This was a nightmare of a moving experience. I hired them to help move a single woman from our church out of her 1 bedroom apartment and it took 10 hours to complete the job. It was one truckload/trip from the apartment to the storage facility and everything was packed up prior to their arrival! I have never had or heard of professionals taking even half this amount of time, to say I am disappointed is an understatement. I also asked for an invoice for accounting needs over 2 weeks ago and haven't received any form of receipt. My most honest evaluation/review. 3 guys of Russian/Ukrainian descent. Typical Russian personality, no smiles but quite pleasant. Efficiency I would rate 6/10; professionalism 6/10; personality/friendliness 7/10; over-all delivery 6/10. Poor guys do not have planks/ladders to load the furniture/items. They work precariously without regard to harm/injury, they're well aware though. I just wished they were more careful cos some of my stuff had cracks. They're affordable for local movements. We needed a moving company to move everything from our residence in Union City, Ca to a public storage in Oakley, Ca. This company amazed me in getting this move done! I hired 3 men and a 26 ft truck per the owner's recommendation for a single story 3 bedroom home. The movers came at 9 am and didn't waste anytime. They got the truck filled in about 4 hours. I was nervous that the truck was small for all our stuff but thanks to Dimitri, Eugene and Nick they made it happen! If you need a moving company, I recommend this company. I can't say enough good things about this moving crew! From start to finish, Eugene and his crew were absolute pros -- polite, punctual, and incredibly careful with every single item. They wrapped and padded everything with care (even the weird-shaped stuff!), navigated stairs like champs, and made what should've been a stressful day feel totally manageable. Extremely slow. A little unprofessional. Ended up scratching my floor because they dragged furniture. I hired 4 movers expecting them to pipeline well. They're not experienced. Each guy would pack one thing and then take all the way to the truck. One guy would just chill and take light items one by one all and take his phone calls in the middle. Every two three trips, they would just vanish, apparently taking a breather. They also sent an unmarked truck. Very unprofessional. Very low value for money. read more

Truly excellent service. From the very beginning, the customer service was very responsive to my questions and gave me straightforward answers. Booked my day and time and it was one less thing to worry about while moving. During the move, the 3 movers were professional and very friendly. They were stuck in traffic on the way over and made sure to notify us that they would be a little late and assured the clock would only start when they arrived. They offer credit card options which I needed for receipts/reimbursement and had very reasonable/competitive fees. The phone/initial call could have been more streamline but the actual day-of service was superb. I moved after a year from San Francisco to Oakland and used Smart People Moving and again, I highly recommend them. When I booked them they were super-responsive over phone, text and email. Day of, the movers were prompt and highly professional. They put all of my valuables in tape to protect from scratches. They also let me use wardrobe boxes as well as other boxes. This move was complicated because it involved a first stop at my new place of residence and a second or last stop at a storage unit. The movers were very responsive and easy to deal with in following instructions. Because I was a returning customer, Smart People Moving did not double the driving time and gave me free boxes. UPDATE: A box of very expensive items has disappeared and I'm not getting any help from the company. Calls are not being returned and I am quite frustrated. The movers sat in my living room and had me leave them two 5 star reviews before leaving, which happened before I was done with their services. I still recommend movers because that made my move seamless, but next time I'll pay more attention to my things. I have never used a moving service before and was nervous about not having things packed before they arrived, but they were so quick, strong, and communicative. Nick and his buddy were phenomenal. I had a pretty annoying move... furnished apartment so it wasn't too many hours for them. They probably could have been doing a more profitable job. When it comes to moving, I really only care about two things: 1. Is my stuff safe? 2. Is this worth the price? I'd give Smart People Moving 5 stars on both accounts. They wrapped all my fragile stuff incredibly well, often taking better care of things than I would have probably done on my own. They were cautious moving things around corners, being careful not to damage any walls or any of my items. It was great to see how much care they took with my stuff. I had gotten probably 5 or 6 quotes and SPM came out as the cheapest. I can be skeptical on using the cheapest option (am I going to compromise on quality?) but the other reviews made me feel more confident picking this company. I can say that they worked efficiently, despite being paid per hour, and I felt like the money I spent was well worth it. For reference, they helped me move a 2 bedroom home + yard furniture. We filled the 20ft truck and it took them a little less than 4 hours from start to finish. Would definitely recommend them if you're looking for quality movers! read more

Terrible experience and would not use them again! My son decided to employ them even though they had a 3 hour minimum because they seemed affordable compared to other companies. First the positive, they did a good job wrapping and protecting the furniture. It was down hill from there. Early on, I realized that there was no incentive for them to work fast since they charged by the hour and they took their time prepping and loading the truck EVEN though we had moved half of the boxes to the ground level ourselves. The two guys struggled to get the sofa down the staircase and they actually broke a piece of our concrete entry stairs. Given how long it took to load the truck, during the unloading portion, I requested that they move the boxes to the edge of the truck bed so I could move the boxes into storage after they unloaded the furniture portion. I found it comical that I (a senior woman) was able to keep pace with the two guys as they moved the boxes with two hand trucks as I loaded the boxes onto a moving dolly. Do not use this company after you move you will find your furniture damaged cracked chipped. My dresser is beyond repair as you can see by the pictures abs my bed both beds were never put together correctly! One out of the 4 movers actually moved me! Honestly hey only put plastic around your furniture no padding.
