This is a smaller Metro so there isn't as much variety. It is open 24h so that's nice. It is in the College Park set of buildings and is very close to the College subway station. I've been coming to this Metro for about 20 years (a long time ago it was called Dominion). The main reason I've been shopping at Metro is for their "Irresistibles" brand of ice cream and frozen pizza. Sometimes their seedless grapes and toilet paper are cheaper than Loblaws and Shoppers. As such I gave them 3 stars. I barely buy anything else at this Metro because I enjoy my grocery experience at other stores better. However early 2019, they added self-checkout which was a welcome addition since lineups at the cashiers (esp after work) are extremely long. I've used self-checkout at Loblaws and Shoppers for years. For the past year or longer, Loblaws and Shoppers no longer weigh the merchandise after scanning them. They determined that it was bothersome and they could trust their Canadian clientele. I first used the Metro self-checkout soon after they opened them to the public, maybe a year ago.. Boy would it dumb and infuriating! Today, 2019-11-12 was my 4th time using them (I usually avoid using them unless the lineups at the cashier are crazy long). On my first usage, I had to complain to a manager and he was quite receptive. If you choose to use your own grocery bags (or don't want to use any grocery bags), you have to wait for a staff member to login and verify that you have put your bags on the weighing platform. If you choose to use the Metro grocery bags, you have to wait for a staff member to login and verify that you have not put extra things on the weighing platform. At the end, it asks "Do you have any coupons?" I asked the staff member if they meant paper coupons or electronic coupons; she didn't know! In all, a very frustrating experience especially when all the self-checkouts are full and the one staff member has to run around like a chicken with their head cut off! I spoke to a manager and told him that things don't need to be verified. They can trust us since Loblaws and Shoppers trusts us. Also everyone has to wait for a busy staff member to verify things before we are allowed to proceed. What is the purpose of having slow self-checkouts vs slow human checkouts? Also I told him the question at the end should be "Do you have any paper coupons" which is an easy text change! He agreed. Well, I test using the self-checkout every few months and nothing changed. So today, it was extremely busy and I got upset with them. At first the staff member didn't want to call a manager because she said she is busy running around. Exactly my point! Metro pays a person salary to run around all day verifying things. What a waste of human labour and expense and delaying customers who are in a hurry. She finally called a manager who happened to be standing about 40 metres away. I spoke to Justin, the assistant store manager. I told him exactly the same things the told the first manager a long time ago. He just listened. I said they are not listening to customers (over time, I've heard other customers complain). I did say I would write bad reviews on Google and Yelp and include his name, and he is ok with that. They lost 1 star due to their self-checkout stupidity. read more

Great little 24 hour supermarket that has a little of everything. Aisles of dry, jar and canned goods line the shelves. Cooked meals. Pre made sandwiches and cold cuts by the pound. Reminds me of a Whole foods/Fairways type setup like we have back in the U.S. but of lower quality, not that it's a bad thing. I bought a small case of water and some cup ramen. I am a paying customer, and today, Dec 29 at around 6 pm I went to the College Park Location, to pick up a few things. I bought a cake and a few cookies and took my stuff to the Auto CheckOut. I rang the things in, then spied some red grocery bags and took one. Well...as soon as I reached the machine again, this tall, middle aged clerk ran over, elbowed me out of the way and punched in the bag, rang up.the total and left. Very RUDE! If I wanted help, I'd have asked. I asked him, nicely if he thought I was stealing the bag. He shrugged, grunted, and moved along. read more

a better then normal metro, ive been coming to this location for over a decade and they have never failed me from a stocking standpoint, i imagine it would have to be pretty hard for a downtown grocery store to be out of something, but "luck" i suppose has been on my side in this situation. i really enjoy the hot table at this location as well as the cold pastas, salads and sushi selection. the staff are always busy at this location but if you ask for help they are among some of the friendliest staff i've dealt with. this grocery store isn't connected with the rest of the downtown path network, but this is a quick exit from the college subway station, no going outside which is clutch with visiting in bad weather. transit options are college ttc subway station and the 506 college streetcar, both options come with a bit of a walk as you will have to access this grocery store as its completely below ground. parking is in the area, but it would be above or below private lots with a bit of a walk, nothing directly on site. would go out of my way to come to this location. read more

I was surprised to see French macarons at this location (Yonge & College). They are in the glass display case at the bakery section. I went late at night, and a very nice manager got them out for me. They had two flavours: Strawberry Chocolate and Pistachio, $1.59 per macaron. They were huge and did not embody true macarons at all. Very dense, cakey cookies. For the unfamiliar or the macaron enthusiast, these are not authentic macarons in the least! So, they have revamped the Metro at College Park. Went in, looking for 2 items that were in the flyer. Both not available- may be delivered later that night according to a manager. First day of sale, before 5pm - Empty shelves. I am very over this "lost leader" crap they are constantly pulling. To put it bluntly- they are putting lipstick on a pig. The LAST of the renovation was to put up signs stating what was available on each aisle. Red flag. Loblaws and Sobeys are now my go to stores. Rethink your goals Metro. read more

This Metro is quite popular for the lunch crowd as I have passed by quite a few times and seen it packed. In addition this is one of the bigger 24 hour spots in this area (there is a bigger metro 10 min walk that is off the main drag) as it was my go to place for after midnight stuff when I stayed at the Hotel nearby. The variety here is OK and I would say it is comparable to mid level store. One can expect the usual selection of ready to eat items, frozen foods etc. However where it really falters is service. I have witnessed and experienced very poor service at this location on numerous occasions. On one occasion it got so bad I had to even talk to the Manager and I was told the service issue would be rectified but nope not even a follow up phone call. I had to contact the HQ to get things rolling. Well I guess they are not pressed for business so they don't care about improving. A very poor store in terms of service so be warned as you might end up being on the receiving end of it without cause. read more

This Metro, despite the address on Yonge Street, is located in the underground level inside College Park, and has been there back when it was Dominion for as long as I know. Despite the precious retail space in this downtown location, this Metro makes good use of its space. The entrance is a little funky as there's only one true entrance facing the food court, which means you have to walk around if coming from the subway station. Aside from decent quality food here, this Metro has a very good floral section for those wanting to buy flower bouquets for whatever occasion. Cashiers are overall okay, though I wish they smile a bit more here. It's a busy store, show some customers happiness, especially those who might have had a tough day at work! read more

If I could give it a big fat ZERO I would. I've been living close to this store for the last 4 years, so I shopped there a lot in the first couple years, but I avoid it now like the plague. Unless I am desperate and FarmBoy is closed, I will not go in. There are many reasons as to why, but mostly because prices are inflated and I'm not into being abused, for any price. During covid I was treated so incredibly rudely I almost wanted to cry. When I finally decided to call the manager and complain after the third time, I was hung up on. Basically, I needed to bring my little wheely cart/bag because I cannot carry items due to nerve damage in my arms. The fights I had over this during covid were ridiculous. The looks I got where like as if I was a criminal. It's like saying to someone in a wheel chair that they can't shop there because of covid. In other words tough luck if you have a disability or accessibility issues. Nor we will help/assist you either. After covid the abuse continued. At one point at self check out I was entering the code for bananas, and the awful woman supervising the check out said to me " The code is (blah blah blah), CAN'T YOU SEE???" NO, I CAN'T SEE the teeny tiny code on the label, I am 50 yrs of age, wearing glasses, but not my reading glasses, and was satisfied looking it up on screen by my own self without her rude interruption. I didn't ask her for help. Nor did I ask to be so rudely spoken to. In other words: harassed. YUUUUCK! Avoid this place unless you love abuse and inflated prices. If you are someone who frequents this grocery store and would like to be able to continue going here, do not read this review. I went in at 9:30 pm on Monday night. The deli counter closes at 10 pm, so they usually start cleaning up around this point. One of the deli women was far away from the meat section, cleaning and whatnot. The other one was spraying the insides of the meat display case and she was the one I gave my order to. I asked for some slices of the chicken on sale. She was looking for it (first strike: didn't change her gloves, which she had been wearing while using cleaning product) when the other lady on the other side of the entire section says she has it. Then they decide THIS is a good idea: she takes the UNWRAPPED chicken rump (which they then put in the slicer) and THROWS IT across the way to the other woman. Of course, it falls, first landing on the wall, then rolling across the counter and stopping behind one of the machines. Did I mention it was unwrapped? So now the entire chicken rump has picked up whatever it has rolled in. It was repulsive and definitely against health standards. Her: "So how many grams do you want?" WHAT. So why the Hell did I give it two stars? Because it's 24 hours and convenient. That's about it. read more

Born and raised in the burbs, I took for granted the availability and abundance of grocery stores there were. Having lived in the city for about 5 years now, and having had a car for about 4 of those 5 years, I didn't have to deal with urban walk to and from locations. I've been doing my best to not shop at grocery stores in the winter - doing bigger buys when my parents would come with me (so I could abuse them for their car) and have been living off fast food for the most part, but since I'm back on the weight loss and healthy eating wagon, I had to do a shop. After a HUGE breakfast at Daybreaks on Sunday I traveled over to Metro at Yonge and Carlton to do my shop. Paul S hit it right on the head, this is NOT the place to do your real shopping.....the prices are insane (I managed to get out of there with only spending $100), but I'm sure that's only going to last me 2 weeks.....if that. The aisles are narrow, the check out is a giant clusterf**k, the selection is horrid, and the staff have no idea what the hell to do. The only person who impressed me was the check out lady - she was amazingly fast, friendly and very organized. They need to get ride of their "flower" section and open that up to be the express check out. If you have another place to shop - do it..... read more

The opening of the new Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens is probably the death knell for this place -- and will likely only be mourned by its employees. This grocery store was never all that great, but it was darn convenient and serviceable enough. Then, the Sobeys opened upstairs. I'm personally not any more a fan of it than I am of this Metro, but people seemed to be drawn in by the "Ooo, shiny" of a new kid on the block and the crowds at Metro thinned out noticeably. Then came the new Loblaws a block away, arguably the best chain grocery store in the city, and that was it. The few times I've come in here since, it's shabbier, more depressing, less cared-for, and emptier than ever. (And, no, I don't work for the competition, I am just calling it like I see it.) Case in point: just sent the hubby there to pick up a couple things, thinking we might save a couple bucks off the same bill of fare at Loblaws. He returned home only to discover that the milk he bought was expired -- by two weeks! Now he has to go back and those couple dollars saved are lost in wasted time. We'd almost expect that from a corner store, or possibly even No Frills (and thus he would have checked the expiration date before heading to the checkout), but not a full-price, non-discount grocery store. And, if it's taking that long for a staple like milk to turn around, it's probably a sign of the end. At this point, I just hope that the inevitable future tenant utilizes the space well for whatever it becomes. read more

Do you like shopping for groceries in a dimly lit cave? Then you'll love this metro! It makes everyday feel like a nasty rainy day! With that said, sadly you'll find me here most days to pick up food items (until a certain grocery giant opens... tomorrow!!!!) . They have decent weekly deals and has the basic selection of produce that you may look for on a daily basis. They recently half-renovated, i.e. put in new produce shelves.... I am not quite sure the purpose. Does it really make those grapes and carrots look better? I thought it did the first day I saw them, and have long forgotten about them since. The cashiers are 97.5% unfriendly which really dampens my already drab, gloomy mood. But I guess that makes the occasional super cashier really really saintly in my eyes. God bless them. This Metro is good considering it's prime location. The store is very central and right next to the subway station - you don't even have to go outside! The selection isn't mind blowing, but it isn't a huge store so what do you expect. The prices are fair for downtown - by no means are they cheap but there isn't a huge mark up either. Pick up a flyer on your way in - this store tends to have good deals, especially on fresh fruit. Beware though - the fruit isn't always so fresh looking, take a look before you put it in your cart! read more

I mean, it has a good selection of products, and each department is a decent size, but I'd personally prefer to shop somewhere else. This Metro is on the lower level of College Park. I find it is bigger, and has better variety compared to the Sobeys upstairs, so I usually stick to the Metro... Unless I'm in a rush. This Metro has to have some of the absolute slowest cashiers in existence. Granted, many of them are on the older side and a couple of them are friendly (though most of them quite the opposite,) but still, if you are on a time limit I'd suggest going upstairs to the Sobeys. Even if the line SEEMS short, you'll probably be waiting much, much longer than you'd expect. Tons of registers, but rarely cashiers manning all of them. This Metro gets quite busy during the lunch hour and between 5-7pm. To the positive: I love the soups on rotation at this Metro! The Cauliflower Garden and Chicken Noodle are my favs. However, I wish they would put up a daily soup calendar, since they change daily and you never know what to expect when you get there. Not my favourite place. I try to only go in outside of the busy hours and if this Metro wasn't right beside my work I'd probably (and happily) not step foot into here. read more

This review is based on the pizza. They have specials for dinner everyday and on Wednesday you get a XL pepperoni pizza for $6.99 plus tax. It was pretty good. Service isn't too friendly but i don't expect much from Metro. Gotta say though, my experience in the past with the bakery wasn't that great. Depending on who you get to place an order, it can be iffy. If I'm in the downtown and I have to go to Metro, I'd take this one over the one at Ryerson, Spadina and Bloor and College St in Little Italy anytime. If you want to be treated like a human being then don't come to this location. Poor experiences and terrible customer service from management down to the clerk. They seldom restock items that are advertised on sale. I once asked about the availability of an advertised sale item, the clerk didn't tell me that it was unavailable he just told me that it was not on sale. On another occassion I was followed by a manager throughout the aisles as if I was about to steal something. I also bought chicken here and it went bad 4 days before its expiry date. Over the years I have given this locations many chances, but I ALWAYS walk out disappointed or upset. This is the closest location to my work and home, but I will go out of my way to go to the Metro in Little Italy (also 24 hours and fantastic staff day and night). Just quickly dropped by to buy a 4L bag of lactose-free milk because I had a manufacturer's coupon for $1 off (and we all know how much more expensive lactose-free products are.. *cries*). The lineup was short and I was at the cashier in no time which was great since the milk was rather heavy. The employee was nice and quickly took the coupon without making a big fuss or taking 20 minutes to read the fine print (which I have been unfortunate enough to encounter before). You can't beat the location, being steps away from the doorway to College subway station. But it's pretty small and so, if you're looking for anything exotic, you may be left wanting (luckily there is a Sobeys in the same building, and a great Loblaws not too far away). I do like their lunch combo deal. For $7, you get your choice of a main and 2 sides. If you get the tilapia, make sure they give you the tartar sauce. Sometimes they don't include it unless you ask. Also ask for plastic cutlery if you need it from the same person that served you. And of course, as is the case with all Metros, don't forget your Air Miles card. read more

They have a student special of 10% every Wednesday for fresh produce and ready-to-go meals. If you aren't going for the special or don't need something on a Wednesday, then don't go, since this Metro is packed on Wednesdays thanks to all the students who live nearby. Dirty, crowded, chaotic. The perishable food here does not ever seem fresh. The aisles are so cramped. One jerk pushing a cart plowed into me when I was here. I swore at him and was about the give him the finger when I realized it was some shifty character type and decided to move along before I got stabbed. This place is only good to buy things like aluminum foil, plastic wrap, cleaning sponges, lysol, coffee filters etc - WHEN ON SALE. This is why I gave my rating 2 stars. The prices are mid point between No Frills and Loblaws. They have a good selection of fresh meals and ready serve salads. Their produce section is a decent size, the selection of organics is fairly limited. Their cashiers are robot like, I've been shopping there since this location opened and they still ask me if I need bags even though I always have my own bags. If you are a regular in a bar you are always remembered. At metro you remain a stranger to them no matter how long you've been shopping there. read more

Metro - you suck. You really suck. Most of the cashiers are jerks. I don't really care for overly 'pleasant' and 'smiley' grocery store cashiers, but dealing with grumpy people really screws with my energy. Especially when you're shopping at this dungeon of supermarket. Avoid this place at all costs between 5 and 7 -- the line-ups are atricious and the credit card machines are slow as hell. It's crazy fighting for the post-work crowd before they hit the subway. One reason why I shop here: it's open 24 hours. And the cashiers are even more 'prickish' at the 24 hour grocery store downstairs from my apartment. And the other reason to shop at Metros -- on Tuesdays, it's $6.99 for 1 kg roasted chicken. I stand in line with the old Chinese ladies (that grab two chickens) and the lonely students for the cheap chicken. Then I stand in line to pay for said chicken. It sucks... but it's so cheap.
