Been going to this location for 30+ years and today will be the last. Walk in there at 5:30am and cases are almost completely empty, no one making fresh doughnuts, they are all from the day before, guy behind the counter sucks and his attitude representa this. I walked in ready to buy 4 dozen doughnuts and left with 0 doughnuts. There are so many other good doughnuts places here in Denver I do not see this one lasting much longer. Save your money go somewhere else, this place is irrelevant at this point. Sad to see read more

This has always been one of my favorite doughnut stores even though it's in a neighborhood I often prefer to avoid. The people are always so nice and the doughnuts are fresh and delicious. They have great coffee and can even whip up a great breakfast sandwich. It's clean, simple and smells of fresh goodies. My girlfriend's dad says he has been stopping here for 30 years. read more

Dude that works Mondays is either retarded or stupid. Can't make a donut other than something that looks like either a blob of dough or a tiny version of a smaller blob version of a picture of the donut. Doesn't speak English either and looks at you like a baby passing gass when asking for a specific kind of donut. Love that this place is open 24/7 for those late night cravings, not to mention that the donuts are just the perfect amount of delicious to fill the void of the sugar cravings that no crappy Dunkin' Donuts will ever be able to fulfill. I arrived at the Winchell's store on 1st. & Sheridan Blvd at about 12:10 AM on October 30th. The employee made me wait while he did something in the prep area. I asked for fresh donuts from the racks containing fresh donuts. He insisted on getting the donuts from the display case. I've gone in there before, and the employees have always given me what I've asked for. He was unprofessional and rude. read more

I stopped by on January 2, 2018 to get a small cup of coffee, as I ordered I realized I was out of cash. I told the clerk never mind, as I had run out of cash.He insisted its ok, and gave me a cup on the house. This kind of service goes a long way to me. How awesome was he to do that. True Story... One day, while on my way to work, I found myself in need of an iced coffee. Nothing fancy, just a plain old half-caff coffee over ice. It would've been nice if there had been a Dunkin' Donuts in the area, but I have yet to see one in Denver (though I'm told they do exist). Additionally, this particular 'hood is utterly bereft of a Starbucks. I KNOW. Believe it or not, there are actually still neighborhoods in which Starbucks hasn't yet taken root and spread like the plague. Good or bad? You decide. Still... how hard is it to make an iced coffee? Any self-respecting donut shop should be able to handle that request, so into Winchell's I went. "I'd like a large iced coffee, half-caff please," I told the elderly man behind the counter. He just stared blankly. "Half regular, half decaf," I explained... just in case he wasn't hip to coffee-abbreviation culture. The blank stare continued. And for those who might be wondering, no... he didn't appear to be handicapped in any way (mental or otherwise). "Iced coffee?" I prompted gently, and a bit more loudly (just in case his hearing might be an issue). "I'm not sure we have that!" He exclaimed. "It's just coffee over ice, nothing fancy. Half decaf, half regular," I said, relieved that it was just confusion standing between us. Confusion, I could work with. "Okay... so..." it was becoming obvious I'd need to walk him through it. No problem! "Just grab one of those cups and fill it with ice," I said, and was hit with that same blank stare again. "You have an ice maker, right?" "This one?" He asked, standing near one of those big industrial things you see next to the Coke machines near hotel elevators. Dude, you're asking ME? "That'll work. Now fill the cup with ice and just pour the coffee over it. Half decaf, half regular." And then... ... ...he asked me... ... ... ...wait for it... ... ... "WHICH HALF DO I PUT IN FIRST?" I've loved Winchell's since childhood. So when I moved down the street from this one I was stoked. I went there and I wasn't let down. The donuts were fresh and delicious with a variety to choose from. The coffee was good as well. It's great we have Dunkin and Voodoo, but don't overlook Winchell's. They're wonderful. I'd recommend a fritter, killer good. read more

This Winchell's is clean and the staff is fiendly. They make their donuts in the back and are fresh daily. The coffee was great and they even have cleaner in a giant thermal pot. I only wish they had raw sugar and Stevia. Please! read more

Just picked up donuts from Winchell's on 1st and Alameda...Made up a list of what we wanted based on the online menu so we wouldn't hold the line up trying to figure it out at the store...Gave the guy the list and some things were unavailable so we asked for extra jelly donuts instead...Got the donuts home and grabbed a what I thought was a jelly donut...no jelly at all. Thought I'd taken the wrong one so I cut open the other supposed jelly donuts...not an ounce of jelly to be found...Now, granted, the donuts we were given are the ones that are usually filled with jelly...I just wasn't aware that when I ordered jelly donuts, I had to specify that I actually wanted jelly in them...It was the name "jelly donut" that threw me off, I guess...But you know what they say, "Never assume..." FIRST OF ALL... I really love donuts and this was the only place that was available to order from near me. I ordered from Doordash because I had a universal headache. I ordered a hot cappuccino with half a dozen donuts.Im astounded..... I'm so used to having really warm fresh donuts and when they served them to me- they didn't put it in a box, they put them in a small paper bag and the donuts were all squashed. Some of the donuts, were heavier than the glazed or the ones with filling. Like WTF! The heavier ones were the chocolate ones and they put them on top. The chocolate ones are so heavy and hard that I'm actually afraid to bite into one of them. The cappuccino was obviously from powder and water. Ugh. It was actually very disgusting. I don't understand why it needs to be fake cappuccino. It tasted like I was drinking coffee grinds from yesterday in hot water. I was actually taken aback. I expected more from a Donut Shop. I actually prefer Krispy Creme than this. Jesus bless them. Those are Christ donuts. I thought it would be nice to get in touch with a donut shop nearby, but it wasn't all that great like I knew it would be. The location is off of Federal Blvd. and just the location itself looks very sketch. I have driven past it and ignored it for a couple of years now, but some of my friends have gone there because it's the only donut place that doesn't take half an hour to get to. I've been a loyal Winchell's customer for literally over 30 years. My dad used to treat me to Winchell's when I was a kid and I loved their rainbow sprinkle with white vanilla frosting and their chocolate sprinkle with vanilla frosting. This Winchell's in particular is especially bad. I'm quite shocked they are still in business. The last time I was here I asked to use the bathroom and the lady said "no bathrooms." I asked where the nearest one is and she said "I don't know maybe next door but i don't go in that store." I went to the bathroom next door and came back to buy donuts. I stopped by again (I work in the area occasionally) and I had some trash in my car. I knew the lady working wouldn't want me to use their trash can so I walked around and couldn't find a trash can anywhere. I went into the store and the same lady says "they have a trash can next door." I said "can just use this and don't worry I'm buying donuts." She then just nodded to go ahead. I ask for the donuts I wanted and of course she gives me the wrong ones. It's sad to say but Winchell's has gone downhill big time. This one in particular could fire this attendant and be much better off. I'll still go to the one by my house but I will not return to this one again. read more
