Looking to get your Korean grocery goods? H-Mart is a spot we visit occasionally to stock up on Korean noodles, taiyaki, frozen snacks, fried chicken and other hot food from time-to-time. There's quite a vast selection from produce, meats & seafood to Asian drinks and hot food. Unfortunately everything is still relatively overpriced compared to other Asian groceries judging by the prices of their seafood market, hot food stand, specialty beer and even the taiyaki now. One positive is the number of sample stations now in-store. There's also a handful of food court options from BB.Q Chicken to Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu. We weren't impressed though by the cleanliness of the food court. If you're planning to have a meal, just be prepared to take a while to find parking in the busy plaza parking lot. Skip it or hit it? Was in the area and always wanted to try the food court inside of the H mart and was honestly impressed with the variety. They had sushi, egg sandwiches, soon tofu and Korean fried chicken. We did the last two and also picked up some gum bao from the supermarket. We were happy as we haven't been to the soon tofu in a while (same as the one by Yonge and finch). H Mart in Richmond Hill is big and clean, offering lots of variety. There's many sections beyond the usual produce and packaged goods, for example, food court, bakery, prepared hot and cold food, and beer! Super handy around the holidays too - I can't tell you how grateful I was to find it open this Christmas when I totally forgot to stock up on drinks. The bakery has these cute whole cakes ready to go, perfect for those last-minute get-togethers. And it's not all about Korean products - you've got your pick of Chinese and Filipino items too. I also found frozen kimbap -- not the same brand as the recently-gone-viral Trader Joe's one, but still curious to try! Plus, parking is a breeze and free. read more

This is my go-to Korean grocery store. I love the ready to eat maki and donburi; they are so fresh and is a better value than those sold at T&T grocery stores. I like the large selection in noodles, chili paste, seaweed, dumplings and sauces and Kimchi. Things are pricey except when on sale. Watch for their dumplings sales and rice sales. Fresh meat and produces are pricer here, so I don't buy them here. read more

This Hmart is huge. It has a food court with multiple restaurants (including the popular chain bb.q chicken), a separate hot prepared foods section, a bakery, a sweet potato station, a street food stall that sells fish cakes and tteokbokki, fresh made Korean corn dogs, and a stand selling fresh made taiyakis (Kevin's Taiyaki). You can find discounted hot foods and bakery items at the end of the day. read more

This is the largest Korean grocery store that I've been to! We came here later on a Sunday past dinner time so it was pretty quiet in the grocery section. This H Mart has a small food court area with seating. There was a bit of a wait by the chicken place, so I'm thinking it must have been good. The store is large enough to have many distinct sections - household goods which is also where the cosmetics were, seafood counter, bakery, packaged hot foods to go, etc. I was really impressed with the variety of seafood that they had. They had fresh fish and a lot of frozen selection. They had mixed frozen seafood and shellfish packages which are really great when you need a little bit of everything for a recipe! Since it was later in the day, the bakery was no longer staffed so you couldn't order the cakes behind the display case. We did ask an employee passing by and he wasn't able to help us. There were a lot of end of day sales and most of them were almost picked clean. The bakery had some items which included packaged buns (came with a loaf and 2-3 other buns) that was 30% off. The hot food section also had sales but it was pretty much empty by the time we got there. In the middle of the store there is a stall for carp bread. They were no longer making fresh ones but they did have discounted ones that were boxed up and ready to go with mixed flavours. We got a box of these that had 4 red bean and 3 custard filled fish. The only issue is that you can't really tell which ones are filled with which so we had to guess when splitting them up. If you're not having them fresh off the iron, I'd recommend heating them up in the air fryer for a few minutes to crisp them back up before enjoying. read more

This location improved a lot since I visited years ago, so it is time for an update! The food court area had expanded and now have better vendors moved in with more varieties! KFC, Bingsu, Soon Tofu, just name a few. Meat varieties are good with premium cut that is great for BBQ. I also love how their banchan are pre packed and more hygienic. I also picked up Kimbap as snack a few times and the quality is good. Great to see H Mart is moving in the right direction. Oh and they have Beers too! read more

Hmart is a Korean grocery store chain from the USA. Apparently the company was founded in 1982, but they've only recently entered the Canadian Market in 2003 and only arrived in the GTA in 2013. So while I would myself describe it as similar to Galleria Supermarket, it technically existed before Galleria (which was founded in 2003). It has all things Korean, and not just food, but socks, greeting cards, stationery, and housewares too. Lots of Kimchi and Ramen! They also have prepared foods that looked good. They have a bakery section too, and since I went towards the end of the day, a lot of their baked goods were marked down by 30%. They also mark down their prepared foods by 30% towards closing. They are also licensed to sell beer. Similar to Galleria, they have a food court section. I didn't get a chance to try out any of the food court vendors, but maybe next time. The supermarket is clean and well lit. It's in a strip mall with lots of free parking. I hope they open up a location in Ottawa :) read more

I personally believe that this location just keeps getting better as the years come and go. I've been visiting this location for so many years that I've lost count! They have a wonderful food court with a decent amount of seating (that's always been clean as well whenever I visit) so it makes for a great dine-in (and take-out) spot. Recently, they opened up a Korean Fried Chicken place as well, with the oh-so popular cheese balls which I look forward to trying I'm the near future. My favorite recent addition is actually their street food section! They now serve the famous Korean corn dogs - mozarella, original, ramen, and potato! My favorite is the mozarella which is STUFFED with cheese, soft, and stays warm in their little heating machine. They're corn dogs are about $4.50 for one, cheaper than the North York restaurant that specializing in these. I also love the garlic sausage, delicious! Oh yeah, I have also tried their spicy salmon sushi maki once and was pleasantly surprised! Their spicy mayo was actually spicy, which is often something I find that is lacking at other places, even authentic sushi restaurants! Tasted fresh. Most of the reviews on here are very highly rated but unfortunately it wasn't the best experience for me. I do like how big the store is and how there's so many different products to choose from. However, prices are on the expensive side and I've even seen some products at other grocery stores sold for less. Also, we bought a pack of tofu with almost a week to go until the expiry date. In spite of that, when we had the tofu that very night it already was starting to spoil and there was a sour taste. What a waste of food and money. read more

I've been coming to this supermarket quite regularly these days especially when I feel like Bibimbap (Korean rice bowl with assorted vegetable like spinach, spicy radish, bean sprouts, etc.). It's so easy to make as most of the dishes are already prepared here at a very reasonable price. You just need to fry the bulgogi beef and make some rice then mix the prepared vegetables together. I like to add the chap chae noodles and make sure you reheat it or it will be a bit hard. If you like you can fry an egg and mix it in. I also like to add the korean chilli sauce or add soya sauce if you can't eat spicy. You can get the marinated bulgogi (beef) here from the meat section. The chap chae noodles and mixed vegetables are in the prepared food area. I've attached a photo of everything you need which will cost about $30 and $7 to $10 more if you want the chilli sauce which will last for awhile. The portions are definitely enough for 4 to 5 people. It's a tasty and healthy meal! We also got the croquettes (deep fried bread stuffed with vegetables) which are so tasty! This review is for the food court inside H Mart. I had high hope for the food here because usually, the food court inside a supermarket has good value, cheap and good portion, and no tips. However, I found the food here average taste and average portion, and not that worth it. Probably Minerva Owl restaurant would have better taste and better value than it. Inside H Mart, there is 3 take-out type of restaurants in its food court: one sushi place, one Korean place, and one dessert place. There is more space, but just got covered and I guess closed down. My husband and I found out when we went shopping in H Mart. We had high hope because it is a family-style restaurant and we really like Korean food. However, the food here is just so-so. We tried the pork bone soup, seafood pancake, black bean sauce noodles. To be honest, the pork bone soup is less favorable and less tasty than the pork pone soup in Minerva Owl. The black bean sauce noodles portion is just too small. We ordered the family portion and supposes to serve 2 people; however, neither of us is full after it. Galleria gets most of the press in this area but I found out that H-Mart is the bigger brand. I was in New York and there was an H-Mart there. In fact they are all over the world. Dudes...K-Food Rulez! The place isn't as busy as Galleria nor is the food court full of patrons. There is one Sushi place, two places that are run by one shopkeeper, and a shave ice place. Well, I really don't go to a grocery store for food court anyway. They are essentially heating up the same stuff that you are buying! It's our go to place for some of the veggies, and some prepare foods. There are discounts on their ready to go/serve items after 5pm - normally. The discounts are around 20-50% off. Nice deal for a quick meal or something to take for lunch next day. Something to note, their beer selection rocks compare to G-Mart! That's for the win! read more

I have been shopping at H mart for years now and appreciate them. It is still a strange place to visit because occasionally it is packed and crowded and occasionally there is barely anyone in there. This Korean chain supermarket with a food court must have clientele that all shop together at once or stay home at the exact same times as well! So, what is good here? The Korean (and Chinese and Japanese) food items all imported from Asia, alongside produce, which is mostly imported from the USA unfortunately. What is bad? The high prices and two cashiers working during those times when everyone has decided to shop together at. Often if T&T has the same items the prices there are 20% lower than H Mart. I am always happy to pay more for convenience, cleanliness or special items, but the comparison is like item to like. For example, rice prices are 30% higher at H Mart! Ooops. Still, good place to shop for Kimchi, baked goods or masks and hopefully they can bring more fresh local produce and fruits instead of trucking everything from the USA when the Canadian equivalent is available. read more

Omg.. I had no idea Korean Fried Chicken was this tasty. First heard of this from Korean Drama CRASH LANDING ON YOU and found out they had a location in Canada. I am so glad they have this because it was delicious and crispy and sooo fresh. I am going to be craving this every time now! My daughter and I are big fans of the food court, specifically the sushi and udon noodles. There are plenty of high chairs and it's kid-friendly. Nothing fancy, but it's a relaxed and friendly place for a meal. Some of the meals can be pricey, but it's the GTA I guess. It's fun grocery shopping afterward too. read more

I love trying new flavours and my favourite ones are the spicy cold noodle called bibimyeon and there instant jjangmeon . they are the best and tax was included they also have restaurants inside that I want to try out but I have tried there fish shaped taiyaki with red bean inside and it's so delicious. the people were so sweet and gave us an extra taiyaki for free !! love hmart recommend it to everyone read more

Biggest competitor to Galleria but this H Mart is almost never busy. Sometimes I worry that they will close down soon from the lack of business, but they've been proving me wrong for quite some time now. I love this place! They have all these pre-made Korean side dishes, sushi, a bakery, a food court, a little station where they make those red bean-filled waffle fishes, and so much more! I love coming here to eat at the food court, shop for snacks, check out their bakery and just shop around. This time I mainly went to grab snacks, but I happened to be hungry so I made a stop at the food court. I usually eat at the restaurant next to Seoul Korean food, I think it's called Han Sung...something, but they were unfortunately closed. I ordered the pork bone soup because I felt like that was the safest choice. It was mediocre; I have definitely had better. Soup was more salty than anything else, barely any spices in it. The pork bone meat was acceptably tender. The kimchi and bean sprouts were ok. In summary, I don't recommend this dish but I wouldn't say don't eat it unless someone puts a gun to your head. I will definitely return to H Mart so next time, I think I'll try something else on the menu...if their neighbour is closed...sorry! Headed over to the bakery after my meal, it's around 6:30pm now and they're having a sale on their baked goodies! I wish they're didn't package them up into little discount bundles and just sell them separately. The suburbs DESERVE a Korean Grocery Market not only because of growing diversity but also there are LOTS of Korean brand grocery that needs one whole market to DISPLAY it all. *3.5 STARS* I never imagined that Korean grocery can take up a complete market and I'm so glad I was WRONG. You probably know by now I've never stepped inside a PAT Central Market when I visit downtown, but I have passed by it many times. It definitely has resemblance to T&T Supermarket in terms of ORGANIZATION, cleaniness and variety. I wouldn't say it is ALL Korean products as I do see some Japanese and Chinese as well especially in the Tea aisle where I had to read the product description to realize Korean Tea products don't really have Tea in them. I even tried some Korean POPCORN that look so much better than regular popcorn as they are puffed like a balloon but they remind me of Breakfast Cereal. The corner Food Court seems to be an after-thought as it seems to be a run-down area but still have some Korean patrons and a few group of students that keep the 3 businesses(Japanese, Korean, Coffee shop) afloat. The MEAT section of Beef looks so AWESOME. I wish I knew how to cook Beef Rib Korean-style because those looked amazing. I passed by the Pastry section which didn't really peaked my interest as it looked identical to T&T to a point. TOFU had it's own fridge to itself and I realize it even states ORGANIC. Vegetable section was A-OK but what I was interested in was something they even put a PRINT-OUT next to, to display a description and how to cook it, SESAME LEAF(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perilla). I shop here around once or twice a month. They have lots of interesting and delicious foods here. The ready made foods are all pretty good. We've tried the soups, fried chicken, noodles, cakes etc. Everything we've tried has been good. We come here for the fresh seafood and fish. The fish are all cleaned and salted and you just take them home and fry them. They have a good variety and prices are pretty good. The grocery section is quite good, lots of genuine korean and japanese products. The fruit section is fantastic. We always stock up on the delicious fuji apples, whenever we come. Probably Galleria's biggest competitor. Usually when we talk about Korean Supermarkets, this and Galleria are the two that pop out of every GTA residents' mind. In terms of offerings, both places are quite similar. You get your typical selection of produce, meat, seafood, frozen food, and other goodies. Speaking purely in terms of the grocery store, I find both places quite similar in their offerings. However, H Mart loses big time in their food court. Their selections are vastly limited compared to Galleria, and their food quality overall is quite sub-par. They do serve Pho there if you insist in having that, as Galleria doesn't offer Pho. I don't mind coming here every so often, however I prefer the Galleria at Yonge/Steeles more, especially for their meats and, of course, the food court. read more

I don't quite get the hype over Galleria. It seems like they sell the same things as hmart but with marked up prices. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can see the difference in quality - but even the prepackaged products are more expensive at Galleria. This Hmart is a big store with lots of variety - there's baked goods, beer, seafood, a food court, personal products, home products, etc. Their food court is definitely quiet comparatively, so if you are looking for a bustling food court, look elsewhere. I like the ready made foods, sashimi/sushi selection, the frozen foods, small food items such as dried cranberries and almonds which are priced reasonably, the produce (they have a limited selection of organic products such as kale and mushrooms, but sometimes Hmart's selection is fresher than the organic markets even though they are using the same brand/company. not sure why that is happening), and prepackaged foods such as seaweed or white vinegar which can be slightly more expensive than chinese grocery stores, but I find some of the brands that Hmart sells to be higher quality with cleaner ingredients, so it's worth checking the ingredients list to see if the price difference is worth it. As others have mentioned, they have samples sometimes. I believe it's on the weekend. Staff are generally helpful and professional. Highly recommended! read more

They often have sales for seafood and it's pretty good. They also sell beer now! (until 6pm or something like that) They also have a wide variety of dried roots and other herbs, which seem to be on the pricier side imo (the section is between produce and baked goods) The food court inside is not great... H Mart is my favorite Korean supermarket. It is big, bright and clean. The employees are friendly and they carry everything you'd need to cook Korean food. Some of my staples are red chili pepper flakes, red chili paste, an assortment of mushrooms (king oyster, shitake etc), vegetarian dumplings, seaweed, bibimbap kits and exotic looking vegetables. A lot of items don't have English labels but it hasn't been a problem for me even though I can't read a word of Korean. read more

H-Mart is the Korean IKEA! It has a bizarre layout and it is really fun to explore. I like the mini food court because you can relax and get yourself a hot bowl of Udon after stocking up on novelty Korean merchandise. What I really love about this place is the basement! They sell really interesting merchandise imported from Korea. You can find just about anything from electronics to furniture here. read more

This is a small Korean food mart. I basically know nothing about Korean food, so I basically walked the aisles and amused myself with the Engrish and cute cartoon laden products. I purchased a tub of snack-sized seaweed for $2, which I was super happy about. (update, less than a week later, the tub is almost empty) The place has a ton of stuff from confections, to groceries, to bowls and hot water holders. The super market is ok. I ordered bibimnengmyun at seoul korean food. The portion isn't what I'm used to. Very little for the price i paid. The lady there wears gloves to handle cash then handles food. I was so grossed out. I couldnt enjoy my food. I mean what's the point in wearing gloves then. My egg looked like it was peeled by a noob. Parts of the egg were missing... Ewwww and it tastes so bad. Flavor was lacking. Spice was lacking. I did get a side of kim chi. But... So we wanted to check this place out to see how it compared to Galleria...and it's quite different indeed as other Yelpers have stated. On a Saturday morning, H Mart was quiet, lots of parking spaces available, lots of available cashiers with no line-ups, and few customers. Already a plus one in my books! The layout of H Mart is a bit strange, when you first walk-in, you're greeted with a few bins of socks, and then you walk into a housewares area, and then the grocery store starts. It's a bit strange. Grocery offerings are about the same as Galleria, BUT Galleria has much, much more in the prepared foods offerings (like sushi, sashimi etc.). Price of actual groceries at H Mart also seemed cheaper. So if you can't stand the parking lot at Galleria, large crowds, and fighting to get down narrow aisles with your grocery cart, you might want to try H Mart. It's definitely a calmer shopping experience! read more
