QUEEN & GLADSTONE -- Mediocrity seems good enough for this store's manager. I just returned to the Gladstone/Queen FreshCo to return the Piller's Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich packets I bought yesterday. My daughter noticed it was slimy and smelled bad when she opened it. The best before expiry date was September 28, 2023--3-1/2 weeks past due. I returned it and spoke with the manager who inspected my sales receipt from yesterday, October 22, 2023. He didn't say much other than I should exchange it at the checkout. I asked how this happens and he said the part time staff probably missed it. I went to get a replacement and found ANOTHER EXPIRED packet from September 28! When I showed it to him he shrugged and said the dates are actually suggestions. I raised my voice when I assured him the meat was slimy and smelled bad and he was minimizing a problem. It was a health concern. He asked me to leave. read more

Terrible customer service. I was looking for a specific type of bread (Stonemill Bakehouse's '21 Grains'). I called ahead and asked to speak to bakery and then if they could confirm that was in stock, the person on the line said they knew that specific type of bread and confirmed it was in stock. I asked them to ensure it was '21 grains' as they have flavors like multigran, 3-grain, 11-grain and 12-grain which can be confusing if you do a quick look-bye. They reiterated they have '21 grains' so I said I'd be coming from far away, do they have alot in stock and I was assured yes there was alot. I trekked half an hour through a winter storm to get there, only to find out they had zero in stock. Thanks for the time wasted! read more

Let's see where do we start with the cash register number three today lady was rude to the customer before me I should have realized and moved over no I'd be stupid and have to wait there like an idiot to get to see her rudeness from a cashier I don't get it I don't understand how people pick this career when you can't handle people then. Here comes JOE the manager which is far from being a manager that's for sure has no people skills also none whatsoever..... FRESHCO better do some checking on your employees place is horrible it's getting worse there's only one person that's nice in this whole place. And she's your cashier supervisor I don't recall her name she's the only one that runs around the whole place doing something making sure customers get what they need... Way back when, I lived by one of the first FreshCos in the east end, and though it was a lifesaver, I wasn't a huge fan. I missed having a deli, a fish monger, a bakery, etc. Now, years later, my new home (full house, hooray) is near a FreshCo, and I must admit, I'm really digging it. Yes, I miss my designer in-house extras, but it's a really nice space with excellent layout, hours and super stocked shelves. The one thing that gets my goat is paying for carts, I know it's minimal, but I never have change. How many suckas are stealing carts? Ridiculous. Pro tip: If you find someone stocking shelves, they can get you a cart without a quarter... though it's possible they're just pitying me because I'm visibly pregnant. But hey, it's worth a shot if you, too, are often without cash or change. read more

i come here quite often for groceries and I find it quite a good grocery store. Here is what they have: - free parking - redbox dvd rental - comparatively cheap prices (read relatively cheap compared to Loblaws/Metro) -price match (which I have never used) - good selection of vegetables and fruits, including some asian vegetables There is no fresh meat counter section which sucks nor seafood; they have them at other FreshCos. But if I need some meat, they do have some available. I don't find issues with what others say about disorganization. Though I've been there when restocking is happening and the aisles are wide enough. And for some reason the back corner freezer section always seems to be piled high of stuff. Doesn't bother me too much. read more

Bronwyn lives at the top of Northcote, so this is our go-to place due to pure convenience. That definitely earned it a few stars. Overall, prices are decent here. They have a price-match policy, but I don't use it. They have most of the things you need. However, I find the place to be rather unorganized. Things aren't where they should be, intuitively. They don't have a deli or meat counter. I suppose this keeps the prices down, but it also means we do our meat shopping elsewhere. That being said, if we're in a pinch for dinner, we can usually go and find something on sale that we don't mind working with (it's simply not a priority spot for meat or fish). I had an odd experience the other day. We wanted to make chili, but Bronwyn's cupboard was missing a few key spices. No worries, I thought, I'll head to Freshco. I went to the aisle I recalled had the spices. I searched high and low, and there was no chill powder (or oregano, or cayenne). Threw me for a loop. I asked a worker if there were any more spices elsewhere in the store, and he pointed me to 2 additional brands (oddly, all 3 spices were in 3 different bloody aisles). Overall, none of the 3 brands had chili powder in stock. What's up with that? Did everyone in the west end decide to make chili this morning? Anyway, overall, it does the trick as a grocery store. Just don't expect anything extravagant, and don't be surprised if you can't find an item from time to time. read more

FreshCo at Gladstone and Queen recently opened (in place of the Price Chopper) and is my new favourite place to buy groceries. As a not-so-extreme couponer, I love a good deal and have made price matching a requirement of my weekly grocery store. When I found out FreshCo price matches (actually they give you $0.01 off the advertised price) AND they have fresh, good looking, tasty produce, I was hooked. I had concerns with other major price matching grocery stores because their meat and produce looked a little... iffy. It would also go bad MUCH quicker than the stuff from FreshCo. While FreshCo is not our closest grocery store, I bike the extra 10 minutes because I can save between $20 and $50 per visit. If you're super brand-loyal, you'll have to be flexible. But if you love to stock up on good deals - regardless of the brand - FreshCo is a great choice. Happy Shopping! read more

Went there today for the first time. I really do love Freshco. This location is better than the parliament and dundas location, mainly because it actually allows price match. I used price match today on some vegetables, and ended up saving quite a bit of money (especially on cauliflower-ha!). The fruits and vegetables, as well as the meat are also fresher here than the no frills close to king and Jamieson. Another perk is that it also has parking. I will definitely be coming here on the regular. read more

We're still coming here because we don't have too much of a choice in terms of budget grocery shopping. The produce is improving slowly and slightly but it's better than nothing. I find it odd that the grocery store is stocked during their busy times. It makes it really hard to get in and out with the things you need if you have to wait for a shelf to be stocked or inventory to be bought out. Cashiers are still great at scanning you through quickly though floor staff aren't very approachable or helpful. tl;dr extra star because of the effects of Stockholm Syndrome read more

I am an avid "high-end grocery shop" person and was INCREDIBLY impressed with this Freshco. There were no lines ( we went after 8PM on a thursday night) and the selection and prices are amazing. I bought some organic products protein pastas that you can only get at Whole Foods, but at a fraction of the price. Really nice produce and extremely clean and big store. This is definitely our new go-to! read more

This grocer has very good hours and as there sign states which holds true there prices can't be beat. There a pretty big store so they have a fairly good selection of products. The service is friendly and helpful. read more

Decent enough grocery depending on the day of the week - end of sale is very sold out. Good prices and selection. Just buffer in a few extra minutes especially for waiting in line - very slow moving customers and people there. read more

On top of being everything that you'd expect from a Freshco, you will not find a grocery store that plays better music.

My dear Price Chopper turned into a Freshco a few years ago and although I do love this location, I sometimes really do miss the bakery and deli counter that came with Price Chopper that Freshco lacks. However, after reading a few other reviews I now know that not all Freshco's don't have a deli and meat counter. This place is great for your occasional groceries, their bread sections lacks a little bit and I find that their bread is only good untill about 3-4pm. After that, it is just stale bread and not worth buying. They usually do have $1, $2, $3 dollar sales which are fantastic. There aren't many cashiers working which can make the line ups a little dreadly come Thursday-Sunday evening however the ones that do are pretty nice and create relationships with their customers. This place isn't the most organized however, it is doable for your everyday grocery needs. read more

It's OK. Good for a discount store, not comparable to a high end grocery store. You get what you pay for. I go for cereals, bottled water, anything canned and packaged and buy my veggies in Chinatown or Kensington Mkt where volume quantity drives up freshness. You get what you pay for. Some great deals here though and there are always bumper crops the wholesaler has to unload fresher and cheaper. read more

If I could give this grocery store less than one star I would. Wait times to check out are ridiculous as there are never enough cashiers working. It shouldn't take more time in line than it does to pick up all of your items in the store. read more

Pretty decent grocery store. Good sales and selection. Lines are always long, usually because of dim lit people unsure how to work the debit pad or taking their sweet time. Really wish they had a hot food and a deli counter, cashiers are great but I wish they would just bag your groceries for you. read more

This is a great grocery store. First of all, free parking. My other 2 most shopped at stores do not have free parking. The prices are amazing compared to the other stores and it's very clean. I always buy my produce and canned goods here. And some of the meat deals can't be beat! read more

Freshco gets my patronage strictly as a matter of convenience. My preference would be to shop in markets and quality small grocers, those are few and far between in Toronto. The best thing about shopping here are the tunes. The worst? The tall stacks of baskets at the cashiers that never seem to migrate to the entrance where customers need them, the embarrassingly poor state of the produce (doesn't live up to the Freshco moniker), and the perpetually green bananas. read more
