We hired Willis Cargo for our move back in July 2025 and it was absolutely the worst experience with movers we have ever had. We told the owner up front the big items we had (king mattress & bed frame, big sectional, dresser, queen mattress, etc) in our 2 bedroom apartment. We were quoted around $700 & ended up being charged double ($1400) due to their truck not being big enough to make it all in one trip. If we knew this ahead of time, we could have made other arrangements to prevent two trips. I would also like to note that my husband was on a work trip so I was the only one there with the movers. I was also pretty pregnant at this point as well. The movers didn't wrap anything, black marks were left on our new mattress, bed frame and the walls, I had to pack & move our entire closet clothes myself, & a ton of stuff was left in the hallway right as you walked in our new house. Looking back now, I was very kind & provided breakfast and lunch, tried to make it easier for them to finish the job & to speed up the process, & even had tip money ready, I was completely taking advantage of. The owner is a nice man, but this experience was absolutely horrible & almost a year later I am still upset about it. Truly hope this has not happened to anyone else since. ** edit for owners response - I did send pictures of what the owner asked for, I can post a screenshot of the text messages if needed. Everything that could be packed into boxes was. I didn't pack my vacuum cleaner in a box for example because who would? Additionally, we know what a quote is & I wouldn't consider double the quote price "barely exceeding". TLDR: Willis Cargo is terrific, just hire them already! We decided to hire movers for the first time ever and used the Request a Quote feature on Yelp to get quotes from a few area movers at once. Dan from Willis Cargo responded almost immediately and asked for a phone call to get some additional detail on our move. He was friendly, professional, and clear on the phone. I texted him some details and we were able to get our preferred date. When I requested to add an additional pickup location, Dan was totally fine with that. I got quotes from a few other movers who had much higher minimums and charged fees and mileage, so Willis Cargo was by far the best price we were quoted. On moving day, Dan and Angelo showed up exactly on time and immediately got to work. They were friendly and so efficient. They've been working together for 13 years and it shows! They took great care with all of our furniture and belongings. Everything ended up where it was supposed to. These two guys are great, incredibly strong, careful, super efficient without slamming in such a way that you're concerned about you possessions. They wrapped everything, and were exceedingly accommodating. These two have worked together for about 13 years and that experience and working partnership is very evident. Move from Northern California to southern California. 3 bedroom. 2 bath 1300 square foot house. Not only did I not get a discount for finding him on Yelp, he was more expensive than anyone else. $7900 for a very poor job. He was in my house 3 times and still underestimated the size truck he needed, so he charged me an extra $900 because he had to get a trailer. Someone who knows what they are doing should know what size truck to use. He kept blaming it on me because of a desk I bought. He knew about the desk because he moved it for me, but he didn't want to take responsibility. The desk is not large. We had agreed that we would pack on Sunday and load the truck on Monday. I booked a flight to fly out Monday morning and he would start driving on Monday and we would meet at the new property. He decided he wanted to do it all on Sunday, which meant I would be in an empty house all day and night. I asked him to put me up in a motel and he said no because it wasn't in his bid. He wanted to change the date so that he could see his girlfriend on the way down. This was all about his needs and not mine. He got to the property before I did and since he couldn't get in, he filled the shed without my direction. It is so full that I can't move around to see what is in there. There are about 30 boxes marked kitchen. No specifics. I opened one of the "kitchen" boxes to find bath towels. I didn't discover that until 5 days later and had to go out and buy towels. In fact, I don't know where anything is. I can't keep buying what I cannot find. They took my clothes that I carefully had on hangars and put in hefty bags. They threw them all on the floor. The majority are off hangars and a mess. If I could give less than 1 star I would. read more
