sections: - They have a huge produce section complete with nicely prepped Chinese veggies that are pre-bundled. One of the outrageous prices I saw was $13.99/lb of seedless watermelon! You can tell they aren't in season this time of year! - Seafood counter with all manner of live or freshly prepped items. I saw a lot of fresh lobsters added to the tanks this afternoon. - Butchers counter that routinely has more "exotic" meats like goat and fresh lamb legs. Their meat section is pretty stocked with specialty items. There was a case with thinly sliced hot pot meats, lots of stew ingredients (literal bags of soup bones, soup chickens) and fresh ducks, geese and rabbits. - Hot counter with dim sum items and supper dishes as well as a BBQ counter. I do appreciate that they have ample wheelie baskets for those us that are too lazy to get a cart. They usually have a lot of check out lines open but it still can get a little crazy. I want to point out that they have return baskets at the front for anyone that has any doubts at the register which is way better than customers leaving raw meat in the aisles when they decide they don't want it anymore. One kind of big deterrent is how bad that parking lot can get at busy times. I strongly recommend that pedestrians find their way to an island because the drivers are pretty aggressive over their spots! read more

I like Bestco. For me, it is a large No Frills with a Chinese specialization. Reasonably clean and decent pricing. It's a large supermarket with good amount of selection. For the most part, their flyer specials run on for the entire (flyer period) week, as opposed to just the weekend. I do nearly most of my grocery shopping here at Bestco (it's nearby and convenient for me). It has the Chinese greens that I like, and a decent-enough-quality of salad greens for my ("Western"/"White") salads. You can get two decent quality romaine lettuce heads for about $1.00-$1.50. I think I purchased a beautiful, large head of red-leaf lettuce (labelled as green-leaf) for around $0.70. Then, there are your regular carrots, tomatoes, celery, etc. I only mention the lettuce because, oftentimes, the lettuce is wilted at Chinese groceries. Not to say that this place is the exception. But, it is an exception most of the time. (There have been a few instances where I have seen wilted edges on the green leaf lettuce. The romaine is generally a winner.) Their meat counters often have specials. The only problem (aside from the language barrier for me) is that the meat specials often sell out by the time I come grocery shopping in the evening. I like that they have a small section for discounted produce that is going bad/not-up-to-par. I see workers re-organizing and sorting the produce into containers. You can see the workers clean the meat and seafood counters at night, closer to closing. It's nice to see that there is some sort of standardization going on. The store is still fairly new and it is still shifting around it's organization of their shelf items. I hope they fix that soon, because it's somewhat chaotic for me and it's difficult for me to find the items I want. It has a small food court, but I have never tried their food court items. They offer baked goods, breads, cakes, stir-frys, bbq meat, sushi, and probably another array of items I missed. Since summer is right around the corner, they are currently selling small containers of flowers and vegetables. I found kale! The only place I have seen it in Toronto so far. Small containers of four seedlings are $1.29/each. I believe they also offer Chinese vegetables as well, but I cannot read the Chinese labels. In terms of parking, it is a breeze on weekdays. And a nightmare on weekends. All the roads leading to the entrances/exits of the Chartwell Plaza/Bestco are cracked and filled with huge potholes. Open until 11pm everyday/7 days a week. When I was giving the ratings for this place, I was a little torn. I like this place because I always go to the dim sum place next plaza. So its convenient to buy groceries and whatnot. Its new, prices are okay, fairly clean, what's not to like? Well let me begin, don't ever buy the meats on sale. The meats that are on sale are never properly trimmed. So when you go home you are left with a lot of useless stuff that you have to spend a long time trimming. After you trim away the useless stuff you are left with a small piece of meat and it costs about the same as it would regular price. This happened to my family and a few friends who bought meats on sale. Now onto produce. Never buy the Chinese Vegetables in a large bag. I bought a few bags of baby bak choi and the ones outside where you can see through the bag looks really fresh and clean. But once I go home and remove them from the bag, the ones hidden in the middle were all yellow. Not just old or wrinkly, but yellow to the point where its probably been in the store for weeks. So then I am left with a little bit more than quarter of a bag. This has happened twice in two months, that only proves to me that this is regular practice. I do love the fact that this place has a lot of cashiers. I have never had to wait for more than 5 minutes to pay. But I hate how one or two of them are extremely rude. She wouldn't bag your groceries for you and starts scanning the next customers' groceries. Then she will stare at you and give you the look as if you are an inconvenience. Overall this place has similar prices as the larger supermarkets in this area. But their quality isn't as high as T&T. They also lack the choices T&T has to offer. I have tried their foods in the food court and I like how they aren't overly salty or loaded with lots of msg. But choices are limited. Parking spaces in this plaza isn't so bad, as with all other supermarkets go at an odd hour if you want more spaces. If you go at rush hour, then be prepared to fight for a spot - like you would with any other supermarkets. read more

Bestco is just another T&T supermarket.... I did not get to see the place, only the food court. The food court is quite disappointing as compare to other supermarkets. Even though the prices are cheaper than T&T, the food there is below average. The sushi and dim sum is disgusting much like that supermarket, the chicken/pork buns are somewhat decent and the rest like chow mein and other cafeteria-style meals served there are nothing special. The place wasn't as dirty that I thought it would be regardless of it being new. Although other things like drinks are cheap! They happen to have bottles of lemon tea, three for a dollar! As a recently opened supermarket, its quite nice for people who don't have to go up north to T&T and a even better option than that small and cramped grocery store in the mall across from there. read more

Fresh Fish & Meat area is very clean but the aisles themselves were quite difficult to navigate only because all the packaged food were all over the place like the chip aisle was like 4 aisles down from the cookies, etc. Anyways moving onto the food court. Lots of selection of dim sum (which is mediocre), typical Chinese food items and BBQ meats and sushi. Overall, pretty good. Parking space is good but bike space not so good as there is only one bike rack which is always full thanks to the employees (maybe?) parking their bikes so I have to go park it elsewhere and honestly not too happy to come out and find it accidentally locked in with another person's bike lock (GRR!) Today after I check out, I have sat near by ( more than 3 feet from cashier counter) and waiting for my husband to come to carry grocery bags for me because I had foot surgery and unable to carry heavy bags .
