I absolutely LOVE Loblaws. I go shopping there every day. I buy chicken or fish, vegetables like broccoli or zucchini and sour dough bread. It's a divine meal. I've tried some of the pre marinated chicken and it's better than any restaurant could serve. If you go at lunch time I highly recommend the sushi. It's very fresh. I eat it almost every day. They also have amazing cheese. I try not to eat too much cheese but it's hard to resist the cheese at Loblaws! Cheddar and Brie are the best to go with the fresh sour dough bread. You can eat very well at Loblaws, you don't need to spend a lot of money on a solid meal. I highly recommend shopping for food at Loblaws. My son eats yoghurt and granola for breakfast every morning. There are so many kinds of healthy granola that we try a different kind every two weeks! read more

I've been shopping at this loblaws for years as this one is the closest to where I live. Situated in the Queen st west neighborhood this loblaws is pretty convenient for those who live above it and there is also a Winners on the 3rd floor and Joe fresh on the first. This loblaws is a bit smaller than others but most of the time it is fully stocked with an arrangement of produce, meat, baked goods, shelf stable products, frozen, dairy products, etc. It's pretty clean, organized and fresh (no complains on this part) My only issue is the employees working, once in a while you'll get a few who are friendly and helpful but majority of them working there are so miserable, unhelpful and can make you feel uncomfortable. Especially if you are using the self check out, there is a female individual who oversees the check out lane and she seems to be a regular staff as I constantly see her there. She seems cold, unresponsive and when she does respond she makes you feel uncomfortable (hovering over, getting too close sometimes), sometimes she will respond rudely when you ask a question. I try to avoid her at all cost but seems like it's impossible so I just ignore her presence and go on with my thing. Another time my sister encountered a male employee who she asked politely if he could check the price on a item and the employee responded to her rudely as if he was super busy and didn't have time to do so. This is just a personal experience, everyone else's experiences are different and that doesn't mean you should be avoiding this location at all cost. Just happy to have a loblaws close by! read more

My review is actually for that amazing poke bar that's opened recently near the hot deli Oh my goodness, it's freshness overload. You have a choice of tuna or salmon on soba noodles, rice or greens. Plus the seaweed salad, carrot salad, edemame, fresh mango, cucs etc. It's excellent. The grocery store is ok, typical Loblaws. Because of the location it's pretty costly. But go directly to that poke bar. You won't regret it. read more

(Problem with self check out lady) The self check out lady she is older with glasses, please someone in managment talk to her. Almost every time I decide to use the self checkout machine when this lady is working I know within 60 seconds she is going to stroll over and stair at my order on the screen. It is extremely uncomfortable knowing that she is going to do this. Every other person working as a self checkout attendant waits till someone needs help and comes over when needed. This is a small form of harrasement she needs to back off. Her trick is if you have a basket she comes over to grab it and then stairs at your order on the screen. It is a self checkout machine a eight year old can use it. I have watched her do this to many people checking out and they are left wondering why she is bugging them. They never called her over they don't need any help with checkout and they are not some crazy homeless person looking to take items. I understand you have a job to do but it's just harrasement knowing she is going come over and treat you like you are unable to use the machine. Please someone talk to her. This is a decent sized loblaws which caters to this neighborhood. My exposure has been limited to this store in the past. However I have been visiting this store more recently. By no means a flagship store but decent nonetheless. Layout is OK for produce but a bit tight for others IMO (organic products in particular). Other thing is the dearth of assistance when needed. Me being a rookie for this store didn't know where them items were and had to ask for directions after spotting someone I was mostly referred to the help counter where someone would guide me where to go. Had a horrible experience at the loblaws on st Clair W with their rotten meat that gave my wife rashes all over her hands. I figured we'd try another one, so we checked this place out. The meat section was probably worse with packaged meat where it was obvious they mixed in old meat. This is a Review for Take Out, not for the Grocery store. They have fresh, cheap food for lunch. Pizza, Chicken Wings, Chicken Fingers, Pasta, Fries... They also got ready to eat dishes: meatballs, meatloaf... (around the $7-8) I got 3 Chicken Tenders and 1 side for 7.66$ with tax. The chicken tenders were large and tasty. They got dipping sauces (Hot Sauce, Mustard, Plum) on the side. Overall tasty, but generally not the healthiest options. The salads are substancially more expensive. NOT GOOD! I was there for an hour on a Tuesday lunchtime which should normally be a good time to shop. However there was NO regulation of traffic. NO social distancing by staff or customers. Plus I saw a woman take her pet dog into the store and put it into the shopping cart! I also saw another customer walking around store and going to customer service without a mask! I spoke to staff and to manager and he said there was nothing he could do ...in other words they just don't care! I reported it to Toronto health dept and I WONT be going back again! read more

I popped in for groceries once but came back to their glorious bakery the second time. Their selection is OK but slightly unorganized. Produce is neither good nor bad compared to others. Try this location if you need to pick up a cake or dessert. They have a large selection of macaroons, tarts, cakes (la rocca & dufflet), and more. Did I mention cupcake bonanza? Also, Dufflet pastries isn't too far if you can't find what you want here. You can rely on very few people in this store. The person at the bakery wasn't there when I came in. I had to say 'excuse me' to a lady 3 times before she acknowledged my existence and then tersely told me she would be by soon. Waited a bit for her to come out and thankfully she was a lot more pleasant. Luck of the draw, I guess. read more

As if I need another reason to live in the Queen West area, the addition of Loblaws at Queen and Portland is it. Now there is less need to rely on driving to a supermarket. The deli has seating overlooking Queen at the corner with floor to ceiling windows. The sushi bar is at the other side of the seating area next to the 'wall of cheese'. Instead of the usual oversized grocery carts, this store has the slick baskets which have retractable handles and wheels like luggage. This makes navigating the aisles much easier. Finally the european style of integrating large stores into the Queen West streetscape has caught on! read more

Last time I came, there were molded bitter melon, told the staff there. They said they don't have any fresh ones and walked away. Didn't even taken the molded ones away. Today I came to buy some ginger, both boxes of ginger were moldy!!!!! This is ridiculous but it's the only way I know how to share my love. I never checked in on Yelp, but I would say every single week for the past year. So many visits that I KNOW when they stock items. I know when they're busiest and when they're not. I know when the families with screaming children visit. When I visited here at 10:30pm for a quick walk and one bag of chips. THANK YOU FOR THE CLEANLINESS and Loblaws guidelines It's ALWAYS clean here. I HATE sticky shelves, spilled items on the floor, "where is the bread????", wet cashier conveyor belts, and dark/crammed spaces. Every modern Loblaws follow the same look-and-feel. Mississauga Heartland Loblaws has always been the best (for me) and this Queen Street one isn't as big. The downtown location carries less choices (and sources) for fruits and vegetables, but that's fine because I survived. One time the lemons suck, another time the sweet potatoes are all gone. The bagged avocados are yucky. in-and-out in 30 minutes. That's me! And thank you. You've made my downtown life perfect and healthy. A quick note. Before I dive into what I love about this store, I just want to say that I haven't bought a lot of produce here, and there are some reviews here that thwart their produce department. Thanks for that intel, and I'll stick to farmers' markets for such goodly goods. Moving on... This is quite the grocery mecca sitting high above Queen W when it comes to cheeses, boxed goods, and pre-made dinners! It is with sincere regret that I am writing yet another terrible review of this grocery store. Regret for the fact that yet another meal was ruined by bad produce. Let me begin by saying that this is my local stop on the way home from work. So the likelihood of repeat visits leading to dissatisfaction is high. But unfortunately, I've purchased more questionable and rotten products from this location that any grocery store I've ever visited. Last week-- Wednesday I bought some cubed pieces of butternut squash PC brand and they were sealed. The best before date was a week away. When I went to use them three days later, they were covered in slime. Then tonight, $20 worth of seafood and all my work on dinner was ruined. I bought some pasta clams, bay scallops and shrimp to make with my homemade pesto and white wine with linguine. We were shelling the clams as we ate and my boyfriend was like: What is THIS??? pointing with his fork to a clam shell that was open, had no clam in it but some black sludge that looked like liquid tar. The shell was literally full of it. We set it aside, but he couldn't eat the rest of his dinner. Both of us have had clams many times before, but we've never seen this. It looked like squid ink. But the clam was closed before I cooked it, so I don't know how squid ink could have been inside it. I called the store and told them that I had a possible health and safety matter to report. I was transferred twice and the second person I spoke to had the Assistant Manager nearby and I overheard the AM say "What would you have done if I wasn't here?" over and over again tot he employee When the employee returned to the phone, he asked for my phone number. I asked him who he was speaking to just then, and he told me it was the AM. I asked to speak to him instead. Wow, being the AM, his concern should be the customer on the phone and the safety of his products! He easily could have asked this question (and I do think it is an important question) to his employee after the fact. But when someone calls in with something like this, you pay attention. Not just because it is your job, but because of public heath and safety. When I spoke to him, he asked the person at the fish counter and said that a bit of black can be normal in a clam. I asked him of a tablespoon of the stuff in a pasta clam was common and he said he's never seen it, but that it should not pose a safety risk. He was nice enough to offer to refund my money for the products used if I brought in the container with the price on it, but our dinner was ruined. We just couldn't eat any more of it. I'll maintain that the cashiers are all really nice here, but I think there's something very wrong happening from a quality standpoint and management seems to think it's more important to berate their employees than to handle the problems that arise. OMG this is the biggest and best grocery store I have ever seen!! My friend and I came across this place walking through Toronto heading downtown from our hotel. We were looking for a restaurant for lunch and we were walking on the side of this place and you could see in the window fresh organic produce, meat counters and cheese counter etc. We asked a few guys walking behind us what this place was and they said it was a grocery store but it was like Whole Foods on CRACK!! I mean this place was huge! You walk in the door and you see dessert cases with everything imaginable, pizza oven, hot foods, sandwich making, salad bar, and then walking in deeper you see a tea counter, sushi bar, pre made salad area with all sorts of salads. They had so many healthy choices and fresh produce. Meat counter, cheese counter, bread, bakery, olive bar, everything imaginable they have it here. I mean this is only half of the place you haven't even seen the grocery area yet. They also had a pharmacy and massages and physical therapy sign. Upstairs there is a liquor store and a clothing store. But the star of the show is all the pre made and cooked food you could buy here and the dining area they had in the middle area for you to eat. I think we were in there for well over an hour, mainly walking around in awe and trying to figure out just what we wanted to have for lunch since there were so many choices. This was probably the best find I found in all of Canada and Toronto. After talking to some other people they said this was the largest location and not all of them are as grand so I guess we really lucked out! If you are ever here in Toronto you really need to check this place out especially if you are from the US like me. I have never seen anything so beautiful. read more

I love Loblaws. Simply put, it's the best grocery store I've ever shopped at. Overall quality of food and the stores themselves is second to none. After moving to this neighborhood a little under a year ago, I was pleased to have a Loblaws store so close by. By my recollection, it arrived about 2 years before I moved here and having one here saves me a trip to Queens Quay. Let's get down to the important details. What separates Loblaws from the rest of the supermarkets is that their store name brand has become brand name itself and the quality of it is often better than the name brand items it competes with. The Ziggy's brand pepperoni is the best out there. It's brand name cousin is Pillars which tastes like and has the texture of beef jerky (which is fine...if you were actually looking for BEEF JERKEY). Their PC fresh pasta is better than Oliveri, the Naan bread mini's are fantastic and have no equivalent from any other company, and the mushrooms are always fresh. The cheese selection is second to none, they have a great freezer section, organic food section, fresh vegetable section and deli and pastry section. Parking is validated for those who drive (validated parking downtown? Get outta here!), and they have a lotto counter too. Why would you shop anywhere else?? read more

As an addition to my previous glowing review, let me tell you what else I witnessed at Loblaws today. I was checking out with a cashier, and a manager came over to her as she was dealing with my groceries. He unwrapped a bandaid, wrapped it around her finger, they both smiled, the cashier said thanks, and he walked away. She was still smiling long after. I swear, I'm looking forward to the day when they replace the floor tiles with grass and moss, and have baby deer and bunnies nibbling at the produce while bluebirds flutter overhead. read more

LOBLAWS!! Though it's not as close as I wish it was (I wish I lived above it, honestly) this is my new favorite local grocery store. Nothing compares to the Loblaws grocery shopping experience, and this one is no different. The prices are right, the service is good, the products are fabulous, and there is always a Joe Fresh close by (in this case, just down on the first floor!) This is quite a big Loblaws - they have a great bakery (lots of cupcakes!), a sushi stand, a big deli, fresh produce, and a pharmacy (especially awesome because this is the only place I can find Goody hair products!) . The BIGGEST most AMAZING perk of this place is that they validate parking (over $20 purchase) - it's so convenient to be able to take the giant elevator down with all my groceries to a car and not have to pay! Hurrah! There are only a few issues I've noticed with this place - one is the CROWD - it's quite intense on a weekend (to be expected) so I highly recommend after-work weekday shopping, and the random support beams throughout the store, which can make it hard to navigate with a cart, especially on a crowded weekend. These slight issues don't take away too much from the great (cheap! deals!) grocery shopping experience this Loblaws provides! read more

When I first heard of plans for a Loblaws to open on Queen & Portland St, I was so excited. I even checked into the Queen + Portland blog to check on the progress of construction. So when it finally opened on the day of my wedding, it was a like a personal wedding present! What I love: - The location is super close and convenient, and in a much needed area. Finally, I can stop grocery shopping at Shoppers. - The extras - I used to live in suburbia and shop in large chain grocery stores, but seems like Loblaws has really stepped it up.. - An on-site ACE bakery with a do it yourself bread slicer where you can choose the size of your slice - A specialty floor to ceiling cheese fridge - A large bakery full of amazing looking desserts - I can't say I've explored it all yet, but I'm definitely liking what I see - Spaciousness - wide aisles... finally some space unlike other downtown grocery stores! - Lastly, the prices actually seem reasonable and not too far off from Loblaws in the boonies. It's hard to measure, but they do seem to have lots of specials and prices appear better than Sobey's or Longo's Welcome to my neighborhood grocery store! read more

Was in the Queen West neighbourhood so I thought I would pop by to purchase PC yogurt, almond milk and stonemill bread as they were all on special. Would you believe they were all out of stock. On a Friday @ 5 pm. Who stocks this place? Considering the lack of supermarkets in the area you would think they would try to keep stock up. Thanks got there is another Loblaws closer to home. Instacart Securtiy and Support is awful. My wife used my cc to try to pay for a $77 order and her account was frozen. I went into my account to order and they froze me out in the middle of shopping. Their support replies were copy and past boilers repeats of "our policy is...". They wanted me to send them a photo (don't accept scans) of the credit cards we were using. No help. This is more than just your ordinary general purpose grocery. They have several nice (e.g. bluefoots, hen of the woods, chanterelles, etc.) fresh mushrooms available year round, various ground meats (elk, bison, elk), veal sweetbreads, veal, duck, whole rabbit, dry aged beef, wagyu beef, edible flowers (also zucchini flowers!), and lots of great cheese. I lived in Kensington market for a year and was a bit worried that I would not having much groceries in the Queen/Bathurst area, but I am more than content thanks to this Loblaws alone. For things which are harder to get in this city like truffles or really high quality chicken, St. Lawrence market is likely to be a better bet. read more

I generally like this location, but I have to agree with a few other reviews on here. The staff needs a bit of work re: customer service, especially the 'hot-food' service station by the escalator and across from the pastries. Every time I go in around lunch to grab groceries for the day/my lunch - the servers behind that station always either a) give me a glare, then walk away to do something else, or b) ignore me completely and pretend I'm not there. It's discouraging, and insulting, and seriously? If you don't want to serve/interact with customers, then take your sulking faces and go work somewhere else. By the time someone /finally/ acknowledges me, I try and speak in a friendly way while I get my order, but I'm met with grumbled answers, or lethargic movements. Like it's some big chore for them to give me what I'm asking for. It's handed over begrudgingly, without a smile or anything. It's really a problem. The cashiers I find are always lovely, and the reason I keep coming back to this location is because it's close to my work, and I enjoy their selection. But come on. Customer service is job number one (having ample years in customer service myself), it's embarrassing to have to see the way these workers treat people. read more

I have rarely visited Loblaws locations, primarily the Queen Quay store and St Clair stores when I had a Zipcar and time to kill. I'd much rather get delivery from GG with in-condo-delivery. However, I couldn't resist Zipcaring it down the block today. This Loblaws has parking, on Queen Street! Amazing. In and out within an hour, this might just make the Zipcar 1 hour fee worth it. Other favorite things: Loblaws black label items that really seem to target the foodie in me- olive tapenade, tomatillo salsa, spicy pepper jelly. Ocean-wise fish selection, so you don't have to refer to the pocket card to know if this is something you can buy. In house ACE bakery. Downfalls: They seem to be out of things that I, and a million other Queen West hipsters love- More Kashi GO LEAN Crunch, please. One hour Mini Cooper Zipcar Rental- $12. I literally want to move to Toronto just to shop here - but if I did - I would cook a lot more at home and wouldn't eat out to write reviews for Yelp. So I'll stay in Austin. Just...no. I came here on a Saturday night to pickup a Dinner for Two, a $15 combo that gets you fried chicken, a shareable side, and a dip. We went over the the counter to place the order and the guy behind the food counter immediately starts... mopping the floor. Then he pauses, looks at us sadly, and proceeds with the order. It took a good while, as he "didn't know what the Dinner for Two was" and "didn't know the menu very well," even though the special was printed right in front of us. So we coached him through it. At the end, we reminded him pack our dip, which also took a good while, as he didn't seem to know what the flavours for (we just wanted something spicy) and we got recommended a Thai sauce thing that was the weirdest and most sour thing ever. The chicken all turned out to be tenders/nugget-like things, even though the menu clearly advertised "chicken parts," like thigh, breast meat, etc. Also, there were NO forks, ketchup, or hot sauce at the condiments station at all. And no one was interested in refilling the stock. We also got some cupcakes. While the frosting was yummy, the service at the pastries counter was sure frosty. Customers here also seem to have a chip on their shoulder and act the equivalent of Torontonian drivers. Snarling "EXCUSE ME!" before ramming their cart past your leg, as though they can't bear a second's pause between themselves and their beloved boxed quinoa lying just behind you. read more

I've been coming to this Loblaws location since it opened and loved the fact it's conveniently close to home. The store is very spacious and clean which makes grocery shopping a nice and effortless experience. Most grocery items are reasonably priced and they often have weekly sales and in-store specials and clearance items. Plus extra PC Points are offered on selected items weekly. This location has an onsite bakery, eat in area (that overlooks Queen St.), sushi and hot food counters for ordering in or takeout at reasonable prices. Checkout is usually a breeze as I never waited any longer than five minutes because there are so many staff at checkout. The cashiers are usually friendly, fast and efficient, but on a recent visit the cashier was very nonchalant, somewhat irritated, and not very helpful as she didn't help me bag my groceries. Perhaps she was having a bad day, but it doesn't excuse her for the lack of customer service. I was quite appalled because I brought my own reusable bag like I always do and only purchased 6 items which can easily all fit nicely in one bag. Normally the cashiers would take my reusable bag since I tell them I have my own bag(s) and provided it to them before they start scanning my purchases. In addition, the cashiers would just bag the items after they've been scanned, but not this time, the cashier just left my bag on the counter, scanned my purchases and just piled them next to the bag. I thought it was odd, but thought perhaps she wanted to scan everything first and then bag the items at the end. Definitely not the case here. I ended up having to bag my groceries myself while the cashier gave me an annoyed look to hurry up as she was already scanning the next customer's groceries and needed the counter space. If only she had just bagged the groceries for me in the first place, I would have been happily on my way leaving the counter free for the next customer. Such a shame that my grocery shopping experience was marred by poor customer service. Perhaps I'll try their self-checkout next time. Nevertheless, I will continue coming to this Loblaws location despite the one bad experience because overall it's a great store in a very good location. read more

When I first saw the "Loblaws Coming Soon" sign outside the building at 585 Queen St. W. I was quite surprised. Property in this area of Queen St. W. is prime and so doesn't lend itself well to a large supermarket. That is, unless the supermarket, in this case the Loblaws franchise, plans to charge a premium price on it's food items and/or cater to a more affluent clientele. Thus was my fear, convenient location but will the convenience mean the food prices are so high that it's not worth the visit? Well I'm happy to say that this Loblaws seems to have the same pricing on foods that you'd find in any other Loblaws. Plenty of value can be had if you hunt around the store and keep an eye out for sale tags. On the flip side it's worth mentioning that the store does make available a number of higher end products whether that be organic foods, specialty cheeses, "artisan" breads, fresh imported fish, etc. This Loblaws seems to have the best of both worlds: inexpensive pricing on regular food items and a great selection of more specialty foods. As for the store layout I found everything to be comprehensive making it relatively easy to find what I was looking for. The isles are wide with enough actual breathing room so you can food shop comfortably. The variety of goods is plentiful and again if you are looking for something a little more exotic there is a chance they'll have it. For example on a recent visit I had notice a rather impressive selection of Asian fruits, though out of my budget, non the less impressive to see them available in a franchise supermarket. Oh, oh! Their sweet bakery is to drool! A big display of endless cakes, cupcakes, chocolate truffles, muffins, on and on and on. If you want a killer dessert this is as good as place as any to find it. It's brand new, sparkly and shiny! I headed here yesterday on assignment from my boss to scope out the new Loblaws. I was really impressed with the spaciousness - lots of room in each aisle and no chance of getting stuck in traffic. They had a nice little cafe set up in one corner near the deli area, with a cafeteria style set up and free wifi. There is a giant WALL OF CHEESE over on one end. Lots of cashiers/check out areas including a self check out. I arrived at 4pm and it was pretty quiet, but I'm sure this place would be seriously busy between 5-7pm on a weeknight. read more

A welcomed supermarket to the area. The store is nicely designed, far more warm, comfortable and upscale than any other supermarket. It's much nicer than your typical Loblaws (though I have been to the big one at Maple Leaf Centre). Everything is well laid out, easy to navigate and find things, unlike the confusing layout of Longos at Maple Leaf Square. I also like their recently launched black label gourmet food products (watch out Mark McEwan's). Truffle oil, bacon marmelaide... so good! The freshly made breads, salads, sushi, breads and pastries all look so good. This is a great place for cheese, patés and antipasto stuff -- everything you need to host or bring to a party. Yes, it may be more expensive (it's acutally in line with Sobey's and Longos). But the quality and selection is good and it's a one stop shop for all your grocery and entertaining needs. If there was a LCBO in the building, I would be moving into one of the condos upstairs! read more

Not that I'm completely possessed by the soundtrack of the FreshCo on Gladstone or anything, but as I found myself in this Loblaws this morning in search of sugar-free bacon I kept thinking two things over and over: not great music, pretty good floor. Legit pizza buns though, if you're into that kind of thing. read more
