Over four years ago, I decided to take a free course at Markham-Stouffville Hospital about Diabetes and nutrition. I am at a higher risk of developing type 2 Diabetes, as my mom has it and my grandmother on my mom's side of the family also had it. The course was broken down into two parts. There was a private weigh-in both times. I was shocked that I had ballooned so much over the years at my first weigh-in. I then went on a cruise the following week and decided on my vacation that I was going to change the way that I ate (yes, you read it correctly -- eating healthy on my vacation). I took what I had learned from the course and changed my eating habits. A month later, I went for the second part of the course. I had lost ten pounds. To make a long story short, I lost sixty pounds over several months and have kept them off ever since. My diet tends to be low-carb, but it isn't as strict now as it was then. Shopping at the Low Carb Grocery helped me lose weight and continues to help me maintain my weight. I was surprised that this store is a five-minute drive from where I live when I first was introduced to it! I am a regular customer there. Most of the staff members pull up my name in the system to credit my purchases towards future discounts with the store's point system. I tend to shop on the weekend where there are specials and samples. Last weekend, I sampled carrot chips and bought the beet ones. I don't need to taste the latter. I like beets. I have so many products that I love that help me maintain my weight, such was protein powders, miso soup, PB2 powdered peanut butter, lemonade, and so much more. This store constantly introduces new products. I also like the size of this store. It's not massive, so you can find everything that you need. Whether you are on Keto, Paleo, Dr. Poon or a diabetic or non- gluten diet this is your place. They have an app and a web site with photos, customer reviews and descriptions for each food item. Some advice: if you want to have your purchases sent to you by courier then consider buying $100 or more = free shipping and select Canpar vs. Canada Post. The store itself is small, but the selection is vast compared to others. I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible amount of selection of sugar free and no sugar added products. As a diabetic, my choices are pretty limited in regular grocery stores. Prices are comparable to other stores including online stores (and Amazon too!) I was super happy to find a large selection of syrups, sweeteners, candies and also, Lily's no sugar added chocolate chips! I feel fantastic, and would not have been able to stick to the diet if not for many of the low carb treats found here. Carol's Cheesecakes are to die for, the baking mixes taste amazing, and pancakes! Who would believe I could eat low carb, or even no carb pancakes with syrup? Went in today for the first time and was not disappointed. Great selection of low carb foods of all kinds. I was just hoping for bread but got bagels instead. Just got home and they taste great. I love this place! They have a variety of items that are for low carb, keto and paleo diets. Just be mindful of your personal macros when shopping...some things are more low carb then others. For example the cheesecake is something my SO got for our anniversary. It's a bit higher than a protein bar but a serving is just perfect for a special day. This is based on family members getting Diabetes and doing reading on the latest science along with a few books like Go Wild by John Ratey, Brain Maker by David Perlmutter and Wheat Belly by William Davis. Although the prices can be high for specialty products, you won't find many of these in other stores, so in some cases it's worth the extra cost. I was here about two weeks ago. It was my first time there. A friend recommended I check it out for snacks and breads. I was so disappointed. It's a very small store with mostly energy bars and sweets that are sweetened with alternative sugars (alcohol, Splenda, stevia, etc). The prices are high and there wasn't all that much to choose from. I wanted to get some nice bread. It looked fluffy and fresh from far away. When I approached the shelf, there were at least 4 loaves that were literally covered in green mould. Terrible. I won't be going back there for sure. read more

The stuff in their freezer is always freezer-burn....I don't know if their freezer is not woreking properly or if the stuff has been in the freezer fr so long that it got this way. I've bought the same brand products (breads. wraps, donuts, cheesecake, etc) many times elsewhere in frozen form and never had a problem with them except when I bought at this place. read more

This is a great store. I shop there in person; have never tried the online service. The people there are very nice and pretty knowledgeable. You can buy a lot of hard to find items here. Some are for "hard-core" low carb diets only. But if you're like me and just want a few simple ways to reduce carbs from your diet, there are some really decent things you can get that don't taste gross. I am very happy with this business. I placed an order on the weekend and I received it by Tuesday. Everything was fresh and well packed. The shipping was pretty cheap for fast delivery, too, like $7.99, saving me the hassle of TTCing it to one of the few low carb stores in Toronto and carrying it all home. They enrolled me automatically in their rewards program which was an unexpected bonus. I've been eating really low carb for about 8 months and lost a huge amount of weight but try to stick to whole foods. Sometimes you just really need a slice of bread or something pasta-like, though and this place easily fills the void. I bought some bread which was fresher than any supermarket bread I've ever purchased and make a killer grilled cheese and then a ham and cheese the next day. The bread was slightly pricey and sadly contains gluten but it definitely killed my bread cravings for a while. I also got some tortillas, hazelnut flavour drops for my coffee, sugar free pineapple syrup to fake some pina coladas with nice rum I just brought back from Cuba (the syrup was $3 cheaper than the competitor I've been buying it from btw), and some low carb/high protein pasta in case that craving hits one day. All of the products I've sampled so far have been 100% excellent. I'm already plotting my next order. read more

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR DELIVERY FIASCO!! I normally order online then go pick up my items at this store. However, I recently moved downtown and thought I'd take advantage of their delivery service. Bad idea. Although I added my new address as the primary shipping and billing address, somehow the order got shipped to my old address but billed to my current address. I triple check my online orders always so I know I didn't make the error. Besides, I printed out my order and it confirmed my new address as my shipping address. Well, when I checked the next day to see if they had started the shipping process I saw that it was going to my old address. I got on the phone immediately with them but ended up with a snarky young kid telling me it was my fault and there was nothing they could do. She then passed me on to 'Doris' who transferred me to a voicemail. I called back and got the 3rd degree from the snarky kid again...I finally spoke with Doris again who promised me she'd email me updates and the tracking number later that day. Well, she never did. In fact, I hadn't received any order updates since they received payment. I had to check my online account to get the tracking number. I then called Canada Post who told me there wasn't much they could do either. Finally I got in touch with the property management of my old address, who so kindly put me through to the security desk who promised to hold the package and notify me once it got there. He did, thankfully. But in the meantime, I oddly got a delivery email from Canada Post which I did not subscribe to. My thought is that somebody at the Low Carb Grocery, without my permission, sent it to me instead of calling me in person to let me know it was delivered simply because they didn't want to get involved further in the fiasco. Very irresponsible and rather creepy. Later, Doris emailed me and then called me, playing dumb and asking ME to update THEM on the order even though they KNEW it had been delivered. I thought it was the store that is supposed to update the customer! Anyway, I told her I won't be dealing with them again because their customer service is horrible - blaming me for their errors, not taking responsibility, and not offering any real help whatsoever, all to save on a measly $7.99 delivery fee! In the end, I had to go all the way up to my old address and pick up the package myself. There is absolutely no reason why a customer should have to track down their own package, like I had to. Absolutely ridiculous! Thanks for nothing Low Carb Grocery!! I'm switching to Low Carb Canada now. read more
